Guest Reviews
- Carmel (8/5): - Bigger cups...ie mug bikkie might be nice too....U certainly didnt need to do much for $290...........
- Leeanne (2/5): - There was no milk in the room and was the 3rd room I was put in. 1st had no heating, 2nd had no curtains. đŹ
- Thao Alice (10/5): - The place is nice, very convenience
- Bruce (4/5): - I would have to be desperate to stay here. The room smellt like a toilet, towel rail broken, spiders, poor condtition. This place need a makeover.
- Heather (6/5): - This is a very ordinary basic hotel and extremely over priced.
- Darren (10/5): - Very helpful staff.
- Sharron (8/5): Sphinx for Avalon - The Sphinx probably had its heyday in the 1980âs and still retains the optimism of that era. Our room was sparkling clean with none of the dreadful chemical deodoriser smell some older premises use. As an asthmatic - thank you Sphinx! The restaurant and bar are handy and the service excellent.
- Ann (6/5): - Very noisy until 2 pm
- JACKIE (8/5): - clean basic motel room but bed was very comfortable. Food at bistro was lovely too
- Byron (2/5): - All crap all un professional
- Dan (10/5): - Location
- Sunil (4/5): - Not worth of money, not clean enough
- Shirley (8/5): - The room was clean, but up some steep stairs. There was no parking space in front of my room, only for the room downstairs.
The usual extras such as biscuits to have with tea or coffee, & bags for sanitary items in the bathroom were not evident.
- Laurie (6/5): - The sphinx look at the front was good
- Topl (6/5): - Rooms were extremely warm due to the room facing the afternoon sun. Aircon bately worked efficiently for the room size. Went and bought a fan from Myers store so we could sleep comfortably.
Had bistro meals were great and plentiful for dinners.
Had issue when wife and daughter walked back to room and were stopped and told to walk around in the excessive heat that evening by stsff. Unacceptable. They were not stopping in the gaming area, just walking through to access the room. Daughter was 13, accompanied by wife and just walking through...
If this is an issue, then doors should be closed off and or monitored by security or staff. Had we known this was a problem then we would of left and asked for refund on first night. Such an inconvenience and in hot temperatures was not liked.
Albeit another direct route to the rooms must be provided without accessing the gaming area. This could be a big issue if a family with young childres are staying, or in event of bad weather
- Darren (6/5): - Great location and dining experience was really good and playground was amazing for our 4 year old. Down falls is the pool was super dirty and didnât want our son going in there and I think itâs alittle over priced for what it is just a real basic room and bathroom was falling apart but it did the job.
- RICHARD (6/5): - relatively expensive, room to be expected, but overall a little uncared for and a little dusty/dirty utensils/glasses.
- AILIE ANNE (4/5): - Pool was dirty and unswimmable
- warrick (10/5): Unique hotel - Fascinating hotel.
Great food and service.
Very convenient for shops, restaurants and the Spirit of Tasmania terminal.
- Charles (8/5): - Did not have a towel and no way of filling up kettle which needs replacing due to being dirty.
- Denice (10/5): - Everything đ
- Dorothy (8/5): - Liked atmosphere meals and the shows
Staff were excellent
- Edward (4/5): - The room appeared to have not been cleaned properly. There was no cutlery except for 2 tiny wooden disposable teaspoons. The air conditioner was non functional. The doona did not have a cover but rather a loose flat sheet over it to give the outward appearance on a cover. The mini âfridgeâ was more like a mini freezer and froze everything that was placed inside. The pool looked to be a mess and wasnât usable. The staircase leading to the second floor of rooms was unsafe and had several steps that were not secure. The best part of my stay was the bistro dining experience, the staff were outstanding and the food was perfect!
- Kimberley (10/5): - The room was clean and had everything we needed.
Car parking outside the rooms and with the restaurant and bar right next door, was very convenient for dinner. All food was delicious and reasonably priced.
- Aylah (10/5): - Very excellent customer services
- Bradley (8/5): - Clean, convenient, transport was good to Kardinia Park.
- Margaret (2/5): - Nothing was good
- Greg (6/5): - Dining options were excellent! Room was old, and heating ineffective
- Debbie (8/5): - The mesl was great the staff friendly the room clean
- Skaiste (6/5): - Great location, short drive to city or to get back on freeway. Disappointed the price advertised was not the same I paid at the property, a difference of $20 as we checked in on a public holiday. On arrival no sign on reception to say we had to go to bar to check in. We booked as required wifi for night. Could not connect as said their hotspot had error & to sign in. Went to bar to enquire, no sign in needed should be auto & as no management on site. no one could sort the wifi. Odd for a busy Easter weekend.
Bar was busy with people & a ton of pokies for those that like that.
Room was good, just pity on service & additional cost, a dollar or 2 you can understand $20 not so much
- Leila (8/5): - Comfortable stay
Great for parking with trailer
AND pool
- Bruce (2/5): - Nothing
- Deb (10/5): - Great for parking out the back with a race car transporter, easy to get to from Avalon speedway
- Deb (8/5): - Air con battery needed replacing, forgot to tell anyone, room got a little warm
- JON (10/5): - Staff were awesome, and the menu had a great variety.
Food was wonderfu
- Bishoy (10/5): - Great place to stay will be back
- Eric (6/5): - The rooms were cramped but reasonable quality, but there were old soap bars in the bathroom and hairs on one of the beds. The staff apologised the next day and said weâd get a call but itâs been a week. People were slamming doors outside our room after midnight. On the positive side if you are into gaming and themed venues and partying all night this might be your venue, the bar / games room was right next to the accommodation.
- Adrian (2/5): - There was not water coming out on the hot water tap at all.
Couldnât contact anyone on site to have issue fixed terrible system in placed.
- Anita (8/5): Nice break - We booked the spa room, which was nice. The room was a bit dated, but clean and comfy. The staff went above and beyond duty though to help you, if needed.
- Sharri (10/5): - I was a bit iffy when i first pulled up but it was such a good set up, room was great with a spa bath and dinner from the bistro (although no room service, you could take away from the bistro to your room) was absolutely delicious. The staff were all helpful and friendly and the night was peaceful and quiet and bed was comfy.
- samantha (4/5): Check bedding - There were blood stains on the mattress protector. The kettle was so stained on the inside it made you feel sick. I complained and they gave me a full refund and changed the cover and the kettle. Management were very apologetic and very helpful. The bathroom was very tiny and gaps in the window frames for bugs and air to come thru. The actual dining area and food was beautiful .
- Clem (4/5): - very average room for the cost and for some reason the couple in the next room paid $ 35.00 less than we did no breakfast in room apparently you could purchase a breakfast box from reception which was closed at 4.30
- anne (6/5): - very poor and unsafe amenities for accomadation. Concrete uneven and broken potential trip hazards. The steps very dangerous and when stepping onto the ground form the last step ground falls away difficult to keep balance especially when negotiating with a suitcase. Shower in the room taps need some attention very difficult to regulate potential to be burnt by hot water On the positive side very helpful and friendly. Although a younger staff member was dismissive of an older patron when he wanting help to navigate the money dispensing machine in the pokies venue. The younger staff have to remember they are there to help the patrons and not find them problematic. I would have to think long and hard if i would stay here again due to the poor state of the buildings
- Monica (2/5): - We stayed 2 nights and unfortunately our room had a interconnecting door, the 1st night the rubber trim around the front door was mising so it rattled all night and we could hear the other guests clearly, every cough, toilet break, sneeze, the next night we stuffed toilet paper in the door and a towel behind it but 12pm we had a drunk girl next door that had vomited and pooped herself, she finally passed out 12.30 but 2pm her friend came back and it was full on, we could here everything, at 2.30 am they were ringing up some guys to come over so we packed and left at 3am, we only had 2 hours sleep and had a 5 hour trip ahead but there was no point in staying. So would definitely warn against staying there
- Sahara (10/5): - Such a lovely place to stay. Loved the Egyptian theme, loved the service & loved the atmosphere.
- Cheryl (10/5): - I checked in late as travelled from country vic by v/line transport got the keys from the lovely friendly woman in the gaming room was quick and easy to pay and pick up keys had everything I needed in my room comfortable clean bed the only thing I didnât like was didnât get to use the pool as it was April lol đ Would definitely be happy to stay here again
- Tess (6/5): - The room was clean and quite OK, but the steps up to it felt a bit unsafe, and I felt it was overpriced compared to other places.
The bistro at the hotel was great though.
- Elie (8/5): - meals at the pub was great.
- Sandra (10/5): - Was comfortable and clean.
- Michelle (10/5): - Very close to pokies
- Andrew (8/5): - The Sphinx was a very nice motel and came at a quite reasonable price. We enjoyed our stay there.
- Robert (10/5): - It was pleasant and relaxing. The staff were efficient and friendly.
- Mark (6/5): Very Basic - Very basic accommodation. The television did not work and after reporting to reception they sent a bar staff to try to solve the problem but he had no idea and returned to the bar leaving us with no TV and no explanation, apology or resolution. Feel it was very overpriced for what it provided but that was probably just cashing in on a concert i the area that night. Would not stay here again!
- Kelly (8/5): Weekend in G-Town - Always a decent stay, food at the pub is great and has 2 kids play areas.
We stayed 2 nights and the 2nd day we were not provided with extra tea and coffee, which we should have been as if we stayed one, the room would be refreshed. Towels were, so not sure why they didn't replace tea/coffee/soap etc.
Other than this, it's clean, basic rooms and a bit of fun.
Wifi did not connect.
- Cameron (8/5): - Quiet, easy parking, great value.
- Mark (6/5): - It was clean and did the job. Bed was only just.
- Wayne (8/5): - The ancient Egypt feel as you enter the foyer of the premises.
- Sandy (6/5): - Essential room facilities, the room that I stayed unable to access to wifi.
- Mon Harris (4/5): - The are heaps of mosquitoes and other insects inside the room.
- BRETT (2/5): - Don't stay at the Sphinx if you want a quiet room for the night.
The Gaming room is close and open until 3.00 am, so lots of noise from drunk people during the night. Overpriced for what it it is. I would rate the room as 3 star.
- Bernadette (10/5): - Very clean and staff very friendly
- Jennifer (6/5): - Architecture was amusing. Place was a bit shabby. Staff were friendly. Motel room more like hotel room- no microwave crockery, cutlery. In adequate when we unexpectedly had to stay for a week.
- Jason (2/5): - Beds were rock hard the room was full of mosquitos the bathroom door didnât close so no privacy to shower or go to the toilet and I have never stayed in a motel except this one where there is no water supplied in the fridge very overpriced for what you get
- Robert (10/5): - Staff at reception were very friendly and helpful with my enquiries and giving me directions where to go when I left. I will be staying at the Sphinx on my next travels
- Marshall (10/5): -
- Julie (2/5): - The room was ok but just that the shower was filthy mouldy and soap scum and the toilet ran all night tried to turn it off but the tap to do so was broken, I got up and left at 5am just to get home to shower and sleep
never again will i stay there
- Charles (4/5): - The bathroom basin was blocked. Water only drained very slowly. Also, no plug for basin.
- Mark (6/5): - The Bistro had good food.
No microwave, plates or knife & fork or phone to order room service in th rooms.
Room needed updating, coat of paint etc.
- Marica (4/5): - Toilet leaking No hairdryer Not going to stay there again was disappointing for the price that they charge đ
- Garry (10/5): - very nice
- Jo (8/5): Comfortable room great food - Comfortable room food at bistro was excellent !!!!!! Heaps of parking which was great because we had a trailer.
- Gordon (10/5): - Great place to stay , meals in the Sphinx are good and friendly and helpful staff.
- Elisabeth (2/5): - Couldn't sleep all night early hrs in the morning several drunken screaming matches in the car park outside the room, one fight would stop then half hour later another one would begin. Ghetto Bronx disgusting. They should shut of drinks to ferral people earlier on in the night so it doesn't get to this stage. Worst sleep at any hotel by far.
- michael (8/5): - Very standard room.
- Wayne (10/5): - Good
- Mark (2/5): - Did not get to stay I booked a spa room and got told was not available on arriving for our stay. A organised night alone with my wife in a spa room didn't happen. U would think due to there mistake some kind of complementary voucher ot room would of been offered.after wasting our time.
- Cassie (2/5): - Bed hard as a rock, bathroom window stuck open letting a freezing cold draft coming through. Extremely loud area. Managed appropriately 3hrs of broken sleep between the noise and cold
- Rosa-Linda (6/5): - The property was nice. But they need to vaccum the floor a bit better we had cereals and twistis on the floor.
Also requested a hair dry and they said they don't have any at all there, but it was stated upon request you could get one. Also wasn't any face towels.
- Jean (6/5): - Like it coz close to arena the place is good very unique design i only dont like we book for queen bed only got double and the pack of milk in the fridge is open except that all good
- Jan (8/5): - I liked that all the guests werent crammed in together with lots of space outside to walk around. But no microwave was a bit disappointing
- Rachael (6/5): - Heater didnât work absolutely froze overnight. booked spa room and only 2 small towels supplied and no microwave to heat up anything.
- Paul (8/5): - The staff were very helpfull.
- Josephine (8/5): - Good for a short stay!
â˘Close to town
â˘Good shower
â˘Reasonably priced
â˘Comfy bed
â˘Close parking
- Storm (2/5): - Staff gave out personal information regarding our booking resulting in drunken patrons knocking on and trying to enter not only my room but the room my children were sleeping in at 4 in the morning.
- Chanon (2/5): - 5 teens in a room party all weekend, no sleep at all
- Katrina (4/5): - The cleanliness of the rooms are horrible. Our bed was half made, had hair in the shower as well as marks on the shower screen. The bathroom bench looked like it hadnât been wiped down, the mirror hadnât been wiped at all and the bowl that holds the soap was full of dirt. My sisters room had a broken light switch. The light out the front of our room was broken which made it difficult to see to unlock our door and the light above the stair case is in desperate need of fixing. The flicking is extremely dangerous.
- Jack (10/5): - Good to location
- Maria (8/5): - The facility was comfortable . It is a bit rundown . Unfortunately tge noise from patrons using the outside smoking area in the early hours of trees morning keep us awake . The function room also was a bit thumped but stopped at a certain time.
- Susan (8/5): - The staff were lovely anf the food was tasty
- Allen (4/5): - Location was good for our purpose.
Meals facilities was good, BUT NO staff were wearing masks properly.
Room was expensive AND very basic, small and in need of some maintenance. EG, only one chair, A/C power point faulty, most taps needing attention & tops missing or loose. We had to do some on site repairs to use one tap & turn A/C on. The fridge was quite inadequate in
size and had not been de frosted since Eddy
Betts played for the crows đ˘.
We qualified for the government travel voucher to help boost tourism, which we needed to cover the expensive room BUT we could not get a properly dated receipt to apply for the travel voucher funds.
Overall â basic room & expensive
- john (6/5): - V
- yi (4/5): - Very basic facilities. Clean enough but mattress was so soft when I sat down I hit bottom. The pool, Ew. Donât make me think about it again please. Just Ew.
- wayne (8/5): - Great location as there was a concert on when we stayed there, but sphinx was opened till late which made it even better, would definitely stay here again.
- Carol (8/5): - An interesting stay for short term.
- Tracey (10/5): - Nice, relaxing & clean hotel, excellent staff Meal was absolutely beautiful in the bistro will definitely stay again
- Michelle (10/5): - I had a great stay, staff were all very helpful
- Kim (6/5): - Basic motel accommodation. Good location. Small room was clean and tidy. Bed was very comfortable. Booked for 3 people, but was only given one towel and 1/2 roll of toilet paper and no spair. No milk for tea and coffee. Good for short stay.
- Tim (8/5): - Large room, nice spa bath and decent pool; everything we needed.
- Nigel (10/5): - Pool was great , food and service fantastic we will be back
- Cassandra (8/5): - We loved the Egyptian Theme! Friendly staff with convenient bistro / bar
