- Pamela (10/5): Picture Perfect at Parautune Lodge - Parautane Lodge is a lovely, clean and welcoming accommodation. The sunsets from the room, balcony and patios were outstanding. The bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfasts delicious. Both Anthony and Allan were more than happy to share ‘must sees/dos in the area. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this spacious accommodation. We purposefully chose to be out of town for the tranquility which may not be for everyone. (It’s so worth it!) The road up is windy and some of it unpaved but again worth the effort for sure.

- Jeanette (8/5): We really enjoyed our stay and would have been better if we could have spent whole days without having to travel to town - The views beautiful, however from the garden room it was difficult to fully appreciate them. The hosts went above and beyond to accommodate us. First impressions were mixed as the entry steps needed a bit of love. We felt there was a lack of comfortable seating both indoors and outdoors. No option for evening meal. This meant we had to travel to town for meals everyday.

Very comfy beds, and very nice breakfast each morning :) Nothing - the road leading up to it is gravel and steep in places, but was absolutely fine in our hire car. My relatives managed with driving their campervan up also, and it was worth it for the beautiful view!

Angenehme Gastgeber. Sehr gutes Frühstück. Nur vier Zimmer, dadurch sehr guten Kontakt zu anderen Gästen und reger Austausch. Im Prinzip alles gut. Bei der Reinlichkeit gibt es noch Verbesserungspotential.

A very comfortable bed and large bathroom. The jacuzzi has amazing views and robes are provided and towels. Our hosts were very helpful and made an exceptionally good cooked breakfast. Ideally bring your own supplies as there is a BBQ and fridge. The road to the lodge is steep and unsealed for two kms. The lodge is a little dated but actually adds to it's charm.

Upon reaching house view was fantastic. Description stated Barbecue available but no facilities or crockery/utensils that was obvious for us ito use and journey up private driveway was challenging in steepness and narrownes.

A acomodação fica muito distante do centro da cidade, em um local ermo e de difícil acesso. O estacionamento fica longe dos quartos e com muita escada. Os quartos ficam na residência dos proprietários, o que prejudica bastante a privacidade dos hóspedes.

Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hatte tolle Tipps gegeben. Frühstück war individuell und sehr gut. Besonders hat uns der Whirlpool mit der Privatsphäre und Aussicht gefallen. War alles Bestens! Man muss berücksichtigen, dass die Unterkunft etwas abseits liegt. Bis zum Abel Tasman ca. 1,5 h, bis Nelson ca. 20min. War haben aber die Ruhe und die Lage genossen.

- David (9/5): Great view, highly recommended - Great location, overlooking the beautiful landscape from above. The host was absolutely charming and welcoming. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, served on a central table facing the view. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet other guests and share travel experiences. Highly recommended! Please note that the road leading to the hotel is quite narrow and steep, but the view is worth it.

- Peter (4/5): Unfortunately, we cannot give this B and B 5 stars. We feel it could be run more professionally. - The owner/managers of this property were lovely people, very friendly and tried to be helpful where possible. The breakfast was quite nice but their dog sat under the table begging for food most of the time. Not ideal ! The property sounds more like a 5 star hotel on the listing but it is actually a very expensive B and B. It is about a 20 minute drive from Nelson CBD. There is about 1 km of very dusty gravel road to get up hill to the lodge ( you will probably need to wash your car afterwards !) There are about 10 steps to carry your luggage down to the room which faced west with a sideways view to the ocean. The owners advise they will help with the luggage but they were not there to greet us and left a key for us to open up ourselves. (They did help us with the luggage when we left, on request.) The room was not particularly clean and there were spiders and daddy long-legs around in the corners. The balcony needed sweeping of leaves and dirt. The west facing windows were quite dirty with with the afternoon sun on them. (suggestion- some see-through blinds would be good to keep the afternoon sun from roasting the room.) There were no tissues supplied (until we asked). The cupboard door hinges needed oiling badly as they squeaked. The kettle was plugged into a loose power board which hung down under a wooden tray mounted on a trestle...not exactly 5 star ! The whole property is sadly in need of maintenance (e.g. outdoor light fitting hanging down on wires). Some of the decking looks quite weathered and will need replacing soon. Also, we thought it was unnecessary to charge $45 for a bottle of red wine in the mini-bar and the supplies of tea and instant coffee in the room were really quite meagre. ( how about a coffee pod machine ! ) We were in NZ for 12 days staying in 4 and 5 star hotels , but this property was the most expensive by far !

The dining room with the table set fro breakfast was stunning. Nothing. It was all first class. The lane up to the property was a little scary, but well worth the effort, and the second time up was fine. Once up, the views were spectacular.

- Rosalind (8/5): Bedrooms were good. A bit further away from town than we thought. - The room and the bed were excellent. They were very good about serving breakfast a bit earlier. Spa was not well maintained. Can only get there by car and road steep.
- John (7/5): Issues caused by the owners absence. - The views were as expected and the studio very large and clean. For his/her own reasons, the owner/manager was absent and they left two young girls in charge. I have to stress here that I'm not criticising them because they were obviously doing the best that they could, or were trained to do. In my opinion they were not trained enough to confidently take charge and address potential or actual issues without having to get back to the owner. This takes time which was frustrating for my wife and me. They were also the cooks and while breakfast was adequate, we got the impression that what was displayed was the minimum needed for that day. On the first morning it wasn't announced that brekky could be cooked (bacon, eggs etc) until after I'd chosen the quantity of cereal I wanted based on my incorrect understanding that cereal was all that was available. The coffee was instant, not ground. Our internet connection packed up on Sunday and at 9.00 pm we were informed that it couldn't be fixed until Monday after we had gone. We were offered another room or a free bottle of Merlot, and while their offer was greatly appreciated, we decided against both. Again, referring to the absence of the owner - if it was due to an "emergency" type situation, all well and good, but if it was so the owner could take a break, then in my opinion, he/she should have closed shop and foregone the revenue.

- Liz (10/5): Fantastic stay - Fantastic stay just 20min from Nelson city centre, with an unforgettable view of the bay. Our room was directly on the huge wooden patio. Very comfortable bed, clean room with all the amenities. Great host with lots of advice. I highly recommend it. The street to the property is indeed steep but anyone who knows how to drive can manage that. No bumps when we used it.

Tha - The view was good No fridge in the room, with 3 of the 4 units were meant to share a small fridge, along with the owners beer and wine (for purchase by the guests should they choose). Perhaps a larger fridge in the dining area or a small fridge in each room. Better option to take luggage down and up steep stairs, perhaps guests could use the owners driveway just to initially load and unload baggage only. It appears the house accommodation needs care and tlc.

- Peter (9/5): With just a lot more attention to detail it could be great. As it is you think it’s a bit over priced given the quality - The view from the patio/bedroom window is awesome. The bed was supremely comfortable. The bathroom was superb. Breakfast was pretty good. It’s pretty remote, there was no welcome and the outside is very scruffy - so you’re starting to feel a bit concerned given it’s at the expensive end of the spectrum for B&B accommodation. Plus, little things are missing - no tissues, no comfy chairs in the large room, just a couple of tea and coffee bags. And $7 for a small beer and over $40 for a bottle of local wine! Most places at this price would throw a bottle in.

- Josephine (10/5): This sanctuary was exactly what I needed following a busy and adventure-packed three weeks of travel. I loved theloved - The temporary hosts, Tim and Lorna, were very accommodating and helpful. The huge wooden deck was a great place to relax and dry laundry. The views were spectacular! Loved the big sit down dining table at breakfast time. Breakfasts were yummy - Tim even fried some tomatoes to go with my eggs one morning. Outstanding privacy - I barely bumped into other guests. The spa tub was awesome - I needed that after all my mountaineering aches and pains. Nothing really - it was lovely. However, there were two things out of the control of the hosts that I will mention. One night the rain set in, and with it came very low cloud cover that was so thick I had a lot of difficulty navigating up the very narrow and winding road to their hilltop location. It was actually very frightening in the dark as it was a dirt road with no lights. The second issue was the gigantic ditch in front of their driveway. It was extremely deep as I drove off the main road up into their driveway. I was afraid of scraping the underbelly of my rental vehicle.
- Mauro (3/5): I really would not recommend this "so called" lodge - We booked for three days at the Parautane Lodge following the very positive comments on Tripadvisor. We were however very disappointed with our stay. The Lodge has undoubtedly beautiful views on the bay but this is its only asset. Access to the place is not easy: the last section of the road to the lodge is bumpy, unsealed and quite difficult, making the 10 minutes drive from Nelson problematic. Considering the price, the rooms and the breakfast are average. More importantly, our room was never serviced during the three days we stayed there. Before leaving, we asked the manager whether this was the lodge normal policy. He told us that we should have asked for service by putting out a notice which was supposed to be in our room. We indicated that nobody had informed us of this policy. We also checked with him and could not find any notice in our room. His apologies were not very convincing and only concerned the lack of the notice in the room. I find it unacceptable that, in a lodge that calls itself a "Luxury” Lodge, rooms are not automatically cleaned. In conclusion, I do not recommend the place. Its price is totally unjustified considering its level (lack of) of service, difficulty of access, average level of rooms and breakfast.
