Guest Reviews
- Cristina (8/5): Very good - Big kitchen and common areas. I really appreciated the free parking spot There are not enough electrical outlets in the rooms
- Jessie (10/5): Exceptional - They upgraded my booking I booked a bunk they put me in a room for myself good service
- Jarrahtree (5/5): Cheap digs - Its cheap It smells musty. Really chronically
- Anonymous (9/5): Good, affordable place to stay. - The room was clean, good facilities, kitchen-guest should have kept it clean.
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Jarrahtree (10/5): LBP = awesome - Love LBP!!!! The room was smelly until I worked out how to open the window!!!
- John (7/5): As usual , good.esp the manager - The manager who remembers me
The people, young, that forgave an old fart like me staying and my roommate who put up with my 3.30 am rising
- Anonymous (5/5): Average - Close pro imity to tow Sharing room with people, and lack of hygiene (smells from hikers, workers)
- Tracey (1/5): Avoid - Nothing I must have not read the room would be avail at 3pm unlike most at 2pm.
I had to ask if the bottom sheets were clean as one had many holes in it they were so threadbare.
Heaters came on at 7pm so rooms were cold prior.
My son had the top bunk so was so hot due to the heater on the ceiling and no thermostat.
No fire alarm in the room.
I was woken about 1130 when someone was knocking and trying to get into my room. Same about 2am. They couldn't get in but I felt unsafe if I needed to get up to use toilet in the middle of the night.
One female toilet was blocked. I told reception in the afternoon and had to retell the cleaner the next morning. I saw him throw the toilet plunger on the ground in the hall, still with toilet paper clinging to it. Disgusting and unhygienic.
Horrible. Uncomfortable beds. Bottom sheets threadbare. Pillows were pretty much non existent.
Cold throughout. No heating in eating area or lounge. Painting peeling. Overpriced for what you get.
Avoid.
- John (6/5): Good that you accept older clients - Ok. Can’t remember Not much. Have stayed many times. Memory now poor
- Suzanne (7/5): Enjoyable as usual with good company. - A great guest kitchen which was kept really clean. Love the walk to the city through the leafy square. Love the old building. It has a friendly vibe. It has a secure carpark and laundry facilities. A bit cold in the morning so some heating would be nice,
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant - Dirty carpets needed vacuum many. items on g
Items on floor
- Anonymous (1/5): Bad - Hate crimed by staff
- Jaime (6/5): Pleasant - The guy who was cleaning in the morning was rude. Also, it was difficult to find the staff in the reception sometimes
- Majuri (9/5): Superb -
- Taher (7/5): Affordable - Good location, cheap Barely any charger plugs in the room, toilets are a bit of a distance away- perhaps hv 1 male toilet on the second floor as well
- Walters (5/5): Passable -
- Lucile (5/5): Passable - Strange atmosphere. No welcoming I stayed 10 -15 minutes in front of the door. Very cold in there, no cosy and comfy places to sit and feel good. No deco
- Dela (9/5): Superb -
- Raquel (2/5): Good location, but not great accommodations. - Good location One toilet broken, so only 1 toilet for 10 rooms (approx 20 people). Quiet hours not observed. Rubbish under beds.
- Tom (8/5): Very good -
- Laura (2/5): - This was the worst hostel I ever stayed at. It looked like a prison, the sheets were dirty, the blanket wasn’t even a real blanket but some foam thing, it smelled bad in the room and there was a smell of weed in the common areas. The bed was uncomfortable, the top bunkbeds had no railing around them. It creeped me out and I did not feel safe there.
The check-in was easy, I did not see a staff member though and the reception was not occupied even though I got there at 5 pm.
The location is good. It’s directly in the city centre and you can walk to all the shops.
- Alison (7/5): Good - Nice staff, comfy sofas. The kitchen was really messy ( but it's more for the people that are staying there), the place to smoke is next to the dinner room so sometimes the people leave the door open and it's a strong smell to the cigarettes.
- Sindy (5/5): It was good and bad - Staff really really nice.
Good location
Staff try to keep the hostel clean so hard (but people doesn t respect) The staff do an incredible job of cleaning, but unfortunately nobody respects their work and it gets messy very quickly.
No lockers or cupboards that lock.
People stole my food.
Window broken in the bathroom, so it's cold.
In the kitchen, there is no forks, no glasses.
- Janine (1/5): Bad -
- Nathan (1/5): Bad -
- Julie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Christian (9/5): Excellent value for money - Very good value for money, double room was nice, facilities were fine manager was hard to reach outside of office hours, even though there was a number posted on the wall
- Majuri (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dora (2/5): :( - Good price, and It has all the facilities you need. It's not a clean place, the room was not clean, neither toilets or showers, neither kitchen or dining area, etc it seems there is no one cleaning the common areas for days.
There was noise after midnight, people smoking inside, etc.
The Internet has an extra cost!?!!
- Adeline (5/5): Passable -
- Claire (6/5): Not bad for a backpackers - Pretty good location, quiet. Kitchen facilities seemed decent. Basic, but as you'd expect. Bit more cleaning would be nice, counted 4 or 5 spiders in the room and decent-sized cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling in my room that had obviously been there a while. The toilet leaked at the back when flushed.
- Adrien (6/5): Pleasant -
- Yukino (7/5): Good -
- Susanne (6/5): - Was okay, the building is a little run down and rustic and it felt cold, the kitchen was dirty. But the showers were hot, people were friendly, most of them working in construction/ factories/ farms. I felt overall safe and okay! :)
- Raza (2/5): Very poor -
- Hackneyed (5/5): As above. - Room was hot, no ventilation, no window insect screens, no table or chairs, no place for computer, no power point to Recharge phone, no bedside lamp. Not worth $80. I could have stayed at Best Western for an extra $40 and had a huge luxury air-conditioned room, with all the comforts including ensuite.
- Anna (5/5): Passable - Very old and in desperate need of renovation. The kitchen ceiling was leaking onto electrical equipment. The walls are paper thin.
- Cathy (4/5): - Check-in service was excellent with a very professional manager. He arranged for a very safe location for my bike, made sure I had everything I needed. The hostel is opposite a park and seemed perfectly safe at night, and a quick stroll to restaurants.
The stay itself was probably what you’d expect at a backpackers - pretty dire. Two hours of sleep between when the partying outside my room finished at 230 AM and the 430 AM commencement of people making breakfast in the kitchen next door. Showers are dilapidated and not the greatest cleanliness. All this said, if you want a place to meet people and party and a really cheap rate per night, this is the place for you. Noise and party levels will depend on guests and on how booked out the place is.
- Shaufi (7/5): Good -
- Katuschka (7/5): Good -
- Cate (3/5): Poor -
- Hannah (7/5): Good -
- Genevieve (4/5): Good location but does not provide a comfortable clean stay - Location good
Nice old building Blankets were dirty and had hair on them
Wifi password did not work
One of the toilets was permanently locked
Bathrooms not clean
Kitchen often left in a mess
- Paulina (5/5): Passable - Almost NO POWER SOCKETS in hostel and charging went so slowly; no fan and no aircon in the room, kitchen was very dirty, but they have their own parking and is very close to supermarket.
- Brittney (10/5): Exceptional -
- Haim (5/5): Passable -
- Erin (9/5): Superb - Large kitchen area and common areas, bedrooms decent sized. Lockers in the bedrooms would have been handy. The mixed bathrooms were a bit unusual however, I didn't mind it.
- Angela (3/5): Poor -
- Karynne (8/5): Convenient stay at Launceston Backpackers - Staff were friendly and helpful. The facilities and the location were good. Kitchen was crowded at night and people didn’t always clean up after themselves.
- William (5/5): It was Ok as we went out for dinner. - room was clean and tidy Beds were Ok . Manager of the hostel was helpful Kitchen was in a mess and eating area was also in need of a clean. This was due to working people staying in the hostel who didnt clean up
- Eranda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pierre (8/5): Very good -
- Margaret (8/5): Very good - Loved the energy about supporting young travelers The office was late opening. The towels ran out. The kitchen was a mess, probably because the guests were slack. A proper recycling system would be good, and more rubbish buns. In our bedroom the sliding door to the bathroom was jammed and we couldn't close it.
- 炤伶 (4/5): Disappointing -
- Kaidan (10/5): - Nice place
- Shaufi (7/5): Good -
- Nicolas (4/5): Disappointing - No proper common room beside the kitchen/dinner room.
- Holly (5/5): Passable -
- Michaela (8/5): Very good - Good clean backpackers, shame some people sharing a room don't respect others or their space.
- Holly (7/5): Good -
- Daniela (9/5): Superb -
- Melinda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Valeria (9/5): Superb -
- Wen-chien (7/5): Good -
- Gianmarco (7/5): Good - Cheap, comfortable enough Wifi was so slow it was unusable
- Jasmine (7/5): Clean and secure simple accommodation with easy access to the CBD. - Good location, close to the CBD, without being noisy.
- Giang (6/5): Pleasant - The location was great. The staff was very friendly. There is parking space so that's a plus point. It has a kitchen & washing machine if you need. The private bathroom was decently clean. There's no amenities but this is not a minus point because it's a place for backpackers & the price is very very cheap, so that's to be expected, I don't mind it. What I didn't expect though is that while there's no aircon in the room (& that's ok with me) there's also no fan or any seeable portable heater either. We stayed here in summer & the room on the 2nd floor was so hot & stuffy because of this. Like we only needed a small fan in the room & we would be happy but there wasn't. Also the free wifi is almost unusable, it's not slow, it's unusable. I'm fine with it being slow & there's the option to buy faster wifi with some extra charge, but I repeat the free wifi is not slow but ALMOST UNUSABLE.
- Jenny (8/5): Very good - It got good vibe. It feels clean. Spacious common area, quite restful bedroom. Nice park outside. Little bit busy in kitchen, spaces in kitchen became very cluttered.
- Kamleshni (6/5): Pleasant -
- Gianmarco (8/5): Very good -
- Omer (8/5): Very good -
- Deepak (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jane (8/5): Very good - Location wise No air-conditioning
- Maureen101 (7/5): Nothing to complain - Great location. Place is nice and clean. Have all the amenities you’ll need in common areas. No noise or disturbances so we had a good sleep.
- Xiao (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ana (6/5): Pleasant - Location. The bathroom wasn't really clean.
- Sophie (3/5): Would not recommend - Wasn't able to park as car park already full.
Room smelt very musty.
No duvet just old ripped blanket.
- Lotte (6/5): Cheapest in town but basic - The price and location There has been no updates in the last ten years. Needs to be updated and it could be cleaner - doesn’t feel cosy at all. Bunk beds in my room quite noisy and worn out mattress. Complimentary wifi could be better but I think you could buy some there.
- Tran (8/5): Very good -
- Barbara (5/5): I'm glad it was just one night - Very dirty common areas, dirty bathroom and no toilet paper!
- Jang (8/5): Good hostel in grand old building - Large common room, comfy lounges, large kitchen, different nationalities, easy access, close to supermarket, leafy park opposite, grand building. No Distance from cbd, smallish dorm rooms, messy hostellers
- Danielle (6/5): Pleasant - The accommodation is affordable and beds pretty comfortable. The rooms are a good size. Street parking is available if you are careful to take note of the parking restrictions that apply. The kitchen wasn't particularly clean but detergent is provided so anything can be washed before use. There is no secure place to store belongings during your stay (ie lockers).
- Daniil (8/5): Very good - Everything was quite OK. However, I was disappointed when a bag with my clothes was allegedly stolen and the hotel personal showed absolutely no concern about my problem, like it is something normal for them. Only one reception manager said where it could be if still not stolen.
- Laura (8/5): Lovely spacious old mansion! - Loved how spacious the hostel was! Tons of space for chilling out. It’s a big old mansion, so that was nice. Would have liked it the staff had gotten back to me earlier regarding my message where they’d leave the key. Once I arrived late by ferry I still didn’t know where the key was even though I had messaged twice on the day and also a week earlier.
- Muhammet (8/5): Very good -
- Lola (8/5): Very good -
- Javiera (8/5): Good hostel - Nice and big hostel, good shared areas

Big communal room to chill/work/chat.
Good outdoor area.
Good shower & toilets. A bit of walk to the bus station.
- Jamie (8/5): Good for short-term & long-term stay. - Kitchen, room, common area, staff. Location.
- Tasmin (8/5): Very good - Good value for money
Great location
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Michiko (1/5): Bad - close to airport, good chinese restaurant near by. they provided steel framed bank bed which doesn't show on the property photos. room 18A doesn't show on the photos.
made noise for every movement all night and didn't slept at all, complained next day, there n o spear rooms till day after.
cancelled 4th night and tried get refund but both party between booking.com and this property no communication at all
says different things each others like marry go round, called booking.com. sydney many times.
one night refund and some compansation cost were credited in the end. female bathroom was soil and dirty.
- Anna (7/5): just what we needed - Friendly staff, had everything we needed, clean, basic - free parking - lots of space in the room
- Bibiloni (6/5): Pleasant -
- Clement (1/5): Bad -
- Ariana (8/5): Very good - Classic hostel with a good vibe and great kitchen facilities. Nice flexible staff meant when we turned up a bit early we were allowed to check in as the room was ready no stress. We were also upgraded to a room with an ensuite, definitely more value for your money compared to two other places we stayed in Launceston! Could have used a little table in our room and a lamp.
