- DENIS (4/5): OLDER STYLE MOTEL AT A VERY REASONABLE, COMPETITIVE PRICE BUT WITH PROBLEMS - An older style motel with well used fixtures although everything worked. Clean good size unit with comfortable bed, working TV, fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, small table and 2 chairs and lounge. Good hot shower. Small size bathroom with the smallest, impractical washbasin I have seen in a motel. My main complaint relates to my booking request which was made nearly 7 weeks in advance - "In view of a problem hip, can I please request down stairs unit away from traffic. Thank you." Reply from motel "We are pleased to let you know that the accommodation has confirmed they will be able to arrange this for you." However upon arrival we were allocated an upstairs room, using steep outside stairs (luckily only carried a small overnight bag and it was not raining) to a unit on the corner of the building overlooking a busy intersection. When I requested an alternative unit was told by reception that the motel was booked out when in fact there was only a handful of vehicles there, both in the evening and in the morning and I observed at least 1 unused ground floor unit away from traffic. Do not appreciate being lied to. Ironically, subsequently received a message from motel "thank you for your recent visit to the Aussie Rest Motel. It was truly a pleasure to serve you! Every Guest is a Valued Guest".
- Steven (8/5): Great Value Hotel Close to the Wineries - The young lady at the desk was very friendly and helpful. The room was quite large with two beds.Having a fridge, kettle and microwave was useful. There were no bedsife lamps. A cleaner tried to come into the room at 9.30 when I was clearly still there, watching TV before my first wine tasting at 10.

- Sue (8/5): Up to expectations at this price point. We would stay again. - Price point is good for basic facilities - all that we required. Cleanliness was excellent!
Very convenient to the pub and shopping centre without being overly noisy. All as expected and experience by us on a previous occasion.

- James (7/5): -
- Christopher (8/5): Touring - Very clean & easy access
- Carrie (8/5): -
- Marley (4/5): - How close it was to the hunter Valley.
Reception was lovely. Shower door was broken
Main bedroom was uncomfortable ( lumpy)
Small lounge room I only two people at the time. ( the apartment was for family)
- Carly (6/5): - Close to the hotel and quiet. The bathroom needed an upgrade and shower was broken.
- Debbie (8/5): Convenient, cheap accommodation option for a night or two. - Convenient location. Friendly staff. Close to conveniences, food, shops etc. Bed was comfortable. Dated, older motel - bit grubby, but generally clean. Located behind a busy hotel adjacent to a busy main road, so if noise bothers you this should be considered - price to pay for convenient location.
- Catherine (7/5): - It was comfortable and clean and a good location for the Hunter Valley tour that I had booked (which picked me up from the Motel). A microwave and fridge, along with tea and coffee supplies and a kettle were provided in the room, but it would have been good to have some other basic cutlery and crockery too as, although the information said there was a kitchen, it seemed to be off the reception area and therefore not accessible once the reception was closed (from early evening until check-out time), which meant I couldn’t get cutlery and crockery for my dinner and breakfast (and had to improvise with the mug and teaspoon provided!)
- Sal (10/5): Absolutely loved it - Friendly staff and freshly painted rooms.Clean and comfortable beds
- Sharon (4/5): Can do better - Location. Parking. Outdated. Old towels.
Wood rotten bathroom door.
Dirty blinds & windows.
Pool water was terrible.
Previous tenant goods left in bathroom.
- Suzanne (9/5): - It was closed to where we need to be The shower needed to be renewed
- Kylie (10/5): I would definitely recommend Aussie Rest motel, Cessnock. Staff were super friendly, helpful and welcoming. Great locati - Close and convenient to everything
- MAUREEN (10/5): Location, location! - Location and close to eateries and shops. The shower in our room only had a shower curtain and completely wet the bathroom floor!
- Rikki (7/5): -
- doddsy73 (8/5): -
- Madonna (4/5): Was pleased to checkout. - Bed was comfortable but don't look inside the pillow case!! Long vertical window in bathroom had missing slat on the blind so patrons of the adjoining hotel had great view into bathroom when they went to the carpark. Second bed in room was covered with long black hair. Fortunately the bed I used had no such extras.

- Sandra (6/5): Good location for pub and concert transport - Good location for pickup to concert at Roche Estate and right next to the Australian Hotel for easy dinner. Comfortable and clean bed. Bathroom seriously dated, must be from 80s? Best efforts by cleaning staff to keep clean but hard for them given its age. Decor was interesting - we had the orange room. But suited us for the short time we spent in the room itself.
Expensive for what it is.
- Shanta (10/5): - Welcoming Staff and Quick Check-in, Room was neat and clean and Bed was very comfortable. Parking in front of Room. Definitely stay again. Nothing
- Carriage (10/5): -
- Matthew (5/5): - Room was well kept, staff was great Shower facilities were not the greatest, however was ok for the two nights stay.
- lee-anne s (6/5): -
- Peter (10/5): A great comfortable stay in Cessnock. - Loved the colour themes in the rooms. Bed was comfy. Room was very clean. Airconditioning was silent.
- lee-anne s (7/5): - Parking outside your room .Quiet Dust dust dust especially in bathroom window vent and behind tv and on furnishings
- MAUREEN (8/5): Cessnock time - Location to Cessnock CBD, a pub next door for dinner, clean room, comfortable bed, friendly staff, well priced Curtains did not close properly, water leaks in the bathroom, lots of dust on furniture, only 1 spare toilet roll
- Yavar (8/5): -
- Karen (8/5): -
- Kok How (8/5): -
- Janet (6/5): - Clean and tidy. Good location Too much furniture, for a disable unit. Very tight in places.
- Rosemary (7/5): - The bed was comfortable The room needed a thorough clean. There was dust on the ceiling fan, skirting boards and the shower had mould in the corners. There was only one bedside lamp
- Singla (10/5): Exceptional - New renovated rooms, Excellent staff, Location N/A
- Karyn (6/5): -
- Patrick (6/5): -
- shane (8/5): -
- Rebecca (10/5): -
- Rebecca (10/5): -
- Collett (7/5): Reasonable - Na One of the double beds had no springs and was extremely uncomfortable
- Suzanne (9/5): - Easy to access, quiet, excellent service and the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Nothing
- Donna (4/5): - The staff were very helpful. The manager was very interested in my concerns and was appreciative of the feedback. Very dated and needed lots of TLC. Not cleaned very well as it was very dusty and bins weren't emptied to the next guest.
- Judith (4/5): Serious Problems with this Motel. - This motel had an 8.4 rating which was one of the reasons we chose it, plus its relatively close location to town.
Check in was at 2:00pm so when we arrived at 2:15pm we were surprised to find the office locked and no one around. I called the 3 phone numbers left on the notice on the door, as it instructed me to should the office be unmanned. Two went to voice mail and the third’s mailbox was full so I couldn’t leave a message. I did leave a message on the other two. After about 10 minutes I received a callback letting me know someone would be there in 2-3 minutes. Then I received a second call saying they were on their way.
We were finally given our room and even though we were not overjoyed at the condition decided to stay or lose one night’s tariff.
I have included photos to show the condition of the bathroom and a couch that either needed an extreme clean or to be thrown out.
There was a plastic jug filled with water in the refrigerator that had black particles of who knows what, I shudder to think, floating in it. I emptied it and the particles clung to the sides.
The large trash bin in the grounds looked like it hadn’t been emptied in months.
The room, especially the bathroom, smelled of cigarette smoke.
Luckily the bed was comfortable, we were only staying 2 nights, and we went out during the day.
I would have told the manager about these issues when we checked out at 8:10am but the office was locked with no one about. It was supposed to be open at 8:00am.
- namjun (7/5): -
- Jai (8/5): -
- Natasha (8/5): -
- Senarathna (9/5): Superb -
- Takao (6/5): - Great location with easy access to local shops as well as wineries. The room we stayed was reasonably clean but the bedding needed some improvements where the blankets were not warm enough and the availability of extra blankets was limited. (The extra blankets that were given had some marks from old dirts even though we were told they had been washed)
- Steven (3/5): Unsuitable - I paid $249 for the room for one night. The carpet was stained, there were no bedside lamps, the bed was uncomfortable, the handle of the shower screen was broken and the verticals in the bathroom had Blue paint over them, the bin had no flap, and one vertical was missing I believe this hotel is being used by the Department of Housing to house the homeless. For an extra $30, I could have stayed at Rydges down the road.
- Joyce (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (8/5): Very good -
- Measday (7/5): Close to good food. - Clean and well set up close to everything. The pub meals were great too. The shower in room 7 water is barely a trickle. Otherwise all good.
- Jeffrey (5/5): Passable -
- Cox (6/5): Pleasant - Availability, proximity Some interesting clientele
- Dorothy (7/5): Good -
- Andrew (7/5): Good -
- Kellie (4/5): Great central location - Great location, close to a lot of things. Nice hot showers Room wasn't very clean there was an empty water bottle and teabags left behind a chair. The fridge wasn't turned on or plugged in when we arrived. Toaster in the room but no plates or knives. Advertised with mountain views could barely see the mountain. Tv only had a few channels that worked, had sound on other channels but no picture. Advertised as wheelchair friendly our room wasn't, so not sure if others are. No I didn't tell staff of the issues as we were in and out a lot and never seen anyone.
- Debra (10/5): Exceptional - It was in a great location central to everything
- Kuchavo (4/5): Disappointing - The only things which are good abt Aussie Rest Motel are 1) its location 2) the fact that it is not expensive 3) pre-payment is not required. Other than that, I can't see any advantages. I booked Deluxe King Room. The reality was very far from anything like that. The room definitely didn't look like Deluxe. It was quite shabby, the bedside tables were scratched, the carpeting was worn out, the shower wasn't in good condition either - the grouting looked awful and very messy, the ventilation duct on the ceiling was very dirty and dusty as if no one cleaned it for ages. The water pipes were probably so old that they were making quite a loud sound. The windows were so bad and thin that the sound proofing was almost nil. It took the reception years to find my booking in their system for some reason which raises a question of communication between Booking.com and the property. We had to find another room for night No 2 in Hunter Valley. I didn't want to stay in Aussie Rest Motel for another night. We booked another motel which was just a bit more expensive but much better although similar to Aussie Rest Motel in its structure and configuration which makes me think that we were not given a Deluxe King room in Aussie Rest Motel. It was definitely some other room of a lower class. I also didn't like the fact that Booking, com didn't mention that you have to pay a surcharge if paying by card at the property. The property needs a refurbishment 100%. It's no good that there's misinformation and customer are deceived by showing them nice pictures online which do not meet the reality. I was surprised by so many good reviews. Either they are too old or the customers were given better rooms.
- Rita (9/5): Clean and comfortable beds. - Clean and comfortable room (we had number 20) If I had to nitpick, the fan in the bathroom was in an odd position (over the toilet instead of over the shower? and I doubt it was working (could barely hear any fan noise) but otherwise it was all as expected.
- Maca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - The motel was spectacular with amazing staff who provided great information for around the area. Room was comfortable with all being fullfilled.
- Dezerae (4/5): CAREFUL
Small bits of wire found in carpet throughout familly room - Beds were comfortable. And water pressure and heat was good and consistent. For a family room there was very little bench space and except a teaspoon there was no utensils to prepare healthy nutritious meals and fruits and snacks
Plus finding multiple fine small pieces of wire throughout the room hidden in the carpet of which unfortunately I located with my bare feet but thanking my child did not.
- Janine (9/5): Superb -
- Deb (8/5): Very good - More utensils for tea/coffee making.Only one teaspoon in the room.
- Demi (8/5): Good location, clean, comfy motel - Comfy bed, good amenities
- Jacqueline (9/5): Superb -
- Stephen (8/5): Very good - Didn’t expect the quality that this was and excellent value for money if you need to stay in area. Entry Doors need re-sealing for light and sound.
- Oris (5/5): Only used it to sleep & shower in. - Convent location for what I needed. The room I stayed was very tired looking.
