- Amy (10/5): - The view and location were amazing
- Phil (9/5): -
- Petra (9/5): Superb -
- Yvonne (8/5): Excellent, peaceful and beautifully located apartment - Superb location right on the water and very, very peaceful which is what we wanted. Beautiful views - we could have sat all day just watching the colours change across the water.
- Lesley (10/5): Spacious and well appointed apartment. - Fabulous views. Had everything we needed. A very pleasant stay. Nothing
- Catherine (10/5): Our stay with Mary in Akaroa was wonderful and a great way to spend my 30th! - Honestly this was one of the best stays we’ve ever had! We came here for my 30th birthday and the views were out of this world. The accommodation itself was very comfortable and we loved Mary, our host, who was very kind! I used to come to Akaroa as a kid and it was so nice to return after so long and stay in an extremely comfortable place. This is a must stay as it is slightly out of the centre so that it is quiet, but close enough that you can walk in easily! We just want to say a huge thank you to Mary for letting us stay and use all of the facilities 😍 There was nothing we didn’t like, be prepared for sunrise due to no curtains/blinds but that is what we liked most about the property
- Dawne (8/5): Very good - Had everything you need for a stay in Akaroa.A lovely stroll into town, views are amazing,a lovely 3day stay here ,very relaxing:)
- Adrienne (10/5): Very quiet location with lovely views. Ideal for a peaceful break away. -
- Gaye (6/5): Enjoyed with the stated improvements needed. - I thought the TV could have been a lot larger and Netflix and Sky Sport should have been included. Given that we have been to 47 Countries and stayed at many many places I thought that the location was probably the most alluring attribute.
- Syme (6/5): Comfortable, clean, nice decor - Location rreally ice but being the basement it had hardly any sunlight except late afternoon in bedroom Nice unit l but would have been even better with more natural light as the deck above had lounge in shade
Could not use WiFi as the email we had from Booking.com did not work. PLEASE CHECK THAT
expected for the price we would have had clean towels and unit serviced
not good light for reading in bed
- Nicole (8/5): Very good - Location was superb and the apartment looked exactly like the pictures and sparkling clean. Booking.com did not send the lock box code for the keys but we easily called the host and had it sorted in minutes. We had terrible weather while we were there unfortunately but the apartment was super cozy with plenty of space and a nice little haven from the rain. Walkable to town for a few groceries to pick up for dinner and had everything we needed in the kitchen. The sofa bed mattress isnt the most comfortable but honestly not a big deal and what I'd expect from a sofa bed anyway - still had a great nights sleep. Would stay there again.
- Diana (8/5): Beautiful views - Beautiful spot with a lovely outlook. The apartment was clean, spacious, and well equipped. The owner was responsive and helpful. Was a little dated in places.
- Lesley (10/5): Exceptional - It hadxeverything we needed and was very clean We'd stay there again
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great wee spot, basic but all we needed for a comfortable stay. Clean, tidy, good location, beautiful view!
- Sue (10/5): Exceptional -
- Delyth (8/5): Very good - Homely accommodation. Amazing views.
- Suzanne (10/5): We will be back! - Great space for weekend getaway, loved the holiday vibe, view, attention to detail.
- Faryal (10/5): Worth it - The penthouse was cosy and spacious has everything we needed. The view was great, you just need to cross the road and you at the beach.
- Kerry (10/5): - This property was a perfect getaway. The views from within and on the balcony were just beautiful. We had glorious weather so that made it even better. The area was walkable to a number of local walks and it was 1km from the village. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if I returned I would try and stay here again. Thank you for such a lovely break
- John (7/5): Good - Nice view across the harbour
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- 9liner (9/5): Great location, comfortable stay. - The property consists of 2 apartments. We had the Penthouse on top of the building. It had amazing views over Akaroa Harbour. The property is an easy 20min walk along the waterfront to the centre of Akaroa where there are many dining venues. "The Common" was frequented by us a lot during our stay! The check-in process had a hiccup. To gain entry to the lockbox containing the keys we needed a code that should have been sent through the Booking.com system from the owners. For some reason it didn't arrive so we texted the owner. We didn't hear back but on calling again later we learned she had resent an email with the code - again via the Booking.com message system. This had also failed to arrive. But on the phone we got the code and all was well. This would seem to be a hiccup either with the owner and/or the messaging system. We received all other property related messaging via Booking.com after this. Not a big issue but a bit frustrating when you are waiting outside to gain entry. I think this was a one off failure and shouldn't detract anyone from staying here.
- Murray (10/5): Great Stay - Short walk out of town, Great views
- David (8/5): Very good - View of the water through the glass doors getting into parking slot. Do-able, and a rear view camera helped
- Jon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (10/5): - One of my favourite places that I’ve stayed - floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lake with huge sliding doors . Beautiful tree outside that makes you feel like you’re almost in a tree house with all mod cons . Comfortable and spacious with everything you need . Had beautiful views of the night sky on our first night . Just beautiful
- Will (9/5): Quiet & Peaceful - Quiet location within walking distance to the Wharf.
Facilities were excellent Photo's listed are of both apartments and it is not clear which are for the Penthouse Studio or the 1 Bed Beachside apartment.
The ocean view photo listed is for the Penthouse, not the 1 Bed - photo's should be categorised per apartment.
Outdoor chairs are collapsing and should be replaced.
- Murray (8/5): Very good -
- John (9/5): Loved the area/the position and view was beautiful. Thank you - Position/info/facilities
- Clint (10/5): Good place to stay - Big space. Separate bedroom. Full kitchen facilities. Comfortable
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Douglas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Juanita (8/5): Very good - Location is great. Stunning view. Couches are a bit uncomfortable.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Siobhan (10/5): A lovely place to getaway from it all, with breathtaking views. This is a favourite place to stay. - The view is amazing, and it’s a lovely walk into town.
The road below the property is vey quiet, so mostly all you hear is birdsong.
The kitchen is well stocked, so you can cook if you want, but loads of options if you don’t.
Lovely shower too. The bed is a bit soft and bouncy, and the sky tv is very basic.
- Sheryl (10/5): Comfortable, tranquil and beautiful -
- Anna (9/5): Kings birthday weekend break - Very quiet and peaceful spot. Uninterrupted view of the water. We enjoyed sitting outside on the outdoor furniture watching the boats go by and the bird life. Plenty of space in apartment. Nice short walk into the village for meals movies ect. Easy to use heating as it was a cold weekend. A larger T.V. would of been great.
- Yick (1/5): We traveled a long distance to visit Akaroa and the stay has dampened our entire holiday mood’s. Really shit! - 1. Upon arrival, we have to hand carry our luggages and climbed 27steps before reaching our room. when we sounded our disappointment to the caretaker who was a lady, she simply replied: All because you have chosen the penthouse studio unit!
2. The property is quite a distance away from the town Center. 30 minutes by walking.
3. The property did not have some very basic things such as bathing liquid, tissue paper. Also, the room is not even air-conditioned.
4. Most of the electrical appliances are of certain age. Some of them could not even function properly.
5. The funniest thing is, the bed room doesn’t even have curtains or blinds. One can see from outside through all the bay windows. The room is therefore totally ‘Transparent’!
6. The caretaker was not friendly at all. We stayed at the property for two nights. The was no ‘hello’ or ‘good morning’ or smile or other form of greetings whatsoever. We don’t think she understands what is ‘service’ and ‘hospitality’.
7. We paid NZD 470 for staying at the property for 2 nights with all the above ‘benefits’.
8. We will not forgive ourselves for booking and staying at such a place and being treated like dirt!
9. We will be extremely careful in future when screening and selecting properties listed by booking.com.
- Mandy (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing view, clean and spacious apartment. Lots of heaters kept us snuggly and warm on a cold evening. nothing
- Keith (10/5): Great place - Akaroa is an amazing town with unique French influence
As a traveller miss this town at your peril .
The appartment was fantastic and highly recommended.
Harbour view . Fully equipped . Great bed .great shower . Parking . Walking distance to town . Lots to do .
Thanks Mary
- Deborah (9/5): Just lovely - The view, comfort and proximity to the town centre. it was also very spacious. Nothing
- Sharon (9/5): Great spot, definitely coming back! - Location was great, bed was super comfy, view was breathtaking, apartment had everything you need. Nothing
- Peter (10/5): Loved our stay. Akaroa is paradise on a stick! Loved it , the people and the history. What a magnificently relaxing dest - Great location- very quiet - very comfortable! Nothing
- Logan (5/5): won’t stay there again - water pressure in shower was amazing stairs, bed to small, escape plan horrible, (how it got a building permit I’ll never know). hopeless parking, no office, no curtains on big windows
- Sue (10/5): - The penthouse studio had fabulous views and great amenities in the property. Close to the village centre.
- Sheila (8/5): Very good -
- Heidi (10/5): Excellent holiday flat, right on the beach. - The location. Very quiet.
- Janine (8/5): Very good -
- Jbw (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (7/5): G8 place to stay if you are up at 5 am - location / clean
Specular views / warm
I was staying in the Penthouse room. The bed was not very comfortable ???? old No curtains or main blinds which meant it was light by 5.30am. i think this should be mentioned on the website for those of us that need the dark and want to wake a little later while on holiday.
- Ian (8/5): Great views and pleasant stay - Great views and great location. Spent 2 nights here and loved it. Well appointed for our stay. Would probably stay again. There are no curtains so the sun streams in from early on. Bit annoying if you're sensitive to light when you sleep. The second bed isn't really a bed - no bed sheet, just duvet on matress.
- Jane (9/5): Akaroa on the Beach review - Beautiful location, great facilities, some lovely walks straight out of the door and still close to restaurants and cafes in Akaroa. The downstairs apartment is a lot darker than the penthouse apartment. Definitely recommend booking the latter if you have a choice, but using the two for an extended family trip worked well.
- Krystal (10/5): Exceptional - We were located in a fantastic area with amazing views. I had to sleep on
the fold out bed as my friend slept in the bedroom and it wasnt overly comfortable with minimal sleep
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Lolohea (10/5): Relaxing location right next to the beach - Amazing location. very homely! great communication. loved the place!
- Lesley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ramesh (8/5): - Very quite place. Sometimes seems a bit eerie
- Valerie (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic apartment for a couple, very comfortable and peaceful with a great view of the water. Host was very helpful. Without a car it was a 15 - 20 minute walk to eateries - luckily we love walking.
- Gavin (8/5): Very good -
- Steve (10/5): had a great weekend away in Akaroa. Very nice and comfortable place to stay, Very relaxing - The Location is perfect, Located on a very quite part of the road. nice easy walk back to the restaurants and shops
would defiantly stay there again Very happy with everything about the place
- Suzanne (5/5): Lovely location and gorgeous views of the sea just across the road - The view lived up to expectation. beautiful in the summer with the big trees I am an Asthmatic and unfortunately I did not check the flooring which had carpets through most of the Apartment. it was too cold in Akaroa to open the Unit up so the next day my Asthma was really bad, sadly we had to leave. The Owner offered us another stay which was very kind.
- Kerry (8/5): A comfortable spacious stay with wonderful views. - It was clean and tidy, we noticed there was no heat pump and thought it would be cold, as no drapes on front windows.
We were pleasantly surprised the 2 x heaters kept the place very warm and toasty.
The views were great and the beds were comfortable. The toilet did not flush always which was a nuisance.
The stairs were steep and quite dark in the lower stairwell.
Parking spaces, with shared driveways, were confusing when arriving in the dark.
- Jamie (9/5): Superb -
- Debbie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great relaxing view
Loved the daycore
Waking up in the morning and lokking out over the harbour
- T T (10/5): Wonderful Stay - Wonderful stay. Amazing views with bbq on the balcony. We were able to relax so much here. Would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): An OK Apartment - The stay is ok.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A residential home that has been split into two apartments to stay in; we stayed on the bottom level. The owner was really helpful about getting us set up and helping us to check in early, I loved the surrounding area. Lots of nice homely touches like multiple heaters around the home, electric blankets on the bed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location
Outlook
Space
Uniqueness
No fuss discreet checkin
Heaps of space
Huge deck and barbecue for summer
Outlook beyond compare in a wonderfully unique town
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed in the seaview room. Nice place opposite the water. The apartment is spacious for 2. The queen bed was comfortable but would have preferred a king. All amenities, utensils, cutlery, crockery for cooking were included. There were also some board games, dvds and hifi which made good use when it was raining. There was no cable tv only regular tv channels. Information about the place and things to do was also in the compendium. Mary the host was friendly and made us feel welcome. I would definitely stay a few nights again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely location. Spacious with good facilities and well equipped. A very pleasant walk into town.
- ConRaf (8/5): Well situated, cozy apartment - Clean, warm, well presented and appointed, well positioned!
- Daz (8/5): - Nice relaxing spot but not really a beach in front
- Brent&Mary (8/5): A Mid Winter get away - The place smelt like asian cooking.
Fridge had water inside (as it had been turn off before our stay)
The dishes and glasses ware were not properly clean and we had to wash everything before we used it.
- Ariana (10/5): The place to stay in Akaroa - This is a great location away from the noise of the village but easy walking distance and so close to the sea. Great bedding and excellent facilities
- Michael (6/5): Disappointing - We were looking forward to our stay but found ourselves a little disappointed. We could forgive the godawful colour scheme and dated decor, but we found the cane lounge chairs to be incredibly uncomfortable and ended up sitting on the floor! There were no curtains or blinds in the lounge/dining, so no privacy. There was no soap for the shower, or shampoo, nowhere to hang your handtowel, the milk provided was out of date and off, and we had to ration the toilet paper because there were no spare rolls. There were many signs around the house warning us "not to touch this and that" which didnt make us feel welcome.
- A & C (8/5): A lovely quiet stay with a great view - 2 relaxing nights in the property. Weather was average outside but the property was cosy and warm and could still look at a beautiful view out of the large windows. Bed was slightly hard but that's probably comparing to our own. Still a pleasant sleep. The kitchen is well stocked with items - very impressed. Bathroom was tidy and clean and had a great shower. only complaint would be a slightly off smell when we first arrived, maybe a bit of spilt milk or something in kitchen? All good after opening the windows. A great stay and have recommended to family and friends.
- John & Bev (10/5): Excellent location and convenient to all attractio - Just a top spot. Aparment clean and well presented
- Jaine L. (10/5): Amazing! - Akaroa on the Beach is an amazing place to stay. The view is great and the sound of birds singing incredible. A must place to stay when in Akaroa!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful location and view. Nice layout in Beachside unit. Not immaculate- crumbs on dining table, pans greasy. Laundry "out of order" $16 per load to drop it off at in town laundry. Welcome drink advertised, not provided. Little things- no sponge to wash dishes, no daily change of towels, no liners in trash- had to use grocery bags and outside bin completely full. But for these small details, it would have been the perfection stated in other reviews.
- Judy (8/5): A Place away from it All! - Two Night Stay at Akaroa before going back to Oz. This was a three storey house, we were on the bottom floor. Views of the Harbour. 10 min walk to town. The bed was too small for both of us, I slept on the Sofa Bed in the lounge. A lovely spot to stay in. French influence. Plenty of Cafe's, Very busy when the Cruise Ships are in the Harbour, otherwise very quiet. Beautiful scenery. Lots of History here.
- pete (10/5): Very well appointed apartment. - Once we got in, and I believe it was Wotif's fault we had a problem there, all was superb. The place had all the mod ons we needed. They all functioned well and the place was clean.
After we left we realised we had left our anoraks in the cupboard. At the time we were driving north from Christchurch. Contact with the owner resulted in her kindly sending them on ( we paid for the postage of course) and the day was saved.
All in all a very satisfactory stay.
Note it is an apartment. The question above concerning staff has only been filled in as this review would be rejected if I did not put something!!! The only'staff' was the cleaner who did her job as required. No comment.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice place to stay - Unfortunately this place didn't have an office and we never received an email explaining how to enter our room.
There was no milk and no soap.
This was a nice quiet place to stay but overall we were a little disappointed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing location - We were on the ground floor and the guests up stairs did not worry us. We sat our fro t overlooking the water enjoying the ambience. The apartment was very relaxating after our flight . Easy drive from Christchurch. We couldn't get the TV to work but didn't worry calling the help line as we did not need it. Such a pity the lovely old Radiogram doesn't work. We would have loved to play one of the old LP's Thanks for having us. We intend returning. Rob & Rob
- Geoffrey (8/5): Overall, very happy - Very quiet and comfortable.Would go back again. The only 'hick-up' was on arrival we were supposed to have a code to open the lock box for the apartment key, but our printed booking sheet from Hotels.com did not supply a code.
- Shirley (10/5): - Facilities: Modern; Value: Moderate; Cleanliness: Beautiful;
Black Cat cruise well worth doing
- Samantha (8/5): - Facilities: Good, Modern; Value: Acceptable price; Cleanliness: Immaculate;
- Jordan (10/5): - Facilities: Home away from home; Value: A steal; Service: Flawless; Cleanliness: Spotless;
We had a perfect weekend
