Guest Reviews
- Jeana (2/5): - not clean everything was sticky. did not enjoy my time
- Max (10/5): - Lovely place
- Andy (6/5): - Quiet, comfy bed. Small room, no tv or bathroom inside room. Communal bathroom/toilet. Great bar and restaurant- try the steak!
- Jacob (6/5): - The room provided does not match what is shown in the photos online. The room has not been renovated at all and remains in a below average condition, with things like torn carpets and dirty fans. The bed was clean but do not expect much - the price is fair for what you are given.
- David (6/5): - It was hard to find the place, not very well lit up. Did not know it was attached to the Pub & bottle shop. Bathrooms need a proper door, especially the shower for the women. The meals were big, enough for 2 people.
- David (2/5): - The accommodation was substandard dirty, no screens, door to balcony stuck and no curtins in the room - the place totally misrepresented its facility on Wotif.
- Paul (10/5): - Reviews were bad that I read.
We loved it..the staff were friendly and the rooms were clean and had views of Tin Can Bay…being a surfer I liked the pictures on the walls of my room..we had front rooms that entered onto a balcony and lovely sea air coming in..I would definitely stay there again
- warren (6/5): - It was ok . Wouldn't stay again as I like a lot more upmarket. But as it says backpacker. Good for some but not for me
- Natalie (2/5): - Disgusting. The smoke alarm in my room beeped non stop. Walked around to get assistance - no one around the whole place locked up. Rang number - goes to message bank. Ended up having to sleep in my car. Emailed to complain and ask for a refund which was ignored. The place itself was filthy and stank. Very unclean - the shared kitchen was absolute filth with food dried up on the floor. The only time you would appreciate this place would be when the only alternative was sleeping in a gutter. Avoid avoid
- Martin (6/5): - Staff were very friendly and gave assistance without being asked.
Be aware their is no air conditioning in rooms.
Restaurant seemed popular, but I visited friends.
Needs better signage re name Backpackers. And street Number 12-16
Good value for rates charged.
- Brett (4/5): - Very basic accommodation - poor condition of room and carpet and blinds, not to mention very noisy.
- Sven (6/5): Pour le prix - Le prix est bas donc nous ne nous attendions pas à quelque chose d’incroyable. Suffisant pour une nuit.
Chambres très bruyantes, et lit pas très confortable.
- Francies (8/5): - Beautiful service great food privacy
- Marie (4/5): - We booked this Accommodation even after reading all the terrible reviews. Don't be fooled, it really is as bad as the reviews make it out to be. We booked a 3-night stay as we wanted to save some money on adventures.
We don't mind budget accommodation. But it was very dirty. We saw a cleaner come in every morning, but I'm not sure what she was doing. The bathrooms were disgusting, I showered without touching anything. The bedroom was awful, with holes in the carpet, dusty, and had not seen a vacuum in a very long time. There was a sink in the corner of our room that had not even been wiped out. I had to wipe all the sides before we could unpack anything. We didn't use the communal kitchen- not even for water from the tap.
The bedding and towels were clean which is the only reason we managed to stay, otherwise, we would have slept in the car.
There is no aircon and the fan sounds like a helicopter is about to take off.
The only saving grace is that the staff was lovely and the restaurant food was amazing.
- lawrence (2/5): Halfway Horror House from Hell... - Halfway Horror House from Hell...
It was an experience, a down right dirty one.
The accommodation boasted stained everything, cockroach covered floors and a fridge that required a bio hazard suit to go anywhere near it.
The environment felt unsafe and gave somewhat a feel of a horror movie.
Budget and basic is fine but the sanitary conditions were far from acceptable.
- Lisa (4/5): - I stayed in budget accommodation without an ensuite. My tv was broken, the bedroom basin had not been cleaned, there was drip marks all down the wall from someone previously throwing a drink at the wall. The curtains were damaged, and the staff were not very friendly or nice. I didnt mind the kitchen and amenities, I would not stay here again. The ladies bathroom toilet leaked, bad, and the tap to wash your hands would not turn off. Wasting water constantly. The staff turn on the vacuum down stairs at 6am, with no regard to people sleeping up stairs. All over, I was desperate for accommodation for 3 nights. I would not recommend staying longer then 1. Im not someone who normally complains or writes bad reviews but, this place is old and needs alot of work, and new staff who actually take pride in their work.
- Hana (6/5): - It was ok stay, not that loud as i was expecting from another reviews.
- Nadya (4/5): - Room did not have any fans, balcony door doesn’t stay opened. Blinds broken. In shared bathroom there was Water on the floor all the time. Tap was running all the time and wasting water. Some Camping shared bathroom event better than the facility in this accommodation.
- Russell (8/5): - GREAT Value for money.
- Christine (4/5): - The staff & meals were great .
The room had no tv the dust on cabinet was a inch thick bed was great blinds didn't work
- Hai (6/5): - Bed room & bath room are ok, but kichen is a bit dirty.
- Peter (6/5): - The staff were very welcoming.
- Jason (8/5): - Was good place to stay,.
Thanks,.
- Darcy (4/5): - Shouldnt be called a backpackers or budget accomodation. There are no backpackers staying there. Only very drunk old guys from the pub are staying there. Yelling and slamming doors all day & night.
- Belinda (2/5): - Arrived about 10:50pm (after they were informed we will be there at that time), there was no staff for after hours, wouldn’t answer phone. Won’t recommend this accommodation to anyone
- Renata (6/5): - Nice and close to beach. Pity the room smelt like urine. Staff were very frazzled and busy. Kept waiting to check in, quoted Sorrento price and had to prove Wotif price to staff member and no one around to check us out the next day. Got told by a staff member to “just give her the key because she has to clean it anyway”. Asked said staff member about breakfast and were told to eat at the bakery even though they have a restaurant???
- Colin (6/5): - happy with the property the TV didn't work in the bedroom and none of the staff new how to operate it
- Amanda (10/5): - Fantastic accommodation. High recommend. All staff we’re wonderful, went above and beyond. Thank you so much.
- Peter (8/5): Cheap with no frills accommodation - No frills hotel with cheap accommodation. The room was comfortable with access to a common balcony. The kitchen area was very limiting. The food at the restaurant was good. Ok for a quick cheap stay.
- Wendy (6/5): - It is what it is, low-budget backpacker accommodation, but it was all that was available. Although pretty spartan it was clean and served the purpose of a bed for the night.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - For what it was, (budget), it was ok.
The web site image and description needs to be updated.
The facilities were old and not well maintained, but clean and tidy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean cheap room water in shared toilet/shower had no pressure when there though
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff and amenities were great, the restaurant was fabulous. The family room is in dire need of an upgrade.
- Noel (4/5): - Air con didn't work loooks like it hadn't for a long time. Old square box one. Couldn't sleep as room was so hot. Need maintenance done to make it ok. Restrauant food was very good.
- Brian (6/5): - Bit rough. Smashed glass door to verandah with perspex taped to outside but broken glass still on inside. Could not open door and no windows in room. Too hot and stuffy.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Last option accomodation , extremely budget.
Maintenance required.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Needs screen door so door can be left open to let air in or hook to secure door
Needs hook on wall to hang clothes
Tv size of laptop
Needs small table or bag holder to keep stuff off floor
Maybe a small bar fridge would be good or even tea and coffee station as shared kitchen scary
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very noisy, couldn’t sleep. Shared kitchen all cups were dirty
- Bill (8/5): - Older accommodation above a pub.
Really clean and comfortable room but no reading lights, fans or a/c. Would be hot in summer.
Communal bathroom was really clean but water pressure for showers was almost non-existent, and water dribbled out.
Good value and I enjoyed my stay
- Mark (4/5): - I have traveled around the world occasionally using so called backpacker accommodation and have never set my expectations too high, after all it is budget. however given that this cost 80 AUS one could be expected to get something reasonable. Threadbare carpet, broken TV, shades that don't function, a bed mattress that one would find on the pavement awaiting collection, broken toilet seats in both cubicles, showers that only produce a moderate flow and a generator that kicks in every 20 mins or so and you have an example of a very poor value stay indeed. Staff were fine but this covers up the cracks of a hostel who's best days are far behind it.
- Nukeleon21 (8/5): - Good location , only 4 minutes from Dolphins cafe
- Mae (6/5): - Room not that clean...carpet needs cleaning...shower head dirty...easy to check in and check out though.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - As a backpacker living out of the car for weeks this hotel was a nice upgrade for me, we had a nice bed a full kitchen and a warm shower I couldn’t complain.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Could really do with a bit of tidying up/renovating as the sink in the room was falling off the wall and rust stained but still for the price a decent place for the night.
Bed was comfortable and being above the pub, was actually pretty quite and easy to get a good nights sleep
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was expected for budget accom. However the guest next to us continually left the door open so he could go in and out all night and kept letting the door slam against the object propped to keep open which kept waking us.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We didnt stay. Checked the room and facilities before hand. Didnt like what we saw.
- Amber (10/5): - Great place to stay. Very clean, quiet, comfortable.
Only downfall was that the fan in the room wouldn’t work. It was a bit too hot to sleep.
- Dawn (10/5): - Great place to stay.
Very clean, quiet, comfortable and affordable.
Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It's very basic accommodation. Staying at a backpacker pub but it's on the highest part of Tin Can Bay so you get good views from the balcony. The pub meals were good.
- Bill (4/5): - Friendly staff, good restaurant and bar, great location, clean room. But do NOT expect to get any sleep. There is a compressor that slams on violently, then sounds like its about to throw a rod as it reverberates through the building. This kicks on, runs for 7-8 minutes, off for maybe 3 minutes, slams back on, and repeats endlessly. Worst night of accommodation I’ve had in recent memory.
