It's got a nice quiet location, is always very clean and tidy, and is great value for money. The Hobbit will always be our first choice whenever we're in the area.

Shared bathroom was clean and showers were awesome.kitchen was clean and had everything I needed. This place also has the most amazing drying room for your wet ski gear. Only small issue was bunk bed was a bit squeaky. Would defo stay again.

• Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a good old-fashioned motel. Not flash, but has everything you need for a very reasonable price. We stayed in the bunk rooms and the beds were comfortable enough. Bedding was provided so this was one less thing to worry about. The bathroom facilities were shared, but the showers were hot and the water pressure was good. To top it off, WiFi was provided.

• Graham (4/5): Not so good - Room was quite good and spacious However the spa which was advertised was closed for repairs,and it was a deciding factor in choosing this place as we were doing a lot of hikes,and the caretaker was doing some renovation to the floor in another room till after 10pm when I had had enough and went to let him know that some people were trying to SLEEP! Also the tiny heater which sounded like a jet coming in to land kept cutting in and out all night

After we checked out we rode the Old Coach Road and they were kind enough to let us use the showers in the lodge when we got back before we headed home.

We had travelled up from Blenheim for our sons Army Reserve Marching Out Parade at Waiouru Military Camp. Ohakune is a lovely wee town and is easy travelling to Waiouru. I imagine during the winter it comes alive for the ski season. For us it was the right choice. Our only little thing was the heat during the nights. I’m sure if we had thought of it and asked, we could have gotten an upright fan from the Office which would have made sleeping a bit better. Thank you for our very pleasant stay. 😀👍

Great location for that. We got a very spacious and comfortable room. Our host was welcoming and very helpful with a little intro to what to see and where to eat in the area. Will definitely stay there again when we come back to do the Tongariro Alpine crossing again in better weather (which by the way is absolutely worth doing even in rain and strong wind).

• Verified traveler (8/5): Hostel room at a hostel rate - Stayed in the hostel rooms, not the larger rooms so do not use this reference for those larger rooms. Hostel rooms I have stayed in two, one had two bunk beds and the other a single bunk bed. Rooms are small, both had their own tv which could only be watched from the top bunks. Kitchen area is limited. Dining/Lounge area is limited. Spa is nicer/cleaner than some I've used in the area although a touch smaller, nice private outdoor setting though and still usable in the rain.

• Scott (10/5): Better than expected! - We had a group of 5 lads and we got a lovely little apartment that was warm and tidy. The spa was a life saver after being on the mountain all day and Ian and his wife made us feel very welcome.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Great location for ski slopes - Queen bed was far too soft, ended up with bad back. Otherwise all great. Single bed fab. SPA pool was out of order for one night and we so needed it, but to be fair they got it going by the next night. So well done.

• Niki (6/5): Nice atmosphere - No microwave in our room or plunger coffee pot. However, enough room for the 2 of us. Warm and comfortable. TV was a mission to find the channels as someone had 'played' prior to our stay.
• Gareth (10/5): exeeded our expectations - We had an overnight stopover and found the Hobbit Motor lodge to be very clean and extremely comfortable! We stayed in a standard studio and although basic it had everything we needed and exceeded our expectations. Would stay there again.

• Sooty (8/5): A close walk to town centre. - Great location. Super clean with great facilities. Felt like a "home away from home". Quiet at night. Warm room with great heating. Would definitely stay again.
• Hendos (8/5): Great ski base - Warm, clean, & comfy. Family-friendly base to ski from, lovely hosts (& their dog) were a pleasure to deal with (& pat).
• Kneale Family (8/5): Nice accommodation on road to ski fields. - We had a pleasant 2 nights at The Hobbit in some very cold weather with one day "housebound" due to the heavy snow and ice. The rooms are very comfortable and well equipped. Electric blankets for all the beds (other than the extra in the lounge area) were well received and very necessary. The staff were warm and welcoming. The lodge was easy to find.
