- David (6/5): - Bar staff friendly and helpful
- darrell (2/5): - It is the most dirtiest, disgusting place I have ever stayed at!!!
- Kristal (8/5): - I enjoyed my stay .
- Natalie (4/5): - Mold here and there on things, even on sheets, brown water from the tap that cleared after a minute but I still felt like it was not safe to use, noisy from the pub below, everything was shabby and in poor condition, but the AC, that was the only thing that worked well. Close to the public transport, so that was good for me. otherwise, it's a place for drunk people with low standards.
- Anne (4/5): - Would not stay there again building needs an upgrading also bathroom need upgrading too the furniture in the room we didn't feel safe
- Hanna (2/5): - I couldn't believe there's no aircon in the room only one electric fan but it wasn't windy and cold at all It was so hot in that room and big music party outside so it was too hot and so damn noisy
I checked in 7pm and I was ran away from this hotel at 12am cus so hot and I couldn't sleep at all
- Shane (6/5): - Meals where great and reasonably priced, staff where great, Main function areas where really well set out and pleasant. Rooms not up to par. Hot, tiles falling apart, windows rusted shut and just “Blah”
- Simon (8/5): One night at McGuires - One night stay. Room was decent size and nice and clean.
- Selin (2/5): - I couldn’t sleep due to very loud music all night until 2am. It felt like my room was in the middle of the bar. Will never stay at that place.
It was a relatively clean place but everything is pretty old.
- Anna (8/5): - Great staff, super friendly and helpful. My room wasn’t secure though, with one window missing a panel and a set of louvres ’repaired’ with a beer sign. 😂 also the missing window panels meant the karaoke was super loud. Overall pretty stoked to get an en-suite and bar fridge for the price.
- Don (6/5): - Too noisy in the room with thumping music playing all day
- Eva (8/5): - For the cleaning in the buthroom not to good! Need to use the bleache!!! Very moulding!
The Fan is very ,very dusty and the mirrow have to change ,+ the vanity/ porcelain/ having the lots of crack in it! In the bedroom next to the bad top the Drows having the self is/ malt the wood!
- Michael (6/5): - If you're staying overnight on a Saturday, be prepared for no sleep. Music pounding threw the walls till 2am.... Other than that, the staff are awesome
- Matthew (8/5): - Very friendly staff.
Neat,comfortable and affordable rooms.
- Carlos (6/5): - I love the beer garden. Nice setup out there.
- Ryan (6/5): - The showers wear dirty the walls wear dirty the bed was probably dirty too but I don’t wanna know about that
- Frank (8/5): - Accommodation in a very convenient location and affordable excellent pricing.
- Joseph (6/5): - Typical old pub
- Huw (10/5): - Great value for the price. Sure, if you want 5 star luxury, this isn't for you - find somewhere else- at a lot higher price!
Bedding clean and comfortable. Room clean though dated - but as you would expect.
No noise problem - but no live music when i stayed, if there was music on i would probably be listening to it rather than trying to have an early quiet night.
Loved lady at reception was really helpful ( I hadn't realised bookings were on line only )
All in all, if i need a cheap convenient place to stay in Mackay, I'll be back Thanks7
- Phillip (10/5): - Enjoyed the stay
- Linus (4/5): - noisy fri and sat
- Nick (2/5): - I love a dingy pub.. I don’t have high standards and this joint still didn’t meet them. The bed was torn and looked like it had STIs. Room smelled bad and had no windows. No hot water. Yikes.
- Lachlan (10/5): - Stayed twice now. This is the best budget accommodation in Mackay. As long as you've got realistic expectations of a hotel at this price point, you will be nicely surprised by how good it actually is. The beds are comfortable, the air conditioners and the kettle work, and the showers are hot. How much more do you need? A centralised location? You can't get much more central than this. Pop outside, turn left and take 20 odd steps and you're right on the main drag with restaurants, Night Owl convenience, major banks, and a very nice public library with free wi-fi and power points. And the Greyhound intercity bus stop is just 3 blocks away.
- Annalyce (2/5): - Didn't uphold booking due to discriminating against medical condition, didnt get any clear answers on how to process refund, and refused a place to stay for the night after insisting you can only book online then after refusing service after paying and no answer on a refund because it wasn't booked through "them" asked if there is any way to pay at the desk then book online, nope, funny thing is we had to speak louder to each other each time a drink was Spilled and smashed by the intoxicated people in the bar let in by them happily, so Intoxication isn't a issue there and yet that's the reasoning I got when they refused accommodation, still waiting on the bank to process refund I let everyone know to not go there, because if you rock up with a medical condition where you're not even allowed to drink and your weak on your feet and think out loud to yourself then no accommodation service is provided to you. Waste of time and lies the whole way through on the booking site as well, wanted $99 at first then bumped it down to $79, still way too much for "budget" accommodation, i wonder if I was actually drinking and intoxicated in their bar throwing them money all night like the party that was being held there, how easy would it be to get a nights stay there, probably would be extremely easy I bet. Thanks McGuires for this, ruined any good name they have left about themselves. It's too difficult to get a refund on Expedia and McGuires gives appalling services anyway. Won't be back
- Gwynneth (8/5): - It's an old building in need of upgrading but would be a shame if it was made too contempory.
- Sera (10/5): - All good, central, bit older
- David (8/5): - Good price, conditions were comfortable.
Staff service is very good.
Meals are great.
- Niamh (8/5): - Had a great sleep
- Guneet (10/5): - It’s nice, clean and quiet place to stay.
- Jaylah (6/5): - Amazing staff and a convenient and cheap place to stay
- Samuel (2/5): - Booked but when arrived told there were no rooms. Told they would process refund. No refund and when contacted expedia i was told they tried but closed the case 24 hours later as they could not get hold of the manager. This is because despite turning me away the staff put 'booking complete'. Still no refund and going to take this further as there was a similar incident not long ago and no refund for that either. Do not book - especially if its the last if your money as you wont get it back and most likely wont get a room either.
- Matthew (10/5): - Great location
- David (8/5): - Close to town, food is good.
Bit noisey on Friday and Saturday nights.
- Robert (8/5): - There is nothing wrong with the property. It's very basic but when share costing with a friend for a night out on the town, it's good value.
- Andrew (6/5): - Friday and Saturday night dance parties
- David (10/5): - The staff are really friendly, the room was great and at a good price.
- FRANK (8/5): - Great location, friendly and welcoming, cheap and comfortable.
Fit for purpose and price so if you want extras etc book elsewhere.
Thank you Lenny and team :)
- Don (6/5): - It was a bit noisy In the room loud music
- Paula (10/5): - Didn't like that there was no extra blankets.

- Rob (10/5): - Friendly helpful staff. comfortable room at affordable price which met our needs. Terrific meal.
- Debra (6/5): - Clean but very loud music till 10pm
- Michael (10/5): - It was an old hotel with new management. If you could look past the need for a spruce up the building.
They had karaoke and a separate band area, where we had a really fantastic time.
- Geoff (6/5): - Lots of stairs, hand rail only 1 side & bump your head going downstairs
- Matt (8/5): - Typical pub accommodation. Staff were awesome and friendly. They made me feel like a local.
- Antonio (4/5): - Very disappointing night at the McGuire's Pub.
Bed were terrible and did not get a good night sleep.
Noisy and rumbling noises all night long.
Pour condition of the room, peeling paint everywhere, Shower not draining, broken tiles, rusted taps etc etc.
I would not stay there again even though its a budget accommodation...but there was only what we could find for the 2022 QME.
- athol (8/5): - Great room and services just pub was a bit old but no complaints from me or the family 😀
- Matthew (8/5): - Close central location
- Mick (2/5): - Rooms were fine for price but couldn’t stay in the room on the Saturday night as the night club area music was so load it vibrated the walls
- wade (6/5): - not much it was in a good location
- Gary (8/5): - Location
- mick (2/5): - Dirty , needs renovating , staff tryed to access my credit card when copied at check in desk,
Room had not been cleaned in any way from previous guessed maybe a mix up ? Bottom of the barrel accommodation.

- Mark (6/5): - Ok for the price
- Jade (10/5): - Food and beverage as well as good inviting atmosphere
- Matthew (8/5): - friendly staff always willing to ensure that my stay is great.
- Kerry (2/5): - Took our booking & money & when got to place there was no one there.Very poor on McGuires behalf Will be letting it known not to stay at McGuires.Take your booking & money, but no accommodation. Not happy.Very very bad.
- Carol (2/5): - Booked and paid on booking .com but no one was there to let us in. We waited for 3 hours only to be told by a caretaker that we would have to find other accommodation. I still have not received my $69 back 😕
- Brad (4/5): - Like the pool tables. Dislike that bathroom was filthy and still had someones used towel in it. Booked a room with a balcony, there was NO balcony for my room
- David (8/5): - I will stay there again.
- Jay (2/5): - Not clean at all.
- Rob (4/5): - -Typical pub accommodation.
-Perhaps an investment in a carpet clean upstairs could freshen the place up and remove the usual old pub smell.
-The room has good amenities though the unfinished timber work and mould around the shower let’s it down.
-The worst thing is that the aircon barely worked and the vents were full of gunk. A health hazard I’ve no doubt. Not great for the owners electricity bill either I suspect as the poor system struggles to cool through the uncleaned filters.
- Peter (8/5): Ok for the price - Clean and comfortable. Room a bit run-downbut ok for the price. Great pub with good entertainment.
- Peter (8/5): No frills accommodation - No frills accommodation but cheap and ok for the price. Great pub with great entertainment and meals.
- Mohammad (2/5): - Dirty and the service not good
- Ebony (10/5): Best stay ever - It was amazing. Right in the heart of the cbd which made it nice and easy to access the night life and restaurants of Mackay
- Michael (8/5): - There was nowhere to fill the kettle all the bins in the upper for were overflowing and there was no smoking anyway
- Scott (8/5): - Good cheap accommodation
- Michael (4/5): - Some lights didn’t work, the roof leaked onto the carpet
- Trang (8/5): Good - Happy stay
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We stayed on Monday and Tuesday night, it was very noisy even during weekdays. There is no quilt only a bed sheet so needed to turn on the aircon, however aircon was very loud.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Broken window, No power in the bathroom, Poor bed blanket was itching.
Noisy fridge.
Room upstair the bar, LOUD MUSIC until 1.30 a.m
on a friday night. I had to sleep with my headphones ON all night because you can hear littteraly everything
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Such lovely Barmaids. Working Air-Con. Cold Beer. Good Pub Feed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Needs renovation but was a roof for a couple of nights
- Pokiha (4/5): - Place was cheap and dingy but I guess you get what you pay for.
Don’t ask for a late checkout, I asked for one was told that’s fine but then later found out that if you checkout after 10 they will charge you for another nights stay. Was not told that when I asked, glad I found that out before getting charged.
Also they don’t like answering the phone and if you do get a room make sure it has A/C I made that mistake and the room was practically a sauna.
- Jack (8/5): Pretty good for the money - Rooms are dated, but the beds are comfy. Water is hot, air con cool.
I can't really fault the place considering the price.
- Rohit (2/5): Pathetic & terrible - it was not good at all, it was almost like a mortuary, it was shown in the photos as if it was like a gold palace, lighting was so bad in the room that you can't even see your own self.
