Guest Reviews
- Toby (8/5): - Clean with good facilities and friendly staff Small room but fine for the price
- ERIK ALBERTO (9/5): Worth it :) - It’s so close to the shuttle bus to make the Tongariro trekking, bathrooms, kitchen and showers clean. Fabolous space in the gaming room to be chill if empty. The price for the room it’s a bit high, for one night it’s okay but is so small. You have to pay for Wifi which it’s fine but the conexion it’s not good at all so you don’t know where you are spending your data.

- Maria Helena 1982 (8/5): Great location - Bed was good, and bathrooms tidy with plenty of stalls. Location is 20 minutes from Tongariro, which is great. I would stay here again. The checkin time is limited to 2-6pm, which is awkward if you are hiking and want to arrive before/after for a single night stay. Plan accordingly.
- Nadine (8/5): -
- Audrey (7/5): - Nice staff, clean showers, kitchen and toilet No phone signal for me as a 2 degrees customer.
- Pethybridge (10/5): - Amazing owners. Very peaceful
Would stay again
- David (8/5): A good value stopover with easy access to Tongariro Crossing - Kitchen facilities Noisy teenagers
- Christine (7/5): Als Ausgangsort für das Tongariro Crossing völlig ok. - Die Lage Der Zustand von Toiletten und Duschen. Die Zimmer rochen feucht.

- Nadica (8/5): Luxuscamping! - Viele Kochfelder. Super saubere Küche, Bad und Zimmer.
Ein super durchdachtes Konzept. Wanderempfehlungen mit Karte. Überaua freundliches Personal. Die Lage ist Ideal. Alkes war perfekt!
- Ngaia Gudgeon (10/5): - The location was perfect with how close the facility was to mt Tongariro. The space was clean and tidy. Clean bathrooms and hot showers.

- Henry C (10/5): Epic family run vibe with fantastic facilities - Exceptional hosts (Greg and his wife) who were so warm and lovely and gave us tips. 15mins from Tongariro shuttle and 20 mins from other highly rated day hikes. The kitchen had washing liquid, and pots and pans and lovely wood benches and places to sit. Also a games room with a ping pong table ?! Best holiday park we've stayed in! No bins in the room but in the hallway outside. Cabin room was tiny but does have a metal cupboard/stand.
- Dario (7/5): -
- Sarah (7/5): Closest place to stay for the Tongariro Great Walk - The only reason to stay here is if you’re doing the Tongariro Great Walk. The park is a 5 min drive from the shuttle pickup location. Front desk staff were friendly. Facilities are dated, cabins filled with dead/living bugs, there are all these unwelcome signs about how you cannot use the toilets/trash after the 10:00 check out. I get if they have issues with people using the facility after check out but there are smarter/nicer ways of addressing it rather than filling the space with huge hostile messaging.

- Jacqueline (10/5): Second time I stayed here, would come again! - Clean, close to Tongariro Alpine Crossing, very friendly staff, peaceful Only the pillows were not so comfy, but that’s individual taste
- Kunze (8/5): - What a wonderful accommodation in this rough wilderness. Simple but you get everything you need even if it's raining cats and dogs in this environment. Thank you

- pamela (10/5): Cheap, clean, warm and close to the mountains. and central to all the things you want to do. - facilities are old and a little worn, but clean and warm and the staff were very friendly. If you want to be out all day and have a warm dry place to sleep - at a great price - you found it. Bring your own plates and utensils is not what I am used to. but the kitchen was clean and it was not hard to supply items needed.
- Stan (8/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - The host was very accommodating and pleasant
- Niamh (4/5): Basic accommodation Needs a lick of paint - Staff were very helpful
- Erika (6/5): Great location to Tongariro Crossing and has very clean facilities. Unfortunately, after we back from the crossing the s - Location great, very cleaner, easy access Cold showers!
- Justin (10/5): Exceptional - Very relaxed atmosphere, good facilities
- Sandra (8/5): Great value, great location. - It was close to all the activities we had planned in the Tongariro National Park.
- Helen (6/5): Great stay, thanks - location, kitchen, cleanliness, accessibility and cleanliness of the spa, staff were great the bed took up almost all the room
- Melanie (6/5): Pleasant - The park itself is fine and the personnel is very friendly. The toilets and showers are fine and well looked after. The location was very good - close to the Tongariro crossing and shuttle, in the middle of nature and close to National Park (village). The nightsky is beautiful. The cooking facilities are not so good. They actually tell you in beforehand in a message so it's not totally to blame on them. But there are no plates and no cutleries so if you're not self-sufficient or driving with a non-RV you're having a hard time eating. There are pans and pots but only one knife and no dish soap. You need to reserve your sheets and blankets in advance and pay for it extra, otherwise you won't sleep very well. Luckily we did book it but some people didn't and they were very unhappy. There were no towels included.
So in conclusion if you are self-sufficient or bring all the stuff needed, you'll have a good stay. Make sure you bring or reserve/order the right stuff in advance.
- Frederik (8/5): Very good - Perfect stay of you do the Crossing!
- Harrington (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rebecca (9/5): Very practical place to stay for those hoping to be close to the national park. - The park was very close to Tongariro National Park, which made things very convenient for our hiking plans. The communal kitchen was clean and had nice equipment, the dishes they provided made cooking meals easy, and they provided the room with a minifridge that helped as well. It was perfect for campers and hikers who are hoping to have a comfy bed after tent camping or hiking a lot! The cabin is small, so just be prepared for that if you book here. None of the accommodations were inadequate, it just isn't a fancy place to stay.
- Candice (10/5): Great location, peaceful, friendly. - The location is just awesome - right near the Tongariro Crossing, a short drive into Turangi and also close to Lake Rotopounamu. The owners are just wonderful people. The kitchen is very basic so please make sure you bring your own cookware, sharp knife, plates, cups, cutlery. If you do that you'll be fine - two big fridges, plenty of room at the two big gas hob ovens for communal cooking, plenty of bench space. The kitchen has a great vibe with fellow travellers. I wish I had known that the facilities were so basic in the kitchen before arriving - I would have brought my own pans, sharp knife with me etc. But apparently they do have spares if people are really caught short with this.
- Janine (9/5): Perfect location for Tongariro adventures - Clean, well organised, good communication & excellent value for money Women & men share shower block
- Miriam (9/5): Superb - Perfect location to do the Tongariro Alpin Crossing! Friendly staff, room is very basic but matches with the price, clean
- Céline (7/5): Good - The accommodation was very clean and well located if you want to go hiking. There is wifi which you can buy for an extra charge. You can cook well in the communal kitchen. The staff is very friendly.
- Stigall (9/5): Superb -
- Mei (8/5): A great budget stay near Tongariro Parking lot - This is a very basic but clean and convenient cabin accommodation with facilities such as the communal bathroom, laundry room, kitchen, tv room and a sitting area outside. They paid attention to little details such as the racks and hooks in the shower room. The bedding needs to be reserved in advance and rented out for 15NZD if you’re not bringing your own. Overall, the stay was very comfortable and the hotel was really well organized. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a budget accommodation near the Tongariro Crossing Parking lot! They don’t provide dishes and silverware in the kitchen so if you don’t bring your own, it was difficult to cook/eat!
- Paul (10/5): Great budget place to stay, handy to everything - Easy comms, good facilities etc n/a
- Helena (8/5): Would recommend for tongariro crossing - Very friendly at reception and great campground with shared amenities such as kitchen and game room. Room had everything we needed and close distance to the tongariro crossing. WiFi was limited and bed creaked at times, but very manageable!
- Andrew (10/5): Amazing and friendly staff. Operate their own bus to drop off and pick up if planning on walking the Tongario Apline Cro - Great location to access the Tongario alpine Crossing. The staff were amazing and they also operate their own bus to drop off and pick up from the walk. N/a
- Arthur (5/5): It was ok, for wat it was - The Spa facilities were very basic. Cooking utensils were the most basic.
- Jean-pierre (7/5): Good - Very accommodating with late check in due to delayed ferry. Coffee/tea/milk/sugar would have been awesome. No mobile network coverage. WiFi vouchers can only be purchased during office hours. We were late, so no wifi.
- Aria (7/5): Good - location wifi
- David (6/5): Snow trip - A peaceful place .
Location was only 20 minutes to whakapapa village our destination.for sight seeing and snowboarding. No WiFi.
- Panthiya (10/5): It is my first time of staying and it is just a worthy place to stay for people who come for Whakapapa ski field, but it - The place is cleaned and comfortable, the staffs are lovely and very kind. the wifi wasn’t reach to the room
- Andy (8/5): Very good -
- Vasantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Corneliu (5/5): Almost reasonably priced accommodation but not a good value for money. - We liked the location and the host family. Beds are not comfortable from our point of view. Cold in the winter. Beds come only with mattress protection so for sheets and blankets you need to pay extra unless you bring your own which is extremely inconvenient. You go on Holiday and pay an accommodation not to carry half of the house with you plus a heater and utensils etc. However, the host family was lovely and provided us with a heater plus welcomed us with a fairly warm room. We visited during winter(-5 degrees).
- Pia (7/5): Good - We liked the benchtops in the kitchen and the benches in the bathroom. We would have liked to have a table and a few chairs in the cabin.
No heated kitchen.
- Farrah (7/5): Very much camping (BYO everything) - Had bathroom, drying room, comfy bed, heater. Had to bring own bedding.
Had to bring own kitchen ware - bowls, cutlery etc. Lucky to have a fry pan there.
- Joel (9/5): Clean and comfy - Friendly staff, super comfortable bed, everything you need, clean and cheap. Will stay again when I can. No WiFi, but you can get some Starlink pretty cheap. The queen suite was great but after shower, condensation found it hard to escape.
- Bev (8/5): Very much adequate for our budget and length of stay. - Everything we needed, and if not provided, then this was clearly communicated beforehand (e.g. we chose basic rooms so were therefore required to bring our own sheets and blankets).... also it was clear that our accommodation included shared bathroom, shower, kitchen and laundry facilities.
The heating in the rooms was absolutely essential and worked really, really well for the camp's position and proximity to the mountains. This stay was a timely test as it was the first dusting of new snow on the nearby mountains and we were cosy warm throughout the night without being overheated... well equipped in this way. The rooms are not sound proof at all due to little or no insulation so the noise level is to be expected as other occupants move around during the night or get up really early in preparation for the Tongariro Shuttle... but the warmth of the rooms made up for this small inconvenience.
- Peisze (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gavin (7/5): Good -
- Madyson (8/5): Very good -
- Tucker (7/5): A very basic room for exploring the area. - It was a good location for exploring the park. the facilities were very basic, likely intended for campers looking for a break.
- Roberto (9/5): Great stay - If you are planning to do the Tongariro hikes, the location is just perfect. The staff is very friendly. The wifi was not free but not too expensive and it was even good enough to make some WhatsApp calls. Just make sure you don't watch too many videos and disable your cloud backups while there, otherwise you will end up consuming all of your prepaid data pretty fast. Nothing.
- Navdeep (6/5): Pleasant -
- Matthias (4/5): A lot missing - Close to alpine crossing
Nice structure No sheets. No towels. No cups. No plates. No cell phone. No WiFi-even when you buy it.
- Angela (9/5): Superb - You can't beat the location for doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, while also having easy access to Taupo and Whakapapa if you have a car. Amazing stargazing just outside the camp if you have clear nights. The room was comfortable and clean - what you would expect from a holiday park setting - and the shared kitchen is functional if a bit small for the number of people staying.
- Cassandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martyna (8/5): Very good - Facility was clean, there were no issues with queues for bathroom or kitchen. Big plus for a comfortable mattress - after long hike it's good to have a good place to rest :) Kitchen has stoves, microwave, toasters, electric kettles, fridge and some basic pots and pans - (almost) everything you need on your camping breakfast/dinner.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ceyhun (7/5): Good -
- Hanisa (10/5): Weekend near Tongariro Alpine Crossing - The location was close to the National Park. Place was clean
- Sian (5/5): No issues, room was fine - It was a nice peaceful area and was close to Tongariro crossing which is what i was there for. I didn't use any of the facilities basically just the room, it had a heater in there so was good to keep warm. Seemed to be pretty clean. Staff friendly, no issues really Location would suit some people but i would of preferred to stay closer to food places/gas station etc. I should of done a bit more research for what i was after but it was my first time in the area. The bed wasn't that comfortable but it was fine, very standard room and did the job. Wasn't great that there was no phone reception but they disclosed that when booking
- Aleksandra (10/5): Perfect place to stay close to the nature! - Location, friendly staff, good common kitchen, clean toilets and showers -
- Carol (8/5): Very good - Enjoyed the staff & location. Room was rather small.
- Michal (6/5): Pleasant - There was hot water and the restrooms were clean. There were no utensils- no knives, cups, plates. There is no service,so you have to use their wifi which is 10 dollars for 1 GB! The room is very basic, you also have to pay for bedding- 15 dollars pp! The washing machine only accepts coins. It was quite cold in common rooms.
- Apple (9/5): Superb -
- Lee (6/5): Pleasant -
- Damian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nian (7/5): Good - The toilet and shower are clean. This location provide transport direct to and back from Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Although there's heater in the room, but still freezing at night. Difficult to sleep
In addition, there's no utensils provided. Do bring your own utensils ya
- Co (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dishit (8/5): Very good -
- Brendon (8/5): Very good -
- Vieira (2/5): This place should no be available in booking website - Location The owner is not polite at all, kitchen was locked and with no glasses or cups, drying room was closed and it was said that we would be able to use it, all our clothes were wet next day.
- Jonathan (6/5): Pleasant -
