Guest Reviews
- Kevin (6/5): - Cheapest hotel with a really short walking distance to the boardwalk. Not the cleanest or nicest hotel but if you are on a budget its definitely an option.
- James (8/5): - Stayed off season and got a good rate...you can walk to the beach & boardwalk...mattress was very comfy...staff very friendly & helpful...room had microwave & refrigerator...some traffic noise until 10p so bring a sound machine just in case you need it.
- Randi (10/5): - Nice place to bee for 5 days
- Mayaflor (4/5): - Near board walk with small shops close to the board walk. Parking is free. Staff are just ok. The room smells and paint in the bathroom are dirty and old. Ref is not getting cold, AC is not working well.
- Brian (2/5): - I got there 2 hours early they wouldn't let me check in even tho the place was completely empty so i waited in my car in the parking lot. 4 am got up for work no hot water no answer at the front desk. Waited for 30 minutes and took a cold shower with no wash clothes. Place is a dump
- Aleksandr (6/5): - Old mattresses.
- Tanya (6/5): - Used condom wrapper under the bed, toilet seat was dirty/cracked, and could have been a little more updated. Area was very quiet, though! Parking was tight, not ideal for larger vehicles.
- Jacqueline (6/5): Just OK... - Its fine
- Daniel (10/5): - Convenient location
- Melissa (10/5): - Clean and the accommodations were excellent, the staff was friendly.
- Steven (6/5): - This property is very old and run down. They are obviously not reinvesting any profits into making improvements of any kind. A little bit of deep-cleaning, wall patching, and paint could go a long way toward cleaning the place up. They obviously don't have any pride in the property.
- Kristin (4/5): - Walking distance to the Boardwalk
- Darrin (2/5): - For the rate, the condition of this motel was terrible, this place would have be expensive at 60 bucks a night let alone 400 plus, if there would have vacancies elsewhere after i arived and seen the condition i would have left.
- Megan (8/5): - Honestly I was hesitant about staying here because some of the reviews but it wasn’t bad. The only complaint I have is there was a lot of hair in the sink and in the bath tub that shouldn’t have been there if it was cleaned right. It was a close walk to the boardwalk and that’s what I wanted. I would stay here again.
- Samantha (8/5): - I appreciated the reasonable price being within walking distance to the boardwalk and eateries. I liled the big wall window from room 121, very cool! The blanket had hole burnt into it, possible someone smoking which isnt allowed but I figure the laundry staff should throw that blanket away.
- Javier (10/5): - Nice staff and late checkout
- kevin (10/5): - Gated parking and security on premises.
- stephanie (6/5): - It was really close to the boardwalk which was the goal. When we came in it was okay, but as we checked the room around, there was some empty water bottles under the bed, it was pretty dusty. They definitely did not clean the floor. Ac does almost nothing. the water inside the bathroom would smell at certain times and the bathroom fan did not work.
- Kenneth (6/5): - Close to the boardwalk. No need to pay for parking. Few minutes to walk to beach or the boardwalk.
- Colton (6/5): - Great area, walkable to anything and with free parking is an automatic plus! Room was a little small, facilities in the room didnt work great but got the job done, would stay here again based on convenience of the location, but definitely a little pricey for what youre getting out of the stay, overall 3.5/5, worth the trip for a last minute getaway
- Elene (2/5): - Checked into the property and front office smelled like curry. At furst he didnt want to give us a second key but relented. Went to our room and it had a ckeaning smell in it. Which I suppose is good but noted hair in the bathroom and shower. Took 10 min before lukewarm water came out of the faucet to wash up and same for the shower! Motel is located on a very busy intersection so I didnt get much sleep at all! Felt like people were outside my door all night! Only positive was it was walking distance to the Boardwalk.
- Mark (8/5): - Old but decent. Small rooms but quiet. Terrible small pillows but fine for the one night. Walkable to the boardwalk. Free parking but no breakfast. No lock on the bathroom door and no chain/swing lock.
- anthony (10/5): - the owner was very nice
- Tris (10/5): - Great stay in Santa Cruz at the Capri Motel. It’s a simple no frills place but in a very convenient location at a fantastic price. On a busy intersection during the day which makes for such interesting people & action watching. At night late when sleeping it quieted down. The motel is really in a great location. Park your car, unpack and go have some fun. The San Lorenzo River runs right next to the street and there’s a trail you can take to the boardwalk or over to East Cliff side or the other direction that’s a really nice walk and you get some marvelous views of the beach boardwalk if you go all the way to Cliff Drive Vista Point. I will say though, a nice hot jacuzzi would have really felt marvelous after all the walking we did. Not one offered there but there are spas that we could have gone to that we could have taken care of our tired achey parts. We just weren’t there long enough and didn’t have the time. Ah shucks !!!
- Joseph (6/5): - Bare bones. Linen had light stains and burn holes from cigarettes, pillows were flat, coffee machine broken, very little parking. Conveniently placed though. Walking distance from almost everything.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Chill Spot - Nice spot and street view close walking distance to boardwalk
- Lyle (6/5): - The area was noisy in the evening.
- Claudia (10/5): - Staff was very nice
- JEROLD (6/5): - Old building, outdated fixtures, lots of deferred maintanence.
- Alora (8/5): - I liked that the property was walkable, downtown is only about 15 minute or less walking and the Board walk is about a 5 minute walk, stayed one night and the room was clean, had warm water, and a few necessities like a mini fridge and microwave
- Ronnie (10/5): - very kind front desk
- Lesal (10/5): Near the boardwalk - Best price in the area... Basic room but comfortable and great location.
- Teojenes (6/5): ❤️ - We like it. The room was cute with queen bed… The tv didn’t work though…
- Nikki (8/5): - A quiet surprise. Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but inside was renovated and lovely. No closet. But fridge and microwave. Barn door was a cute add on. The clerk said “normally we charge a $300 deposit, but I’ll only charge you $50”. It was safe and clean and surprisingly two blocks from the boardwalk and pier.
- Tristan (6/5): - Outside needs updating and some maintenance, but the room was updated and nice.
- Haunani (10/5): - The room was clean, but needs to be updated. The bathroom shower was updated and very nice. The bed was comfortable and so were the pillows. I didn’t care for the carpet in the room. I feel wood/laminate floors would be cleaner. We were in room 121 I believe. It was a corner room right by the street, so you do hear the cars passing by. But in the night time, it was quiet. Walls were thin so you can hear your neighbors. The front office staff/man was soo nice and upgraded our room from a 1 to 2 bed, which we didn’t need, but was nice. We loved the location. It was a short walk to the beach. We would stay there again.
- adam (4/5): - It took 5 minutes for the water to get hot in the shower
- Quynh (6/5): - Closer to the beach and restaurant
- nathan (6/5): - Bathroom had mold all over
- Conor (10/5): - Great!
- Conor (10/5): - Nice enough
- Zinda (8/5): Great location to the Boardwalk - The best location if going to the Boardwalk. The hotel is older, so the room is small. The room seemed clean except for the floor; wear slippers or flip flops. There is no maid service. The shower took a very long time to get hot water. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.
- John (2/5): - Noisy with teenagers partying at 3am. computer could not detect internet so do not think it was available. Ran the shower and sink for 10 minutes and never could get hot water. $200 security deposit suggest high crime.
- Deena (10/5): - We really loved this place. The photos don't do it justice. The sheets were nice quality in the bed. My son and I stayed in a room with a single queen bed. It had everything we needed. Parking, convenient location, nice shower (essential near the beach), fridge, microwave, 3 blocks from the Boardwalk and all kinds of restaurant options. A lot of other hotels were double the cost. This was right next door to the Mariott. The only difference was Mariott had secure parking. This location also had designated covered on site parking. Just no security guards. Hope this helps someone, especially when you are on a budget and need to stretch the total vacation dollars.
- Jeff (6/5): - The coffee was terrible really need a up grade
- Cynthia (10/5): - Nice clean and convenient and short walking distance from boardwalk
- Luis (6/5): - The parking
- Joe (10/5): Two Blocks From the Boardwalk - No frills. Exactly as described. Checked in on Juneteenth, June 19th for a 4 day stay. Clean floor and bathroom. Clean bedsheets. Has a mini-fridge, bring ice cube trays. Also has small table with one chair. Basic TV works when it wants to. FYI- shower water takes awhile to warm, so, complete your day/ night routine.
Limited carport parking (free) but very tight although they have open space for handicap and two spaces that are not in the carport. Also, no housekeeping but can request for fresh set of towels and essentials. And $50 deposit fee but that might vary, check staff upon check-in. Best of all, two short blocks from the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
- celeste (8/5): - not too bad pretty close to boardwalk
- Cesar (10/5): - This place was surprisingly great.
- Tahyde (10/5): - Good service thank you.
- David (4/5): - They give you a key that is fragile and they charge $25 to replace it. It won’t fit anywhere and the over motel is not great
- Eduardo (10/5): - Very clean room fridge and microwave was a great addition quiet area, staff was helpful and friendly and location was perfect close to all the major attractions walkable
- Danielle (10/5): - Easy to walk to boardwalk
- Dionna (8/5): - Friendly service. A little run down but clean. Bed was comfortable. No elevator. Close to the Boardwalk.
- Vinh (10/5): - I had a pleasant time at this motel. It has a pretty good price and is really close to where I needed to go. The owners were also very nice and accommodating during my stay there.
- Kala (2/5): Rude - The lady in the front office was very rude! Did not stay and left!!
- Lorrie (4/5): - It was a disaster not too clean the little refrigerator has food from the last person who was there the towels not clean
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Older furnishings, not at all luxurious, but very clean. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
- Peter (4/5): - The price is too high for the condition the rooms are in. Very outdated.
- Mark (4/5): - Room was clean enough (average, at best); coffee maker didn’t work; food and drink on site - non existent - had to drive 3/4 miles just to get something decent to eat; no ice maker available; no laundry facilities. Staff was nice, ensconced in their fortified (cannot enter) tiny office behind thick glass panels. Should say something, huh?
- Yemi (2/5): - If you are going to pay that much for this hotel, add a little to it and get the nicer hotel next to it. We could hardly sleep in the room, because all the noise from outside just get through the walls. Also, during the one night i spent there, I could not connect to the wifi. When I told the front desk, they told me I may have to go to the hallway to connect to WIFI. I needed the WIFI to do some work, I cannot do that in the hallway around 11 pm at night. Finally, it was a "fight" to get the shower knob to work the next morning.
- Amanda (6/5): - It was ok
- Daphne (2/5): - I found a bedbug in my bed when I turned down the sheets. I tried to call the hotel, and nobody answered. Then I tried the chat option, but nobody responded. I will never stay in this disgusting hotel again.
- michael (10/5): - The manager was really nice
- Al (6/5): - Very convenient location , easily walkable to boardwalk. Quite an old facility , has had a few updates but needs a few more. owners were nice and friendly . Little things would help out this hotel a lot , like new bedspreads ,curtains , more pillows, enough towels and shampoos for everyone.
- Jennifer (10/5): - This place is amazing. “M” and the staff are so accommodating. My son and I came for a three night stay and it’s nothing but excellent. Recommend for the price and hospitality.
Jen and Clay
- Joe (10/5): - Amazing stay, peaceful, wonderful quiet location near everything.
- MATTHEW (10/5): - Clean. Room had nice flooring. Close to Boardwalk. Beds very comfortable.
- Michael (10/5): - Nice staff, good location
- Robert (10/5): My favorite Santa Cruz Hideaway - Love the basics. Room was open and not cluttered with massive amounts of unnecessary furniture.
- najia (6/5): - The hotel was booked and paid by my dad with his credit card. By the time I reached there, she asked for my credit card with my name on it. I gave her my debit card which somehow didn’t work so I had to get cash to pay her. I just feel people don’t realize what others are going thru. All they want is their own convenience.
Also, there wasn’t enough soaps and shampoos, and when asked for some after 2-days, I was given only the shampoo, not the soap.
One thing was weirdly funny: the lever of microwave gets stuck so there’s a trick to open, close or start the microwave which, thank goodness, I understood the first day.
- Sharon (8/5): - I love that it is so close to the Boardwalk. Bathroom needed to be cleaned better, add wash cloths, towels. Loved there was microwave, mini fridge, and coffee in the room. Great area and clean
- Jeffrey (8/5): - Not the nicest looking place, but the rooms were great. Close to all the things you want to do.
- Linda (2/5): - We didn't like anything at this property. The towels were stain. There wasn't any wash rags. No cable or reception on the TV.
- Valeria (2/5): - Management of the hotel is not very friendly, they overcharge....watch, they say you owe 80 then at the check out the next day you owe 279. You can only park certain way, otherwise the boss will either to move or repark. Handicapped parking is for employees only, dont bother parking next to the "check in" office........the staff takes them. Rooms are dirty, noisy and lack of supplies.
- RAMON (6/5): - I THINK IS NOT NORMAL THAT A MOTEL DOESN'T HAVE ICE MACHINE GOR THEIR GUESTS
- Jennifer R (6/5): - It’s very noisy. You can hear the street noise and the noise from the other rooms. In addition, I selected 4 guests in my quote. Once we got our bill, we had to pay an additional fee of $75 for anything above 2 guests. I am sure it’s in the ‘fine print’ somewhere…. But I want to warn others now! The one good thing was that it’s walking distance to the Boardwalk.
- Julia (8/5): Would stay again - The on-site personal are super nice and friendly. Absolutely wonderful people. Walking distance to the beach. The bed needs to be replaced very lumpy not uncomfortable just squeaky.
- Andy (8/5): Convenient lo cal - Down the street from Boardwalk & around the corner from Downtown
- Soizic (2/5): - No hairdryer in the room.
No river view, we had a car in front of our window & door.
We hear everything between rooms (above & on the side).
Wait a long time to be checked in (40mns).
- Patricia (8/5): - The motel was a clean place to stay just to sleep. Close the boardwalk and beach. Staff were friendly.
- Megan (6/5): - This hotel is very old. I would have thought it was closed if I didn’t knock on the window of the office. The staff was very friendly, though.
- Jeffrey (6/5): - I liked the proximity to the boardwalk and beach. I didn’t like that not even the trash cans were emptied the whole time during my stay. I was told that it was due to Covid. No maid service. Loud AC, but it was a decent visit at this hotel. The people at the feeding desk were very helpful and friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very nice. The room was very clean and the owners very polite. It was the cheapest room we could find, and we had read some negative reviews so we were a little cautious, but those reviews are wrong. This is a very nice, clean, comfortable place.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Nothing special - Clean, but hot water was limited. Also, the room that we were assigned did not have a door to the bathroom.
Your car is subject to be blocked-in as the owner rents parking spots for $40 to visitors to the Boardwalk.
A woman was screaming next door, where her and her companion were fighting. Although the front desk was called, the fighting continued for several hours.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Disappointed for the money I spent - I was disappointed to see that there was no lobby I could enter. It was an outside window. The room was clean but the entire motel just seemed old, worn, and really in need of updates. The couple who ran the motel were nice enough but I wouldn’t stay there again. I thought for $211.00 I should’ve had a nicer place to stay in Santa Cruz
- Elizabeth (6/5): - Pretty good location and affordable accommodation. Pretty basic, not the best facilities, and perhaps a bit tired.
- Gregory (8/5): - The room was clean and the staff was pleasant. It was what I needed, a clean room to sleep in. Nothing fancy and lower price. It is close to a busy road. Easy access to the River Walk.
- Edward (10/5): - Simple, Nice stay here.
- Eric (6/5): - Poor lightning in the room, no lamps at all. Previous guests used soap still in the shower. Limited desk availability and unfriendly check in. Could be much better.
- Theresa (4/5): - Not like in the picture location small no wash cloths no coffee maker no ice bucket the picture I saw is false advertising
- Maria (2/5): - They have very bad customer service
- Matthew (4/5): - The manager was vary nice and help full. The bed was dirty.
- Jesse (8/5): - Nice price for a very nice location. Older property with reasonable maintenance, no issues encountered.
- Tyler (2/5): - No fitted sheets, I rented and paid for 2 people and they told me it’s only for me and to have no visitors. It was dirty, and loud noises coming from the bathroom at night
- Beatriz (10/5): - Clean spacey room
- Dawn (8/5): Perfect for price - Close to everything. Walk to beach. Very kind owners. Awesome price :)
- Nancy (4/5): - There was no hot water in our room or my sister's room
- Jennifer (4/5): - The location was the only good part. Rooms need to be updated. Everything is old. Walls need to be painted, looked dirty. Towels were stained, we used our own. Beds uncomfortable. No coffee pot. Staff was very friendly, just seems like the hotel itself needs some updates.
