• Islandboy (8/5): Awesome location! - It is an old building which creaks and can hear people walking upstairs. Hopefully wasn't ghosts haha. Not flash but definitely adequate short term accommodation
• Verified traveler (2/5): Parnell City Lodge. - We arrived a little early to fill in the paperwork and informed the owner we could come back later to check into the room. Firstly we were met with cold rudeness. The parking lot looked untidy and unkempt. The foyer of this lodge was untidy -floors not swept, dust on the desk and papers strewn all over the foyer desk. The landlord was scruffy, untidy, impatient and terribly dismissive . Walking to the room seemed like I was living a nightmare the corridor to the room had stained untidy looking carpets. The room although had the once over cleaning, had a distinctive stale stench. The carpet looked old, worn out and stained. When my friend who drove me to this lodge, and I commented on the smell the owner aggressively stated that the room was clean, handed me the key and stormed out, leaving us standing there in utter bewilderment. In all it was a nightmare so I left and booked into another hotel. Maybe I was unfortunate. I TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY to THANK EXPEDIA and their excellent staff who handled my complaints promptly , displaying empathy, patience, courtesy and professionalism. Nothing for the Expedia team was a bother. They called back later to check I was okay when I had booked into the other hotel. They also dealt with my complaints in a manner that reassured me immediately especially as I was in another country and felt vulnerable after my ordeal. I would definitely recommend booking through Expedia as they care about you. THANK YOU Expedia for all your help.
• Manager (2/5): Filthy, dated, but great location - Everything appeared totally unprofessional on this site. First impressions set the standard of the room. Reception area untidy and vacuum cleaners sitting there (clearly this is their storage area as they don't appear to have been used int he room I had)The room was filthy - bed linen gross, dirt, dust and grime everywhere, cutlery unclean, dirt and dust around electrical cords and power points, mold and mildew on curtains. Didn't use the shower as there was still old soap left on the shelf so nervous to think of what else was in the soap trap. Tiny fridge with old microwave balancing on top of it and dirty old toaster balancing on top of that. Old furniture cramped into the room.

• piggy (4/5): Easter in Auckland - A really great location. It's just a pity our first impression of our reception greeting and subsequent request for additional towels wasn't great and this set the scene for the remainder of our stay here. Originally booked for 3x nights but stayed 2x. The room was adequate, the bathroom tight, not enough cutlery or plates etc for 4x people, the TV was good. Looks like they are making some renovations? which could make things better.
• mary (8/5): wonderfully central to city. all day bus services - for the price unbeatable and comfortable.did every thing we wanted and will certainly be going back again.
• Hugely Disappoi (2/5): Even my kids noticed it was filthy - receptionist doesn't regularly check his emails and had already given our room away.. So he put us in a different room. He called the cleaner who was finishing her clean of this room so it was now ready. She was finishing up as we walked in but had no vacuum, mop nor any clean linen. the place hadn't been vacuumed, in the lounge was a pull down double bed which was already down and she hadn't cleaned all the bits and pieces from under it, more rubbish under couch cushions a small red carpet mat at the end of the bed had so much dirt under it I don't think it's ever been cleaned! Behind the TV cabinet along the window was a mass trail of dirt, dust and dead bugs also left there for us.. She spot cleaned the lino badly with a cloth instead of a mop and there was the previous guests hair in the shower! Four of us staying in this room and we were given one small bar of soap and one tiny shampoo barely big enough for one. The handle for the shower door had been snapped off at some stage and not repaired making it nearly impossible to even open the door - the bathroom door itself was missing its rollers meaning my kids couldn't even shut the door - when I helped them we found the door was too small for the door frame!!! Thick layers of dust on every high surface and all skirting boards. Outside was a mess, dirt and cords everywhere. Mattresses in the outside hallways and cords running down the stairs.

• Oermila (2/5): Please do not book this place or advertise it - We arrived 1.5 hours after check in (which is at 2:00pm). The owner who manages the reception was not welcoming at all, had a bad attitude and unfriendly. When we went to the room to check in we found that it has not been cleaned, beds unmade, bathrooms in a state. We went back to the reception and complained about the state of the room. The owner called the cleaner and asked for the room to be cleaned. There was no way that the rooms would have been ready in time and the state of the place outside and inside is actually quite disgraceful. I do not think that Expedia should be endorsing or advertising this venue because it gives your brand a bad name. I want my money back please. When we asked the owner for a refund he said that he had not received the money and to contact the booking agent.
• Linda (2/5): Huge let-down - I’ve learnt a lesson not to check reviews for an accommodation provider prior to booking it. This place was a total let-down. From the moment we arrived I felt uncomfortable. It was clear that they catered more for long stays than overnight travellers. The outside of the building was run down, the alleyway near the reception area was stacked with old, broken things. The owner was manning the reception and he was unfriendly and made us feel unwelcome. The cherry on the cake was when he unlocked our room and we discovered the room was not made – at 3:30pm in the afternoon! We decided not to stay there for the night and the owner would not refund us. He told us to go to the booking agent direct.The photos speak for themselves. Our weekend was ruined by this experience. I would highly recommend you to not advertise this property any longer.

• Sam (2/5): Terrible Place - Absolutely terrible place from the first contact with the owner, he was rude and the room was disgusting, had baby cockroaches crawling round from the bed pillows, sheets looked like hadn't been washed and the kitchen nothing was clean even the walls and floor, only enough coffee for 1 cup, never again, paid $111 only worth $5
• Verified traveler (2/5): Horrible - I should have read the reviews before I booked this place! The "room" we stayed in was not a bedroom - more like a rumpus room or something. No windows, no ventilation, and no secured internal/external doors. VERY unclean and unhygienic. Towels had stains and the owner put a carton of milk in a non-working mini fridge... Not to mention that the owner is very rude. Everything at this place was WRONG. We initially booked this hotel for 5 nights but cancelled the last 3 nights as I simply could NOT stand living there for any longer! NOT recommended to anyone.

• Xtina (6/5): Not quite what I expected. - Considering it was such a good price for four of us, I should have known that was an indication of what to expect. The booking I made was for a balcony room, we did not get that. At first glance the room seemed fine. However, the kitchen sinks were stained and had a pea in one, the microwave was very rusty inside (must surely be a H&S hazard), and the extra 'clean' towels we were given had yellow stains all over them. Not to mention the extra guest that made an appearance the next morning; a cockroach came crawling out from under the bathroom sink. The beds were comfortable though, and the Lodge itself was in a pretty good location; the distance to our event was a 5min car ride or 20min walk. I don't think I would return though, unless very desperate, as I now know what to expect.
• Wayne (6/5): Ok - Just - The motel was convenient, being just across the road from my conference venue. But overpriced for what it offers. Limited facilities and all a bit "tired". Clean enough, but having the appearance of being quite run down. Would I stay there again - yes, if the price was right. Ok for sleeping.
• Ian (2/5): Very Poor Standard - The overall cleanliness was well below expected, the floors needed a good vacuum and there were dirty marks on the tiled floor. The white towels were grey and the furniture was stained. Not a very nice experience.

• Jayaraj (6/5): Insects infested place. - We arrived at 10:15pm and the Manager was still there to show us the room. But to our dismay, The room 3A given to us was infested with insects like mosquitos, cockroaches and crawling insects. The ventillators were too tight to be closed and all kinds of insects were coming in all night. The Room was otherwise comfortable although small. We were given a small packet of milk which is appreciated. The linen and towels were old but not bad. It was ok for a late night stay.
• Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid this hotel - The Parnell City Lodge room was smelly (urine in the carpet) and the duvet had creamy stains on it as it seemed unwashed- just disgusting. The manager was rude - repeatedly getting my name wrong while checking in and he seemed to me to be 'creepy'. Definitely avoid this hotel...
• Verified traveler (4/5): great location - the location of parnell city lodge was great but that is about all. the apartment was not clean, there was hair stuck under the bath room door, marks all over the walls and stains on the bed blankets. it was enough for what we wanted but wouldnt pay the money we did to stay here again.
• L (4/5): Parnell Lodge - It wasnt what I expected But it was very messy not furniture wise. There was dust everywhere and it looked a bit like it wasnt cleaned up properly. But room was comfy
• Helen (6/5): Hotel in Parnell - The facilities are reasonable, however to improve on presentation the following areas need attention. There Are cobwebs on the exterior windows the Glass shelving in the bathroom had dust and toothpaste on them In the summer time a fan or air conditioning in the bedroom would assist with a guests comfort, conversly in winter time a heater would probably be necessary The bed linens were not wrinkle free the light above the bedroom mirror didn't appear to be working No obvious rubbish bins in the room or on site for guest use generally a okay place to stay but I wouldn't recommend it to a friend
• Verified traveler (2/5): Don't risk it! - This is a terrible place to stay. Location and free parking may attract, but the place needs a thorough clean and improved ventilation. It smelt of mould/incense, and the entrance was scruffy. Our room wasnt ready - and it was gone 6pm - and the fridge didn't work. Beautiful chandeliers which were somewhat bizarre! Some other guests were quite noisy - not much soundproofing. No external security door either. But we came through unscathed and it gave us something to talk about!
• Disappointed in Parnell (4/5): Parnell by name, not by nature - Check in was difficult as the office was open but no one there, and how to contact wasn't very clear. The room was cluttered with furniture so a microwave could be put on a table to make a kitchen - but it wasn't really. The bathroom was small and cramped. The pillows looked old and tired, as did the bed, but they were clean. It was a hot and humid night, but no fan supplied. We did gwt one qhen asked for but it was a very dirty fan. But having the windows open to let in fresh air wasn't great as the room faced the road. The location at the top of Parnell shopping strip was fantastic, but the quality of the hotel didn't match the surrounds.
• phil (6/5): - You get what you pay for. For a nights sleep, and walking to and from Robbie Williams concert at Spark Arena, it was perfect. Probably won't stay there again though, a bit tired.

• Dylan (4/5): Paper thin walls - We were in a room that was very cheap so wasn’t expecting much looks wise or even quality but there were some things that ruined the experience . There was a locked door in our room that we later found out was connected to another room so when they were screaming and moving furniture at 1am it felt like they were in the room with you . Also the door had a massive gap at the bottom of it letting cold air in and we were woken at around 8:30 by a staff member vacuuming the CONCRETE walk way outside of our room when our stay was over we went to return key and speak to management except they hadn’t opened the office even tho they were meant to nearly an hour ago . If you’re a heavy sleeper with low standards then this is for you

• Judith (8/5): - It was fine for a 1 night stay, a little run down and nothing flash but was reasonably comfortable, good location, parking was a little tight, happy to stay again in the future.
• A (4/5): Good for a overnight stay - Room had all necessities but was extremely hot! Needs a aircon or something because that fan was not doing much and the windows are of no help at all. However, location was across the street to good eateries and staff was good. Parking was a little small but luckily I got the last spot.

• Jody (4/5): Over all terrible - Owner needed a shower and wear clean clothes. We arrived at 10 to 2 and was told check in is not till 2pm that's when I'll open the office. He was so rude. When he did open after 2pm, we just got glared at NO welcome just like well what's your name, he refused to give us a receipt. We were very happy to leave and will never return.
• Amanda (4/5): Was cheap and close to where we needed to be. - The bed was large and very comfortable, probably one of the best out of all our rented accommodation. The room was smaller than the website shows, the furniture placement was very poor as the chair for the table was hard up against the bed if you wanted to use it. Only one chair, coffee table was useless as large microwave on it. All crockery was on top of the drawers which was a pain. No where to put anything as had to move it to sleep or sit. Nearly knocked myself out on the wall getting out of bed one morning!! If it wasn't 10pm when we arrived we would have walked out again. Bathroom tiny. Adequate just not comfortable. Soft close toilet seat which was the best part! No bath mat provided so had to stand on hand towel after a shower. No hand rail and large step out of shower onto wet tiles. Accident waiting to happen. Sliding door hard to use and NO sound proofing between main room and loo... No bed side lamps, lighting horrendously dim. Certainly not able to read. No air conditioning or air flow. Would be horribly hot in peak of summer. Had to use cold flannel to cool off before sleeping. Male receptionist was grumpy and should not be front of house!! We avoided him best we could. Not a people person AT ALL. And was like this with most guests that we observed. If you just want a bed and no service it is cheap. You get what you pay for! We won't be back.
• Tracey (2/5): Dirty and dated - Whole place was dirty. The rooms were dirty and there was a stale musty almost urine like smell in the bedroom. I had to clean the toilet before use as there was urine splatters on the seat, under the seat had not been cleaned for a while. The bathroom had mildew and grime, plus the tiles were breaking away from the grout. Furniture was dirty, as were the walls and above range hood. Bedding was aweful, didn’t sleep in the sheets as we were unsure if they had been changed. Daughter found pubic hair in her bed..ewww! All the bedding looked like it needed to be thrown out to the dump. Would have left but was to late to change as were going to concert. Great distance/location from venue, such a shame. Won’t be back that’s for sure!

But all in all it was what we needed and would happily stay there again. Priced right. Parnell is a pretty area to stay plenty to see and do. Very central to the arena and city centre. With easy access to public transport. 😄😄😄

• Ola (2/5): Good location. - Dirty towels - with an unpleasant smell, a spider web over the bed, strange furniture and a nonsensical location in the room. The most nervous was the lack of pressure in the shower.
• Verified traveler (2/5): Left some minutes after we got the key. - Dirty floor, vanity & taps slimey. Did not dare to touch the bed. Moved out immediately. Extremly noisy - busy traffic light meters from room window. Very unfriendly receptionist - complained we would disturb his other work when we called him for check-in. Did not care about our complaints. Was not willing to talk to Wotif call center. Slammed the reception door so I could not further talk to him. STAY AWAY!
• Carol (2/5): Delete from Expedia ! - Upon arrival at 2.30 pm, office closed. The perimeter was very untidy with pieces of wood etc up against the doors on the lower level. Phoned management and advised key under the mat !! Opened the door to the oldest mismatched room in history. The odor was unimaginable and we advised (by phone) that we could not possible stay in the room. The manager (presume he was the manager) was so rude that we replaced the key and left. All all of my years through online bookings, this was the very worst experience !!
• tony (4/5): Find something else. - Not very friendly staff at check in ...if your really stuck for some where to stay then it would do.
• Phoebe (6/5): Affordable city accommodation - Was perfect for our stay, needed overnight stay for a concert at the arena. This was ideal location and great price!
• Tom (2/5): Yeah Nah - The location is good and that's where the positives stop. Couldn't get past the stench of wet soiled nappies in this room that made my eyes water it was that strong. Overall very shabby room with cracked light fittings, lights that didn't work and doors that wouldn't stay closed (real basic stuff). I didn't expect much for the price but was still underwhelmed.
• Lara (4/5): Questionable - Arrived and was greeted by a grumpy and rude staff member, who I believe was the manager. At first glance, our room looked decent, but upon looking more closely we found stains on nearly every surface (carpet, duvet cover, table cloth, etc.). Neither the bathroom or toilet door locked or even shut properly - both could be opened simply by pushing the door. No ventilation in the room as the only windows that actually opened were facing out into the corridor rather than outside; the latches on both of these were broken so we could not lock them, meaning someone could have easily pulled it open from the corridor and climbed in. The towels were far from the white that I assume they once were. Also, none of the channels on the TV worked. Other than that, the room was comfortable, and was fine for us for a one night stay.
• Verified traveler (4/5): - The room is small for the size of the bed inside it. The door between the bathroom / shower area would not slide closed easily. This room would not be suitable for a couple as there is very little space to sit other than on the bed. I didn't think the room was all that clean compared with others I have stayed in. The price was ok and its location was handy to where I needed to be and a number of pleasant eating / entertainment venues.

• Elaine (10/5): Awesome Dude - It was awesome. I had had a terrible experience at Kiwi International Hotel at 411 Queen St and was left in the unenviable position of needing to find accommodation late in the day. Most fortunate for me the lodge had a spare room. The owner even gave me 3.50 for the bus to Spark Stadium. A very very nice chap. I would recommend this place to anyone. It is not the ritz but is warm, and comfortable with a great shower AAAA++++

• Sven (2/5): What a Dive! - Thank god it was only me (as opposed to having brought my wife) and all I needed was a bed and a shower... the room was ok (just) but the corridors of the hotel were full of clutter and junk and the staff member's english that bad that i couldn't figure out what I was being told. I don't mind basic, but this was chaotic and badly managed.

• jules (2/5): Dirty room and angry manager - Stayed during the fog crisis in desperation arriving at 1.45am. Bathroom filthy with stains in the toilet and bed was gross. Had to sleep on top of blankets. Manager not helpful and rude!

We booked this last minute accomodation during Adele concert weekend when prices were crazy. Room was quiet and comfy, great central location. Room was huge and accommodated 2 adults and 2 kids going to the concert perfectly! Don't expect 5 stars but I enjoyed

• Verified traveler (4/5): Good location - The hotel was in a good location with great restaurants across the road, the cleaners need replacing and the room needed updating, the wifi was the slowest ever but the old man running the place was lovely.
• Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible place to stay - We booked two nights and only stayed one, when we walked into the room there was a lady still vacuuming which wasn't a very good job. There was food in the microwave from the people before, there was rubbish under the beds. The towels in the bathroom smelt awful. The bed lining needs to be thrown in the bin its stained brown and smelt mouldy. There were spiders and cobwebs in every corner of the room.

• J (4/5): Unwelcoming - Owner couldn't find our booking (had it under the wrong name) and when he finally did, he grumbled to us about the way booking sites don't do the bookings properly, don't give information etc. He said he didn't know there were 4 of us (I paid a surcharge for person #4 when we pre booked a month ago) and that he didn't know we'd asked for a room as close to ground floor if possible (I'm in a wheelchair and have been transitioning to using crutches) The room was on the 3rd floor with only stair access. When asked if there was anything else more suitable, we were told "Well you can always go find another hotel". There were mattresses and bedding in the hallways. Service was horrendous
• very happy pers (2/5): Central that's all it had - Owner abused me on arrival as I had changed the days having had spoken to him in person and he basically called me a liar. He over talked and would not listen and was in credibly rude and had my husband and I very worried. No apology and we were at fault when in fact we were not. We booked via Expedia payment and he abused them as well - just horrendous
• John (2/5): Booked for convenience of transport. - Extremely disappointed in overall condition of Lodge. Entranceways and hallways filthy. Room -extremely dirty, toilet and basin filthy on arrival. Floors ok, linen ok but overall cleanliness of room is the worst I have ever seen. Shower hopeless - temperature changes every few seconds, nowhere for soap etc. Did not see any Health and Safety Instructions so doubt it complies. Light bulbs not working, Wads of dust on all ledges and shelves. WiFi hopeless. Had we not prepaid and needed to be handy to buses etc we would have moved immediately. Did not see any staff during our stay.
• Verified traveler (4/5): - Smelly room.. and you get a bit of everything. Basically, none of the consumables is enough even for a one night stay. Not happy at all!
• Verified traveler (2/5): Dirty - avoid - Filthy with holes in the walls. Fly grime on the bathroom ceiling and the bathroom door actually came off the rails! Did not feel safe or clean at all. No one was at reception, they left a key under the mat and again weren't there to check out. Super grimy, curtains were gross and falling off. Lots of broken furniture around, and super noisy. Would never stay again.

• Verified traveler (4/5): Nice size room, but, that's it. - Not clean, very dirty and uncomfortable. Reception was very hard to get hold of. Cleaning staff tried to get into our room without warning, just unlocking the door and walking in. No respect of privacy, so much so that they walked in through the lounge into the bathroom where my wife was showering! 100% unacceptable!

• Verified traveler (2/5): No value for money - This is based in a beautiful suburb but the motel does not match the standard. Inside we found that the carpet had not been cleaned! Bits of food in corners. The style and color was so ugly that we left ripped off! Paid 150 dollars but it was worth $50. The owner looked like he was so poor, dressed like a poor person but drove a flash car. I would not recommend this motel to anyone. It needs to be upgraded and styled to match the standard of the suburb.

We booked a room on the internet just past 10 pm Thursday night for the 27th - 28th Jan ( so we thought ) but when I got the inteniery back it showed the dates of the 26th - 27th ! What !!! We definitely did not punch those dates in ! So to change those dates became a major drama . Anyway to cut a very long story short when we did finally get hold of the manager he would not refund our money ( as we had already paid ) or give us another room on the dates we booked for as we had to be on a flight back to Australia on the 28 th Jan . Note the time of the booking was after 10pm so he very well probably would not have rented the room anyway . Anyway in our book given the circumstances it would have been no skin off his nose to refund our money . So basically he stole our money for nothing in return . So.... he not only was rude and unhelpful but a thief as well !!! We are just thankful we never had to meet him !!! Thank goodness the booking company last minute.com. came to the rescue And refunded our money . Thank you Said ! From Kerry and Darren .

• Bruce (4/5): Very noisy hotel in central location - Far too noisy with people coming and going at all hours; talking and laughing and carrying on :( The actual hotel was fine (physically) but we got very little sleep (the manager didn't say anything to anyone all night) We assume this happens every Saturday night but it could have been a one off night.... Also the parking wasn't very well organised though the manager did try and help with it.

There were other guests staying who banged on our door in the night and stayed up talking loudly outside until approx. 6am. Overall it was a very bad experience.

• Jill (2/5): Convenient position Office stunk Maintenance need - I could barley stand in the office the smell was so bad. as for the room lights didn't work. A power point was broken. The water didn't go down the sink, actually sewage came up. The beds were comfortable and the linen seemed clean otherwise we wouldn't have stayed.
• Jo (6/5): Easy walking to shops, on bus routes, filthy rooms - Stayed 2 nights. Their is limited parking so you can be blocked in until someone moves. There was months of build up of dust and food under the beds, and the bathroom was filthy (When this was pointed out to the owner he did not seem to care). Location was handy to the city by bus plenty of places to eat in walking distant. Lovely view from the window. It was easy to get in and out of despite been on a busy intersection. The tea, coffee and milk were not replaced for second nights stay, and no cleaning was done during our stay. Very disappointing for the price paid.
• J (6/5): Location, convenience, & a place to lay your head - This place looks like it is undergoing renovations currently. Lots of bits and pieces lying around, but no sign of any contractors. Our room was uninspiring. Upstairs rooms may have a view of the harbour though. Great location. Pay for what you get... this place is a 'backpackers', not a motel/hotel. Stay here for the location and convenience, not because you want to stay in luxury and have room to swing a cat. Bed was comfy though.
• Peter (2/5): Not clean - We were not impressed with the cleanliness of this room. I woke during the night covered in bites. The bedding looked like it could do with a good soak or perhaps thrown out. The bathroom was extremely tired looking with a lot of mould in the tiles.
