Guest Reviews
- Ian (8/5): Overall we enjoyed our short stay - A very comfortable and spacious suite with great garden The owners' information notes the unit is called Mt Dunblane, referring to the local peak which the unit is facing. The official name (NZ Geographic Board) is actually Dumblane (just for the record)
The sink access is so bad we almost left the final wash up to the owners

- Barbara (10/5): This was a totally enjoyable stay and we hope to return!! - This property is an absolute gem. The unit was beautifully furnished, very spacious and a delightful place to stay. The owners had given much thought to those staying…… providing towels for the hot pools, a sweet treat to have on arrival with coffee, power boards on each side of the very comfortable bed to charge devices and more. As well as a beautiful unit there is a magnificent garden for guests to enjoy. I highly recommend Marchmont Gardens as a wonderful place to stay. Absolutely nothing. Just wish we had stayed longer!!
- bill (10/5): Quiet, luxurious unit with fantastic views of lovely Alpine garden - One of our favourite places in our 6 week trip to the South Island. It is a luxurious and very well appointed unit with a huge comfortable bed. The views of Jan's beautiful alpine garden from the room with the distant mountains beyond were just fantastic. It's very quiet and away from the bustle of Hanmer village but only a pleasant 15 minute walk around the base of the golf course to bars and restaurants. Everything was fantastic
- Wendy (10/5): A great place to relax and enjoy the locality. Peaceful and quiet. - Warm welcome, comfortable, clean and well equipped room. Lovely toiletries and great facilities. Gardens were great for walking and reflecting. Thank you for you thoughtful hospitality. Nothing all good.
- Allison (10/5): Amazing property with great hosts. - Stunning gardens, quiet, comfortable big bed and lovely host. Nothing.
- Melissa (9/5): -
- Fiona (10/5): - Beautiful gardens and well appointed unit.
- Selwyn (8/5): - The room was very spacious and well appointed. A lovely touch of home baking was in the room. The bonus was that it snowed overnight. I felt it was expensive but we enjoyed our tranquil stay.
- Julie (9/5): Superb -
- Nicola (9/5): Superb -
- Selina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trevor (8/5): Very good -
- Mercedes (10/5): We wish we could’ve stayed longer! - Everything! Easy check in, got shown everything, felt very welcomed and comfortable. We got little chocolates beside our beds and even some slice to enjoy!! Was so beautiful. The garden was peaceful and stunning to look at. Everything was clean, well looked after and comfortable! You can tell that. There’s passion and love put into this place. No not at all. I couldn’t fault this property!
- Steve (9/5): Great views and even better sleeps - The peace and tranquility. It was an awesome escape. We slept so well and loved the gentle hum of bees as a background. Ideally located within 10mins walk of Hanmer centre and yet far enough away to avoid any touristy intrusion.... Oh and the views of the mountains were sooo nice. Honestly there was nothing wrong, maybe a small bin could be added in the bathroom and a small table / shelf next to bbq but that is nit picking what is a great place to stay.
- Rosemary (8/5): Quiet private location close to the golf course. - Lovely garden setting, friendly hosts, spacious and clean rooms. Good bathroom with toiletries provided. Private and secure with space to lock bikes up outside. Very quiet. Hairdryer has seen better days.
- Allison (10/5): Absolutely wonderful stay - Our room was spacious, exceptional and comfortable with all the thoughtful extras. Lovely bath products, chocolates beside the bed, homemade biscuits and freshly ground coffee. Then there’s the huge bed, big bathroom and patio to sit by the immaculate and stunning gardens which are a credit to them. We were delighted with everything including the super friendly hosts. Location is immediately near the golf course and bowling green and a short walk to the main street and restaurants. Will definitely stay again. There was nothing we didn’t like.
- Evan (10/5): This is a very peaceful retreat, whatever the weather. - Our cottage was clean and welcoming on arrival with extras such as fruit, chocolate, luxury soap & shampoo, body lotion and towels to use at the hot pools. The location was peaceful with only the sound of birdsong. We would happily recommend and return here again.
- John (9/5): A beautiful gem of a property with warm welcoming hosts - The warm welcome and generous touches a little something in the fridge some fruit and the most glorious garden in which you are welcome to explore. Peaceful serene and perfect. Nothing
- Sebin (9/5): Superb -

- Stephen (9/5): Host Jan was very hospitable - Larger Smart TV
- Gabriela (10/5): Tranquility and comfort - Everything was amazing, gorgeous and tranquil setting, beautiful unit, comfortable and with everything you need. Bathroom was big, comfortable shower with great pressure.
Peaceful area and quiet, slept amazing.
- Jo (10/5): Delightful - What a delightful quiet oasis we found. A gorgeous garden to enjoy and really comfortable accommodation.... but it was the personal touches that were the icing on the cake...a delicious chocolate slice in the fridge, a fruit bowl, chocolates, games and DVDs. Thank you so much. We should have stayed longer... next time!
- Kenneth (10/5): A most pleasant experience - Marchmont Gardens is an almost utopian place for any couple visiting for a few days. The King room comfortably accommodates a dining table for 4, couch , TV table plus about 60 videos and occasional chair. The large double bed was bedecked with a regal bedspread with matching pillows . The spacious bathroom was adorned with modern fittings, heater on the wall and under floor tile heating. The quality of furnishings is akin to that found in superior hotels. The cake slices plus bowl of fruit and chocolates on the bedside tables was a nice touch. One can sit on patio chairs and admire the rock garden while hearing the tinkling of a fountain as water cascades into the fish pond. The garden is surrounded by bushes with a cherry tree in the center providing shade.Majestic mountains in the distance crown it all. The small town boasts a range of restaurants that will satisfy most palets . It also has a laundry with a website. Reviews are laudable. Google it There is nothing to dislike provided one has wheels, a car perhaps
- Toni-louise (10/5): Beautiful spot to recharge the batteries, felt really homely and we were really impressed. - Attention to detail, lovely fresh fruit, had everything you would need for a short stay, freshly ground coffee. Jan was lovely and very helpful, gardens were a delight, beautiful scenery, quiet & safe. The weather on the second day of our trip hahaha
- Maryann (9/5): Superb - Spacious clean unit in a beautiful garden setting. Warm and friendly hosts. We arrived on a freezing night with snow lightly falling to find heating in room and underfloor bathroom heating on. Also fresh fruit n cakes … highly recommend! Loved our two nights here.
- Benita (9/5): A great place to stay! - The room was really spacious, comfortable and private. There were thoughtful touches such as chocolates by the beside, slices as another treat, ground coffee for the plunger and beach towels for the hot pools. The outlook onto the beautiful garden was also a bonus! Being in a peaceful location away from the main town centre did mean that we needed to drive at night to get to a restaurant. This wasn't a huge issue, just something to bear in mind.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Battams (10/5): Wonderful stay at Marchmount, beautiful studio in central location, extra touches very thoughtful. - Beautiful garden setting, 1st class studio with kitchenette & BBQ facilities, heating flooring in bathroom, lovely kind touches of slice & chocolate. Couldn’t fault it.

Small kitchen.

An excellent choice for a relaxing stay in Hanmer.

Very comfortable spotlessly clean accommodation with a kitchenette to self cater if you want. Jan is a wonderful host and it is well worthwhile taking the breakfast option to sample all her homemade goodies. We spent 5 nights and enjoyed biking, hiking and soaking in the Hanmer Springs hot pools. This would be the best place to stay in Hanmer Springs

- Verified traveler (10/5): - First up, have the breakfast. Superb doesn't do it justice. And if its a nice morning, have it in the garden.
As for everything else, just perfect. We stayed in Mt Dunblane suite. Everything in the room screamed quality.
A few other things. The hosts were fantastic and the gardens are breathtaking. And did we mention the brekky!!
Will return.
