Guest Reviews
- Tanya (5/5): - The outside gardens were beautiful with lots of established trees. The TV and aircon work. The scenery from the internal window was beautiful. The room was very small and tight, no space for luggage. Carpark was mostly at the back of the hotel with no direct access. In the room everything is basic, no microwave. No body wash just a soap.
- Victoria (7/5): Comfortable room, good service comfie beds and loved the grounds -
- Nicole (7/5): it was very nice the bed was comfortable and location was great - check in was good we arrived in very heavy rain and when we entered our room there was water coming in through the aircon the rain was very heavy and it was obvious that it was only the sheer volume that caused the water to enter the room we were quickly and easily transferred to another room. The restaurant was nice and a great meal, will stay there again. the room was very tight but comfortable
- Jan (7/5): Pleasant and well presented, comfortable accommodation - Lovely setting, spacious and comfortable rooms. Plenty of amenity for those who chose not to wander too far e.g. coffee shop, restaurant, swimming pool, gift shop and extensive grounds. I guess having an onsite coffee shop lowers the quality of the tea and coffee offering in the rooms which is circa 1975, ie less than great
- Nicolas (7/5): We love Beechworth and this is the best place we have stayed so far. - It was a bed and I could lie down in it Wish the restaurant had been open.
- Joanne (8/5): Very comfortable - Ambience and location Shower was a bit weird
- Janeen (4/5): - Location ok if you have your own transport Room was very small & poky. No room to walk around two sides of bed. No bedside table on one side. Only one primitive hard wooden chair. Limited working space for making tea & coffee, only top of frig. No space for case storage. The one evening meal we had was only average. Taps in shower not easy to control. Sliding door into bathroom was very poor.
- Samantha (10/5): Excellent Service, amazing location - As I arrived, I was welcomed so kindly by Loki. My room was pre-heated as it was a very cold evening. So lovely after a long drive. The bed was super comfy, the grounds at Mayday Hills are amazing and worth exploring. There is ample parking plus a restaurant. As a solo female traveller I felt safe. I will definitely be back! I liked everything
- Felix (10/5): - Its location in a huge park- the staff were very helpful , especially Loki.
- Amelia (9/5): -
- Ian (10/5): Excellent venue, in a great location with friendly and helpful staff - Location and ambience in the park Nil
- Barbara (5/5): Ok - Beautiful gardens and trees. I didn’t like that it was close to the asylum. And the history of the hotel is spooky.
- Marie (9/5): -
- Phuoc Minh (10/5): Love The Grand Oaks - Nice and quiet place and also everything is clean. We love the place and enjoy, nice views, definitely we'll come back. None
- Jake (10/5): - Loki was amazing, his customer service was exceptional. everything was explained and was accessable

- Scott (10/5): Location - A lovely place to stay The environment
- Ryan (8/5): A beautiful property with great rooms, but poor communication and lack of service let the experience down. - The room was incredibly spacious. almost cavernous and felt luxurious. Beautiful fixtures and furnishings throughout. The bathroom was a standout. The bed was extremely comfortable No formal check-in due to the public holiday, which made the arrival feel unclear. Minimal staff interaction, and when we did see staff it often felt like they didn’t know who we were or why we were there. The pool was out of service, not disclosed at booking and only communicated weeks later via email. No gesture of goodwill despite reduced amenities. Overall experience felt impersonal and lacking direction.
- James (8/5): -
- Tina (8/5): Nice place - Well maintained No staff in the evenings
- Brett (9/5): Pleasant - Lovely grounds Our room was a little tight on one side of bed area to get around. Plumbing a little noisey
- Nada (8/5): -
- Felix (10/5): We enjoyed it immensely. We intend to return. May I suggest a transport arrangement where people arriving by bus might b - The position in the middle of a huge park like area was very congenial. The larger room is very well appointed and comfortable. The food was very good. The staff , particularly Loki and Eliza, were most helpful. Nothing!
- Annie (10/5): -

- Sarah (5/5): Basic comfortable accommodation - The beautiful tall trees all around, considerate effort to gardens and outdoor area, thoughtful attention to restaurant decor. The decor/furnishings were inconsistent in quality. Some decor details in common area were lovely while others felt cheap; such as very thin towels and other toiletries. There was also an outdoor light permanently on outside my window and curtains were unable to block the light. The menu read well but food was average. Desert was yummy.
- Robyn (10/5): Excellent, comfortable, quiet, clean, comfortable and great staff. - Beautiful surroundings and friendly, professional staff.
- Arthur (9/5): -
- Mensah (5/5): Outdated - The location and building is gorgeous! The room is outdated, and small. The two tiny bars of soap, one packet of shampoo, and conditioner in the room look cheap. For the price, it was not worth it.
- Chris (5/5): Everything seemed to be broken no notice that restaurant was closed - Location and staff Resturant not open , pool not clean , no gas in bar so only bottle beer.

- James (7/5): - The grounds at The Grand Oaks are absolutely stunning — beautifully maintained and a real highlight of the property. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and the reception area and bar were lovely, with tasteful décor that gives a great first impression.
The bathroom setup was good: the toilet area was a nice size and very clean, and the separate shower room was also clean and well‑kept. There were a few areas that could use some attention. Some of the hallway carpet was starting to wrinkle and bunch, which made it look a little tired. Our hotel room itself was clean and very spacious, but it looked like it could benefit from a fresh coat of paint. We were grateful for the air‑conditioning, as the room became quite cold without it.
However, the carpet just outside the shower extended a few centimetres past the doorway, and when touched, it was wet from the shower water. This is something the hotel may want to address to prevent dampness or potential mold issues in the carpet over time.
Overall, The Grand Oaks has beautiful grounds, lovely staff, and a charming reception area, but a few maintenance updates especially around carpets and room finishes would really elevate the guest experience.

- Bronwyn (8/5): -
- Pam (10/5): Lovely ambiance and comfortable. - The location down an avenue of oaks is beautiful. Staff were very good, helpful and friendly. The meals I had, I enjoyed. The ambience of this hotel is very special especially at this time of the year. A larger carparking area, close to the entry would be more helpful.
- Jason (7/5): -
- michelle (4/5): - The location The shower needed a good scrub as did the corrugated bedside table. The pool water was also not clear or clean
- Megan (2/5): I would not stay there again - Its position The rude reception staff
- Michelle (10/5): - Beautiful area. So pretty. Room was really nice and clean. Well presented.
Staff were great - friendly and efficient.
Bar area and outdoor area are just lovely.
I would go back tomorrow if I could. Only thing I would point out to future travellers that it is an uphill walk from town. Not real far - but just in case of mobility/respiratory issues.
- Donna (10/5): Relaxing - Cleanliness, comfortable bed and great shower
- Maggie (6/5): Uncomfortable stay update needed - The building and surrounding gardens were lovely but could do with an update. The beds were extremely lumpy and hard. The pillows weren't much better. The restaurant was not open, the bar closed at 5.30pm.
- William (10/5): - Very comfortable hotel that suited us perfectly
- Dean (9/5): Stress free peaceful stay - Nice quiet location Nothing
- Wendy (10/5): -
- Shane (8/5): -

- Dayana (9/5): It was very Comfortable, clean and inviting. - The Grand Oaks was so close to town, the rooms were so clean and comfortable, the staff were super friendly and helpful and the history of the oaks and its surroundings is amazing.
- Kayleen (10/5): It was a great place to spend our 50th wedding anniversary. - We liked that it had it’s own restaurant. We couldn’t fault anything.
- Colin (10/5): Nice place - Great staff and great rooms
- Terry (3/5): Rooms too small and needing refurbishment. - Na Facilities being open ie restaurant and bar
- Kelly (8/5): - The breakfast was limited but for the price it was good. Our fridge was ordinary.
- Janik (5/5): Wouldn’t stay again - Aesthetically pleasing building Extremely small room
Swimming pool was dirty and obviously not maintained
- Helen (8/5): Enjoyable overnighter. - Staff member efficient considering he was covering a number of duties. Clean room with a comfortable bed. Property appearance and surrounds. Room lacked space for suitcases.
- Vicki Shamae (7/5): Good accommodation option in lovely surroundings - The area is beautiful and close to town. The hotel has a lovely ambience. The continental breakfast was great and good value for money. The window, particularly the windowsill, was filthy. The TV was very awkward to use. The room servicing was inconsistent. I stayed 4 days and some days the bed was fully made up and others it was partially made up. The tea, coffee, milk and biscuits were not replenished the entire time I was there. The restaurant didn't open on our first night but when it did, 4 of us were not welcome to eat there as the chef was new and the bookings were extremely limited despite mostly empty tables!
- Maxine (9/5): Nice clean convenient - Location - up at Mayday. Perfect for the art show I attended I only stayed one night

- paul (6/5): Shame about the security lights beaming in the window - Price was good . Liked the area . Room was adequate for my use . Pool was convenient . Very quiet area. security light shone in my room like a beacon for the first 2 nights of my 3 night stay !! My room was like daylight at 3am in the morning resulting in very poor sleep quality for the first 2 nights . Unable to shift me for the second night . The last night in my new room slept very well. The mattress and pillows in the room were actually excellent so a real shame that I had 2 nights sleep destroyed when I had 5 hour bike rides both days following and critical I got great sleep. The reaction when I brought this up was quote . 'no one has ever complained about this before' Very frustrating and really a waste of money for 2 of the 3 nights . Bar and restaurant were not open on any of the 3 nights I stayed and reception closed very early as well . This was inconvenient night one as my car was at the other end of the trail and after a 104km ride I needed to walk into town and back up the hill and more than half the restaurants in town were also closed on the monday night..
- Shelley (4/5): - Chef sick. No replacement so no meals.
- Graham (8/5): - The pool and surroundings were lovely. The resort is beautifully laid out. The rooms were very small but had all you needed. We found the bed a bit uncomfortable but that was only our opinion. Internet went down on our second night and didn't come back on.
- Steve (9/5): - Great grounds very quiet brilliant trees
- Phillip (10/5): -
- Solin (9/5): Scenic hotel close to Beechworth - Staff -excellent customer service
Resturant delish
Beautifully decorated hotel
Location is handy
Lovely surroundings Leafy and green. Soap rather than body wash So bring own body wash.
- MARIE (10/5): Excellent accommodation, great value, lovely grounds. - The grounds of the hotel are leafy and beautiful it really presents as grand. The hotel is lovely and quiet, excellent value for money with everything we needed for two overnight stays en route to Melbourne. I should have packed a swimsuit, the pool looks great. Nothing at all.
- Jenny (9/5): - Lovely surrounds, great pool Double room clean, comfortable bed. But room rather small for couple with large luggage.
- Vincent (7/5): -
- Rosemary kennedy (7/5): Nice except the size of bed could not get any sleep - The beds were double and very small for two adults and the doona too warm. The bed side tables were inadequate as one was just a chair! See above
- Amanda (10/5): -
- SOPHIE (6/5): -
- Elaine (6/5): it was OK but will probably not stay there again in the future - bed was comfortable and the room was clean Location was a bit too far away from the main street, shower was not great. Parking was a pain could not get close to the room
- Paul (5/5): Only enjoyed being outside in the grounds on the hilltop - Room was disappointingly small. As above.
No terrace.
- Alia (6/5): - Very manageable 15-20 min walk into town. Staff polite. The double room is super basic, but that's all you're paying for, really. Showers quite large. There's a reason the dining room is always empty.
- Eleanor (7/5): -
- Emily (8/5): Lovely location and comfortable room for a weekend getaway. Quiet and relaxing - Lovely gardens. Comfortable bed and friendly helpful staff. Close to town.
- Jack (8/5): -
- Steve (9/5): -
- darren (8/5): Picturesque - Setting Toilet noises after flushing
- Emily (3/5): Lacks cleanliness - Location is nice. Amenity of restaurant and pool is good. Our room and linen was unclean. We didn't receive the cot we requested then after asking we were handed a portacot to set up ourselves and no linen. It was very unclean and broken and I didn't sleep my baby in it.
Lots of bugs (crickets) and multiple spiders in room.
A used towel hanging in bathroom.
Clean towels from bed appeared unclean.
Ball of hair in bed linen (not ours).
- Blythe (8/5): better than some we have stayed in. The ironing board sufficed for opening our luggage. - Breakfast was good value. No safety whatsits in the shower recess, e.g. grab rails no brochures to see/check out the town. No information in the room about the location and premises . TV was not quite mastered.
- Deana (9/5): Great place to stay and very friendly staff. - Close to be where we wanted to be.
- Joanne (10/5): -
- tanya (7/5): Clean and affordable with close proximity to town - Location and swimming pool.
Small cosy rooms but it was ok for what we wanted. We were only in the rooms to sleep Restaurant had limited hours and the only they were open to dine in for dinner, the menu was presented but everything we wanted to order wasn’t available that day. We tried 4 different options. In the end we left and went into town to find somewhere to eat.
- Mike (9/5): We were amazed at the beautiful setting among the lovely old oak trees, it looked so luxurious that - Breakfast was good and it was so handy have breakfast in the peaceful setting of the hotel Our room was a bit on the small side so we will definitely book the larger room next time
- Jaydein (2/5): - -Tv in room had no sound
-Shower had low pressure toilet seat slides
-Pool was not clean I spent an hour cleaning before we got to swim
-power was out which was un avoidable although the service was appalling only thing they were willing to do was keep the atm machine so they could charge people in 40* heat for drinks
-when I initiated that we needed to move onto the next town due to my partner being pregnant and struggling with the heat I was informed by staff that’s what you get in Australia while travelling
Very disappointed with the stay
- Annette (5/5): As it was one night, that was fine, but no-one at desk when I went to talk to staff. - The pool was nice to swim in, however it needed a clean in the morning. Didn't like the smell in the room.
Side door to pool was locked and couldn't get in to building, should be kept unlocked until evening.
- Wise (8/5): -
- Kathleen (7/5): - Room was spacious and well appointed . Bathroom was split in two with shower in one area everything else in a different area. Toiletries were top end. Everything worked well. Set in beautiful old gardens with huge trees. Parking is at some distance from rooms for carrying luggage too and from. Some distance from town centre.
- Sharon (6/5): Very pleasant - staff terrific - beautiful surroundings and great walking and cycling opportunities - The room was very comfortable with modern blinds and curtains - the air con worked well and the pool was lovely on the one time we used it. Digital tv fab. Missed a toaster.
- Louise (8/5): -
- Brent (9/5): Extremely pleasant. Just disapointed in the size of our room. - Location was magnificent. Didnt have breakfast Just felt very confined in our room. No room to move far too small
