R_U_Going (10/5): A home away from home, with the trimmings. - Stayed overnight here on our NZ holiday. The owners were super friendly and obliging. Our 2-bedroom accommodation was an upstairs apartment attached (but separate) to the main house. Owners gave us tips on local sites and getting private access to the beach a short walk away, to beach-comb for jade stones. The apartment was beautifully appointed and supplied with more than we’d hoped for, including special treats. We could have stayed longer but the next step of our journey beckoned. Would definitely recommend.

Lynsey and Paul are charming hosts who made us feel very welcome in their lovely home. The bed, bathroom and kitchen were top notch and we had the best nights sleep of our tour. Sadly we only had the one night here but would definitely recommend. West facing balcony with sea view where you can have a cold drink and watch the sun go down. Great touches by the host, cold beer and wine in the fridge plus home baked cakes. Quiet garden area downstairs if you’d prefer but all in all a great place to stop.
elliedez48 (10/5): Short but sweet stay! - Lovely, short but sweet stay. We stayed here on our way down the West coast for only 2 night. We really didn’t stay long but enough to appreciate to comfortable room, really well designed and laid out with great amenities and touches - the beer, wine and cookies were nice as well as the toiletries provided. We had a really restful sleep and enjoyed a yummy breakfast the next morning with kiwi juice and homemade muffins and banana bread. Hokitika is a nice town - we got a pizza and ate it on the beach watching the sunset and aptly named sunset point and stopped off at the glow worm dell on the way back to the homestead. The owners Paul and Lyndley are friendly and it was great chatting to Paul at breakfast. Bonus we’re their two dogs who greeted you with howls when you get back - super cute! Really enjoyed the personal family style accommodation after some quite soulless hotels!

Nakitravellers (10/5): A Slice of Heaven! - We stayed 4 nights in the Self Contained Unit ( 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, dining area, lounge,& outdoor deck area ) and it was amazing, so clean & spacious! The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could want, it even had a Nespresso coffee machine! The outdoor area leading out from the kitchen was a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the peacefulness and garden views. Lynley and Paul were fabulous hosts and made us feel really welcome - we will definitely be back!!

Room was very comfortable and clean well organised with some great extra touches. Grounds were beautiful our son had a great time playing around the homestead. Breakfast was amazing, Lynley even gave us some freshed baked muffins for the long drive. We’d highly recommend a stay here on your west coast adventure.

When we turned up at the door on the day, we were told insistently that we’d found the wrong place twice until we showed them your confirmation letter. The owner lady hadn’t checked first before her refusal of our entrance and made us feel so unwelcome. If it’s not because of the time of the day and our exhaustion, we’d have left and found another place. My husband and I are greatly disappointed.
Verified traveler (10/5): Would come back to stay! - This place was lovely and spacious and very friendly. The beach run in the morning was my absolute favorite...it’s a short jog to miles and miles of pristine beach. My only warning is for the ladies with long hair...bring your own conditioner! The type they had in the shower didn’t work at all and I had a ‘rat’s nest’ until the next time I washed it with my own conditioner.

The breakfast was super yummy with fresh baked banana bread, savory muffins, egg& cheese pies, fresh OJ and Kiwi Juice and more-- I'm still full from that breakfast. The location is great too-- close to town for dinner but lovely and quiet with a walking beach just across the road.

Rooms, common lounge area and gardens are all lovely for relaxing. We also enjoyed a short walk down to the beach at dusk. Dinner and breakfast both ample and freshly prepared to a high standard. Highly recommended.

Mine hosts Paul & Lynley Truman were most charming and helpful, and our party of five was catered for wondefully with dinner and breakfast. Our tour over three weeks of the south Island of NZ included many accommodation places but none came close to Awatuna Homestead.

Kizzmoll (10/5): Wonderful homestay - Loved this homestay. The owners gave us a very warm welcome to their attractive house. Our upstairs room and bathroom were large with a sit out balcony with all the conveniences you could want. The bed was large and comfortable, everything was very clean. Breakfast was home cooked with some lovely homemade bread, muffins and savoury tartlets. The house is in a rural location close to the sea but only 10 minutes drive to Hokitika.
susanwB3762ZG (10/5): A hidden gem - We arrived to Hokitika on a very wet day and it looked like a very bleak place but Awatuna was waiting for us. The host Paul was friendly on arrival and took us to our room where he then presented us with 2 bottles of sparkling wine. We were then brought an aperitif because we said we were not going back into hokitika because of the weather. We couldnt have been better looked after. Our breakfast was outstandingall home cooked and fantstic array of food. My only disappointment was not being able to enjoy the garden due tothe weather.

The two bedroom apartment had everything we needed, the beds were comfy, the kitchen was well equipped and the lounge was cozy. The bathroom was lovely and included a bath as well as the shower, and it was a nice touch that bubble bath had provided as this had been missing in other accommodation that we had stayed during our trip that had a bath. We arrived fairly late in the evening but our hosts welcomed us and even though we hadn't ordered breakfast, Lynley bought us up egg and bacon pies and quiche the next morning which was very thoughtful and much appreciated. It was a very comfortable stopover for us and we would definitely stay again and would have been happy to have spent more time there if our trip had allowed.

Verified traveler (10/5): With Heart - Lynley and Paul are wonderful hosts. They put their hearts into making it a great stay for their guests. Lynley, upon hearing that I am vegan fully accommodated me with a wonderful dinner. The nearby country roads are a great place for a bit of a walk about. In the morning, Lynley baked banana muffins from scratch which were also vegan (she even sent me on my way with an extra muffin which, due to staying in a rather remote spot the next evening, was my dinner!). You’ll without a doubt enjoy your stay.

Myriam (10/5): Great stay at the Awatuna Homestead +++ - Best part of the Awatuna Homestead is clearly what comes out of the kitchen. The couple that manage the place are absolutely adorable. The place is comfortable, very convenient and close to Hokitika and its airport. You can get to Pancake Rocks and Franz Josef easily from the Homestead. We recommend highly. Don't miss a visit to the Hokitika Gorge!
Simon (10/5): Quiet, countryside location. - Quiet, countryside location, but only a 10 minute drive into town. Very comfortable throughout. Friendly and welcoming hosts. Highly recommended.
