Guest Reviews
- raymond (10/5): One night in Smithton - Great place
Great hosts
Good price
- Stewart (6/5): - No personal greeting, required to phone someone called Michael, informed over the phone the code to open the .key safe, all very impersonal and non professional. WILL NOT BE STAYING AGAIN.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property is a little old and tired. Beds were comfortable, kitchen was adequate. Location was great, easy to find. Linen bit worn out. Little squishy for family of 4, but acceptable if your days are busy and just need somewhere to sleep.
- Prasanna (10/5): - Excellent property at the center of town close to everything. Staying with the family and all enjoyed the stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location, easy to access services. Good off street parking and great kitchen facilities.
- IAN (8/5): - We were in Room 4 at the back. Just like a converted sleepout, not much room to move. Facilities were fine, just a bit cramped.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very good, cute little cottage
- Ian (4/5): - Rubbish left in one bin from previous tenant .
Bathroom towels frayed and a big hole in one.
- Ryan (10/5): - Clean and cosy in a great location. Lovely place to stay.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The house itself was charming but as two couples in their sixties who had booked the two bedroom self contained unit we were very disappointed. The fridge and dishes and TV were in the double bedroom and two single fold out beds in a closed in back porch with a small table and two chairs. it would have been good to have this made clear in the booking.
- Des (8/5): old world accommodation - Old world accommodation,,very well renovated. There was no reception, received email giving me instructions how to get key from a safe.
Room was comfortable. Had the use of a shared kitchen. Continental breakfast provided. A little bit noisy as the cottage is in the middle of town centre.
Good wifi.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Heritage property, well set up. I would think that room No. 3 would be the best room for a couple. Not facing the street, and walk in shower.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This little cottage was really very quaint and lovely. Close to the main area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely setting beautifully restored. Very comfy bed.
- Romeo (10/5): - Was my first experience, highly recommended.... beautiful location near supermarkets. Great parking, and kitchen, laundary are exceptional benefits
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Old worldly and nice1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Quaint old cottage house right on main street in town. Being an old house & our booking being a family room set up out on the back verandah, being all that was available at the time, we found it very cramped even as a couple only. Cannot imagine staying in this set up with two other people or children & their luggage. Shower is over a bath & dangerous for children or seniors as no anti slip mat provided. We did not realise house was booked out to 4 bookings all allocated their own lockable sleeping space & shower in each bedroom. Other than that, main areas inside front of house at passage & kitchen are well set up, owner & cleaners friendly & good access to all amenities in town. Road noise during business hours.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What a charming property with such character and history. Loved it
- Adrian (8/5): comfortable - good accomodation. basic but has everything you need.
- Thomas (6/5): - A big space with laundry facilities. The continental breakfast was fine, and the location was central to the restaurants and grocery stores.
- Stephanie (8/5): Great place to stay - Loved it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A welcomed feel as we opened the front door on arrival. A very enjoyable stay and would recommend it
- Thomas (10/5): Tarkine Dreaming - The facilities were fantastic and the apartment was very comfortable. We enjoyed staying in it.
We found Smithton a but of a culinary desert, so suggest people look to Stanley for good food experiences when they stay at this B&B.
We chose this place because it was close to our tour guide for the Tarkine Region. That tour is gold and we recommend people who stay here to do it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable room close to the Tarkine - The room was small but well appointed. Unfortunately the queen bed was 2 single beds pushed together.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quaint place to stay. Very old world. Nice town. Close to the shops and good pizza across the road.
- Jack (8/5): Cute cottage - nice stay - We enjoyed our stay in Smithton. We were a group of three adults staying in the back annex of the cottage. Our review refers only to this area of the property. The common kitchen was large and spacious and there was a nice outdoor area to hang out. The master bed was cosy and the second sleeping area was very small. The bathroom was very spacious. Great laundry facilities an added bonus. Supermarket and bakery right next door. All well located. Would recommend to other travellers.
- Jo (10/5): Charming cottage in the Main Street. - This is the old post office house,it has been lovingly decorated to its old world charm. Our ensuite room was 3 rooms at the back of the house and was quite spacious. The aminites were excellent and our cotact person was friendly and very helpful. Really enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend the Tarkine Oyster shop.
- pam (10/5): Olde cottage in town had the place to ourselves - Lovely old cottage ,all found even a continental bkfst
- Eamonn (8/5): Pleasant comfortable stay - No host to receive us but entry was organised very easily. Room was very clean and comfortable with access to shared kitchen if needed. 2 minor detracting were 1) No flyscreens on windows and no latch to hold the hopper window up. (Not an issue unless it's a warm night which we had). 2) The King size bed though very comfortable was made up of two singles together. Not so much of an issue except they were both on castors so they moved away from the wall if you wished to sit up reading or came apart during the night. Neefed something to stop movements.
- Ian (10/5): Federation-era charm - Comfortable family accommodation with shared kitchen. Ample continental breakfast supplied
- Margaret (8/5): Centre of town - key instructions easy to follow... easy to find. Very comfy bed. Great breakfast
- Verified traveler (2/5): NEVER NEVER book Unit 4! - Manager didn't meet us. Cramped space; two fold-up metal beds and one double - absolutely dreadful! TV was housed in wardrobe - viewed only by sitting on double bed. All crockery and jug, etc in wardrobe cupboard - nowhere to plug in jug. hot tap over bath not working. After complaint, Manager provided two single beds in another unit - this was much more comfortable for my 88 year old sister and niece. Was not informed there was a shared kitchen - found this out after accessing Unit 3. I definitely would not recommend this particular venue to anyone --- Do not book Unit 4 to any other customer. Most distressing stay of our whole trip.

- Kathleen (10/5): Post Office Cottage Smithton - Lovely stay at this cottage for 2 nights. Great room, tasteful decor in the period and style of the house. Close to main shopping strip, and WW supermarket, and not far from The Bridge Hotel which served good meals and seniors meal good value. Large kitchen available for use which was a bonus, bbq out of order, provisions left for continental breakfast but only for 1 day. Toaster, but no bread supplied, but supermarket close by. Overall a very nice stay, would recommend. Only 20 km to Stanley so a good alternative. No formal check in, pick up and leave keys, so we didn't see anyone. We stayed in Room 3, TV remote skipped channels so hard to use.
- Verified traveler (6/5): We had room 4 - It was too small for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Fold out beds were very squeaky so difficult for them to sleep.
- D.M. (4/5): Disappointing - Booked a suite with 2 bedrooms, one a double the other twin beds.
What I had was a single room with a Queen size bed consisting of two singles pushed together with seperate bottom sheets and Queen size top sheet and doona.
I woke the next day with a very sore back.
Last time I stayed at this B&B I had a wonderful cooked breakfast in the lovely period kitched and a friendly chat with the owner.
This time my only contact with the owner was via the phone and a continental breakfast on a small table in the room WITHOUT BREAD to toast, but there was a toaster in the room????????
Next time I stay....................... well, there won't be a next time
- Verified traveler (8/5): will stay again - tryed to leave out the rating for staff, but the site won't accept this as a response. The reason is that there is no interaction with staff / owners as pre-pay, self check-in, self catered, and leave keys behind when you leave, works ok.
- Jennifer (10/5): outstanding customer service - Our car died (not what you want on a touring holiday) and clearly nothing to do with our accommodation, however Michael was absolutely brilliant. He provided service that was way above my expectations.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very nice B&B right in the heart of town - Couldn't fault anything, very clean and comfortable and would highly recommend this B&B.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful old home and great host.
- Robyn (10/5): Very comfortable bed and breakfast. - Well furnished and decorated BnB in ahistorical cottage. Warm and friendly hosts. Use of the laundry was free and nothing was too much trouble. We had the full use of the kitchen for other meals and were served a full breakfast in the morning. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- Tim & Cheryl (10/5): Warm welcome and great breakfast - Clean and comfortable accomodation. Close to good food options. Excellent choice for a stay in Smithton.
- John (10/5): Great place about 15 min drive to Stanley - I was disappointed when I found out we were staying in Smithton and not Stanley, but this place more than made up for it and in the end, I'm glad we stayed here. Stanley, like Cradle Mtn, is over priced, so Ye Olde PO, was good value in comparison. There a couple of restaurants nearby but we didn't try them, preferring to get taken for a ride in Stanley with the other tourists instead.
- Karen (10/5): Fantastic experience - A most lovely place to stay in, comfortable & clean and the hosts were fantastic, great cooks lovely people!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fantastic Hospitality, lovely room - Very friendly and attentive hospitality. Beautiful room and breakfast. Definitely recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): This was our second stay - This was our second stay and we even managed to book the very same room. I have no hesitation at staying here again and every time I need to stay in Smithton.
- Jeff (10/5): Drive around Tassy trip Feb 2015. - Great spoy probably the best in town for a B & B. Our host couldn't do enought to help & was very knowledgeable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - fantastic stay. Will come back again. Very convenient location
- Se (10/5): - it is pleasant to stay there. Warm breakfast cooked by owner was the best. The room are neat and clean. It has everything we need. It close restaurant and supermarket.
- john (10/5): Great location, excellent accomodation - Very surprised to find we had booked a 3 room suite, spotlessly clean, very friendly owner, all we could wish for including a comfortable bed, suite comprised of a small lounge, bathroom with spa bath, and a bedroom with a queensized bed, breakfast was excellent, what was asked for we had plus! 5⭐️
- Lynelle (10/5): Modern comforts in old world charm - Situated in the middle of Smithton, it is the perfect location to walk to nearby shops and hotels for shopping and food. Perfect location to drive to the beautiful remote locations of Arthur River, The Edge of the World and Dismal Swamp. Comfortable and affordable. Hosts are welcoming, friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again!
