Guest Reviews
- MikeC3235 (10/5): Great for a Visit to York - The hotel is quite lovely, with antique furnishings and old world charm, in a very good location on the main street and close to all major attractions. The rooms are well set up, spacious, and very clean. The bed was huge and very comfortable, with nice soft sheeting. A pre-dinner drink on the balcony was very pleasant. As someone else has mentioned, there is no bar and the restaurant is closed, but there are plenty of places for a drink and a meal in York. The York Palace Hoel was a welcome relief after some of our outback hotel experiences. The price was reasonable. Being on the main street, there was some traffic noise with some locals obviously excited to knock of work for the day - BUT this would have been the same everywhere along the main road and it wasn't an issue. All in all, this is a very nice boutique hotel and is recommended.
- Phewshrewsbury (6/5): A big let down - Disappointing. The photos look great but the reality was a let down. It’s like a ghost hotel. No staff and no services. Self check in to our ‘Terrace’ room. We were allocated the end disabled room. It’s very large but there were issues with cleanliness ( well established cobwebs at ceiling, chair and floor level with accompanying live and dead insects) and tiny black insects scurrying around the tea and coffee counter which bore drink stains from prior use. This was an adapted room but presumably to counter poor drainage in the wet room, a piece of wood, now rotting and splintered, had been screwed into the floor between the shower area and the remainder of the wet room. Not sure how a wheelchair user would navigate that. Nowhere to put wash bags etc. A number of Terrace room appeared to be used by groups of workers. No idea if anyone was in the main building. It looked dead.
- FairGo77 (10/5): Clean quiet and friendly - I had a two day stay in the Terrace Rooms and it was just what I needed. Clean, spacious room with a large comfortable bed and a quiet area. Even better a generous host in Nola Bliss who ensured our stay ran smoothly and went the extra mile by permitting an earlier check in and accepting some flowers from the local florist for us before our arrival.
My only regret is that we did not get to meet Nola and thank her and we would not hesitate to book here again
- Kaykins99 (10/5): We will return to this lovely hotel - Our cycling group of 7 friends had a delightful stay in the terrace rooms of this hotel. Our ensuite rooms were large, clean, comfortable and equipped with everything we required. We could park our cars right outside our rooms. Our hosts were extremely helpful and accommodating . The hotel restaurant was unfortunately closed but we were able to walk around the corner where we had a great pub meal. The hotel was well situated with a supermarket nearby and all the tourist offerings of York within walking distance. We will definitely stay here again.
- C4533TKjohna (10/5): Good Accommodation in the heart of York - I stayed at the York as part of a road trip from Perth. The York is no longer a hotel and only provides accommodation. My room was spacious, cleaned and comfortable. The room has coffee and tea making facilities, a fridge and a good sized TV. The room had its own verandah where I could sit and watch the passerbys.
The hotel is in the centre of York and there are plenty of places to eat and drink within a couple of blocks of the York.
- Makem76 (10/5): Work stay - I’ve stayed at this establishment for a couple of years now , Nola the proprietor is very warm and welcoming.
Myself and my team stay in the terrace rooms, very spacious and clean and ample parking. The hotel is within walking distance to shops on the Main Street and is a great location.
- 84rochellej (10/5): Warm and Welcoming - We enjoyed 4 nights in a Heritage room at the hotel. The location was perfect for our needs for our daily treks around the surrounding areas as well as morning coffee and evening meal purchases. The room was spacious and very comfortable, having the added bonus of the verandah where we enjoyed chilled beverages and observed the quiet activities of the town life each evening. Our hosts were extremely pleasant and helpful but at the same time not intrusive in any way. We loved York. A friendly and welcoming town well worth visiting and if you are looking for a hotel with character and comfort then The York Palace won’t disappoint.
- simonbQ402HL (10/5): Perfect accommodation in York - The York Palace is a great motel on a road trip from Perth heading east. It was especially quiet being set just off the main street but still only a couple of minutes walk to the nearby restaurants and main tourist sights. Beds were comfy and we had a very nice stay.
- V4044OXmarkn (10/5): Beautiful place and Great hosts! - Love it! Nola, Richard and Saul are wonderful hosts!
We had made a booking for January but for personal reasons could not make it we had booked though Booking.com and by rights we could not change the date - Nola however was kind enough to let us choose a later date.
WE WILL BE BACK!
- MIKEL24 (10/5): Great WA country Accomadation - Visited York for a family wedding. Booked the terrace room effortlessly online, and was given prompt welcome, with instructions for key access and parking instructions.
The room was spotless with a king size bed and a large bathroom. I've stayed in many country WA hotels with my work over the years, and this was spot on. Wasn't concerned about no dining, as an easy walk to a choice of restaurants. Staff obliged with my requests immediately.
No hesitation to return.
- Trail05094709035 (10/5): Clean & Comfy!! - The rooms were extremely clean and the bed was super comfortable. Nice and cosy and easy to relax in.
Nola was absolutely lovely on the phone with great communication for Check- In.
We will 100% stay here again.
Thankyou so much Nola!
Definitely Recommend.
- samanthabrowning (8/5): Comfortable, would recommend. - We stayed here last Saturday night in a Terrace Room for an event nearby, within walking distance. Nola was incredibly helpful and friendly, quickly resolving a credit card booking issue.
Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a large ensuite and a pleasantly dark atmosphere for restful sleep.
We enjoyed relaxing in the outdoor seating area both in the afternoon and again on Sunday morning with coffee from the provided facilities. The outdoor seating area has no partitions between rooms, which didn’t bother us, and we enjoyed chatting with one of the other guests. :)
Convenient adjacent parking was a bonus.
We’d definitely stay here again on a future trip to York!
- S9202JSlindah (2/5): Disappointing for the price. Inaccurate website information. - The hotel does not have a restaurant, bar, garden courtyard as advertised in photos. On direct booking with manager this was still not disclosed. The direct access to guest carpark is shut off from hotel due to resident dog.
The private balcony is a shared area, no partitions for privacy.
The ensuite room we stayed in was spacious and clean and heritage styled.
- michellebW6545TS (10/5): Quiet, modern, comfortable and professional. - So impressed with the standard, comfort, location and cleanliness of our room (King terrace). Cherry on the top was the personal attention to our needs from Nola when booking. After being let down twice via air b&b, it was such a relief to talk to a professional who could manage our request for an overnight room on a busy night.
- O8796LXkerryc (10/5): Definitely worth a visit. - Large, clean rooms with nice outdoor area. It was a pleasure to do business with Nola who was very accommodating. A lovely town with lots to see, eg quirky little shops, yummy ice creams and loads of history. A great weekend was had by all our group of 10, who are all keen for a return visit.
- andreaaF9219BD (10/5): Perfect Heritage Charm - I stayed in the Lord Forrest room. Beautiful heritage charm. A very large room with a huge bathroom. This room looks onto the lovely spacious Verandah. We sat here from mid afternoon to evening enjoying this charming town and a wonderful view to the hills. Everything was very clean and tidy. Everything you need for a luxury stay including a coffee machine which was a nice added touch. The bed was very comfortable, and a choice of pillows. The lovely owner Nola made us feel very welcome and made sure that we had everything that we needed. I enjoyed this stay so much that I've booked to go back again. A beautiful location in a very charming town. Xx
- SuzanneC926 (2/5): Would give this no stars if I could! - We arrived at our accommodation to find our fridge not working, rang the number provided from our online reservation and was told by Nola that she knew the fridge wasn’t working and that a new one was coming though she wouldn’t provide a time for arrival, or a solution to our problem of needing a fridge for our few perishables. Very rude woman, my husband spoke to her on the phone and asked her if she could provide a bucket with ice. No, she said. My husband thought he had finished the call and put the phone on the front seat of the car. Nola inadvertently heard me swearing on the still active phone call.
Nola came straight out and approached me. “Are you the one who called me a blah blah blah” Yes I said but you must have overheard me when you were speaking to my husband. “You’re out” she says.
We ended up staying at the Imperial Homestead a beautiful old historical hotel.
Accomodation and service were wonderful. So was the food.
- SydneySally (8/5): Great position, very comfortable...would recommend - Stayed two nights with my husband in this lovely country town.
Hotel position really good, parking available and some nice country pubs a few minutes walk away.
Room was big (we stayed in the terrace), very comfortable, bed great.
Nice patio area to sit and have breakfast.
Took a point off as no wifi, otherwise fantastic
- G9773MVlindaf (8/5): Lovely room, with beautiful views - The room was fresh, clean and comfortable. We sat out on the balcony and the view was lovely and private. Nola, (the owner) was friendly and helpful. We loved out stay and look forward to staying again.
- 86brucep (10/5): Tricky Dicky and Nola - I stayed the night at The York Hotel last night. Nola had sent me an extensive text message explaining how to find my key and my room. I was early and Nola texted me again to say I could use my room. I struggle a bit to understand instructions so I wandered in to what turned out to be their extraordinary antiques business. This strange friendly little fellow approached me and started chatting. To cut a long banter short, he was Tricky Dicky, the owner. At least he was part of the ownership team along with Nola, who is much more normal. I had the loveliest evening with them! They befriended me and helped me get my bearings. They invited me to their balcony and gave me beer and crisps that were only 6 months out of date. We chatted and laughed while their nutty dog barked at the locals frequenting the IPA opposite. Nola tried to have me stay for dinner but I was too tired. She gave me a plate and cutlery so that I didn't have to eat my sweet and sour takeaway with my grubby fingers. My Terrace room was immaculate and palatial compared to many I have sampled. I read some of the other reviews and they made me cross. It must be a nightmare running guest houses in rural Oz. Dicky and Nola were so absoltuely beautiful to me that I was moved to write something down. If I could give the place 6 stars I would. Not because it is the Ritz, but because Nola and Dicky were so wonderful and kind and that needs to be recognised. York Writing Festival was fun too but my memories will be for those 2 fabulius human beings and their bonkers dog. Go see for yourself. Thanks again you too. Made me proud to be a homo sapien.
- vicki350 (10/5): Overnight In York - Ground floor modern accommodation in the Terrace rooms, self check in, location and car parking at this hotel was excellent. Next time I visit I would love to stay in the Heritage rooms to get a sense of the history of the hotel. Saul, the manager was helpful and friendly. The bar and restaurant were no longer working however there were various eating establishments a very short walking distance around the corner in the main Street.
- 319janies (10/5): York Comfort - A wonderful place to rest, yes it’s old but very comfortable, close to shops and walking distance to cafes and pubs. You can walk around town and enjoy the sites. Unfortunately there is no restaurant but you are only a few minutes away from places to eat at. The owners are wonderful people and very helpful, we walked to Favesham House for breakfast which was well worth the money. Service was wonderful. We will definitely stay again when up this way. Thank you again
- J0hn0C (6/5): Old World - Rather old accommodation. Good comfortable bed. Stayed 2 nights no daily servicing. New vet clinic built across the road large floodlight shines in all night long. Did not sleep so good. I did not see any other cars in the carpark. I don't think to many people stay here. Terrible town for food
- Chizzel (8/5): Served the purpose - We were in York to visit friends who lived nearby and chose this accommodation mainly due to the close proximity to their house. It was reasonable especially for the price. We stayed in the rooms that weren't attached to the main hotel. It was quiet and served us well, which was really only to sleep overnight.
The bed was comfortable although the air conditioning wasn't too good as I had to sleep without sheets or blanket as it was a bit hot inside the room despite the AC being on.
There was lots of parking available and would definitely choose this again, if we revisit.
- KeenPhotographer-11 (10/5): Excellent Customer Service - Due to WA Covid border closures, I had to cancel a stay here and the hotel owner then went out of her way to fully assist me getting a total refund from a 3rd party.
My daughter lives in Perth and she routinely tells me this is the best place to stay in York.
The next time that I visit the area, I will definitely be staying at this business. Others should also consider choosing this professionally run hotel.
- Steph (10/5): Spacious Room! - Absolutely perfect location!
Very quiet, and very comfortable big room.
- Warren (10/5): - Went for the YORK Cup.Great old pub in good location.Nola was very helpful
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We liked the food and the room ample parking very quiet..
Little over priced no service to the room and refused to heat a small meal in the microwave for us..as there is no facility here...just not accommodating
- Janice (10/5): - We had a very enjoyable stay. Room was spacious and clean. The food in the dining room was superb. Staff very friendly. Will come back.
- Margaret (6/5): York weekend. - As we booked a heritage room we expected it to be in the main part of the hotel but instead we were put in the motel section. Everything was okay but expensive for what it was.
Alice's restaurant (part of the hotel) was excellent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): The Owner - Nola made me feel very welcome as I was on my own for two nights.
After a cold day standing at a display stand at the Dowerin Field day, when I finally arrived the 1 hour and fifteen minutes drive time back to the Hotel I was met by Nola who suggested I have a scotch to ward off the chill.
Excellent advise !!!
- ian (10/5): - Right in the heart of the town. Had a lovely, tasty. evening meal in the restaurant. Very comfortable room upstairs with the benefits of a normal reverse cycle air conditioner and a gas burner in the fireplace which added to our romantic interlude. All round first class
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful accommodation. Max is the lovely dog. - Foodies like me will be in heaven as you are convinently located near some of the loveliest eateries. Yum. The hotel is lovely and a short wall to my fav place the bottlo for that emergency beverage that is a must when sitting on the balcony on a crisp winters night admiring the night sky.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice and friendly
- Spike (8/5): - Good location, good food, good service, shame they didn't open for breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a lovely stay , the hotel meals were exceptional for a country 'pub', only 2 whinges , 1. I booked on my phone and thought I was getting one of the historic rooms , no biggy but would have preffered this type of room , and 2 , the hotel doesn't offer breakfast , ate elsewhere
- Amber (10/5): Perfect weekend getaway - We came to York for the first time for a friends wedding. We booked into the Palace not really expecting too much. It far surpassed our expectations! The cleanliness and room facilities were 10/10 and the location perfect. Alice was a great host and made us feel very welcome. We would defiantly stay here again if we ever needed to visit York again.
- Ellie (10/5): Pleasant staff and good experience - Staff were all very friendly (especially Nola), room was very comfortable - and we loved the hotel "mascot" - Max the dog! Food in the restaurant was FABULOUS - beautifully presented and very generous servings, too. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nothing more to say except that the restaurant was good
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A wonderful place to stay for a night in beautiful York.
Clean and comfy. Perfectly positioned.
Friendly staff. Lovely restaurant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel situated in the heart of York - Had a very enjoyable stay with very friendly staff
- David (10/5): Best in York - Lovely old hotel full of character and charm
Dinner in the restraint is a must as it's the best in town.
- Alann (10/5): Overnighter in York - Loved our stay, lovely host in Nola, very welcoming, so was her friendly dog! Food in restaurant was delicious, could've eaten another plate of beef cheeks! Bed was too hard for my back though as I do have a back problem, wife had no issue. Room very clean and spacious, has tea/coffee facilities and small fridge, just right for our short stay, we booked in terrace room. All in all very nice stay in your hotel and York as a town is a nice place to visit with friendly locals and historic and interesting places to visit. Missed Nola on checkout but just as lovely husband saw us out. Thanks again.
- Marguerite (10/5): Confortable stay in a lovely heritage town. - This hotel was very comfortable. Our room was large with a king size bed with lovely bed lined. Very well presented and well above the WA standard. The restaurant attached to the hotel was excellent.
- Lyn (10/5): Lovely units in Historic York - We stayed in new terrace units not the old hotel (picture on wotif showed us a huge bedroom in the old hotel). The Manager was a lady called Nola and she was fantastic - welcoming and lovely. She really looked after us. Room was lovely and clean & spacious and very comfortable. Would have loved to have more time to spend in beautiful York. We will definitely be back for a lengthy stay in the future. Nola recommended the Chinese Restaurant next door and the food was cheap and to die for. We had takeaway and the serving sizes were huge. The best Chinese food we have had and no MSG.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely hotel, but beware the low season - I didn't realise January was the low season. The hotel was closed, but we stayed in a motel room out the back, but we were the only ones there so i felt a bit alone.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Country hospitality - Alex couldn't be more helpful and made our stay a pleasant one. country hospitality and courtesy is alive and well in York.
- Sharon (10/5): Historic and superb Stay a must - Loved the ambiance and history of the hotel....service was fantastic and Nola and staff run a fantastic restaurant where service is outstanding food amazing and very generous servings....we will be back :)
- Robyn (8/5): Great location in the centre of town - Plenty of parking outside our room. Modern, clean room with good facilities.
You need to be mindful when booking that you will not be staying in a lovely historical building as it appears.
I thought I was booking a night in the old Palace Hotel but the rooms are actually motel units at the back of the property.
Nice rooms but absolutely nothing like we had expected so a little disappointed.
This could have been a mistake on my part,at the time of booking I could see no information indicating that we would not be staying in the historic property.
- Kylie (4/5): Expensive and unclean - The room was unclean, the bed was as hard a rock, and the wifi did not work down in the rooms. Since the restaurant is not open for breakfast I would have at least expected a toaster in my room, but there was nothing but a fridge & a kettle. There are other accommodations in York, that are much cheaper and cleaner and with better facilities, unfortunately this was the only hotel available and for $195 a night I would have expected better. The pumpkin risotto I ordered for dinner was overpriced and under cooked, and very average tasting. I will say the staff were gorgeous very friendly.
- T and M (10/5): Very good hotel with traditional quality - Stayed in the main hotel building as we wanted to experience the old hotel. Facilities and staff both excellent, and I will stay here again.
- julie (4/5): Motel type accommodation - The web site gave the impression that we would be staying within the original hotel but when we arrived the owner told us that they were going to stay in Perth that night and we were given a key to the motel type room in the car park area behind the original hotel. We were told to leave the key in our room the next day when we left. The restaurant was of course closed for the night as it seems everything else in the small town was as well. We did find a place open but the food was awful.
Our room had cobwebs around the place other than that it was acceptable for the money.
- Mike (8/5): Good hotel in historic street - We had to pick up key at nearby liquor store. Our room was in a modern block behind the heritage hotel building. Unfortunately we stayed there mid-week, so the hotel restaurant and bar were closed, which meant we couldn't really appreciate the main hotel building. Our room was very nice with quality fittings. A full size fridge was provided. The free WiFi was available only in or just outside the hotel building which was a little awkward because the building was locked. There didn't appear to be any guests staying in the main hotel building.
- Gordon (8/5): - Good hotel in a great location with access to the balcony. We had dinner and breakfast and both meals were excellent.
- Geoff (6/5): Don't stay here on a long weekend - We stayed on the Sunday and Monday nights of a long weekend and were disappointed to find the hotel effectively closed with no breakfast, lunch or dinner available and the room was not serviced. I had chosen the hotel mainly because of good reviews for the food but was unable to try it.
- William (10/5): - Nola, great host and made us feel at home. Great ambience , fine dining.
- Tony (8/5): Weekend 50th birthday celebration with friends - A good place to stay right in the middle of town.
Easy walking distance to all shops in the main street. There is plenty of parking and the units are modern and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Good to relax in a laid back but modern country town.
- judy (10/5): Surprise ! - The room was extremely well decorated and very comfortable! Great location to walk and take in the Main Street. The staff were welcoming and the food was delicious! I loved Max the boss he really made me feel welcome!
- Shay (6/5): - Room was lovely, the highlights being a very comfy king size bed and a hot shower with great water pressure. The description on wotif is completely wrong. The bar is not open and neither was the restaurant when I stayed. I had to wander around til I found someone to check in. There was no bath tub in the room which was one of the big reasons for booking there. Perhaps check the hotels own website for more accurate information before booking.
- Jenny (8/5): Great position and right in town. - The rooms are very spacious and clean and it was lovely to have an air conditioner.
- Michael (8/5): -

- Hilary (10/5): - Facilities: Home away from home; Value: Affordable; Service: Professional, Friendly, Courteous; Cleanliness: Spotless;
- Mary (4/5): - Facilities: Bare minimum, Grey grey grey soul-less ; Value: Outrageous price, Excessive, Exorbitant; Service: Inferior, What service ?????; Cleanliness: Pleasant;
Can't open curtains as it faces path/road so everyone can see in-had to sit in grey room with light on. $170 for that - shame on you
- sangeri (10/5): -
right in the middle of the town yet tugged away from noise
- Peter (8/5): - Facilities: Basic; Value: Average price; Service: Sufficient; Cleanliness: Clean;
Rooms lack several basics, eg extra blanket, soap dish in shower, hairdryer, iron, etc.
