Guest Reviews
- belinda (10/5): - It was exactly as described, a beautiful quiet place to rest. Added bonus was full of retro furnishing, we loved it. Also the dog Jake on the property was lovely and friendly and we will miss him. Would recommend anyone to stay that just wants a genuine down to earth stay thats value for money. Thank you Pamela.
- Pavlos (10/5): - Great experience
- Neil (2/5): - We liked the ability to be able to come and go as we pleased however this was over shadowed by the host watching our every move. The accommodation was clean but everything was old and secondhand. The host felt she needed to go through the accommodation every day while we were there to check on our toilet paper. She was very intrusive even to the point of pushing in the door when my husband answered to talk to me while i was in bed. We would definitely not stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice quiet atmosphere
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Property was larger than expected, clean and comfortable. Pamela was friendly and attentive to our needs. Very peaceful and quiet surroundings
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice location, chooks and Guinea fowl to wake up to. Comfy bed.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It was someone's house the room was in their house with a dog.
- Bruce (10/5): Good place to spend a weekend - Good, clean accomodation. Friendly and pleasant owner. Bridgetown is a great place to chill for a weekend.
- Irene (8/5): A welcoming character home with amazing view - Pamela has an amazing property. Just a little out of the way, but an easy drive if have a vehicle. Just a couple minutes out of town, but well worth it. Great view, beautiful ground and a great character home. Pamela is very welcoming and great to sit down for a chat. The decor is older, but clean and comfortable.
- Anne (8/5): - This was a nice, comfortable retreat on beautiful premises. Nothing fancy but everything one needs to get away and relax. Beautiful walk into Bridgetown along the river..(we were unlucky because the pedestrian crossing had washed out..) Beautiful area. We stayed in the chalet and were quite satisfied. Pamela also offers fresh oranges and apples, jams and fresh eggs!
- Kai (10/5): Nice experience - Little bit secluded and the was no one when i arrived. But a sign at the door with all important information. Later I met the host Pamela with a warm welcome. So all clean and all amenities available with a quite private character.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very quiet location with beautiful gardens - One night stop over as travelling for work.
Clean, tidy room stay in dwelling. No facilities to cook etc but that was understood at booking. Room & bathròm are dated. Lovely people and good value
- Verified traveler (6/5): WOW - Disappointed overall. there was a picture of a Spa Bath the reality was something different.
Queen Room =Double bed, 1 chair and 2 bed side tables.
The Aircon was a bar heater.
- Jim (4/5): Nice location, rooms are in very poor condition. - Doors at Pamela's Retreat aren't closed using the usual locks with a snib on one side and a keyhole on the other. Instead, a sliding bolt lockable and unlockable only from the outside is used - this means that someone can inadvertently trap you inside your room, and your privacy is compromised because you can't lock it from the inside.
Aging wallpaper peels from the plastered walls. The ill-fitting, threadbare carpet shifts around as you walk on it. Pieces of wooden trim hang down in the corners of the ceiling. The bedside lamps lack light bulbs, and the shower is as warm and satisfying as standing outside in the drizzle. To put it charitably, the place is falling apart.
On the other hand, the lady we met was nice enough and I love the view from the yard - the place is situated most of the way up a hill and gives a great vista over the valley and across Bridgetown itself. The dog is a quiet, friendly soul who is very pleased to meet guests.
My recommendation to the owners of Pamela's is this: close the place for a week or two, and:
Remove the peeling wallpaper and renew the plaster and paint. Replace the aging carpet with something a little more modern, and use underlay this time so it doesn't feel like you're walking on a picnic blanket. Get rid of the barely-working showerhead and replace it. Paint the ceilings properly. Delete your cheap excuse for locks and replace them with locking handles which allow security and privacy.
Place could be lovely but it needs work.
- Lesley (10/5): A wonderful stay. - Wonderful host, very clean, well kept property. A delightful experience.
- Linda (8/5): Pamela's Retreat was a pleasant overnight stop. - My host was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed a pleasant overnight stayat Pamela's Retreat in the lovely Bridgetown area.
- Fred (8/5): Wonderful views with fresh eggs! - It was adequate to our needs, reasonable accommodation with self catering facilities. Pam sold us some beautiful fresh eggs and locally grown oranges.
- J (4/5): disappointed - Our room was booked for 4 but could really only cater for max of 3. Sheets were only provided for the double and single bed, the fourth person had to bunk on a very hard sofa bed which was only about 150cm long, or a small matress which was about 80cm wide and not in good condition. Contents of the room were all very old, second hand and tired looking with the exception of the TV and the airconditioner. Towels were clean but one was covered in green paint. Hot water was intermittent making for unpleasant showers. Although lights and lamps were present, only 2 had globes provided. 'View of Lake' was really just a small manmade dam in a paddock, 'pleasant walks' was a 5minute walk to the dam. Kitchen was filled with brikabrak including disposable plastic plates and cups and other outdated junk, fridge is outside the room in the cold. There were signs of 'do not do this and do not do that' everywhere. 'Self contained retreat' is really a small extremely drafty room tacked on to the side of the owners garage. I am not usually a complainer but this is seriously overpriced for what you get. Pictures on the website manage to hide the worst. Very disappointed and couldnt leave quick enough...
