Guest Reviews
- Gayan (6/5): - Nice place in the middle of the city within close proximity to Airport and supermarkets and fuel stations. Conveniently located with ample parking. But, needs immediate renovation and gardening. Prices are reasonable.
- james (6/5): - Close to our required area Pillows were too small. Taps hard to turn off .no hand basin in toilet.
- Anouk (5/5): Niet zo schoon maar wel goedkoop en makkelijk - Goedkoop Vies, maar ja prima voor n nachtje
- Proud (10/5): -
- Guest (4/5): Place was ok basic with kitchen and heaps of beds … location was a bad neighbourhood - The place was ok but the area was dodgy bad side of town Location
- Rose (4/5): - we only needed a bed, which proved comfortable, communication was excellent as was the cleanliness however we were of the assumption that it is going to be demolished within the next year
- Lana (7/5): -
- lyn (4/5): - It was cold
- Guest (5/5): You get what you pay for i guess - Good location close to town Room was a little less than impressive cold lights weren’t working properly and had a funny odour beds were ok but no heating other than two little heaters upstairs and downstairs so was pretty cold for the price thoe its ok but if you plan on spending more time in the room other than sleeping wouldn’t recommend
- Sonya (1/5): Didn't stay as it didn't feel comfortable or clean with the state the place was in, ended up leaving - The place had poor lighting, there were holes in the walls in the bathroom, we turned the stove on and it was that dirty that it set the smoke alarms off. Small heater to heat the whole place, wasn't very nice. Bugs flying all around the rooms, beds and bedding didn't look very nice, certainly not worth what we paid for. We didn't end up staying and had to find somewhere else for the night. So ended up having to pay for two motels because Ferry Motels were not as they are described on Booking Com
- Sapphire (5/5): Passable - The owner was super friendly and nice. Location was great. Bed was a little small but comfy. The shower was better then it looked. Was a little rough holes in the wall, bit chilly needed more then one heater, couch was a little dirty. The price was good, just expected a little bit more.
- Mathew (9/5): Good service and staffs are nice. - Very clean and tidy. Not much expensive. Lights
- Debra (2/5): Short, we didn’t stay… - Nothing. The room was so bad. Should be NZD40 Where do I start!!
- Yuen (8/5): Not a bad stay - Great host, finally human interaction! Not the best location for Christchurch but it's good value for money. Would be good to have a bathroom door. As there was only a shower curtain and the shower area was very small. There was no place to hang the towel during shower.
- Haydn (6/5): Pleasant -
- Karen (9/5): Superb - Great location, central to everywhere we needed to be. Lovely staff, really helpful and friendly.
- Sean (6/5): Good budget stay.. - Very dated and in rough order, but plenty of beds at a fair price..
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was not so good, smell bad inside unit, pillows were not comfy
- Lou (7/5): Good - The staff were exceptionally helpful. There are obviously a few issues and renovations going on but the staff went out of their way to resolve any issues. They gave us a discount on another room when we added a guest at the last minute, and discounted that further when the TV wouldn't go. It was a very cheap rate, and was suitable for a boys weekend to watch a sports event. There were a few issues with the place but you get what you pay for, and it suited our needs just fine.
- Garret (1/5): Waiting for them to lodge a refund for us as room was not fit to stay there with our kids - Nothing Everything
- Ghayoor (1/5): Bad - Hated the place smelly not clean Bedsheets stinky, sofa seems like vomit
- Natasha (10/5): Was great for the time we needed - It was close to everything we needed
Room was serviced if needed everyday with a lovely smile The shower head came loose and I couldn't put it back right
Didn't have sky tv
- Viktor (1/5): Stay away from this place - Place is very old, dirty and smells terrible.Everything inside is overused and terrible with holes everywhere. This place needs to close down and renovate.Shame on me take my family there.
- Kobi (2/5): 3/10 too expensive for what was offered, no sky TV like advertised not kid friendly would say more - 3/10 too expensive for what was offered, no sky TV like advertised not kid friendly would say more like a workers accommodation heat pump advertised was a little heater and cord was burning hot so couldnt use it for the night not worth more than $50 a night Shower pressure is crap
- Esther (5/5): The complex is handy to convenience stores. - I totally love the housekeeper. She was so nice and extremely helpful A random came into the complex asking for narcotic's. She was not a guest at the motel. She tried to talk her way into our room.
The single bed bases & mattresses need updating as they sag in the middle.
- Gavin (1/5): Bad - The unit smelt
The main bedroom smelt like urine
The shower had black mold on the ceiling
- Karen (5/5): Would not choose to stay there now, knowing what it is like. - It was clean. It was very shabby and not in a chic way. Cigarette burns on the table. Couch has previously been used for dogs…you could smell it and I had a major allergy attack.
- Joseph (5/5): Passable - Very run down, holes in the walls some were badly patched up. The whole place is just old and needs a redo
- Primal (6/5): Pleasant -
- Arina (4/5): Read reviews before booking - The price point, although I feel like we could have gotten a much nicer place for a little bit more. The person taking care of the property was very nice and attempted to be helpful. Their laundry was down, so I was just charged a flat rate for her to wash and dry it for me, which was very nice. We had to ask another guest if that was the motel as there was no name sign at the front, pending renovation hopefully? Our stove had safety issues, but we were able to turn it off. The front desk staff came in to check it out and said that she would report it to the owner. I didn’t exactly feel safe there, so would not stay there again especially if I was travelling by myself. Trust the reviews when booking, do not feel like people are exaggerating or high maintenance.
- Jordy (1/5): it was very poor and i am disappointed with how dirty the room was - nothing everything there was blood on door frame holes in window got lots of itchy bites from the bed don’t recommend
- Chador (4/5): Disappointing - Linen needs to be improved Poor quality facilities such as linen
- Ling (3/5): Wants run away asap - Need update facilities All the things are too old to be used
- Tracy (5/5): Passable -
- Halkett (4/5): Disappointing -
- Aaron (5/5): Family stay - The hotel called me straight away because we left something behind. I really appreciate that! Pillows were uncomfortable, lighting was a bit poor. The room with the double bed had a window going into the lounge with no curtain.
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional - Last minute booking and great staff
- Alexis (7/5): Good -
- Jenna (2/5): Terrible completely regret booking here - We were called about an item left behind The place was a bomb site major renovations at the front of the building stuff laying everywhere. Beds were horrible uncomfortable mismatched pillow cases and bedding. Door handles held on by 1 screw floor creaked upstairs any time someone moved all the plates were mismatched not even a set the oven had the nobs missing so couldn’t cook. Tv had bunny ears haven’t been used in years. Furniture was well used and not what what expected in a motel
- Tovio (1/5): Bad - Nothing, should not be a motel. We did not stay there as the rooms were absolutely disgusting, dirty, smells, should not pass a Health inspection. This motel is not fit for anyone to live in let alone paying customers. I will be reporting this motel to the authorities to carry out a Health inspection as the rooms are disgusting. I will be asking for a full refund as this motel is using false photos for their advertising and booking.com should take full responsibility for their motel advertising, they should be inspecting these places to ensure they are what they are advertising.
- Nigeal (8/5): Very good -
- Bruce (3/5): Unfortunately i could not recommend this accommodation as it is at present. - Location suited us. 1st impressions count and they were not good. I realise the place is being done up but there was rubbish all around and no actual signage that said it was the Ferry Motel. The furniture in the room was very dated and chipped and the shower head would not stay in the clamp. Towels were very thin and the pillows if you could call them that were terrible.
- Rose (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patrick (6/5): Pleasant - Ir was very old 40s kitchen etc
Paid way too much
- Todd (7/5): Good -
- Shinoj (7/5): Good -
- Luana (10/5): - Big and confortable room
Old furniture but still in good condition
Enough kitchenware
Convinient for public transport
- Sharon (1/5): Bad - Do not stay here, run for the hills
Dirty & very rundown is the only way to describe it.
- Chris (6/5): All a bit rough , rundown. - n/a Room lighting very poor, couldn't read a book in bed, no bed lamp, no water pressure in shower, shower fitting hopeless,
broken window latch, couldn't close window, broken range elements, (collapsed) unusable.
empty soap dispenser . All a bit rough, very rundown from a previous visit many years ago I have to advise.
- Millaray (1/5): I had to sleep there alone because I had already paid. Disgusting - The receptionist is very friendly The bed was disgusting. We had to go to Kmart that night to buy new pillows. We could feel all the springs in the mattress, we turned it over to see if we had better luck, but it was just as uncomfortable. The kitchen wall very dirty, the shower curtain is disgusting.
I understand that the accommodation is cheaper than others, however that is no reason to offer something so dirty and in poor condition. One thing is to have small and perhaps old accommodation, and another is to offer disgusting accommodation.
- Didi (1/5): Bad -
- Irene (6/5): Just good for one night sleep and cheaper accommodation! - Easily accessible and cheaper than others There’s some ants crawling the table and eating our food when we wake up in the morning, so maybe they need to spray some insect repellents.
- Parsons (1/5): awful - nothing The place is run down, the garden is awful, and the lawn is not mowed. The shower is mouldy; the stove is dirty; when I asked for an iron, yes, they gave it to me, but it was not working. I only stayed for 2 days instead of the 3 I paid for as the room smelled hot. I asked for electric fan but I was told they don't supply it.
- Shinaye (6/5): Pleasant - Flexible. Items were old and so we moved things around to suit our group and make full use of all facilities Dated. Our room wasn't serviced or tidied, we had to ask for a lot.
- Armin (3/5): Wife was dissapointed - Our unit was by a loud road, our unit needs real investment, style is from 60's and not in good shape.
Room size was great. Size of room
- Mcmillan (3/5): Poor -
- Bryan (4/5): Comfy, clean but nothing like the photos - The photographs don’t look anything like the reality. It was clean but overall it was very tatty Tatty furnishings, poor workmanship, handles missing of doors, oven etc
- James (3/5): Poor - Area not far to travel to town No shampoo. Needs alot of work maintenance to update it.
- Valace (9/5): Great location, very roomy - Great location, amazing space ! Such big lounge kitchen and plenty of rooms, the staff are extremely helpful and great customer service, the place is a little run down but you can see the staff working hard to improve and for what you pay it's a great place.
- Elslit (3/5): Poor - Staff and location was good. Overall not comfortable. Stained mattresses and pillows. Couldn't sleep at all
Floor was dirty.
Window catches missing
Totally gross. It was OK that it was worn as it was cheap, but it was so dirty and uncomfortable.
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional - The staff and the place was good worth the money we ended up staying for longer at the motel, the owner of the motel was kind always asking us if we needed anything before he left to go home,he was friendly..we enjoy our stay at ferry motel my kids were happy close to the beaches shops restaurant.. 💯 good place
- Ayla (8/5): Very good - Perfect for a cheap night stay. Nothing special but great value for the price and staff were lovely and really welcoming. It had an oven in the kitchen which is a bonus for cooking!
- Ryan (3/5): Very deceptive to what the photos show. Wouldn't have stayed if we could get money back on the spot. - They had a heater and the staff were friendly enough. The apartments were really run down. Holes in the wall, felt unsafe, beds were very uncomfortable, water pressure was terrible, street appeal was very off putting, gang signs put on furniture, the repair jobs on the doors and walls were not done well.
- Ziwen (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice motel, happy to recommend it.
- Inderjit (8/5): Very good - really good host
- Yuval (6/5): Pleasant - Price and location Wasn't at an adequate level of cleanliness with sub-par maintenance level.
- Katie (5/5): Room was clean - Cheap rates and close to the beach Room was clean and tidy but full of miss matched furniture in the lounge area - bed was placed below the tv and had an old lazy boy chair as well as a chaise longue. Just felt a little cluttered.
Front of the hotel needs to tlc as both room doors on the roadside have been boarded up and we also had Neighbours with visitors standing outside our room for half the night smoking and talking. Wouldn’t normally complain about this stuff other than it was single glazing and all we could smell was their smoke.
- Gray (6/5): Budget motel .Cheap and cheerful - Within walking distance of city (40 mins).
Cheap.
The manager/housekeeper couldn't do enough for us and the handyman was very efficient This motel has great potential but at the moment it is a work in progress. It has previously been used as emergency accommodation, but the owner is working hard to upgrade the property, but it's not quite there yet
This was reflected in the price we paid.
There was an intermittent fault with a power socket. We were immediately offered a different unit which had been freshly painted.
Room lights were poor
- Shah (1/5): not up to the level where you can stay for a night - not up to the standard It was not up-to-date
- Celia (7/5): Good - The rooms were generously sized. The coffee, tea and sugar sachets were much appreciated in the rooms. The rooms both had stove tops and ovens to use for cooking. We chose to check out earlier than 9am as we had travel to do all day and the hosts were happy for us to do this. The overall cleanliness of the rooms was fine but the shower could've been cleaned better Some of the other rooms were being renovated so the premises was a little bit of a mess which was slightly off putting. Not sure if it's like that all the time or if was because of the renovations. There was also gang related signs on some of the furniture which was outside of the rooms on the property. Some of the elements on the stove top were a bit broken but this didn't really impact our stay.
- Mats (9/5): Superb - We liked that we had our own apartment for little amount of money, not far from Christchurch center.
Our expectations were exceeded and we would recommend this accommodation to young people that are looking for a cheap place for the night in Christchurch.
- Alissa (6/5): Pleasant -
- Soni (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rodney (3/5): It is in need of refurbishing - NA Cleanliness. Very smelly empty refrigerator.
- Sam (1/5): shit - nothing modernised fresh up
- Antony (1/5): Worst place I have ever booked. Didn’t end up staying - Overall appearance was poor. Very poor.
Didn’t end up staying the night as was that bad
- Soteria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Clare (3/5): Would never do it again you either have guests or people in benefits not both it doesn’t work especially at this place - Nothing The whole place is run down and tatty fighting at 1.30 in the morning . Where the pictures were taken I don’t know when photos taken but it definitely doesn’t look like that .
- John (1/5): We wan our money refunded as the accommodation should be condemned - We did not stay it was disgusting it looked nothing like the description it should be condemned Nothing it was unhealthy and should not be on your books
- Alma (5/5): Dissappointed - Friendly staff The whole place was RUN DOWN
definitely not up to the photos
- Sarah (5/5): Passable - it’s in a good location and was cheap we had really noisy people staying next to us , I think they lived there . with kids this wasn’t ideal .
- Sarah (1/5): Bad -
- Selina (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely staff very accomodating loved our stay and our we dog was super happy.
- Vicky (1/5): Bad - Manageress was helpful and friendly.
Take aways etc close. Dirty!!!
Walking in barefeet my feet got dirty.
Shub felt like it was going to fall through the floor.
Kitchen taps labeled opposite ti what they were.
Holes in walls.
Stained mattresses and pillows.
Floor was 'wavey'
Ripped net curtains
Window catches missing
Smelt smokey (cigarettes)
Totally gross. It was OK that it was worn as it was cheap, but it was so dirty. Took photos but broke phone
- Sharif (1/5): Pathetic and horrible - There was absolutely nothing that i liked about this property I had an awful experience at this property. Nobody was there at the reception. I had to ring the bell several times and at time of the check iut nobody came despite tinging the outside the office. I waited for 15 minutes, eventually i left the key at the doorstep. Property was mouldy and smelly and walls and doors had dents in them. There was no hot water and Christchurch was very cold that day. I had to stay without a shower. How can booking com promote or advertise such a cheap and horrible property on its site and then use words lije "its such a rare find" to tempt customers into thinking that its such a good one
- Hine (5/5): Passable -
- Tikal (7/5): I liked it but needs more renovations and restorations. 😊 - Was good for what u paid for The rickety upstairs room
- Mike (3/5): Poor -
- Allan (4/5): Disappointing -
- Axel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (9/5): Superb -
- Bruce (8/5): Ferry Motel - Great location close to the city. Parking outside the motel door was great.
The unit we had was ideal for a family group and the electric blanket on the bed was a nice touch.
- Fiona (4/5): - Funds were takrn from credit card 2 days before arrival instead of pay at checkout as advised.
- Richard Edison (8/5): Ferry motel review - Pretty standard motel facilities. Good for families as the rooms accommodate more pax. Price was ok but does not come with a.c./ heat pump or fan.No proper closet or place to hang clothes. No tissue box supplied.
Ordered room on hotels.com , payment indicated to be cash on arrival but the hotel took the liberty to deduct my credit card even before I arrived.
However the counter lady was most helpful and accommodating.
- D (2/5): - Didnt even check in. Outside of the property is run down and people hanging out in front were less than savoury. In the 5 mins we were parked out front we had someone bang on our window to know if we were parking our vehicle there. Felt unsafe and did not want to bring my chilredn into a property where i didnt feel safe. Ended up finding somewhere else.
- Guest (8/5): - Good internet.acess and tidy rooms, overall very satisfied.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Handy location for me - Motel is in need of some attention. Its clean. Warm nice staff. I onlly stay because of the handy location for me.
- Marie (6/5): Chosen on price - Bed and linen very clean and tidy. Décor a bit shabby but functional. Unit clean.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Dated - Old and dated - not a place I would ever return to
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not very well secured. - I had an intruder knocking on my door around 2.30 am. there were some young guys in the unit next door drinking, smoking and making noise in the evening which was really nuisance.
