Guest Reviews
- Siddhartha (6/5): - Water leak on entry to the property.
- Mia (10/5): - Great
- Troijarra (8/5): - Plum Apartments (North Melb) was the ideal spot for a short stay in Melbourne. Easy to get to and from the CBD, walking distance to shops, trams stops right outside and quiet neighbourhood.
Some down sides to the place; unserviced toilet (I wasn’t notified about this upon arrival) - the refill tube/float/valves in the toilet tank were broken and a plastic straw was fitted under the float rod to stop it from over flowing. so you’d have to manually refill the tank to flush every time.
Other than that, everything was fine and comfortable
- Muhammad (10/5): - Clean room . Very comfortable
- Sharlene (8/5): - Comfortable apartment in a good location. The bed was great and the apartment had most things needed for a stay. A few down sides, the fridge froze everything which meant the milk they supplied was frozen then curdled on defrost, also me t the fridge was useless. If I had have know there was no lift I would have asked for a ground floor apartment as I have a disability.
- Belinda (6/5): - The apartment was spacious, the bed was comfortable, the shower was terrific and the location in North Melbourne was handy and close to public transport. The kitchen was functional and seemed to be well equipped, but I didn't use it much.
I was in a groundfloor apartment which was close to the road and footpath, so it was a little noisy at times.
I was grateful for the bars over the windows which helped me feel secure.
There was an ironing board, but no iron, and a hairdryer with a foreign plug, so I couldn't use that. Overall, not bad and I might stay again but possibly in a different apartment.
- Joanne (4/5): - This property does not have a lift so I had to drag my suitcase up a flight of stairs. The room I was given was dusty, the TV did not work because it had the wrong power cord and the toilet was broken. When I spoke to management on the phone (not onsite btw) they were unapologetic and expected me to wait for repairs until next day! They moved me to a smaller room where the roadworks outside kept me awake. I had to wait outside for thirty minutes for someone to drop a new key because their electronic app to open the door did not work. I cannot recommend anything about this accommodation. Avoid it!
- Bernadete (8/5): - I liked the property, close to the tram, easy walking to and from it. The location is great. I don't know if the doona was washed before I used it. There were some stains on it.
- Glen (6/5): - The check in via an app was a bit unsettling (wondering if it wont work) but admittedly it did work on the day.
Arrived to find the laundry unusable as someone had broken the door handle off.
The shower head falls down completely at times, we were lucky we didnt get knocked out by it.
Fridge froze all the food we'd brought so we had to throw half of it out.
Air con wasnt working well, has a mind of its own.
Apart from that it was a clean place and plenty of room.
Otherwise the interior was nice
- Warren (4/5): - Average , better around .
- Nic (2/5): - Could not access the property and there is no one to call.
A total waste of money
- Jake (10/5): - perfect for someone visiting melbourne for the first time
- Jamie (4/5): - It was dirty
- Vanessa (6/5): - It had an odour and the walls were very thin.
- Arabella (6/5): - overall was a good location. lack of communication on how to check in. black hair was found on bed (i am a blonde) and heater didn’t work
- Khalid (10/5): - very spacious and clean all round was perfect will come back again
- Suzanne (4/5): - The title of the property is misleading. Whilst it claims that the apartments are serviced- this is not true- we stayed for 5 nights and the apartment was untouched throughout that time. Definitely no daily housekeeping was carried out and toiletries etc were never topped up.
Also the 24/7 service desk is again not true. We arrived at the place at around 6.30pm and there weren't any staff on site. We had to negotiate a lock box that we only achieved with help from some other people staying there Our stay was complicated as prior to arriving in Melbourne I received a text message (which I suspected was spam as it did not address me by name), telling us to go to 16 Arden Street, whereas all of our booking information said we were staying at Swanston Street.
We were only given one key, which caused some issues on the days that we visited different locations
The apartment was none too clean and the couch had white stains all over it. In addition, there were no instructions on how to use the television, the dishwasher or the heater and really no information about where the laundry was or luggage storage etc.
Before going on holiday we are careful to choose places that fit our needs and it is disappointing and unfair when the information provided is incorrect as we are elderly.
- Patrick (8/5): - Great location and value for money, spacious apartment style accommodation and seamless mobile app entry system. Would definitely stay again!
- Melissa (6/5): - Apartment was on second floor. Window is stuck open so very noisy from traffice an tram. Unable to use heater and tv as battieries flat in controller.
- Teretimana (6/5): - The heater wasnt working so they bought me a oil heater
- Tia (10/5): - No complaints at all was very happy with stay!
- Teretimana (8/5): - Room was on second floor
- Teretimana (6/5): - Keyless entry
Comfortable bed
Spacious though dining area was cold, because heater was in bedroom instead of lounge room
Shower was good
Nobody on property theyre all in Carlton
Washing machine goes
Dryer does not
Samsung smart tv
- Terence (4/5): - Room next door had a n attempted robbery key system and the fact that there is no one to call in case of problems
- domenic (8/5): - Great location
- Chris (6/5): - Older unit in reasonable condition however rodent faeces was found in the sofa bed, which whilst advertised was not made up with bedding. The button on the toilet cistern is not fixed in place, there are paint splashes on the clear screen in the bathroom, the bathroom door is misaligned and does not shut properly and the shower screen needs cleaning. Deleting and re-downloading the app to gain electronic entry to the room/unit was not ideal at 130 am and if you number the room 15 B in the documentation please have 15B on the room. I won’t be staying there again
- Xavier (2/5): Not staying here again - I requested early check in a day in advance, which was approved over the phone. When I arrived at the apartment, I was told it wasn’t ready and to come back an hour later. When I returned, the room still was not clean. There was rubbish and ants crawling around. The previous guests had also left chewed up gum on the bedside table.

- Darren (6/5): Average - Room was suitable for the stay but quite dated. Had an outdoor area that looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in a while.
We were there for 4 days and no replenishing of amenities. Door didn’t close and some guy turned up unannounced to check on the place.
- Ebonie (8/5): - Overall property was great for price however overall the room needed a deep clean with the shower being mouldy and thick dust on windows. Off street parking was close, easily accessible and free. The communication is shocking with instructions being different to what is actually required. Instructions need to be updated.
- Marilyne (8/5): - Not being familiar with no reception and having to use phone to enter for late arrival, gentleman in charge was extremely helpful and we accessed our room easily.
- Bonnie (8/5): - The water pressure is excellent. Trams are straight across the road. The reverse air conditioner is excellent with out it you would freeze,
One thing that is lacking, the ability to have a number of keys to the accommodation. Plum ask you to download an app however they can only have one phone number, not good when one is in hospital and needs their mobile to stay in contact with love ones and the spouse not being able to have access due to one number rule. Very frustrating.
- John Wheldon (6/5): - The communication was terrible. Did not answer emails, did not answer phone calls, did not return calls
- Jason (4/5): - I am sorry but a I cannot recommend due to the inconvenient check in process (in Carlton, not North Melbourne) and very noisy position with tram and road noise. The room was large but tired with leaking fridge and AC did not work. TV was small and poorly installed on the wall.
- Adrian (2/5): - No information on booking that reception is at another location in Melbourne. Phone number on door not answered. App is used to access room, app works intermittently. If one of our party was not already in room we would not have been able to access. Something had leaked in room (shower? fridge? AC? sink?), more than half of the carpet was soaking wet. Room smelled very strongly of mold and damp. Not recommended.
- Susie (6/5): - Great location.
Check in was tricky - online key did not work.
No bedding for our child
- Lachlan (10/5): - Very nice place to stay. Very spacious and definitely would come again
- Robert (8/5): - Easy transport to city. Good value for money.
- sean (10/5): - i'll be booking there again
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Poor cleaning of unit as the microwave oven was not working because as we found out the person before us left their potatoes in the microwave with a date of 29/6. Heat pump not working and no bathroom sink plug. Very noisey throughout the night so extremely disappointed and would never stay there again and would advise others to look elsewhere.
- Cyn (10/5): - Great location great price and cute apartments.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location and very good price for an appartement very close to the CBD
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No towels provided. Excessive holding fee for entry cards ($300) and still not cleared from my credit card 4 days later
- Miguel (10/5): - Very private and conveniently located to my area of interest.
- Kerrie (6/5): - Postion not bad, but street parking. Room was nice and big. Disappointed when opened door and could smell stale smoke thru out the room, did not like it so went out and bought a smell fresh. Made it a bit better. Flooring cover in kitchen needs replacing. Over all i would rate it a 3 out 5.
- Donald (10/5): - The property was clean and quiet and they fitted in the cleaning to suit my hours as I was working afternoon shift
- Raj (6/5): - The property is very old and not maintained as required. Carpet is too old et .
- Tracy (8/5): - Good location , close to tram stop which made it easy to access the city . Easy to get key via app .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My 2nd time to stay at plums. Very excellent service with a very good value of my money and not to mention the tram stop is infront of your doorstep.
Again, north Melbourne is lucky to have plums as one of their hotels.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - At first I was reluctant to get this property due to the reviews but seeing the facility first hand I was quite happy and satisfied with my choice. Starting from the easy transfer of communication to the staff via email, to the easy and state of the art check-in system, to the room space and most importantly the value for my money. North Melbourne is lucky to have plums as one of their hotels very near CBD and accessible to tram stop right next to your door. I'll be happy to stay here again.
- Beau (2/5): - Doesn’t look nothing like the photos
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No hot water on arrival and no extra sheets for the fold out bed
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Noise from trams and traffic. Air conditioner wasn't working
- Mahshid (8/5): - The place was nice, quiet and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No parking had to move car every 2 hours during the day
- SG (6/5): - Great location, right next tram stop.
Close to Zoo and Children’s Hospital
- L (2/5): - This place sux. First we were given swipe access to the wrong room which we only realised after entering their room and seeing occupants things everywhere. We were then let in to the room we had been allocated, but I still had swipe access to the other room for the remaining 7days of our stay. Noice. The next night it became apparent that our room had been unlocked for a full 24hrs without us realising.
The queen bed was just 2 single beds pushed together and the toilet door didn't shut. Oh the romance!!!!
Eventually we asked to move to another room which they provided promptly but the next room, while better, also sucked! No shelving, no towel racks, not enough pillows, the ironing board only goes to about 2ft off the ground and there was only 1 fork. Sounds small and unimportant but the 1 fork was just classic....
Should be said that the staff were great given the crap they're working with.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - did not like the pricing.
when booked through Wotif i understood the rate was $99.00 per night for 2 nights and i was debited on 4 feb for $230.86.
am i mistaken on the rate i booked through Wotif
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It’s just what we wanted double glazing would reduce the road noise
Could walk into town
- Peter (8/5): nice and handy - the area is great.lots of restaurants and close to queen victoria market.public transport outside front door very handy.parking monday to friday only 2 hours up to 6.30pm.so either go out for day or move your car every 2 hours.tv was not working but was fixed very quickly along with lights in bathroom.shops also close by.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Small dingy dirty walls n window sills mould in the shower. Only thing going for it is the location. Very disappointed not at all like the pictures on the website.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property was clean & comfortable. Close to cafes & bars. Easy to get into the city by public transport.
- Jared (8/5): - Great location with really cool bars and restaurants within walking distance. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed and a fold out couch.
- Jo (8/5): - Great value and very good location. Recommend these appartments.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not as good as the pictures and description beware - The room looked lovely in the pictures online but when I arrived at the room I was very disappointed to see what I had booked, it was quite dirty especially in the kitchen and bathroom and the musky smell of the room was not pleasant, the heater on the wall was so blocked with dust it hardly blew any air and the portable heater they had there didn't even work, when I notified reception I was given a "couldn't care less response" he didn't seem to care or even want to hear what I was saying, the reception staff were the rude, with a who cares attitude towards my requests, the most unpleasant experience I've had in Melbourne hotels
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good value for money, but beds are very uncomfortable. They need to spend some money on decent mattresses and pillows.
- Jim (8/5): - Pleasant and close to everything
- Peter (10/5): Great reasonably priced apartments - I stayed 4 nights in Apartment 2 on my own, Monday - Friday. I was happy with most things - the apartment was clean and had pretty much everything (except an egg slice). It was comfortable and very reasonable priced.
Parking was difficult.
The cleaners weren't very good at filling up things. They took my cleaning cloth for the kitchenette and didn't replace it for the whole trip, which was inconvenient. They didn't refill the little hair shampoo bottle in the 4 days I was there - small things I know, but nevertheless ...
These things aside, I would recommend this place 100%
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Man at check in location was not wearing shoes. The room stunk of smoke and we had 2 single beds for the first night. The floor felt sticky and the hot water ran out.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Ideal location for Etihad stadium plenty of bars near by pain in the rear getting in originally with the keyless entry but once sorted swipe card is good
Parking out the front but only a 2 p area so had to keep moving the car to different places but overall the apartment was ok
- Josee (6/5): very tired looking apartment! - the apartment was very tired! cleanliness questionable: bathroom floor was full of long brown hairs from previous guests... ironing board didn't lift to the max, there was no hair dryer... walls in desperate need of paint... but the staff were friendly, location was good for us
- Tina (2/5): Was the worst accommodation we have stayed in, - room was stuffy we opened the windows for fresh air and found 2 beer bottles full of cigarette buts.bed was uncomfortable could not get a good nights sleep with outside noise, traffic ect.could hear people moving around on the floor above us and we had to go to another address to pick up keys .
- Nads (2/5): Not great - Smelt like cigarettes, old and tired interior. Staff could have been more communicative and confident. Seemed flustered and nervous.
- Tomy (8/5): Good stay - Very surprised with rooms and a great location for restaurants and close to the city
- Simon (4/5): Great location, terrible stench - Great for location however I just could not get over the odour in the rooms and the building, was so overwhelmingly pungent. It would really help with the stay if this got sorted.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Spacious room, however noisy with a funny smell. - We arrived Melbourne fairly late, late check in available (however you have to collect your keys at somewhere else, as there is no reception available at Plum North Melbourne). We were given room 1 (ground floor, first room from the entrance).
We turned on the air con, and not long after we having an allergic reaction.. probably the air con filter should get clean regularly.
The room is spacious, with a in room washing machine. However with a ?peanut butter/ caramel smell..
The bed is fairly comfortable, apart from the noise as our room is right next to the highway, and we were sneezing throughout the night due to dust allergies.
Very easy to find offstreet parking.
- Jason (4/5): I won't stay here again - Room was quite large and clean.
However a few things not great:
1. You have to pick up your key/pass card from Carlton!
2. The location is EXTREMELY NOISY!
3. Lack of a full set of crockery.
I definitely won't stay here again.
- Alexander K. (6/5): 3 stars - Not quite as fancy as the pictures and the room given was different than the pictures. A little rundown but overall I would recommend it!
- Elizabeth (8/5): Good value for money & close to facilities in NM - It was a great getaway!
We will definitely return to experience the charm of staying in a Victorian building within one of Melbourne's oldest suburbs. It was more interesting than staying in one of the modern hotels and great value & very comfortable :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location - Easy to access public transport. Close to cafes and comfortable room
- Henning (6/5): please send a RECEIPT for monies paid - no manned-desk. no staff. no receipt.
to have to go miles away just to get the key is nonsense.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Dark, dirty, no parking - Had to pick up keys at another location. Booked for two nights only stayed one. Didn't feel safe on my own. Only street parking, two hour parking in the street up to 6pm. Had to move car 6am. Worst offer I've ever taken. Never again.
- Jared (8/5): Great location - Great trip away for the weekend. Fantastic location - close to public transport and a lot of restaurants and bars.
- Rob (10/5): Close to the tram line yet quiet . - Great studio apartment. Trendy and comfortable . Avoid using the washer dryer if you want to watch TV. - too noisy. The courtyard could do with a good clean and a plant or two. Suited us cause it's just around the corner from family , on the tram line and has parking. We'll be back!
- Nicole B. (8/5): Good but watch US$ booking - We very much enjoyed the apartment, big and clean. Just watch that you don't get changed in US dollars.
- Wen (4/5): Very disappointing - Aside from discovering on arrival that there is no reception and we needed to go elsewhere to collect the keys, which was not mentioned on Wotif at the time of booking. The receptionist said they had spoken to Wotif a number of times, but nothing had been done. The room, when we got inside was dismal. Whilst it had certainly been cleaned, the carpet was badly stained, and the sofa and chair were so dirty looking I didn't want to sit on them. There was also a strong, unpleasant smell in the room like off food or rancid cooking oil. It was particularly strong around the cooktop and refrigerator, but wafted all around the room. Bed and pillows were not particularly comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent value for money. - Great location with tram stops just outside the door. Reception and key pick up is at another apartment block about 2 km away but good support by phone. Clean and functional space.
- Peter (8/5): - did not stay at Plum North Melb' no off street parking, stayed at Plum Swanson Street Apartments with parking.
Very Good ,Friendly service and no problems transferring our booking and providing an extra bed when our daughter turned up while I was in hospital.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Average - The room was not cleaned. Needs a new coat of paint on the walls and the lounge was dirty as, the carpet needs to be redone. It wasnt comfortable knowing that the place needed so much work done on it. However the bed was so comfortable
- Bobby (4/5): Location is perfect - next to tram line gets you everywhere easily. Very basic but met our needs. We arrived Friday - left Monday so had to make do with same towels all weekend as there was no room service - that was disappointing. Extra towels for weekend stay would be a good idea.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice hotel but to much road noise - It's a good facility but the road noise was loud. No iron board in the room.
- Les (4/5): - Reception not at hotel and very poor customer service i won't there again.
- Bella (8/5): - When I arrived there was a problem with the room I was assigned and the lovely staff gave me a free upgrade immediately and took care of everything. Great customer service and apartment was clean, well maintained and close to the city
- Claire (8/5): - We liked it - it is in my partner's neighbourhood anyway, so it was home away from home.
The only things against it -
1) as it is an older building, the floors in the hallway creaked every time someone walked past, and
2) having to go into Carlton to check in and collect the keys was annoying, especially as my partner lives directly around the corner, and there was no warning for this when booking. I only found out when I read the fine print of the confirmation email (which I normally never do...)
- Dave (4/5): Really noisy location. No effort to sound insulate - The apartments are located on a busy corner and are right onto the street. There is a lot of heavy vehicles from early in the morning yet the windows are made with cheap, thin glass. They need to be replaced with double glazing before anyone will choose to stay here and get nights sleep. They have just been cheap in the fit-out.
There are apartments on the other side that will be quieter but I doubt you get one unless you specifically ask.
- Michael (2/5): The start of a bizarre weekend - My experience at the Plum was to say the least quite interesting. We arrived at our room to find six other people, two of them laying in the bed and the other floor sitting around smoking and drinking. They quickly packed up and left when we walked in suggesting the hotel must have double booked. I reported the incident to the police. We were forced to seek out alternative accommodation as the after hours for the hotel weren't answering the phone. Spoke with the booking manager the next day who was apologetic. We cancelled the extra night choosing to stay where we were the previous night. Wotif organised a prompt refund. I emailed the owners of the hotel explaining what had happened but haven't heard anything from them which I find very disappointing.
- Samad (8/5): - I feel at home, all of the equipment and devices are available in the apartment. but i dont enjoy for searching anything about Melbourne because no free wi-fi.
- Farina (10/5): Convenient - A great place to stay, close to the 57 tram stop, easy work to Nth Melbourne shops and restaurants. Clean, comfortable and convenient. We visited Melbourne for our daughter's Uni graduation, it was perfectly situated for this.
- Doctor (4/5): Bring ear plugs and a plan for other accommodation - Required to pick keys up about 2km away. Situated next to tram line and i stayed in the studio which had paper thin walls. Very very noisy. Doors slamming around the residence seemed to go all night ever night for the wk i stayed there. Internet was down and after repeated calls to the staff, still didnt receive replies as to when it was up and running again. Intermittent room service which simply meant hanging up new towel +/- making bed. In reasonable location but look elsewhere first!!
- Jennifer (8/5): Convenient and self contained. - Room, although dated provided everything I needed for my stay, including cooking facilities, frig, washer and dryer. I was very comfortable and felt safe on my own. Only downside was that there was plenty of street parking but it was a two hour limit during week days.
