Listening to the history of the place at the dinner was a bonus. There was nothing not to like only the place could do with some work as it feels a bit run down. The kitchen facilities in the room were inadequate, particularly when there are limited places around to eat.

- northalaskachris (4/5): The worst nights stay in 21 days holidaying in Tasmania. - Spent one night here and it was the worst experience of my time holidaying in Tasmania for 3 weeks. The rooms was not as we were led to believe when booked by Tasvacations. There were millipedes aplenty on the floor, a mouse came into our room and went under the bed. The curtain covering the front door was ripped and not hanging on hooks. The place was a disaster. The owner offered us a bottle of wine and cheese platter for the inconvenience. I would never stay there again. Poorly run and not tidy.

- Mavis (8/5): Beautiful, peaceful location. - The location is lovely, the staff were very helpful. The heater wasn't working so our room was freezing cold, however a staff member fixed it for us which we really appreciated. However the bride and groom's heater was not working either so they were freezing cold all night. I dropped something which I had to retrieve from under the bed.....there was so much dust and dirt under there, I don't think it has been cleaned for years!

Our hosts Richard and Ros and their staff were so welcoming and we enjoyed and shared both a delicious home cooked meal and good breakfast the next morning. The accommodation was in a rustic cottage with all the modern comforts and a very comfortable bed. We enjoyed our walk around the course and into town. I would love to return with our family to share the experience of Ratho Farm.

- adamdJ8334ZV (10/5): An exceptional holiday, friendly staff. - This place is an absolute must if you are touring Tassie. It is an Aussie gem, a quirky genuine farmstay experience. The new Manager and staff are wonderful, the food is great, the self-service honesty bar is from the old days. The homestead is an historic building, and dinner can come with a local historian who gives life to the history of the place. We were a group of 7 golfers, and we played the best courses Tassie has to offer. We rated Ratho as a must-do on any golfer's itinerary. Playing off the tee over 200 sheep is unique, and focusses the attention. Where else can you do that???
- Rebecca (9/5): An amazing experience. - The whole experience was amazing. The room are in converted farm buildings. They are practical, even including under floor heating in the bathrooms. They have not covered over the rustic nature of the infrastructure instead making these a feature of the rooms. Comfy beds and all the standard features of a hotel room included plus chairs to sit on. Loved that we could walk around and see some of the animals too - including a Highland cow. Nothing really stands out.

There is a communal kitchen, however, I didn't fancy wandering over for an early morning breakfast before a day of travelling.

- Rachel (8/5): - A different place to stay with an interesting history. Accommodation is in repurposed farm buildings and cottages. Ours was part of the stables. The bathroom was huge with a stand alone bath and an excellent shower. Living area was a bit cramped but clean and the bed was comfy. It was hot the night we stayed, the air conditioning was effective but we would have liked a window that could be opened rather than have the aircon on all night. The dinner in the homestead was an absolute highlight. We met other guests and were entertained, and educated, by the host sharing stories about Ratho’s history during the meal. Host and staff couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming and were a wealth of information about the property. I even caught a glimpse of the resident platypus. Hardly any space between bed and wall in one side. Non opening windows.

- Robert (10/5): We were enchanted by the rural setting just outside of pretty Bothwell and the history talks of the homestead by a local - Charming place with rustic buildings and historic farmhouse surrounded by oldest golf course after St Andrew’s in Scotland. A surprise for us as we thought it was a farm. The rough terrain from cabin to the farmhouse for meals was difficult for those with mobility issues.

- Y4198INjudyh (10/5): A taste of history - I chose Ratho Farm as the perfect venue to celebrate a milestone birthday and the bicentenary of an ancestor's arrival as a convict in Van Diemen's Land. With family and friends accommodated in various convict-built cottages and farm buildings, we were able to enjoy all the modern amenities in beautifully preserved buildings which are now 200 years old. Dinner at the homestead on the Saturday night provided a great opportunity for us to gather as a group, and meet some fellow travellers. We enjoyd some old-fashioned farm meals complemented by cheese platters and home-made desserts. Over dinner we learnt a little about the original Bothwell settlers and were invited to share some of our own family history. We opted for an informal barbecue meal on the Sunday evening in the farmyard surrounds with various guests contributing meat, salads, etc. Our hosts were most helpful in setting up the barbecue, chairs and tables while we swapped stories on the day's various sightseeing activities. Many thanks to our hosts Ros & Richard who went out of their way to accommodate our every need along with Marco, Luca and all staff members who contributed to a wonderful stay at Ratho.

- W4164HGbrianm (10/5): Great find - After a bit of digging online, I came across this 'gem' of a place/stay, that also happens to be the first golf course to be constructed in Australia (amazing). My self contained unit was spacious, super comfy bedding, easy parking, and quite a challenging course (bring a few extra balls) I highly recommend the 'family dinner' hosted by Richard and Roz (caretakers of the farm). - Judy (4/5): Disappointing - South American staff were lovely. Host Ross was very nice. I don't like writing poor reviews but in this case I feel I need to. I am so surprised by the high rating of Ratho Farm and can only think that perhaps things have changed for the worse. . Or that others have really enjoyed the golf and so the extras like accommodation aren't a big deal. For us initially we liked the ratings and idea of Ratho Farm and so we booked it. It was a problem from the get-go. Wrong booking and room which was resolved but the cottage we were eventually given had no dining area or even any table at all even though the booking said that there was a dining area. The room had its own problems like chairs used as bedside tables, no shower curtain, floors not finished, not very clean (except the bedding was fine). And whilst some of this could be overlooked because things do go wrong and no-one can get it right all the time, BUT there was an irrigation pump outside our cottage that went 24/7 loudly and when it was queried, it was dismissed. We also were part of a $65 a head dinner which was no where near what you'd expect for such a price. My husband's salmon was the tail of a fillet with two roasted carrots. There was a serving of potato bake, some dressed rocket and apply crumble. Again, things do happen but it was done on a shoe string and for $130 for the two of us, well..... not good enough. I will say though that the staff were very nice particularly the South American ones. They were charming and tried to be so helpful. So would I recommend?? Not at all. But having said that for people who like golf, perhaps they would say something different.

Helpful manager and staff. Cosy and comfortable room with private bathroom. Farm setting with a golf course. Calm and quiet environment. Peaceful! Thanks 🙏

We stayed in the ‘Fishing Kitchen’ which was a shed/barn converted to self contained accomodation with two bedrooms: a king and single bed. Electric blankets, underfloor heating in bathroom, reverse cycle aircon. Clean and comfy with a nice outlook to the river. Rustic in feel; this is a farm experience and the buildings are circa 1800s. We opted to join the group dining experience ; three courses for $65 each. The host explained the history of the farm and area which was lovely. A really welcoming and unique experience if you need to stay just outside of Hobart (we had travelled from Strahan).

- Bonnie (10/5): A Scottish experience outside of Scotland. - The Ratio farm is a unique experience with a very traditional Scottish links style course which was fantastic..... and challenging! They were even sheep on the course! The accommodation is very lovely and very comfortable. Although we didn't dine at the homestead, they have excellent dining options. If we could have controlled the weather. As for the course and farm, we had no complaints!

- Rachele (9/5): Home away from home - Quiet, quirky location that shows you never judge a book by its cover. The rooms are lovely and the homestead is warm & cosy, full of history. The group dinner is a highlight, especially with the host giving us a reading of the people who started the farm and their stories. On the pricier side for a room, dinner, drinks and breakfast .
