Guest Reviews
- Arun (9/5): Excellent stay - Clean, spacious and kitchen well equipped. We were allowed early check in and late check out which our group loved. Old slow rotating fans and no dishwasher
- Shu-Hsun (8/5): -
- Pamela (8/5): -
- Jayne (10/5): - Owner went above and beyond to accommodate us.
- Giang (10/5): Great stay - A lovely place to stay. Katrina is so nice and helpful with my request. Highly recommended
- Mitsuru (10/5): Overall, we had a wonderful stay and really enjoyed our time with family and friends. Thank you so much to Katrina for a - We stayed here over New Year’s Eve with friends and family, and had a wonderful time. The accommodation was very spacious and comfortable, with clean bed linens and very convenient facilities — three toilets and two showers, which worked perfectly for a large group like ours.
It is genuinely pet-friendly, exactly as described. We brought our three dogs and really appreciated the outdoor dining space.
Katrina was extremely helpful, and all communication was kind, clear, and quick. We would happily stay again. Cooking for a large group was a bit challenging without full kitchen facilities. If we had known, we would have brought disposable plates, cutlery, extra utensils, and more drinking water. A BBQ in the courtyard would be a lovely addition for easy outdoor cooking. Overall, we still managed well and had a great stay.
- Jodie (8/5): - Reasonable priced and beautiful quiet location
- Oleh Kalion (8/5): A perfect place to unwind away from the city hustle - The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the bedding very fresh. The fireplace was cosy. The shower had hot and cold water, and all toiletries were provided. The administrator was friendly and caring - we had a wonderful stay! The room doesn’t have air conditioning, only a ceiling fan.
- Mattia (10/5): - Simply great

- Deebie (8/5): -
- Alicia (7/5): - The room was very very tiny. Only to sleep shower was good water pressure old vanity's and tiny bathroom ensuite style not sure $204 is what I would price it... But anyway and a long way from anything
- martyn (8/5): Peaceful - Clean. Peaceful Very plain rooms. No artwork. One bedside lamp.

- Misha (9/5): -
- Rory (10/5): Great for pets! - Hunter Valley Retreat was great! They are one of the few places that are pet friendly and welcome cats. Me and my two cats had a great stay and would come again. The reception was very friendly too.
- Anirban (9/5): -
- shannon (9/5): -
- Jheannie (8/5): - Staff are so accommodating and flexible. We will come back.
- Wyndham (9/5): I can recommend this great value accommodation in a beautiful location. - Fantastic family and pet friendly location. Nothing not to like.
- Daria (10/5): -
- Robert (8/5): -
- Guest (4/5): A disappointing stay given all of the reviews. - The bed was uncomfortable, sunk in the middle.
The room smelt of mould which is probably in the carpet near the bathroom. The mould is most likely caused by the fact that the shower screen door doesn't close and water runs out onto the carpet in the bedroom, evidence of this is the water damaged architrave.
- Craig (8/5): -
- Guest (8/5): - I didn't want internet anyway
- Ellen (9/5): -
- Marty (8/5): - The location and the peace and quiet
- Li (7/5): Good -
- Jeny (10/5): Coming back again and again. - Perfectly locked between nature and a clock free holiday. Amazing owner and her beautiful pet Evy, we’re so welcoming. No Restaurants near by.

- Joanne (10/5): Thank you Hunter Valley Retreat for your hospitality we will come again and recommend - The rooms were amazing enough space for my family to be comfortable. The staff were friendly they were great with my grandchildren, provided apples for them to feed the horses. The bomb fire was great.
- Robyn (10/5): Weekend Retreat - Tranquil souroundings and lovely accommodation. Katrina was amazing, making sure we had the best accommodation for our weekend retreat. They made sure we had everything we needed from firewood to dvds. Great hot showers and comfy beds.
- Karin (8/5): Very good - The location was lovely. Set among the the trees. Friendly staff. Spacious room and nice sitting area to watch tv. Bed was soft and cosy. It was cold and took a while to get room to a comfortable temperature. The walls to the next room paper thin. Had to listen to the people next doors night time activities and snoring.
- Tanya (6/5): - Was a lovely spot and people extremely friendly, only downfalls were the shower was extremely hard to regulate water temperature, was either too hot or too cold, wasted so much water trying to get to correct temp. Only other thing was there is no A/C and only a small fan heater for warmth. Other than those 2 things the place was perfect.
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (9/5): Great relaxing weekend getaway - Quiet well maintained and beautiful surroundings. Lovely open campfire and BBQ facilities. Plenty good wine farms in the area.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nora (6/5): Pleasant -
- Warwick (8/5): Very good -
- Van (9/5): Nice stay - The retreat is in a seclude location so it's perfect for a getaway where you want a quiet ambience with nature. Our cabin is clean with big bedrooms. We came during the winter and the staff provided us with enough heaters, so the night was comfortably warm. The staff is very nice and helpful. There was on-site staff who responded very promptly to our requests.
We travelled by car so it was easy to get around. But there is no store or eatery within 10 minute drives, so you'd better eat somewhere else before arriving or bring some food with you (in this case, remember to book a cabin with a kitchenette). There was a campfire at night during our stay but as we were tired from travelling and needed to wake up early the following morning, we did not come to the campfire.
All in all, we had a comfortable stay at the retreat during our Hunter Valley visit. None.
- Rocio (8/5): Very good -
- Leonardo (10/5): Exceptional - It was a real pleasure to spend the weekend at Hunter Valley Retreat.
The atmosphere was incredibly peaceful — surrounded by fresh air and nature.
We absolutely loved the bed, it was super comfortable!
We also had a lovely time by the fire pit, sharing special moments in the evening.
And the best part? It’s dog-friendly! That made our stay even more special.
Thank you for such a relaxing and memorable experience!
- Xi (8/5): Very good -
- Ziching (10/5): Our family from overseas were very impressed with the quality, facilities and location. We’ll be back! - Great serene surrounding for a family, amazing bonfires at night and reasonable distances from most vineyards and attractions. Especially loved that they were pet friendly and had larger accommodations so our family could all stay together! Nothing
- Emmanuel (8/5): SERENITY - We love the serene place and bonfire at night The light for the backyard is not working.
- Thierry (6/5): Pleasant -
- Alisa (9/5): Superb -
- Anastasia (10/5): Relaxing. - Amazing location. Very private. Our room was cozy and very well equipped.
- Richard (6/5): Pleasant - we did not have breakfast as apparently the hall was booked out by another group for the whole weekend. I was not aware of this and was told by a guest that i could not use this venue. this was not communicated to me before i arrived or when i arrived. Poor communication on what was not available to us during our stay
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet and peaceful. Fabulous forest location. Very friendly staff and great breakfast. Comfortable and accommodating. Nothing.
- Edith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Renee (9/5): The staff were very helpful & went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable - The bush setting was beautiful, my Granddaughter LOVED roasting marshmallows over the campfire.
- Sarah (10/5): Beautiful - Absolutely beautiful location.
Great apartment.
Clean and Great Staff. Can't fault anything.
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional - Well set up accommodation with plenty of space and facilities.
- Joseph (8/5): Good value for money - Dishwasher and cooktop in the room would be nice. AC was not needed during this time. But in summer it would be nice. na
- Geraldine (9/5): Superb -
- Kellie (9/5): Breath taking surroundings, resulting in relaxing quality family time. - So tranquil and welcoming, the bushland is absolutely stunning. I couldn’t stay longer
- Andrea (9/5): Lovely stay - Very chill place. The fire was very good, the bed was comfortable and the guest was very welcome.
- Jj (9/5): Lovely place - stayed during the low season; rate was of great value which also includes breakfast while the place was lovely, only ceiling fan was available in the room during the heat
- Johnandmaiya (2/5): Very disappointing accommodation - The country environment. .no table
.no chairs
.no bench in toilet for toiletries.
.no toaster
.no microwave
.limited crockery
- Lindsey (10/5): Excellent and brilliant customer service - From the minute I arrived I was greeted with nothing but friendliness. I thoroughly enjoyed being in such a peaceful, quiet spot. I turned up to wallabies at my cabin. I was also allowed to go and see the horses which was really lovely. I’ll be back 😊
- Vijayata (10/5): Amazing - We had an amazing time there. The host was considerate of the guest’s requirements and the property was serene and peaceful.
- Samta (9/5): Superb - Very pleasant and accomodating hosts, we really enjoyed our stay.
- Christina (8/5): Very good -
- Teneale (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was fabulous. The team were so accommodating and kind
- Simpkinson (9/5): Excellent - Peace
- James (8/5): Very good - Very well kept property. Was nice to come back and enjoy the bush. Lots of wildlife and felt like we were miles away from the hustle and bustle.
- Jean (8/5): Lovely area and rooms - Wonderful break in the countryside. Friendly and helpful receptionist. Not too far from Newcastle’s beaches.
Would have been helpful if room type description had more information about kitchen facilities. We weren’t sure if it had a hob/ oven (which it did in the 2-bedroom). Had to make another trip to the shops for
Appropriate food once we sure of facilities.
- Ruth (9/5): Enjoyable stay amongst the trees - Felt like a country getaway. Clean, comfortable, dog friendly. Friendly staff.
- Deslie (10/5): Fantastic location for attending ’the day on the Green’ Bus picks you up right at the front. It was a nice relaxing feel - It was open, lovely and quiet.
- David (9/5): Very relaxing and enjoyable stay. - The complex is huge, lots of garden and yard to move around. It’s very serene and peaceful. I can’t fault it, I’d like to go again and relax.
- Duane (5/5): Location staff great maybe think about installing aircon or get locks on screen doors - Property was amazing It was so hot no air con and couldn’t leave glass door open as no lock on screen door. Not sure if better in winter as no way to heat that I noticed.
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Roger (8/5): Very good - Lovely greeting by the owner who went out of her way to help A/C would have been nice but understand the property's environment strategy
- Carol (10/5): - The property is idyllic in itself and surroundings. Sealed roads, easy access and local to amenities.
The only thing we missed was aircon - it was a 35C weekend - but otherwise great location. Katrina was so lovely and helpful and we would definitely stay there again.
- Eby (10/5): Beautiful - Environment No kitchen
- Jaroslav (9/5): Superb -
- Brett (8/5): Good to get away from the hustle and bustle - Peaceful, nice fresh air Nothing.
- Donna (10/5): Lovely little couple weekend away - Staff were amazing and so lovely, the facilities were awesome, very clean and comfortable Rooms were a bit loud when guests were next to us. Rooms need air-conditioning as it gets to hot in there.
- Alison (9/5): Superb - Clean rooms & bathroom, comfortable beds, and peaceful surroundings! No A/C although we didn’t need it for the one night. It worked perfectly fine for us who stayed a night!
- Nicholas (7/5): Good -
- John (4/5): - No Wi-Fi in units
- Linda (10/5): Great place for a group - Peaceful and no internet No kitchen
- Alison (10/5): So beautiful felt miles away - So beautiful
Amazing spot
Trees incredible It was all so picturesque
- Warwick (9/5): Superb -
- Debra (8/5): - There was a fire pit was which was lit at night, we enjoyed this.
The continental breakfast was simple but nice, the facilities were clean.
I’d recommend this accommodation for large groups or for a simple quiet weekend away.
- Aarzoo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chucky (9/5): Welcoming staff, good breakfast with pet friendly facilities, in a quiet bushland setting. - Very good value, out of town location, breakfast can be included, pet friendly and wonderful staff. Wide range of room types available and if staying for an extended period would recommend a studio or larger as there are no neaby places for lunch / dinner. Bushland setting and facilities makes a good wedding venue with enough rooms to cater for all attending. The continental breakfast option was great value and saved a stop on out way home. Our basic room have been refreshed some time ago but was very good value.
- Bain (10/5): It's like camping but in a rooms very happy to come backk - We would love to come back there every holidays Out door lighting
- Digby (8/5): Very good - Great acreage space for dog friendly accom, friendly staff, bonfires at night, the horse resident :D Very small room.
