• Te Kowhai (2/5): Would recommend paying slightly extra and looking elsewhere - The carpark is right outside the room so easy to get in and out, they had a microwave in each room, dishware and electric blankets for each bed. Had an easy check-in process with lock-boxes and the owner messaged the instructions early which were easy to follow, also the location is right in town. When we arrived at 11pm after a 17.5 hour travel day(booked two rooms for work) one of the rooms had not been cleaned at all(bed unmade/slept in, unclean dishes in sink and dirty bathroom), never in my life have I arrived to such an unclean room(however, this seemed to have been missed communication between the cleaner and owner so is most likely a one-off). They answered the phone quickly and gave other options such as the bottom room of a nearby 4-bedroom chalet and another room(which unfortunately hadn’t been cleaned either) but I didn’t feel comfortable with those options, so stayed in the second room with my workmate. In that room we couldn’t find where to turn on the heater so it was a bit cold and the water was pooling on the bottom of the shower floor, however other than that the room was ok given the price.

• Susanne (8/5): - Heizdecke im Bett war super, Der Check-in war um ca. 1600 Uhr geschlossen. Erst nach e-mail Anfrage erfuhren wir den Zimmercode. Der kleine Heizkörper im Zimmer konnte daa Zimmer nicht aufheizen. Nacht-Außentemprratur 4 Grad. Im Zimmer war es ziemlich kalt.

• Sabine (6/5): Einfaches Motel, gut für 1 Übernachtung im Sommer - Guter Stopp in Ohakune. Das Motel ist gut erreichbar, liegt aber in einer ruhigen Seitenstraße. Angenehm sind die Parkplätze direkt vor der Tür. Die Ausstattung mit Kühlschrank und Wasserkocher etc. war gut. Den Schlüssel hat man kontaktlos in einem Kästchen neben der Tür gefunden. Der Code dafür wurde per SMS übermittelt. Zwar etwas unpersönlich, hat aber gut funktioniert. Die Unterkunft ist bereits ein bisschen in die Jahre gekommen. Im Küchenbereich gab es keine Spüle, so dass man das Geschirr im Bad spülen musste. Machbar, aber etwas umständlich.

This motel was very accommodating with a last minute booking that was not going to arrive until late in the evening. Each motel room has a lockbox so we could quietly let ourselves in without having to stress about arriving by a certain time. Being right next to a supermarket was a bonus! We are already planning a trip back in the winter.

• David (7/5): Close to Town and the Mountain - Close to town and only a short drive to the mountain for skiing or sightseeing. It’s a small compact unit that is ok for one night but personally we would not want to stay any longer as it is a bit small. It was clean and had a great shower which is the reason we booked it based on the shower rating from other reviews. We hate places that have showers that are low pressure and not hot. This shower unit was good but you did need to adjust the temperature very slowly or it would be scolding hot or freezing cold. Once you found the correct setting it was good. Electric blanket was nice as the temperature plummeted overnight. Ohakune is not a cheap place to stay but we do understand it is seasonal so they have to make the most of the winter trade. It’s a great town and we will return next year in yet to be chosen accommodation. Not a fan of non contact check in and check out done by text messages. It is also mention from other guests about contactless check in/out and some are also not fans. We like to meet the host as it makes it a more personal stay. I did however met the manager briefly as she came on site to fill the spa. It was a great timing as the Heater on the wall was not good enough to heat the room .We were supplied another heater which did the job and then the wall heater was able to cope. No heater in the bathroom only heat lamps which did nothing. Ohakune is a cold environment and we are surprised that accomodation we have stayed in the past and this one does not have adequate heating.

We find it to be perfectly sited for our break and close to restaurants etc. it is always good value On this occasion it was very cold outside with heavy frosts. We found the heating was not able to keep up with the cold. We should have requested a second heater. This is the only time we have had this issue.

I couldn't go up the stairs due to fear. My grandaughter was a little scared too. Freezing cold. Heater did not heat the room at all. I froze all night. Very small bathroom with very small shower. Do not book if you are a bigger person.
