• Maria (2/5): Cottage in nowhere! - The property address was obscure, impossible to find. Arrived late at night, there was no coverage to retrieve messages and could not make calls to the property. After going to the local town we were able to ring the property however left three messages. No return calls. After two and a half hours we drove to Cessnock 35 minutes away and book Rydges. The following morning rang the property again no return calls. We drove back to locate the cottage the following morning. Reception gave us directions, the cottages was about one kilometre on a dirt road. After inspecting the cottage we decided to return to Rydges. The cottages was not a four star at all, maybe a one star. It was dark and mouldy. This property should be declassified. Not happy.

• Kylie (10/5): - We unfortunately couldn't make it to stay, but the staff were happy for us to change the booking to our brother and his wife so that they could enjoy the wedding of thier Son and his new wife. The staff were so understand of our situation and couldn't be more happy for us to change the booking. Our brother and his wife loved the place and had no problem with the accomadation, they said the breakfast was excellent and we surprised them with a cheese platter which they also enjoyed. They recommend this place and they will be going back when we can finally visit.them.

• Margaret (10/5): Perfect for couples to enjoy the Hunter Valley - Wollombi is lovely rural location, with essential pub and general store. Howell's cottage is set in a winery that offers tastings and our cottage allowed us to enjoy sounds of nature. We had another cottage near us but hear no noise and apart from seeing smoke from wood fire would not have known anyone else was around. Cottage has all you need, wood supplied for fire with an air conditioner as well. Supplies of eggs, bacon, tomatoes, butter and bread are left so you cook your own breakfast when it suits you. With so many choices to eat out, you may not need to do any other cooking. We found the pub great for pizza or a burger, with more upmarket eating choices in nearby towns. Circa 1836 at Pokolbin offers fine dining and worth a visit for a special occasion. Cedar Creek cottages provide a good base to visit the Hunter Valley. We were fortunate to stay prior to floods arriving again. Very sad to see the pub and surrounds are once again flooded so the hospitality trade needs tourists to visit and help them recover

• Joshua (4/5): Misleading descriptions - Room description included a spa, and cooked breakfast. Not great value when you turn up and find out the breakfast is cooked by you, and there is no soa. Really nice little getaway, just not worth the price, given the specifics.
• Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a lovely and peaceful stay at Ceder Creek. The individual cottages are free standing and overlook the vineyard. Staff were very friendly. The included breakfast hamper was waiting in the fridge, ready to be cooked (eggs, bacon, backed beans, tomato, bread, orange juice, milk). There was complementary port to sample and other wines from the vineyard available in the room to purchase (at a discount to the cellar door). Note: no phone reception or wifi in the cottage, a nice way to switch off!

Sometimes you don't realise how great it is to disconnect until you're forced to - there really is no reception here! Wifi at the cellar door though if needed. Loved our stay!

Cottage overlooks vineyards of a working farm. Very quiet location, with ample space to walk around and explore.

• john (10/5): Cabin on a hillside - We drove past the resident mob of furry wallaroos and ducks on the dam each evening to our quiet secluded one-room cabin on a hillside overlooking bushland, vinyards and distant tree-covered hills. After lighting the slow-combustion stove we lazed around in the warmth with our cheese platter and excellent Stonehurst wine. It just doesn't get better than this!

The kids loved a visit from Seamus the black labrador in the morning. This was a return visit and would highly recommend these cottages for accomodation and would gladly return again.

Staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast provisions were great. Spa was a great bonus in the hot temperatures we had while there and the cabin, although modest, was very comfortable and had everything we needed.
• Lyndy (4/5): Seen better days... - Unfortunately, this accommodation did not come up to standard. It was dirty, the dinner chairs were dirty, dusty and broken, there was garbage in the bins from the last guests, we were told there was a/c and there was only a/c in the bedroom which could not possibly reach the living area. We were there on a majorly hot day and it was so uncomfortable I spent the afternoon in a cold bath. TV antennae had been unplugged and we waited ages for this to be fixed. Went to use the frypans in the morning to make breakfast and they had old oil in them still. No conditioner or shampoo supplied just four tubes of 'bath gel'. The lady that checked us in was lovely, quality of the breakfast items was great and bed ok, towels were lovely and fluffy. Sadly however, I think this accommodation has seen better days and could do with a revamp and a decent clean! The view and location were fantastic. I wanted to love it but the negatives really let it down. To top it off, $20 fee for only one night stay was not stated on Wotif's site (yes it's on the Cedar Creek page but we didn't see it on Wotif), we got an email about that after we'd already booked it through Wotif, also an extra penalty charge for using our Amex which we always avoid by using the Mastercard instead but they charged us without even giving us the option. This left us feeling ripped off a bit before we even got there. A bit disappointed.
• Verified traveler (10/5): Serenity NOW - Stayed there for only 1 night but wish I'd stayed longer, when you arrive you feel like you have truly escaped from the city, the staff are friendly and gave us a truly great one on one experience. Animals roaming was a great touch to a beautiful backdrop from the verandah, highly recommend

We really enjoyed to peace and tranquility of the surroundings and the well appointed cottage. It was great to just relax on the veranda with a glass of wine and listen to birds and feel the peaceful silence of the nature. The wine we had was from the Stonehurst vineyard was superb and delicious. Everything was great and we felt so well looked especially the breakfasts provided - yum and filling. The hospitality was great. All the creature comforts were provided with the charm of a rustic and private cottage.

• Martin (8/5): Cosy cottage overlooking the vineyards - Very cosy cottage. Great place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You couldn't ask for a better view of the vineyards. Only negative was that it was spookily dark when we got there, if you expect to arrive at night time, make sure you request that they leave the lights on for you.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Rural bliss! - We absolutely loved our stay at the Timbercutter's cottage. We loved quietly sitting looking over the organic vineyards, walking around the property with the dogs, cooking on the wood BBQ and eating at the picnic table under the stars, and going to sleep in complete darkness! Wollombi is just down the road and also beautiful. The wine provided for purchase in the cottage was absolutely delicious - our tasting at another organic winery did not match it at all! Phillippa is an absolutely gorgeous person and talking to her was the icing on the cake. We did not want to leave and highly recommend it.
• Juan (10/5): Excellent place to relax - This is the perfect place to relax and re-connect with nature. From our cottage we could see the vineyards, horses and more. I would strongly recommend this place if you are looking into something peaceful, relax and comfortable.

Everything was perfect for our requirements and the little touches made a real difference to our enjoyment of the property. The fire was set for us on arrival, so all we had to do was light a match and within a few minutes we were enjoying a glass of wine in front of the flames. Tasty breakfast provisions were in the fridge so no need to nip out to the shop. Added bonus that the wine produced by the owners is wonderful and available at a discount to guests! The males in our group enjoyed some mountain biking in the immediate vicinity while the females took the short trip to a nearby spa for some pampering.

The cabin had a very well equipped kitchenette, great fireplace and lovely bathroom. Phillipa came by on our first afternoon and dropped off our breakfast basket and gave us a run down of different walking tracks available.

• Kas (10/5): Secluded Cottage by the Vineyards & Stunning Views - My partner and I stayed at the cottages midweek, which turned out to be a fantastic choice because we had the entire area to ourselves! There are 3 cottages set by the vineyards and we stayed at the Timbercutter's Cottage, which is at the end of the road, thus the most private. We arrived in the evening to a complimentary decanter full of DELICIOUS port and tried our luck with making a fire. Firewood is provided in a shelter next to the cottage, but if fire building isn't your thing, there is electrical heating in each room. A complimentary breakfast (eggs, tomatoes, rashers of bacon, cereal, milk, orange juice, fresh coffee ground) was provided in a cute little picnic basket! The cottage itself is simple and rustic and you don't feel like you're going without at any point, as all basic necessities and amenities are provided. It's located a little ways out from the main Hunter Valley area (about a 40 minute drive to Pokolbin), so there's no phone reception or internet connection, which we didn't realise until we got there, but turned out to be a bonus as it's absolutely perfect if you're looking for a proper getaway. The best moment of our stay was waking up the next morning to a clear skies and sunshine, stepping outside onto the porch and seeing the area in daylight. Two words: IT'S STUNNING! Plush green grass and trees, mountain range views, vineyard right in front of the cottage, beautiful leafy vine wraps. We ate our breakfast on the porch every morning after that.
