K1743MDdianeh (10/5): Superb little place - We stayed in a spa studio room 8 for 3 nights. Fast efficient check in. Lovely room with distant views of the lake. A very comfortable bed. Nice to have a sofa to sit on . Nice decor. Kitchen had everything needed for a quick snack. Spotlessly clean . 15 mins walk into town along lake front . A convenience store opposite and a cafe. Can't fault it.

We made a big mistake and he went well above and beyond with us and handled what could have been a very stressful situation for us very professionally and with kindness. We made a mistake when booking, and thought we had booked two nights, but had only booked one. This meant we didn't checkout when we should have, and we couldn't do so when he rang us as we were at an event we couldn't leave. This meant the manager had to shift all our gear out himself (of which there was a whole heap for various reasons e.g. Murphy's law!). He could have rightly got very angry about this, or demanded we come back and remove our items ourselves straight away, but instead he just said no problem and sorted it for us. He even refused a gift of money from us for the inconvenience we had caused. So once again, a huge thankyou to the owner. We will definitely be back (and we won't muck up the booking next time!) I should also add that our room was very nice and spacious, and location was very handy.

Gerard (8/5): it's ok. - The Ascott is an older style motel. The room was large, however the was not enough space to put your luggage except the floor. There were good drapes, so the room was dark at night, which helps with sleeping. the unit was clean apart from a few ants in the bath room

Adhithi (8/5): Very spacious in a great location - Our 2 bedroom apartment was very spacious and had everything we needed during our stay. Beds were very comfortable and clean with beautiful lake views. Our daughter loved the spa bath! Location was fantastic! Just a small walk to the lake and shops were one jump away. Parking with a good apartment was an added advantage when you are on a road trip. Famous Huka fall was 6 minutes drive and lake Taupo was rich with water sports.

Couple negatives- Spa bath had to be filled with shower head- something wrong with the tap. Queen bed super hard, and not overly comfortable. Tea and coffee cheap brands and unpalatable. Overall ok but pricey given what else is available in the area.

There wasn’t enough cutlery and plates for 6 (they did bring more when asked). If we were 4 it would have been good but for what we paid for 6 people, it wasn’t great.

Sherpa538728 (4/5): uncomfortable bed, unclean room - First the pros: The room is spacious, Parking was available. The location is quiet and close to town centre. Shampoo and conditioner were good quality now the cons: The room was not clean. There were water and other marks on the glass enclosure to the shower and on the walls around the shower. I washed the tub before using it since there was some sort of grime on it. There was a rust mark on the toilet. The floor in the bathroom was not clean. I washed the dish and coffee cup and cutlery that I used because they were not clean. The microwave is v old. It is one of those that you rotate the dial and have to use the timer on your phone and then manually turn off. The worst part of the stay, however, was the bed. The mattress was shot. It was lumpy...I could not find a place to sleep that did not dent and that I did not feel springs. When I sent a message the next morning the manager came up and referred to a mattress topper but there was none. It might have made a difference, but a mattress topper would not be sufficient to make this mattress comfortable. It needs to be replaced. I envy the people who commented positively on their stay at this hotel. Clearly, they did not stay in room 8.

Nicole_SIN1986 (8/5): Room No.7 - Clean and modern! - Clean, modern (compared to many in NZ), lovely room. My kids were so happy at the sight of our room no.7 on the upper floor! Convenient location walkable to some shops. If you’re hunting for by the lake views u can consider Boulevard Waters (stayed there too) but this was more than sufficient for us. Contented! We will be back!

Only a short distance from the town. Good value. Sky TV with several channels. Well soundproofed from units next door.

Jan (10/5): - We were lucky to secure this wonderful room at the last minute. Assuming it was a cancellation due to Ironman going on down the street. The room was comfortable with a nice bed and shower and a kitchenette. It was perfect for a 1 night stay!
Kathleen (6/5): Run down motel - The staff does the best they can, but this hotel is in need of an upgrade. Even just getting new beds and bedding would go a long way. In the evenings there were ants and one hut (maybe a beetle?) later that night. Request a room on a higher floor if you don’t want risk of that. It didn’t feel clean to me due to all this, even though it was cleaned up. I didn’t like staying here and wouldn’t do so again. Location was good though- even without having a car. 15 minute walk from bus stop, and city scooter system in town was helpful.
