Guest Reviews
- Lamb (10/5): Great getaway in one of the most beautiful places in world! Enjoyed lots of day trips but could have easily stayed at Ba - The location was breathtaking! The food was delicious! The staff were amazing! Shout out to the restaurant staff for their service, banter and kindness and to our hosts Shaun and Janine who made us feel at home :) If I was being picky I’d say the bed was a little too hard, but easy fix!
- Elle (10/5): We spent 4 nights in a fare right on the beach. The beach was amazing, with coral reefs that you can swim to. The proper - We spent 4 nights in a fare right on the beach. The beach was amazing, with coral reefs that you can swim to. The property is well maintained and beautiful. Stunning gardens. Nothing… it’s fantastic!
- susan (8/5): Fantastic position. - Position right in the beach Pretty run down, needs lots of attention, particularly the timber paths they are pretty dangerous. The Plunge pool wasn’t worth the extra, water was freezing & far too difficult to get in & out!!
- Kelly (10/5): -
- Will (10/5): It was perfect from the moment we got there. The way they service with meals and drinks, the help and info offered and q - The staff, accomodation, the views, the swimming, the food, massage, location, cocktails, overall friendliness and help offered was 10/10. As a group of 5 staying in 3 rooms we all the best time and can’t fault the service. Will return for sure No bad words to say. The new management had literally just taken over and did their best to help and communicate with us.
- Mattheus (9/5): Great stay for first time visit to Vanuatu - The location was great. Short 25-minute trip from the airport. Beautiful views of the ocean, easy access to the beach and close to local coral reefs. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and made us feel welcome. Activities and events were fun and well organised. Staff and local tour operators ensured that we enjoyed every experience.
- Marina (4/5): Not enough quality for that price - Our toilet was leaking, our deck dirty (we asked a couple of time for cleaning), there is no high speed internet as they promised…. In summary: it is a good place to stay and the basics are more than okay BUT it simply doesn’t offer the quality that you pay for. It’s not worth the price.
- Celso Paiva (10/5): Great. Super helpful staff and management. Amazing getaway. - Staff super friendly. Vibe truly relaxed. The communal areas for breakfast and afternoon drinks were really nice and a good place to converse with fellow travellers if you like. We were able to organise everything through the hotel on the day - in promptu snorkelling, car hire for the next day delivered to the hotel - made the less fun bits of the trip super easy. I'd have to be really picky to bring up something I didn't like. Some of the meals were a bit hit and miss but mostly the food was absolutely fine. Breakie was great and the steak was good. I would have maybe liked a few more local cuisine options but understand that may not be everybody's liking.
- Greene (10/5): Absolutely wonderful! Can't wait to come back! - Stunningly beautiful!
- Karen (9/5): We had an amazing stay at Barrier Beach — great food, lovely staff, and a perfect place to relax - We absolutely loved our stay at Barrier Beach Resort! Breakfast was a highlight every morning — the fresh fruit platter and eggs cooked just how you like them were spot on. The staff are what really make this place special. Florida, Marcel, Rose, and Sophia (and honestly everyone we met) were so friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.
Our room was spotless, the bed super comfortable, and the whole resort had such a relaxed, peaceful vibe. The restaurant was fantastic too — we didn’t have a single bad meal in the six days we were there.
Highly recommend this resort for anyone wanting a beautiful, stress-free getaway in Vanuatu. We can’t wait to come back! loved everything
- Paula (6/5): -
- Jason (10/5): - The staff, food and privacy The location
- Christopher (10/5): - This place is amazing. I have stayed in many places, all over the world. I haven’t found a carefulness for the guests like it.
The property is clean, modern, and beautiful. It does a great job of not taking you out of nature and relaxation. The staff, Marcel, Florida, Rose, Emmi, Catherine etc all work so hard to make sure you’re having a good time.
Now to the areas around the property- the water is amazing. The snorkeling amazing, dugongs, clownfish, corals, turtles, crabs all just awesome. Snorkel everywhere you can.
The food was great and the daily specials brought good variety.
I hope the fishing stuff I left is catching!

- Joshua (6/5): - I really wanted to love this resort but my partner got very ill eating spring rolls on the first night. On the menu it had GF next to it and nothing else did. In this day and age I'm surprised a resort run by expats would allow such limited options for coeliacs, and only have GF on the one item that is definitely not gluten free. It's a serious autoimmune disease and any damage can potentially lead to other more serious health issues. They even thought it was gluten free until two nights later when they said it wasn't. The response from staff didn’t seem satisfactory and even when she showed them the diagram she prepared in Bislama there was little concern and the menu still showed GF against spring roles when we left 7 days later, but only on the dinner menu. Lunch menu didn’t show this. She basically ran out of options as nearly everything contained gluten and two of the nights one of the curries was unavailable. She had to have dry chicken one night as the sauce contained gluten. Considerng the cost of our stay and the reviews we read about the quality of the food we didn't have the same experience. We should have confirmed with the resort beforehand. Great location. Great snorkeling. One suggestion which all resorts should do is to make patrons aware of what NOT to do when using resort kyaks out on the reef such as putting your ore down on the coral as we noticed. I looked in the booklet and no mention of protecting the reefs. Just our thoughts.
- Julian (9/5): Brilliant stay in a beach resort, couldn’t ask for more. - Excellent position right on the beach. Fantastic staff. Stay wasn’t long enough!
- Jessica (10/5): - Wow, where to begin. Everything was great, the hotel is right next to the most beautiful beach, the restaurant is fantastic, and the staff couldn't do more to help you have a wondering stay. Special shout out to Emmie for helping us book our tours last minute. I can't wait to come back! Nothing!
- Vadim (9/5): -
- Nicki (10/5): - Great stay, friendly helpful staff
- Andrew (10/5): - Very relaxing place to holiday, staff we're super friendly and the food was excellent
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Frances (10/5): Relax and unwind by the sea - The location, right on the beach was perfect. Views spectacular. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Meals and drinks were lovely. Massage at the spa was very good and prices very reasonable. Rooms are spacious and cleaned daily. Snorkling and swimming was great. Our room had air-conditioning, some don't. Had a great stay, can't fault any of it. Nothing
- O'callaghan (9/5): Superb -
- Brad (10/5): Highly recommended if travelling to Santo - The location is absolutely stunning. It is about 20 mins out of Luganville and the road to the place isn’t all that great but the location, facilities and staff were amazing. Highly recommend taking a tour of champagne beach and at least one of the blue holes. We had Timmy as our tour guide and he was willing to change it up to suit us. Food at the restaurant was great however not a massive variety so if you are staying awhile you might want to get out and about for some meals get out and about, that being said they were willing to put together things off the menu if the could. The staff were extremely friendly and always willing to help. We saw dolphins and turtles from the dining area which overlooks the ocean and on a good day you could be lucky and see the volcano in the background. The beach is lovely, snorkeling was ok but definitely better places around (Timmy can help here). The beach has multiple trees that hang over the water so you can sit in the water in the shade which is nice. We got hot some massage at the spa onsite and it was fantastic, highly recommended. Overall the place gave us a 20th wedding anniversary we will never forget.
- Zdzislaw (8/5): It was very pleasant beautiful beach but food needs to be a bit better more veggies - Peaceful location A little bit neglected needs mor maintenance and paint work
- James (9/5): Was able to properly unwind - will definitely be going back - Staff were helpful and lovely - big, big smiles!!
Beautiful location and great food in the restaurant.
- Ruth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yvonne (10/5): - Wonderful and friendly staff. Genuinely impressed with the care taken and effort made to ensure our stay was amazing
- Michele (9/5): A great place to stay on Santo. - The resort is in a great location and a short drive from the 3 Blue Holes. Our villa was just steps from the sea. It was wonderful lying on a day bed watching the waves from our deck. The restaurant offered a good selection of meals and drinks. The staff were quite helpful. The massage I had at the Day Spa was absolutely fabulous. We were very appreciative of a late check out, as our flight was late in the day. The villa is showing its age and could do with a bit of a freshen up.
- Lianne (5/5): My mistake in booking it - no Airconditioning
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nansi (10/5): - Barrier Beach Resort is absolutely magical. It sits on a pristine, teal blue lagoon, with beautiful coral gardens, perfect for snorkeling, kayaking and SUPing. The staff is first class ((Sophia, Rose, Marcel and Tony were amazing) and the food superb. Every table at the restaurant has an outstanding view of the lagoon. Our ocean front room was lovely with a spectacular view of the water. We were lucky to spend 20 days here, and we will be back. The hosts Sabine and Wayne were truly caring, accommodating and vibrant. They are super friendly and very welcoming. BBR is definitely a shining star in Vanuatu.
- Tanya (10/5): Very very good! and great value! - The included breakfast was plentiful and fresh. The lunch and dinner menu again was fresh and wonderful. The equipment - snorkeling equipment, SUP Kayaks, Bikes etc were all included and there seemed to be plenty for everyone. Our room with plunge pool was spacious and very comfortable with an amazing view (also) of the dugongs The staff and management were so friendly and accommodating. We will come again! NOTHING !
- Jade (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing facilities, welcoming staff who go above and beyond an incredible place to stay in Santo.
- Tracy (9/5): Superb -
- Stacie (9/5): Great location and staff! - Staff and location
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- juan (10/5): - beautiful location ,great staff and lovely accomodation
- Melinda (10/5): A divine resort located on the East coast of Santo. - Everything... We went to the Barrier for our Wedding Anniversary and they definitely exceeded our expectations. We stayed for 6 nights and staff were floorless. The staff; Sophia (Anna), Rose, Tony, Rob and Catherine were stand-outs. The food was 5 staff, so fresh and delicious with daily specials for every appetite. Staff assisted with arranging daytrips, and so friendly just hanging around the resort. Snorkling equipment and kayaks available... the location a stone through (or bike ride, or kayak) away from divine blue water holes. Our anniversary evening was made so beautiful with handpicked tropical flowers setup for our table (then moved to our room), and a complimentary cocktail from the Manager.
Just a perfect stay. There was nothing that we didn't like, other than having to go home at the end of our stay.
- Avril (10/5): Fabulous! Can't wait to return. - We found ourselves out of our comfort zone coming to a country we knew so little about, staying on Santo Island exceeded our expectations. The staff at Barrier Beach were amazing, they were happy to interact with us and teach us their language. The service was exceptional. Everyone was so welcoming, going above and beyond to help us to navigate our way around the island and provide us with insight as to where we should go and visit. We went for some relaxation and it definitely fit the itinerary for that. The beach front fare was amazing, waking up to the birds and sounds of the ocean was magical, then when you open the curtain and see the amazing beachfront was spectacular. The food was always fresh and very well cooked. I couldn't recommend this resort more!!! My only suggestion would be to replace the beach lounges as they don't function very well and maybe some beach umbrellas for those of us that are sensitive to the sun.
- Marlene (10/5): A great place to unwind and relax in comfort! - Barrier Beach is a beautiful location within easy distance of Luganville. The bungalow was lovely - very comfortable king size bed and great rainfall shower. We loved being lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves each night. We ate in the restaurant every day and the food was exceptional. The staff are friendly and no request is too much trouble. We were given a late checkout to coincide with out departing flight at no extra cost. Looking forward to returning to stay again one day.
- Leonardus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (8/5): Very good - Great location & really lovely staff, would highly recommend staying here. There was loud construction noise immediately next to our room during business days/hours.
- Jeremy (7/5): Great location, great food and wind staff. - Lovely beach, good snorkelling. Food was great and staff just so friendly and helpful. Very exposed to the wind when it is blowing.
- Lee (7/5): Good - The waterfront location was lovely. Good bathroom. This resort had good Australian Chardonnay which was in date ..very pleasing. We had a garden view room which was depressingly dark. Its very difficult to dry any wet clothes.
The dinner at the restaurant was terrible for both of us..I couldn't even eat mine. Barrier Resort didn't charge us for poor meals which was decent however their restaurant has a poor reputation so we are surprised they haven't sourced better cooks or trained those they have.
- Andrea (10/5): overall great holiday and would recommend - lovely room, right beside beautiful beach and staff super friendly and helpful kayaks not useable they needed to be cleaned
- Bree (8/5): Very good -
- Alice (8/5): A very special and peaceful beachside stay. - Staff were lovely, and always so helpful. Rooms were cleaned so often and it was nestled in the most peaceful place. The restaurant had great daily specials and the cocktails were delicious. Our beachfront fare was really lovely but small. We also shared the beach front with 3 other fare’s, which at times lacked privacy.
- Murray (10/5): - We loved our stay at Barrier Beach Resort. The Staff are super attentive, always cheerful & informative. The accommodation pacific style, comfortable, clean & spacious. Our room was beach side- terrific views & ocean sounds through louvers & fully mosquito screened. Very generous bathroom with all the facilities you'd expect from a resort. Restaurant was beach side - great bar drinks, happy hour, food scrumptious & good variety - servicing staff so attentive, nothing was to much. Activities readily available & organised by the office.. I would mention a bunch of names of people that really touched our souls & made our stay super special but I don't want to offend anyone because it takes a team to run such a well oiled machine. Gardens were beautifully manicured. We were excited to see they were working on a new space for guest to enjoy gathering, read, play boardgames and lounge. I hope we can come back at a later date to make use of it. :-D Thank you to our hosts Wayne & Sabine for checking in with us on a daily basis to see how our day had been. WE LOVED IT.
- Hayley (8/5): Very good - The personalised and attentive service made this resort a stand-out.
- Ashanthi (8/5): Very good -
- Paulo (10/5): True paradise! - The location is splendid, a true paradise! Also shout out to the delicious food we were fed, a remarkable achievement considering how remote we felt we were! No cons other than the bed mattress which was a bid too soft for me but really it’s not even that much of a big deal! The place was amazing
- Gail (10/5): - A beautiful idyllic quiet resort , well presented ,wonderful staff ,excellent restuarant with bar and menu choices .We stayed in Fare 8 in the excutive beach front suite which was just ideal for us. Rob ,Wayne and staff were very friendly and welcoming .They organised transport options to see the Famous Nanda and RiRi blue pools as well as arranging taxi for my husband to do his Scuba diving down at the Coolidge . Wonderful spa treatments for the ultimate relaxation . Overall we could not fault anything because we had a wonderful tropical getaway. Perfect for our 30th Wedding Anniversary . We thoroughly would recommend staying at the Barrier beach resort.
- Amelie (9/5): Superb - Perfect beachfront location with little reefs to snorkel and dugongs right outside the room. Amazing staff and little restaurant.
Would definitely recommend the beachfront fares.
- Luisa (10/5): We had a fantastic stay here and would definitely recommend Barrier Resort. - Amazing location right on a picturesque beach, we had a water front room. Beautifully designed resort using exposed timber, contemporary style with traditional touches. the staff were the best I've come across, they actually remembered our names and were very friendly. Meals were very good. It was good to have a massage on site. It was quiet, other guests were not loud and noisy and clientele mostly kept to themselves. It was good to have flippers to use. Internet was very unreliable , however I believe that was the provider, not the hotel's fault. Meals and bar were very good but a little pricey.
- Chris (10/5): Best place to stay at Santo - The property is beautiful and quiet, with spacious huts and plenty of privacy. Nice views from the restaurant terrace. Fantastic and easily accessible corals in front of the property. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They arranged several amazing day trips for us. The restaurant has an amazing cook who cooks excellent meat dishes as well as Italian and Asian cuisine. The best we had in Vanuatu in 2 weeks - by far! We had to stay an extra night because of flight cancellation and the manager was very welcoming - even making sure our room was ready again when we returned. We were very happy to stay that extra night! Highly recommended. -
- Brianna (10/5): - The food at barrier beach was AMAZING! Definitely one of the highlights of our trip. The resort is beautiful and has such a nice vibe about it.
Emmy was lovely and such a help in organizing us day tours, horse riding, etc. :-) thank you!!
- Vivienne (10/5): Beautiful introduction to Vanuatu- a place to completely relax or be active if you wish. Snorkelling kayakingvetv and ea - beautiful location and lovely peaceful resort. very friendly and helpful staff. nothing
- Verite (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyed my stay 😊 Santo is amazing - This is a beautiful resort and the location is stunning. It would be helpful if there was a folder in the room giving you an idea of what’s around you to do activity wise. What you should expect to pay for bus hire etc
Just a general introduction to the area.
- John Andrew (10/5): - We stayed on the fare on the beach with the plunge pool and it is the perfect getaway for couples. Rob and his team set up private dinning on the beach to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Extremely well kept property and exceptional service from all staff.
- Sarah (8/5): A Beautiful Haven nestled where the Coast meets Jungle. - We loved the location and the private beach with kayaks. We went for an evening kayak each day and it was so serene. The views are stunning and if you get up early enough you can watch a magical sunrise. Rob and the team were excellent - incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was delicious with a good choice for vegetarians. The design of the resort and layout was beautiful with all of the interlinking walkways.
Big thank you to the team for making it so special for us on our honeymoon. We will definitely be back! There isn’t anything that we didn’t like but for some constructive feedback / comments:
1. We thought the 4.5% credit card surcharge was a bit excessive when everywhere else in Vanuatu is 3%.
2. The breakfast that’s included was lovely however there was some items included and some to be paid for as extra. For the price of the room night you would expect to have all breakfast items included. However just to add that the omelette we had was delicious!
- Jonathan (10/5): Paradise - We stayed here for ten days over the xmas break. Barrier Beach Resort is set on a sheltered bay, in a beautiful location. We had the most relaxing stay, everything about this resort is perfect. The owners are friendly and accomodating, the staff really are exceptional and go the extra mile. After trying a few lunches elsewhere we thought the food at Barrier was the best on the island. There’s a wide selection of choices from the menu and the wine list is great too. There’s kayaks and snorkel gear to use free of charge. Santo itself is well worth the extra effort to visit, it’s a stunning island and the locals and their culture are amazing. You’ll be rewarded with something special as a holiday destination. nothing
- Katie (10/5): the perfect stay in Santo - Rob and his amazing team at Barrier Beach are truly exceptional! the resort is stunning and the local ni-Vanuatu staff members are just gorgeous. Highly recommend everything was amazing
- francois (10/5): - Restful week in a beautiful place
- Will (9/5): Superb -
- Stacy (10/5): Heaven on earth! - Beautiful rooms, location on the beach is one not to be missed! staff are wonderful, no request was to hard, made our stay and visit to the island east and unforgettable!
- Dirk (9/5): Superb -
- Bruce (4/5): Not what I paid for. - Pillows were like cement bags.
Spa massage table stunk of mould.
Room louvers and inside roof had mould and splattered bugs.
Hire cars organised were death traps.
Being given fare 7 that is not absolute beach front like I paid for.
Then being offered another room with no aircon that was filthy. Fare 1.
Other guests whilst I was there had the same thing done to them but were given a discount.
Poor effort Rob.
- Neelimay1 (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the restaurant, views, private villa and ambiance of the whole place. It's very secluded and Rob one of the owners is very hospitable and really makes an effort to come to you daily to chat and help you organize days activities
- David (10/5): The host of the property was absolutely outstanding and accomodating when we faced flight delays we were offered complem - Beautiful surroundings easy access to water. Great location for exploring other sites.
- Mary-Ann (10/5): - The resort is nestled amongst beautiful natural settings. Accompanied by outstanding competent and friendly staff.
This little piece of paradise will cater to holidaymakers of all types. If you want a quiet retreat it fulfills or if you are seeking adventure it is in a central location to many adventure activities.
Memories will be made.
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Genevieve (9/5): Most beautiful location and resort we've ever seen! - The resort was absolutely stunning. The beach was the most on beautiful part of the island with the water being so amazing. Loved having access to snorkels, boards etc. Staff were beautiful including Catherine who helped us with cancelled flights and booking tours. Owner was very helpful as well and have good recommendations for the island. We had the most amazing time here and would love to come back. Food could do with some improvement but I think it was a working progress!
- Wayne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kim (7/5): Good -
- Bex (10/5): Absolutely Stunning. Could not wipe the smile off my face at Barrier Beach Resort. If you have the choice to stay here y - Absolutely Stunning. Could not wipe the smile off my face at Barrier Beach Resort. If you have the choice to stay here you would not be sorry. Could not fault a single thing. Not only will the property and atmosphere take your breath away but the staff are amazing. They went above and beyond. Customer Service was award class. If I could have taken them home I would have. I can not wait to come back.
- Philippe (9/5): Superb - - huge and clean rooms
- air conditioning!!
- bungalows in the nature or on the beach
- very friendly and efficient staff
- ok breakfast - I paid extra for the plunge pool that was EMPTY
- The beach bar was closed , and filled up with a mess. So it less a view and impression of messy/closed hotel
- a bit too expensive for what it is
- medium quality food
- bad local coffee
- no nice view at the restaurant because the wind shields are always opened (even when no wind)
And because the beach bar is closed you can't really enjoy nice relaxing places with a view. It's pity considering the location
- pity you have to pay extra money if you want a more comprehensive breakfast
- Meg (8/5): Lovely location right on the beach. - We had a lovely stay at Barrier Beach, the snorkelling in front of the resort was great and the reception ladies were extremely helpful in organising us drivers and activities to do. Some of the info in the property listing is out of date. we had to purchase masks and snorkels to use and they were of terrible quality - all other places we stayed had these included.
- Pat (8/5): - Pleasant setting; good facilities, bar fridge could be updated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location is stunning - very relaxing.
Staff all very helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved this place it was absolutely heaven! I love that all the water activities were free and you could just go grab a kayak snorkel gear or SUP board anytime and the free bikes I just loved. The staff were also extremely friendly everyone calling you by name it was just really special :) also if for some reason on your trip you need wifi it is very good and works really well ...had to hand in a uni assignment while I was there and I was worried about being able to do it but sure enough the wifi was was really good
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A beautiful location and very sympathetic to the natural environment. The hosts and staff at those resort are attentive to every need and add make one feel totally "at home". The resort rooms step on to the sand so it is an amazing experience. Santo is a naturally beautiful island and the Barrier Beach Resort is a wonderful place to base your trip here
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I'm not typically compelled to write reviews but Julie & her team are something else. My wife and I went here on our honeymoon and their team was so amazing holding my hand through a myriad errors (thanks Expedia for those btw..). Communication was second to none with these guys and it's the sort of place you would happily put a rubber stamp of approval on with your name on it to friends and family... in fact, we're starting to plan the next trip now... Go here if you want serenity, beautiful beaches (I dont think the photos really do this place justice, its better when you get there), lovely service, good food, helpful local advice and an all round awesome island resort break. thank you guys.
- Jade (10/5): Amazing Place! - Stayed in a beachfront villa for 5 nights. Perfect location! Step straight out the door onto your own private deck with a beautiful view of the ocean. Restaurant food was excellent quality, staff super friendly and helpful. Would recommend to purchase alcohol and snacks to keep in your fridge as the food is on the pricier side.
- Katrina (10/5): Barrier Beach Resort was AMAZING - - We absolutely loved our 6 night stay at Barrier Beach Resort!! Julie, Calvin and all the staff (including Christine, Emmy, Rocky) are all so lovely and accommodating. The resort is large and sits on a private beach, which was absolutely stunning (never seen such turquoise water in real life). Snorkelling was amazing (so many fish! including Nemo clown fishes), standup paddle boards and kayaks were plentiful. They provide ample snorkel gear and beach towels to use, so no need to bring your own. We stayed in Fare 14 with the plunge pool. The room was really spacious, the bed super comfortable, and has everything you need. Wifi was very good in the room and throughout the resort. I booked in for a one hour massage at the on-site day spa and Jessica was amazing! The restaurant has good variety and rotating daily specials which was nice. Food does take a while to come out (everything made to order), but that is pretty standard across every place in Santo. We had an early flight to catch upon check out, and they really looked after us by providing breakfast for us to keep in our room the night before, which was thoughtful.
The only minor thing I could have done with was a line to dry our swimwear on our patio. They have a large rack in the bathroom but things dry slower inside than outside.
Otherwise no faults at all, Barrier Beach Resort was amazing and we had to most relaxing and fun time there. It was totally worth the money to stay here and be pampered!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Incredible stay. The scenery is amazing and the staff anticipate your every need. Would recommend to anyone.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Location is amazing. The beach is very pretty and right infront of the beachfront fares. Food and staff are excellent.
- Garry (10/5): Wonderful in the extreme - This has now set the benchmark for the best place we have stayed. Everything about this resort shouts quality. The location, quality food, super friendly helpful staff, quality bedding. The managers Julie and kalvin are great hosts and nothing is overlooked. There are very few places that can achieve this degree of luxury and quality.
- Jasmaine-Maree (10/5): - This was mine and my partners first holiday together, and our first time in Vanuatu. Initially we were really nervous as this was also our first holiday we organised ourselves. The staff were so accommodating. We arrived past middnight due to delayed flights and Julie ensured we were still going to be picked up by the complimentary shuttle bus- and our driver was extremely friendly and helpful. Upon arrival at some crazy hour of the morning, we were greeted by Julie and Calvin who showed us to our rooms and briefly informed us of where everything was. Of course we slept in the next morning but to our surprise we found the complimentary breakfast still available (best cocktails at resort restaurant, nice food) All of the staff were very friendly and every morning greeted us with a smile and friendly conversation. Catherine was extremely helpful in organising tours for us to and from our resort, booking taxis, and ensuring we knew our way around the resort and what was outside of the resort for us to explore- there were free bicycles to use to ride to places near by like the Riri bluehole and the Oceanic restaurant. Julie and Calvin offered a room upgrade as the air conditioning wasn't working in the first Villa. The upgrade was amazing with everything that was offered from the other Villa but larger space and open view of the water- it was so perfect my partner proposed on the beach at the resort! :) We loved our stay and the people of Vanuatu. Highly recommended. Will be back
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was mine and my partners first holiday together and first holiday without help to organise, we were a blindly nervous however the staff at Barrier Beach resort were so accommodating! Our flights were delayed, having us arrive way past midnight. Julie ensured we still had transport from the airport to the resort and as we arrived into the early hours of that morning, Julie and Calvin were there to greet us and take us to our rooms. Of course we slept in the next morning but to our surprise, the complimentary breakfast was still available. We met such wonderful staff who were very welcoming
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect relaxation spot with everything you need on site! Great service and awesome hosts! Restaurant is a bit pricey for Vanuatu standards, but when you are so secluded from everything, you can't be too picky with food.
- anneke (10/5): Relaxing beachfront boutique resort - We stayed for 8 nights and wished we did not have to leave! Calvin and Julie make great effort to get to know their guests and check in every day to ensure everything is as you had hoped for. Staff are super friendly, remember your name and your previous orders. Food was delicious, home cooked fresh bread and muffins, fresh tropical fruit plate and juices in the morning while you look out from the restaurant to the azure blue waters of Vanuatu. Excellent house reef for snorkeling. They arrange trips for you without any hassle. We stayed in Vila five which is 1 step away from the water at high tide. If you like the sound of waves and a breeze then Vila 5 is your place to go, if you are a light sleeper and prefer silence then choose a garden Vila. We could not have wished for a better holiday ! Highly recommended for couples
- Tim (10/5): - Luxurious yet basic
- Kevin (10/5): Really nice resort, right at the beach. - We stayed at Barrier Beach for 8 nights and were impressed right from the start. The temporary manager was waiting for us at the entrance, we were given a nice welcome drink and she explained everything about the resort and how our stay worked in detail.
Staff is really friendly and help you out with any questions, arranging taxis and tours. Absolutely great.
The rooms are very spacious and clean and tidy. We had a Beach Villa so ours was right on the beach, couldn't have asked for more.
Food in the restaurant was of very good quality as well.
All in all, we had a great stay at Barrier Beach.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A beautiful resort with beautiful people. Situated right on the crystal clear waters of Santos coast.
- Svante (10/5): Slice of paradise - We had such an awesome week here, it’s a little slice of paradise. Warmly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing stay with some snorkeling on the doorstep and world class diving a short drive away.
Renting a car is a good idea if you wanna have some freedom to look around on the east coast.
Recommended for singles or couples, no kids allowed I think.
- Karen (10/5): HEAVEN! - This hotel is beautiful - friendly local staff, amazing location, beautiful facilities, great food, fantastic accommodation, very attentive management, could not fault this property and did not want to leave.
I cannot praise this property enough.
We stayed in a garden bure surrounding by rainforest and butterflies. So serene!
Complimentary airport transfer and complimentary use do snorkel/canoe/paddle board gear are both fantastic value for money inclusions.
We stepped 5m off shore and were snorkelling with angel and clown fish - spectacular! Best snorkelling we've ever seen overseas and beautiful aqua waters!
Thank you so much to Calvin and his team. I will be recommending to all my customers (as I am a travel agent) and would happily return here.
So happy with our choice of stay in Santo - I can see why this hotel is number one year after year =D
- Diana (10/5): Relax - Loved the personal attention received library in th room hammock location and linen tablecloths the details made this a special place.
- Jodie (10/5): Peaceful sanctuary in idyllic location - Our extremely relaxing 3 nights here were definitely the highlight of our weeklong holiday in Vanuatu. We had a villa on the beach and the view from the deck was stunning. The staff were friendly and efficient. Anne, who was standing in for the regular managers, was friendly, approachable, very helpful but unobtrusive. The location and very peaceful and quiet. Right at our front door was good snorkelling and a beautiful beach and reef to explore - we were usually the only people on the beach or in the water.
- GJC (10/5): Great facility and hosts! - A terrific place to unwind and relax; nothing was too much of an effort to ask for the hosts Julie and Calvin...
