Guest Reviews
- Raymond (8/5): - Very nit
- Michael (2/5): - Stated 9pm close time on booking page but got there & was told they shut at 8:30pm yet sign on the door also said 9pm I was lucky someone was still there
Room had no tv or ensuit which for $130 pr night would at least have a tv
Was very disappointed with size of room, location, access to room & just general atmosphere of the whole motel.
- Dianne (2/5): - This property was more like a rabbit warren boarding house. There was NO tv as pictured. Shared facilities. Be aware a bond is taken to ensure no damage to the property.
- Lauren (10/5): - Really nice workers! great experience overall
- Marshall (10/5): Two day stay - Excellent stay , friendly staff and helpful. Place was clean and neat . Room had air conditioning and was small but fine for wanted and paid for.
- Greg (10/5): - Great place very homely
- patricia (10/5): - Loved our stay! One of the best places we’ve stayed!
Friendly staff, quiet, clean, great location, walkable to food, shopping, public transportation.
Nice outdoor area.
The place is well cared for and maintained.
- Robert (10/5): - I really liked the helpful staff, and the courtyard community area was pretty special
- Rowell Jr (10/5): - The Inn is nice and clean, Sean was cheerful and friendly
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very disappointed. No television in the room or shared kitchen/eating area. No parking attached. Only paid street parking. No basin in the toilet. Only one communal shower for all guests to use. Not cleaned between uses.
- Arno (6/5): - Service and reception great. Bedding clean.
- Jerome (8/5): - Clean room and good bed. Noisy but it’s the city so no worries
- James (4/5): - Very cluttered environment, I didn’t see any indication on the website that there would be a shared bathroom and kitchen either
- Karen (6/5): - Very lovely staff, Guest house property.
- Oxana (4/5): - I didn't say, Left right away. It is a lot of dust , it is look like carpet never washed last 50 years. it is 100% not good to stay if you have allergies
- Cameron (2/5): - I went to check in on the day, they refused me entry as id lost my license on my trip and didnt have photo I.D. still charged me refused entry and refused to refund me and said they cant refund same day bookings. Had to go elsewhere book another accomodation and never actually got past the front desk. The bloke was rude at the desk and not sympathetic at all to the situation
- Ryan (2/5): - A horrible last minute decision to stay close to the gig we were attending.
Arrived at 6ish to a locked reception door & 'We're closed' said from a dark window. After grudgingly allowing us entry he sighed, huffed & puffed his unhappy way through check in. 2nd surprise was the $150 bond payment which was more than the cost of the stay - Still un-returned to us 2 weeks after the stay. We were quickly shown to our room were it dawned on us what we had. A room, bed & mini fridge with about 500mm clearance from bed to wall. The choose your room on LM.com has 4 photos - 1 hazy shot of the bedroom & 3 of showers. Room Amenities has a bathroom listed with shower listed. Room definitely didn't have the space for a shower. After returning from the gig we then realized that the only thing possible to do in the room was read the bible - no tv. We didn't stay as it would have been awful to wake up in that awful room & stand in line for 1 of the 2 showers. Dark around the place at night with front gate wide open to anyone. Recommend 1st thing in ad should be - Rooms Have Nothing a Horrid Place with Grizzly Staff
- Aydan (2/5): - Had to pay a bond at the property wich was worth more than the stay this has still not been refunded and quite frankly this is absurd especially as I’m relying on that money if you do not sort this out asap I will have to escalate things would not reccomend anyone to stay here unless you don’t mind waiting for a refund of your bond!!
- Patricia (10/5): - Old fashioned Guest House. Shared facilities, clean.
- Tanaka (8/5): - The staff is so friendly. There are a train station and a market. Even in midnight, I didn't feel no danger around the hotel. But, I stayed 4 nights, and no room cleaning and towel change. Except for them, it was comfortable.
- James (8/5): - Clean fresh linen and towel, comfy mattress and pillow in a small, basic and affordable room. Walking distance to CBD and Central Train Station, tucked away on a quiet street. Friendly helpful owner and staff.
- Celia (10/5): - Lovely people running a super cute place! Thank you guys! 😊
- Adam (2/5): - Over priced
- YIFAN (8/5): - It is very close to the city center and easy to get around. The staff of the hotel is very welcoming and the service attitude is good. The downside is that slippers are not provided.
- Suzanne (10/5): - Manager is helpful and friendly.
- manuel (10/5): - I found everything about the kookaburra inn was absolutely fantastic and i would stay there again.
- Richard (10/5): - Good budget accommodation
- Brendan (10/5): - A wonderful place to stay administed by competant people. So friendly, so nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A very handy location and friendly staff. With a little TLC this could be a very great stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The cleanliness of the hotel was good.
It had on the advertisement a double bed and what looked like bathroom included in the suite or room but instead was shared amenities, which i did not like.
No TV in the rooms.
- Rob (10/5): First week of December - I stayed at the kookaburra inn for the first week of December 2020. I was in Brisbane alone, and this was more than suitable for my needs. Close enough to walk most places, but close to public transport for longer journeys. The room was clean and had great air conditioning. The shared bathrooms were also clean and worked well. I’d stay there again.
- Troy (10/5): - Super friendly check in manager, my gf left ear rings there and he happily posted them back to us. Really clean, good aircon and fridge and very comfy rooms, will dedinately make a point to stay again.
- Gail (10/5): A gem to find - Beautiful place , I always stay here when in brisbane , such good value for money ,
Friendly , helpful staff/ owner ,
Very clean , quiet and great location
- Manuel (10/5): - I found the property fantastic,i have stayed there twice and i will stay there again next time im in Brisbane.Sean is a wonderful host and goes out of his way for you, also has his mum staying with him at the moment and she is a beautiful lady.
- Manny (10/5): - My stay at the Kookaburra Inn in Spring Hill was fantastic it was clean the host was absolutely a gentleman very helpful very friendly and couldn't fault it at all.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Sean was very friendly and helpful when it came to accommodating my needs. Anything about the local area he's more then wiling to give you some helpful information.
The inn is located a short distance from the rail and some small shops.
All in all, a great stay for the price.
- Gail (10/5): Fantastic stay ; good value for money - Always a great stay
- Linda (10/5): Good budget accommodation - The hotel was clean, secure, quiet and comfortable.
Easy walking distance from the cbd.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Sean was very welcoming and nice. He was very helpful when needed and provided a hair dryer. Rooms were clean, contained a fridge in each room and a lovely little kitchenette just outside our rooms. Very centrally placed for our needs.
Thank you Sean
- Verified traveler (2/5): - No shampoo and no milk and tea and coffee and sugar and no soap and body wash no floor mate and face washer where I am staying now I get all of The things what I what that’s what rent is all about
- KIN (8/5): - I love this accommodation. I will choose again. Very nice!
- Courtney (8/5): - Liked that the property was right near the CBD. The Botanic Gardens was about a 30 min walk. My best recommendation would be to walk along the riverside, so worth it. The only thing that could have been better is having a towel/clothes rack that I could reach. It was too high for me which made it quite hard to hang things up.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Having a sink and a small fridge in your room is super handy. Sean is an great guy and always has time to give you suggestions or just chat and see how you’re doing.
- Jin woong (10/5): Very nice - If you go to brisbane for working holiday i will recommend here. Very nice hotel
- Toney (10/5): Great service - It was nice and clean the service was great, thank you to the people at Kookaburra lnn
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is clean well equipped place to stay at a bargain price in Brisbane. But what make Kookaburra Inn outstanding is the staff, especially Sean. He is the manager. I cannot think of any place that I have ever stayed for vacation or business where the person in charge was more helpful, concerned and hardworking than Sean and his family. There wasn't any problem that I had while visiting Brisbane that he didn't have a solution for or a helpful honest suggestion. I know this sounds too over the top to be true, but it is.
- Luke (10/5): Well worth it. - Overall the accomodation was good but the service was amazing. Great amenities and I plan to stay there every time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I had the most sincere customer service from Shawn. In fact, it felt as if I was talking to a friend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good place and good stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice and quiet
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Sean was extremely welcoming and helpful. The hotel was spotless and the bed was very comfy. I would definately stay here again.
- Scott (8/5): - Enjoyed staying for a weekend with a friend in a twin room, even though we aren't twins. Comfortable beds. Simple & clean & shared bathrooms & kitchen work well & cruisy vibe at reasonable cost. Walking distance to the cbd. Close to start of 'Bridge to Brisbane' too, which is a fun annual event I've participated in the past 2 years. Highly recommended budget accommodation!
- sianm (10/5): Good location, immaculately clean - Lovely staff, great location and the rooms and facilities were immaculate
- Scott (8/5): - Sean is a friendly & considerate host, showing me around the Inn & making sure I was able to park for a minimal cost near the Inn. I found the accomodation to be very clean & satisfied all my needs for a quiet stay overnight to attend a function. Affordable & very handy to the CBD. I was reccommended to the Kookaburra Inn & I recommend it to others also!
- Anthony (10/5): - A very nice place to stay in Brisbane! Very clean and comfy hotel with everything you need. Close to CBD and shops.
Sean is a very nice guy and very helpful with any questions you have to visit around!
Highly recommended for a stay in Brisbane.
- Kong (10/5): - Nice neat room, clean, very convenient to walk around town. Manager is very helpful to give advice and suggestion. Overall wonderful stay.
- Carol (10/5): - It was quiet and friendly staff. I was happily surprised at how quiet it was at night. Had a great sleep.
- George A (10/5): Comfortable place to stay - Sean is the most gracious and considerate host you could ask for. There is a place to hang out your laundry, room to hang things up in the room, great privacy, a fridge in the room, several clean and well equipped kitchens, beautifully maintained garden, and not far from a supermarket.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great facilities, great price - Really nice and helpful staff, good facilities considering how cheap it was, would recommend
- Susie (8/5): no frills guest house - Well located guest house walking distance to the river and cafes and cbd. Think old fashioned boarding house, share bathrooms, share kitchen but everything is immaculately clean and tidy and well run. Perfect for a stop over for my daughter and I as they had rooms with twin beds and it was well located.
- James (10/5): - Nice clean hotel with the services that I needed, I had a nice relaxed stay as part of my tour of Australia
- Peter (10/5): Friendly helpful staff - Great location and very clean accommodation. Really nice and helpful staff. Will stay again!
- Stephen (10/5): Nice hotel close to college - Very nice quiet friendly close to transport and shops and restaurants great staff lovely place to stay
- Steven (10/5): Excellent service - Sean recently bought the Kookaburra Inn and has enough enthusiasm for 5 people. He bent over backwards to be helpful. He suggested itineraries for my 3 day stay. Spring Hill is a hill so be prepared for a climb several times per day. The inn is very basic but the stay was very pleasant.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Short stay. Friendly staff. Ideal for travellers on a budget.
- Ardwan (8/5): Friendly staff - Motel location is great, so accessible, walking distance to heart of Brisbane. Great choice for badguet travelers.
- Tracey (8/5): Good value for money - We only stayed one night & were pretty much in & out. the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the amenities were clean, the staff were friendly & helpful. We did struggle with the stairs & our heavy suitcases, although the staff helped us when we arrived to get them downstairs. It was difficult to close the doors quietly which I was very aware of due to our early departure & trying not to wake others. I have not stayed in this sort of shared accommodation before but it worked well for what we needed.
- Richard (10/5): Value for money - It was clean and cool as the room had a heat pump/air conditioning. The fridge was adequate; it worked for what I needed.
- SIMON (6/5): - Room was clean and very basic. Staff were friendly and helpful. From reading the hotel reviews I did not have the service and facilities in was expecting.
- katherine (6/5): - I was expecting a motel type accommodation. I booked 2 double rooms and this was confirmed and also advised we were sharing a bathroom. I did not realise the Inn was in fact a guest house so that was pretty disappointing. I can't rate the staff as we never saw them.
- Dennis (10/5): Perfect for a sleep over base in Brisbane - The Inn was quiet and close to the centre of the city. There is nothing wrong with it. For me it was purely a sleep over place so I didn't use the kitchen or facilities except the bathroom and bedroom
- sam (8/5): close to cbd - me experience was good but there is no staff or attendant to talk to incase something is missing, otherwise peaceful and homely environment.
- Hong (10/5): very great, and nice landlord - The room is very clean and well-facilited. The landlord is also kindly and introduce every facilities. A great experience!
- Kay (8/5): Cheap hostel type, clean, friendly guests and staf - The sign at the front is poorly lit and hard to see at night.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great City location. - Great staff and location. I would stay there again next time I in Brisbane. Staff was really helpful and accommodating. Room was extremely clean and tidy. Wendy was really nice and helped make the stay as easy as possible. The rooms are great value for what you pay. I have already recommended it to other friends and family for the next time they are heading to Brisbane. It was easy and safe to stay at and you could come and go with easy and taxis etcetera picked me up extremely quickly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cute Little Inn - Although doesn't appear to be much from the outside, it is a very cute quaint inn and has a lot of character on the inside. The facilities are nice and the rooms are comfortable. There is a kitchen for those who need it and many items necessary within the kitchen (as well as some food and spices). Would 10/10 recommend if you need a place to stay in Brisbane.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Old simple style. Well for money - Old simple style. Well for money. Late check out only 20 dollars extra
- Gavin (8/5): Excellent value place in central location - I had a very pleasant four-night stay at the Kookaburra in a single room. The staff were very helpful in letting me check-in early as soon as I arrived, and to take a shower after check-out at the end when I had a late flight.
The single room had a good bed, A/C, shelves for clothes, and a very helpful sink and personal fridge. The Wifi was excellent. The shared facilities (toilet, shower, kitchen) were kept in good, clean condition.
The location in Spring Hill is quite central in that you can easily walk to the CBD, Central Station, and Eagle St. pier for ferries and restaurants. There is a Woolworth's supermarket a short walk away. Chinatown and the bars in Fortitude Valley are also not far away. The only downside of Spring Hill is that it's residential with no cafes or bars in the immediate vicinity of the guesthouse.
Overall, this was an excellent value place to stay and I'm glad I choose it.
- MICHAEL (8/5): Convenient clean hotel - Good for the price. Easy checkin/checkout. Not luxury but a good guest house type accomodation
- Kimberley (6/5): Clean affordable - Warm welcome plus I checked in early, clean room could smell the disinfectant, air conditioned, fridge and sink in room. desk to eat at. draw, shelf, hanging space. Good firm mattress Not ensuite but toilet opposite and two separate showers so no queuing. Shared TV room and Kitchen with Microwave, Kettle, toaster, tea and coffee to use(no milk). two out door seating areas, use of barbeque area. Free wi fi. Towel and soap provided.
Decor could do with up date(mould in sealant ect). hospital feel to room. access to my room via out door rickety open step staircase(would need to state on booking, as some ground floor rooms available). Could hear occupants in other rooms chatting.
Overall positive, good value served my purpose.
- Coral (8/5): Easy walk to the city - Close to the city and Brisbane Private Hospital... Nice homey feel, handy communal kitchen
- Josh (10/5): Lovely staff in a homely environment - The staff at Kookaburra Inn were friendly and welcoming. Kookaburra Inn was a clean and affordable option for an overnight stay in the city. I will be recommending to friends.
- Chong Wai (8/5): Home away from home - The room is very clean and comfy. Great place to stay for those who'd like to cook. Utensils and basic condiments are all available. Great WiFi. Coin laundry machines are accessible. The only problem is the lack of air-conditioning / heater.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - very comfortable and in a good position.
wifi free and fast.
kitchens useful and clean
- Deirdrie (6/5): - Stayed overnight prior to departure o/seas
- Kimberly (8/5): This is a gem!! - A couple of days in Brisbane, exploring before heading to Byron Bay.
I am a backpacker, but I'm not in my gap year or just out of university. Dormitory style hostels, while for my budget and my style of travel, do not suit me.
Kookaburra fits my likes perfectly. Sociability with shared kitchen and common areas to meet fellow travelers, with a single room for good rest and privacy, for a budget price.
Kookaburra was clean, the owners generous and kind, fellow travelers I met similar to me, a quiet and peaceful stay and a superb location from which to walk to pick up the city cat ferry, the hop on hop off bus, the queen street mall, etc.
- John (8/5): Convenient to catching train to Airport. - Although it was very cheap and therefore pretty basic it was clean and tidy. Good for an overnight stay if going to
Airport (about 10-15 minute walk to Central Station).
- Ebenezer (10/5): Excellent value with great proprietors - If you are on a restricted budget this is definitely the place for you in Brisbane - close to the city centre and with really caring hosts. Even if you are not on a budget, you should consider this cute little place - it does the basics extremely well with great WiFi and it could teach the big hotels (at five tomes the price) many things about what hospitality is all about. Don't look for luxury, but you will find great value and genuine friendliness.
- Hannah (10/5): Great place to stay - Clean comfortable quiet, nice location to escape busy city.
Woolworths down the road 2mins. 15mins walk into the centre there is a free bus but didn't use it.
really enjoyed staying here quite residential area but close to city best of both worlds.
- Val (8/5): Very good location, very friendly staff, quiet. - Highly Recommended !
A friendly environment, in an excellent location with clean and tidy rooms, kitchens and showers.
Free WIFI of good quality, excellent idea with the fridge in rooms, excellent price.
Cheers,
Val
- Alison (8/5): Clean, quiet backpackers, close to city centre - I was unfamiliar with the city, so the accuracy of location ("CBD") was really important
This place was easy to find, an easy walk from the river and the main shopping areas; supermarket is handy and it's got a well-equipped kitchen
The room and the bathrooms were clean
While I didn't make much use of them, it's got good shared spaces
- Verified traveler (10/5): - a very good sleep in a very nice place!
all super clean
very nice people with good advices (breakfast, markets...)
thx so much !
chloee
- Michelle (10/5): Nice hotel, walking distance to the CBD - Nice hotel, walking distance to the CBD. Friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Would recommend this hotel for short stays, very affordable. Manager was excellent, very friendly and helpful. Tip- Get a room with a air conditioner, as it can get very hot there
- Gary (8/5): Clean, comfortable and convenient... - Due to the AC/DC and Fleetwood Mac concerts in Brisbane, I couldn't find any CBD accommodation at all, so booked the Kookaburra Inn for a few nights. Was up is Brissy for work. Was worried about the low price tag and shared facilities, but the cleanliness of the rooms, the comfort of the bed, the (renovated) bathroom & shower... was all much better than I anticipated. Also, the convenience to CBD was a huge bonus... 3 to 4 minutes and $8 in a Taxi to Queen St Mall. Can't complain about that! On site manager Wendy - one of the true gems of this world and very friendly and helpful.
Only negative is that sometimes other people don't seem to know how to close a door gently, or talk quietly, or leave a shared bathroom after using it. This is no reflection on the Kookaburra though...
Stay there again? Absolutely...
Gary H (Melbourne)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good place to saty for your money! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff were courteous and accommodation close to city.
- kim (8/5): snug little hotel in amongst all the high rise - 7 day stay, good price $450 very clean room for one, plenty of space, plenty of showers and toilets, no fridge in the kitchen, but all the rooms have a fridge, and no screens on the windows, but you get that. staff were very friendly and informative, thanks to wendy and the guard dog, I came home very fit from all the hill climbing and cycling.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Bring earplugs! - The place wasn't too bad, but the noise carried a lot. We're not very sensitive, but we could hear everything that was going on in the next room, and the staircase right outside our room made the most extraordinary noise when people used it. We were also not informed of the 9 PM cooking curfew.. Plus points for having a lovely, big, fluffy dog!
- Desmond (10/5): a woundfull stay. - My short stay was quite enjoyable meet love people and looking forward to staying there on the 31st of December again.
