- Shimy (1/5): Horrible - Me and my partner walked in to check in and the staff turned us down and gave me a free refund as and this is in there words "we spent to much money on these rooms to allow use to stay here" and then to follow that starts saying how we looked like we ran under winz , this is an outrange! Just because we looked a little different he tried calling us poor. That is disgusting behavior and I do not agree to it

- Belinda (8/5): Comfortable and convenient - Friendly staff. Nice big clean kitchen. Small sink/kettle available on the 2nd floor, which was super convenient. Bed was comfortable. There is a small grocery store next door, although closes by approx 5pm. There are a few places within walking distance, but overall, most of that area of town shuts down early. Facilities are a bit dated, but it adds to the charm/history of the place. Plenty of free parking. Not a big deal, but make sure and bring your own shampoo and soap (which is not supplied). Manual (timed) heater provided in the room on the wall.

- Ram (1/5): Horrible experience - Nothing The room felt poorly maintained, with unfinished walls and exposed damage that made it look more like a renovation site than a hotel. Heavy condensation and streaking on the windows blocked natural light and gave the space a damp, neglected feel. Even basic fixtures showed buildup and grime, leaving little confidence in the cleanliness or overall standards of the property.

- Vandana (5/5): Was great but few things needs to be updated. - Location was perfect lots of breakfast options but unfortunately it was closed as it was public holiday. Everything was great and offered good value for money, but the bedroom was very dusty. As we are sensitive to dust and have allergies, this was an issue. The bedroom only had bath towels; it would have been better if hand towels or face towels were also provided. Additionally, the toilet paper roll was positioned too low to the ground and should have been placed higher.

The owners are trying very hard to provide a good experience and very respo - It is well located within walking distance of everything you need in Greymouth. The communal areas are great and the kitchen is spotless and well stocked. The owners are very obliging and helpful.

- ANTONIO A DE (8/5): Excelente localização com um ótimo custo benefício. - The place is near the train station to Christchurch (TranzAlpine). There's a supermarket, nice restaurants, pubs nearby, and also one of the most traditional breweries in the country. I really liked the city because it's very calm. The place has a great smell of incense. One of the people in charge is very friendly and obsessed with cleanliness. I saw him several times checking what was already clean, which is very good. It had boiling water for tea and noodles, large glass-fronted refrigerators for storing food, stoves with range hoods, and the kitchen was always organized and clean. The shower floor is interesting because its texture massages the soles of your feet. I loved the sensation. I don't think anything about the hostel bothered me, considering it's obviously a hostel. Perhaps a few more power outlets for guests in their respective rooms would have been nice.

- Maryna (8/5): Try it! Don't be afraid :) - We had a wonderful time here! It was a great deal for the price. It was simple to spot the yellow building in the ghost town. We didn’t encounter anyone else in town except for quests from the hostel :) The atmosphere is quite unique compared to other places. We had a room with a shared bathroom, which was clean and comfy. In the morning, you can easily find breakfast at one of the cafes near the hostel. And of course, the admin-guy is a key and soul of this place :) Thanks! Shower is tooooo small.

- colette (8/5): Pleasant stopover in Greymouth - The Duke is a well-kept hostel which is being renovated by it's dedicated owners. The rooms have been lovingly renovated. The kitchen has great cookers and are well stocked with pans, and utensils, including sharp knives. The dining room has not been renovated yet but is functional and a range of people stay at the hostel so it's vibrant and friendly. The hostel is also right in town so it's an easy walk to the regent cinema (has a great bar and nice coffee), Pounamu Pathway exhibition and of course the train station.

- Helena (7/5): Vriendelijk en bezig met moderniseren - Het personeel van The Duke Hostel is erg vriendelijke en je ziet dat ze druk bezig zijn om de kwaliteit op verschillende vlakken te verhogen. Zo werden op het moment dat wij er waren nieuwe ovens geïnstalleerd. De gezamenlijke keuken is sowieso ruim opgezet, de houthaard (die iedere dag werd aangestoken) in de gezamenlijke eetkamer maakt het knus en we hebben ons ook vermaakt in de soort gameroom. Ons viel Greymouth zelf tegen, maar daar kan het hostel niets aan doen. De eetkamer voelt wat donker en somber door het verouderde meubilair en het gebrek aan ramen. Al ben ik benieuwd hoe ze zich de komende jaren gaan ontwikkelen.

- FRANCISCO (10/5): Perfecto, por encima de su calificación - Empezando por el trato que fue maravilloso, y siguiendo por la limpieza, servicios, camas, habitaciones, sala de estar, comedor, todo perfecto, es la primera cocina compartida que veo donde la limpieza es de 19, hay todo tipo de utensilios y están perfectamente ordenados por clase y tamaños y en perfecto estado de uso, sin ir mas lejos, las sartenes, perfectas, por ejemplo. Gracias por el trato y el servicio, un lugar para volver seguro.
