- Jade (10/5): - We stayed in the Gypsy truck, I liked the novelty of it. It was cute and quirky. The host was super helpful, and talked us through the features on arrival. Surprisingly, the shower was excellent. Doesn't appear that way on first impression, however perfect temperature, and lots of pressure. One suggestion would be a step or the like, if you are short, to get up into the loft bed. We even saw baby ducks that were extremely friendly and came right up to us
- Evelyn (8/5): - We enjoyed our stays however was overwhelmed by the rules on staying at the property the book lists was over the top and felt unwelcoming especially if you stay a minute over 10am checkout time they charge $20 per hour, the kitchen was good however not really clean the pots and pans need upgrading the owner was not friendly so made us uncomfortable on arrival. Maybe kids would like it with all the animals around the dogs were the best part so lovely.

He provided great hospitality to our family with a clean and fun yurt space, private bathroom, breakfast including fresh free range eggs and other breakfast options. My kids and I also enjoyed feeding and encountering the different types of farm animals onsite. Overall, we were very happy to stay in Wacky Stays. Highly recommended!

- Daniel (10/5): - This is a great location a few KMs from Kaikoura. We wanted quiet and we got it. Set in lovely ground kept by the family it was simply lovely. The farm cottage is old but that is part of the experience the floors are uneven some doors you have bend a little to get in. This simply reflects the different eras in which additions or repairs where done. this cottage can sleep around 8 people comfortably (I am allowing for the couch as well). Great water pressure, big lawn for the kids or maybe you could bring the caravan for a fee and park up with the rest of the family the outdoor space is wonderful. The stove worked perfectly, outdoor BBQ and Pizza oven, things for the kids to do including long necked sheep sorry Llama's or similar. The person welcoming us was excellent Kevin (owner) gave us a good rundown. I really enjoyed this site while it is not new it is definitely comfortable and great for a family or group of friends

- Keith (8/5): fun family stay in Kaikoura. - Three adults and two boy's (11 and 6) spent two nights in the farm cottage at Wacky Stays. Really enjoyed our stay, the boy's especially the youngest couldn't get enough of feeding and seeing the animals, and both of them made full use of the ride on pedal tractor, heaps of room for them to run around too. Wacky Stays very obliging and friendly, look forward to staying again.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Wacky and fun! - It's a bit hard to find, so have a map printed or a NZ sim card to track it. Once you're there, there are signs. Definitely rural (with the animals), so it's quiet and can be quite relaxing. Wacky, yes, and rather fun. The wagon has the best view, but the bed in the gypsy truck was quite comfortable. Owner and workers work with you and try to make all go well. Responsibilities are given to the visitor, such as recycle, wash all dishes, etc.

Went to both feeding times where you were made to feel apart of the experience if you wanted to or had the option to watch and learn. My partner and I stayed in the wagon which was very clean and supplied with a continental breakfast. Would highly recommend to stay the night as it was the best night of our New Zealand trip.

We were pretty happy but we were really put off by the huge lists of conditions in the welcome booklet. Long lists explaining that, for example if a towel went missing we would be charged $45 and slippers $25. It was an insinuation that clients are dishonest. Never seen such a list in a place. Otherwise it was good.

Only complaint would be, a bit more upkeep to the facilities for example the lights in the outdoor area didn’t work and the click start on the pizza oven no longer works but wasn’t stated in the instructions. But overall we had a good time, very relaxing and loved the animals. Pretty cool staying in a colonial wagon.

- John (10/5): Wacky Stays Kaikoura - A very pleasant stay at a surprising location with a range of quirky accommodation units. We stayed in the cottage but other units included a teepee, a yurt and a gypsy wagon. Reception upon arrival was very good.
- Victoria (10/5): Experience - It was very nice and we had a view of the Llama field. I would recommend it for children because there is a farm open 8:15-4:00. The farm is fun because you get to feed the animals.
- Claris (6/5): Once in a lifetime, but never again. - If you are looking for a something new experience, then go for it, otherwise I wouldn't recommend this place at this price. I stayed in Tipi with my two teenaged kids. To be fair, Tipi and bathroom were spacious. However so many things should be improved. 1. Smell: Tipi has weird smell as it is a tent and so many sheepskins inside and Indian dream catchers with their faces on it (not that nice to see them in the dark) 2. Bed: too soft but bearable 3. Beddings: It was the most terrible thing. I could smell someone else's head through the pillows. I doubt they change the bed sheets, especially pillow covers. I used my clothes as a pillow and blanket 4. Wifi: you need to go outside of Tipi and try to find "THE SPOT" no 3G and 4G are working either. We ended up driving our car out to Kaikoura city centre to do research about things to do and restaurants. 5. Breakfast: They said that breakfast would be provided, in turn they gave us some cereals, eggs and loaf of bread to make our own and I stayed two nights but the second morning breakfast was not provided. I couldn't be bothered to ask them. 6. Animals: It is a farm, so you will encounter with many domestic animals and their feces also they start to make noises from 5am. 7. Tipi was slightly leaking when it rained. Summer time would be okay but I do not recommend staying there in winter time. 8. - Toby (2/5): Dirty and Dusty Yurt. - Interesting and unique accommodation concept, however, this is massively let down by a lack of basic cleanliness. We noticed a strong musty smell on entry to the room and thick layers of dust around the bed which caused us to sneeze and made our one night stay highly uncomfortable. The single use bathroom hygiene products had clearly been used, some were refilled and others half empty. This place was not cheap at $195NZD per night and we definitely expected more. Issues were raised directly with the hotel owner, Kevin, who agreed that the level of cleanliness was unacceptable. A full refund was requested but the maximum Kevin would offer was $50. Kevin was of the view that the cleanliness issue was only a small part of the experience and that my request for a full refund was unreasonable. Kevin advised that the reason there was so much thick dust around and under the bed was due to this being a disability bed that cleaners would not move. Kevin stated that the musty smell was due to camel hair being used in the construction of the yurt. I tend to think that if the dust was removed, the room and items (such as cushions) were thoroughly cleaned and aired out, the musty smell would be less of a problem. In my view, cleanliness is fundamental to providing a healthy, comfortable environment. Our stay was negatively impacted by the dusty and dirty state of the room. To downplay this as a minor inconvenience shows Kevin’s lack of insight into providing an acceptable service.
- sue (10/5): Room with a difference in a peaceful setting - Stayed in the colonial wagon which was in a wonderful peaceful location backing onto a field with resident llamas donkey and a deer! All mod cons in the wagon which were cleverly disguised or hidden to maintain the authentic feel of an old wagon. Lovely to sit on the steps in the evening looking out and listening to the birds.

- Emma (10/5): Best place we've stayed in NZ - Absolutely fantastic stay. Me and my partner stayed in the wagon. The stay exceeded our expectations. The wagon was large and faced onto beautiful mountains. There was also an outdoor area with a pizza oven and BBQ! Highly recommend if you want a unique experience with great attention to detail. Where to check in was a little confusing so be sure to read all the signs around the site so you know where to go.
- Kenny (10/5): Fascinating farm stay and lovely animals - Simply amazing! We stayed at the Tipi and it was an awesome glamping experience. We awoke to the sounds of chicken and sheep, and we found it fascinating, given that we are city folks. Do spend time interacting with the llamas and other farm animals as well! Note that the bathroom is detached from the Tipi, so you got to be prepared to walk outside of the comfort of the Tipi if you need the toilet at night ;)
- Drew (10/5): Kids favourite place ever - This was my kids favourite place ever. They loved feeding the animals and the rural setting. The accommodation met all expectations (we stayed in the train carriage) and the scenery exceeded them. Will be coming back to try another one of the accommodation options.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Farm spot with neat unusual options. - Was going to stay in authentic yurt but feared camel hair in roof potentially allergenic given strong smell. Historic cabin we stayed in instead was lovely and well kitted out in kitchen and had a woodburning stove. Had ponies show up at our door. :) Re free ride for kids, our 8 year old too tall to ride, unfortunately.
