- Jael (8/5): Beautiful place, come stocked up - The place is gorgeous, spacious room, and great breakfast. Would definitely recommend to anyone who has a 4x4 and a few days of just enjoying a secluded place in nature We arrived late as we finished a track, and not knowing the location, we didn't know that the closest restaurant was about 15 mins drive away, and that's after backtracking through the harsh gravel road. We would've paid extra for some food, even something small, but "policy is policy". True, but a shame.
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (8/5): - Very comfortable remote stay. Poor internet affected the performance of room tv which often resulted in long buffering times. No access to epos payment onsite (a real pain).

Hosts are very hospitable and friendly and we felt like we are at home. Highly recommended in spite of somewhat challenging road conditions to and from the superb property. 20min detour along rough gravel road to reach the property - but it’s worth the effort 👍🏼🌝

Loved it totally recommend it. Great for Functions too. Perfect

- Jan (9/5): Delightful stay - Samara was just lovely. Breakfast was delicious and Samara made everything very easy.
Lovely communal spaces. We had difficulty finding the place as the Booking.com listing was incorrectly interpreted by google maps. It would be good if this were changed with rainforest removed as this is a different venue
- Jones (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diana (9/5): Superb - Where it was set - the seclusion
- Kathleen (10/5): Great stay - Super friendly hostess, Samara. Very comfortable room. Quiet, peaceful location set in beautiful grounds and native bush Nothing, everything as expected

- Isabella (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sara (10/5): - Peaceful and quiet. Lots of bird life. Friendly host.
- Patrick (9/5): Great place for a relaxing stay near Mt Egmont. - Amazingly quiet and peaceful. Beautiful setting. Reasonably close to main access to Egmont National Park. Can walk via a trail to nearby Pukeiti Gardens. Host was very pleasant and welcoming. The paved roads leading to the property are very narrow, just barely two lanes wide, so the drive can be a little challenging if you meet other vehicles. In addition, the 2km driveway is unpaved, and was manageable, but a bit rough in spots. We thought it was worth it for the quiet location, but just something to be aware of. In addition, this accommodation doesn’t have the ability to take credit cards, so best to pay in advance, if possible, if you don’t carry a lot of cash with you.
- Liz (8/5): Very good - Very peaceful surroundings, a real "retreat". The,approach road/track from the tar-sealed road to the gate of the property was horrendous and took its toll on my car. It is really only suitable for a 4-wheel drive and guests should be made aware of that fact.9
- Kaz (10/5): Exceptional - Very quiet location and the host was fantastic
- Susana (9/5): Very nice stay. - Nice and clean. A lot of space to sit around and chat with friends. Though it is located in the farm area, it’s actually not far from the city at all. The owner is also very helpful as well. Nothing particular.
- Wayne (8/5): - Beautful setting for a relaxing night!
- Jeff (10/5): - Stunning location near mountains and the beach in a rain forest. Loved it!
- Diana (10/5): A perfect place in a beautiful location. - We really loved the peaceful setting in the middle of the bush, a prefect place to relax. Also the breakfast was really nice. Thanks!!
- Susan (10/5): Bliss - Beautiful location in native bush, it was so quiet and restful enjoyed the small bush walks.
The proprietor was warm and friendly. Lovely continental breakfast and great French pressed coffee. We sharpened our pool playing skills.
Perfect place for R&R, a small family gathering (10 double rooms approx) a French chef is available to cater for larger groups by prior arrangement. We will definitely be back. Nothing!
- Catherine (10/5): - Such a lovely place to stay! Friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast was wonderful. The accommodation complex was clean, tidy, cosy and modern.
Loved the scenery and the quiet, listening to the tūīs in the morning was bliss!
Noticed many surrounding walks and nearby zoos for anyone with families.
Highly recommend to others!
Will definitely be coming back! Thank you for your fantastic hospitality! 😁
- Chris (10/5): excellent above expectations - excellent
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - lovely place to stay the first time we stay in air b&b wish to try and was surprised us
- Dan (9/5): Superb -
- Adrian (10/5): - The host was so accommodating and nothing was too much to ask. Magical setting in the tranquility of our beautiful Maunga, all just 30 minutes from the heart of New Plymouth.
Will definitely be back again.
- Jones (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kristen (8/5): If you are wanting to get away from it all , then this is the place - Our host was amazing, lovely continental breakfast with freshly brewed coffee. Nothing was a problem, happy to chat with you and gave us great dinner recommendations. The driveway up to the property is quite long and crosses over a working farm (definitely better in a high vehicle) you really do feel away from it all nestled in the rainforest. I found the room a little chilly, although it did have a oil heater. The bathroom was recently renovated and was lovely but cold under foot on the tiles. Slippers recommended. Would if been better if there was a bathroom heater and heated towel rail.
If you are a light sleeper I would recommend ear plugs as you can hear talking in the next room.
- Caleb (10/5): Exceptional -
- Edgardo (10/5): Beautiful stay - It was a very quiet, beautiful stay surrounded by nature in a beautiful facility. The owners are wonderful.
- Mark (9/5): Superb - The tranquility was amazing, facilities very clean, hospitality very friendly
- Tom (9/5): Superb -
- Daniel (9/5): Perfect location for a relaxing holiday - It is a very quiet accomondation in the middle of the rain forest. The owners are welcoming people who made our stay very comfortable and enjoable. We had no time for the walk but this would be a "must do" for next time.
- Cor (9/5): Superb - It was a pleasant stay with nice breakfast and friendly people. The garden and surroundings are beautiful. You can easy walk into the rain forest
- Silke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kelsey (9/5): Superb - Loved the views. The retreat is nestled in gorgeous gardens and makes you feel relaxed. Samara greeted us and was wonderful to communicate with. The room was spacious we couldn't have asked for more.
- Victoria (8/5): Very nice BnB - We really enjoyed our stay here. Beautiful surroundings and scenery driving to and from the BnB. Feels like staying at someones house, but still you have your own “hotel room”. In the hallway you can fix a cup of coffe, tea or hot chocolate to bring upstairs to the lounge or to the room. Fresh linen, nice SPA shampoo, soap and a bouquet of flowers from the garden.
When we stayed it was not so many staying at the same time so it was very quite and relaxing.
- Anne (9/5): Superb -
- Melbin (5/5): Passable -
- Janaka (10/5): They were extremely accommodating,Overall, we a great experience at the Pathuha Lodge. - The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Taranaki
- Sarah (10/5): Easy, green and very comfortable stay close to taranaki tramps. - Beautiful location well off the track, with tramping path through rainforest to puteiki. Birds and plant life surround. John and Samara are very welcoming and helpful, the perfect hosts. Nearby village of oakura is lovely for a beach day or a bite to eat. Taranaki hikes an easy drive. The wifi got a bit sketchy at one point (but was excellent for most of the stay)
- Mariam (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect place to stay!!! If you are looking for something special, then you should book this place. We stayed here two nights and absolutely loved it: the nature, the silence, the animals, the accommodation - there is really nothing to complain about. The host was super friendly and welcoming. She also invited us on a farm tour which was really interesting. Thank you so much for the great time we had here. And the hot pool in the garden was the best !! nothing to complain about
- Lan (7/5): Good -
- Fiona (5/5): Very disappointed. Would not recommend. - The Shampoo smelt nice There were no in room facilities for tea and coffee making nor cooking…this is problematic given you are 2km up a rutted gravel road and then a 30 minute drive to restaurants. Its also so dated decor wise. the ceiling in our room had glitter popcorn ceilings which are unexpected in a rainforest “resort”. The lighting was 1980s frilled lampshades. The bathroom was similarly 1980s. I also hated the fact that we couldn’t secure our door from our side.
- Rachael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Phil (9/5): Superb -
- Jacques (7/5): Good -
- Claire-lucia (7/5): Good - Location was nice. Bed comfortable.
Grounds lovely No savery spreads, peanut butter or marmite for toast. Just sweet.
- Maria (10/5): - Our stay was great. It’s a short bush walk to Pukeiti. The lodge is very clean and tidy with big comfy couches. The shower pressure is amazing and the bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was lovely.
- Davis-waite (9/5): Superb - Beautiful location and lodge. Nice and warm with a log fire and surrounded by native bush. Amazing hosts! There was nothing I didn't like.
- Lance (10/5): - Amazing, Amazing, Amazing.
So friendly and welcoming.
Amazing service and introduction.
Highly recommend to everyone wanting to get away and relax or a weekend away with a loved one
- Olivia (6/5): - - Late check-in and friendly staff.
- Scenery is beautiful.
- Location is lovely and quiet with lots of bird sounds.
- Communal areas are nice and recently updated.
- Room smelt musty coming in.
- Wallpaper in suite was peeling off the walls a bit, looked tired.
- Bathroom in suite was a bit old and outdated which unfortunately just makes it look a bit unclean as well (not what was shown in advertising pictures, new and updated appear to be communal)
- Water pressure was very weak.
- Most amenities are in communal areas rather than the room. Rooms are very basic.
- Only 3 coat hangers and no where much to put any clothes.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A beautiful quiet restful spot to relax and get away from busy city life.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Helpfulness of staff. Serenity of building and environment
- Tim (10/5): - Nice room. Great community area. Good continental breakfast. Friendly host. Remote.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Breakfast gets a bit boring having musli four days in a row.
- Lance (10/5): - What an amazing place,
Beautiful,
Very friendly and amazing people
- Philip (10/5): Short trip to Taranaki - Fantastic location, remote yet accessible. Sally is a great host.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Catch up in peace and quiet - Clear instructions on how to get there. Not the easiest place. Good details that you should eat before arriving or take a picnic as quite a way from shops etc. we had a very relaxing time and really enjoyed watching the bird life.
Cooked breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious
- Lance (10/5): Taylors - Clean comfortable rooms. The host Sally made you feel at home and very helpful helpful in local adventure with a home cooked breakfast. Thank you Sally Lance And Lisa
