Guest Reviews
- vanessamD8979BK (10/5): Just do it - Never disappoints - another great trip to Bonville- exceptional customer service, wonderful food, beautiful course.
We once again enjoyed our overnight stay with the golf package through Bonville directly.
The course condition was great even considering recent rain.
- T3822BZcarolynr (6/5): Great golf - terrible accommodation - The golf experience was outstanding and the restaurant satisfactory.
The accommodation however leaves a lot to be desired and is overpriced. The rooms are tired and dated. There was a smell that permeated everything. We came back to our room after dinner to be greeted by several cockroaches scurrying about. (There had been a lot of rain prior to our stay) They were coming from under the bed, so perhaps a spray under beds before guests arrive during wet conditions could be helpful. The restaurant staff who were the only staff on duty at that time of the evening very kindly facilitated a room change for us.
A golf course of this calibre deserves facilities of equal standard.
- LisaB867 (6/5): Golfing at Bonville - The course is beautiful & extremely challenging. The accomodation is a bit dated & we felt needed refreshing. Some issues for us- our air conditioner was really noisy, there is no handle on the bathroom door, there was no screen on the entrance door in our room. The food is nicely prepared & presented, however an addition of a plate of vegetables with the main course might have been nice.
- 843andrewm (8/5): Golfers Paradise - Beautiful resort with an outstanding golf course set amongst a tropical forest ! Great attentive staff and magnificent quality food either in the clubhouse or delivered on the course.
The accommodation is a little tired and dated however with a group of single males quite adequate.
Great value overall and definitely a venue all golfers would thoroughly enjoy.
- martinpO8548NW (10/5): Fantastic course and great staff - When visiting here you are going to play golf and it's a fantastic course for sure. All members of staff from reception, restaurant and pro shop were very friendly and helpful.
Food is great too.
Beds are comfortable and yes rooms are dated but they are just a base.
- sandersonsAustralia (10/5): outstanding golf course - superb stay ,After a 4-night golf trip to Bonville golf resort competing in the SEQ challenge ,it was a Amazing experience , the golf course was in superb condition ,I enjoyed the ironbark tees the most out of the 4 tee blocks on offer .as it was most suited to my handicap ,All the staff at the establishment were amazing, nothing was to much trouble ,in all areas , the food at the resort was outstanding, breakfast lunch and dinner ,all served in a prompt and very efficient manor ,,i have been on many golf trips and can say this was one of the best .highly recomend
well worth a visit
- philipp0a (10/5): A must do golfers holiday. - Great place for.a golf holiday.
The rate includes accomodation in comfortable motel style cabin, a round of golf with cart for each night , three course dinner and cooked breakfast.
The food was first rate...really excellent.
Golf was wonderful.
We look forward to coming back.
- waynemQ3795JQ (10/5): Love Bonville - First visited and stayed for a week in preparation for the regional final of the Holden scramble back in 2010, my wife and I have returned on two other occasions. We both agreed in 2010 that we would settle in the area and become members. That day is getting closer. Life got in the way of that decision but we are now looking at house purchase and hope to have that organised shortly. We both love the place the staff are always first class and the course is breathtaking and a good test. Looking forward to finally becoming a member.
- henare1 (10/5): Best course ever. - Visited with family to play this course.Could not be more impressed with the course and the excellent service given to us by Daniel Dosen and the restaurant staff. The course was in superb condition and extremely well maintained.
Will be back to play again.
- Sullivan87m (10/5): The #1 golf experience - Went with a group of 10 for two nights, three rounds. The accommodation is best described as “a very nice motel” but the rest of the facility cannot be faulted. Food is impressive at every turn, wine list sensational, service brilliant (hospitality and pro shop) and the course itself is absolutely perfect. Worth every penny and then some. Do it!
- Flatty29 (2/5): Snobbery - We took some friends there to have a drink or coffee and show them the view from the clubhouse. We hoped to convince them to come up with us some time for a Stay and Play package. However the Receptionist smugly told us that “ We don’t allow members of the public. Only people who are staying here. We won’t be back at any time
- Golfer666 (10/5): 4 day destination break - We visited Bonville Golf Resort for a 4 day destination holiday.
Upon arrival we were greeted by some truly delightful people.
We played golf and our room was ready.
A nice 1 bedroom apartment.
Comfortable bed good shower and close to walk to the club and dining facilities.
Our package included breakfast and 3 course dinner.
All meals were outstanding and alcohol prices were realistic.
After 4 days we will certainly go back.
- BeachshackBrisvegas (10/5): Great golf - A great golf course with on site motel style accomodation and an excellent dining room. The food was hearty & delicious served by friendly staff. The accomodation was fairly basic but very comfortable & all you need. The golf course is picturesque & a challenge!
- PaulandRachel1 (8/5): Enjoyed - Stayed here for a golf event. Motel style rooms which are fine for the purpose of staying here for a golf trip with work colleagues. Rooms are located short walk from the clubhouse and the restaurant there is excellent, I think a hatted one which would be unique for a golf club!
- Coastal33737023184 (10/5): Great experience with exceptional customer service - We booked a golf package with accom and meals included. We could not fault any aspect. The customer service is outstanding. Even the young green keepers smile snd say hello. Golf is excellent t. Accom is average but spotlessly clean with everything you need. Food was very good. Good selection of wines. Overall we couldn’t be happier.
- LynchP1n (10/5): Amazing Amazing Amazing Experience!! - We recently spent a weekend at Bonville Golf Resort whereby we held our annual golf trip away. This was our first year hosting at Bonville and the experience we had was simply amazing. The way we were treated by the Staff working at BGR, from the check-in staff, to the folk in the Pro-shop to those serving us food and drinks.. the whole team were unbelievable attentive, interested, and full of chat. We really felt welcomed, cared for and engaged from start to finish. The golf course is Top Class!! one of the best I've played, and the resort amenities are perfect. Hats off also the chef who served up a culinary experience which still leaves a taste in the mouth. All up.. I couldn't recommend BGR any higher.. Well done!!
- ZN9999 (6/5): Golf course is great, food is good, rooms average - Not sure about this golf course . I’ll come back and play again and do the overnight package again.
The golf course itself was very well presented and better than my golf ability. But I let it beat me.
The restaurant was very good both dinner and breakfast the next day. Service fine and food well done.
I thought the accommodation didn’t quite match all that, it wasn’t bad but it didn’t match the quality of the course and the restaurant. Pity but not a deal breaker
- K5935KDsusanb (6/5): Just OK - After hearing rave reviews of Bonville for a while, we decided to give it a try.
Initial appearance is absolutely visually stunning. However, like a Monet, when you are a little closer to the detail, we were disappointed. Due to weather (which I know is outside of their control), the course was in my opinion unplayable, water pooling on fairways and some greens. For your interest, according to them the course is ALWAYS playable unless the cart paths become unpassable.
We were booked in for a 2 night stay but lasted 3 holes. A very disappointing result given the condition of the course which means instead of receiving an 18 hole "rain-check" and coming back another time, we were offered a 9 hole "rain-check" but only able to play on a Monday or Tuesday. Price gouging at it's best.
As per other reviews, the hotel is comfortable but the biggest let down is very limited wi-fi and TV reception. This is something that can be easily fixed for minimal effort.
- 255nickw (10/5): 2-night golf trip - Simply outstanding.
The golf course is so gorgeous and manicured.
The restaurant is seriously brilliant with spectacular food, and a fabulous wine list.
And the staff are without exception on the ball and focused on giving you the best experience possible.
- 213veronikah (6/5): Stay, Eat and play package - The Golf course was spectacular , however the rest of the stay very poor. Accommodation very old, not well equipped at all. No crockery, wine glasses, no working TV, very loud AirCon.
3 course dinner: each food very well presented, but unfortunately that’s all. Everything absolutely tasteless, very overpriced for the quality of the meals. No wine selection and experienced staff. Coles frozen rolls with cheapest butter, pasta swimming in oil with frozen prawns, definitely not a meal or even luxury dining experience as promoted.
Summary: Very overpriced ($700 / per night ) , in terms of the quality what You get.
Overall: Very nice property, amazing golf course, but requires further development and soffisticated leadership.
- Rosalie (10/5): - It was secluded and quite. The grounds were kept very well
- Clinton (10/5): - Excellent accommodation, good clean room and great service. Thanks.
- Michelle (8/5): - Nice quiet peaceful surrounds for the golf addict
- Paul (10/5): - Clean quiet location, beautiful outlook, even though it was pouring rain during our stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful grounds very quiet.
Lovely dinning area on the verandah and lovely pool
- Anon (10/5): - Clean roomy rooms overlooking golf course..........
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Awesome landscape, Nicely manicured.
Looks the same as 28 years ago.
Great for playing Golf and to relax in nature.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location was great. Beautiful golf course. Lovely clubhouse, perfect for a drink.
- Lisa (6/5): - Paying to be close to the golf course which I believe to be of a high class but as we were not playing but only staying overnight on our journey we found the bed to be sagging on sides with lump in middle uncomfortable, toilet water brown.
Stay for the golf course not for the accommodation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing golf course, friendly, helpful staff. Beautiful, peaceful location with well equipped, clean & comfortable units. The evening meal was amazing with an impressive wine list. A lovely couples retreat for us, a great family/ group golfing holiday for others. Not for young kids.
- Shelley (8/5): - The golf course is simply stunning! Love playing there.
The accommodation was OK but not amazing for the price. The billabong pool was fabulous after a hot day on the course but sad to see the disrepair the tennis courts have fallen into. The accommodation is dated and there is nothing special about it in any way, the shower water pressure is pretty bad, it got worse after a power failure but generally bad. Would be good as a self catering option maybe and would be good if the room possibly included use of a golf cart during your stay, althoigh not needed may have added a touch with the price.
The restaurant for breakfast and lunch was great and for dinner the Flooded gums was spectacular!
The service from the front desk, restaurant, pro shop and out on the course was exceptionally good!
We will be back to play but probably not to stay.
- Ashu Gupta (8/5): - It was a good place to stay
The food was ok though not many options
Overall stay was ok
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Serenity of surrounds and quality of staff. Restaurant service and meals excellent...reasonable prices.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great reception and general service. Fabulous location and views of the golf course from the accommodation.
- Murray (6/5): False advertising. - Our stay was based around the advertised restaurant. Not a good experience. Accommodation was basic, but is a golfers place, and that is their market. However it has a bug problem. No screens and very uncomfortable outdoor furniture was very disappointing.
Overall, overpriced accommodation and restaurants.
Great looking golf course, so if golf is your be all and end all go ahead.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We paid for a standard room which shows pictures of a spa bath, however when we arrived there wasn’t one. I called reception and she told me it was $50 to upgrade to a room with a spa bath. Very misleading and poor service.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice grounds, room was very basic, looked old, would rate as 3 star accommodation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was quite and set on the golf course, the rooms were clean and tidy. The staff were courteous and check in/out was hassle free
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very quiet with beautiful scenery. Fabulous meal in restaurant with excellent wine selection
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great dining experience and golf course. Enjoyed the walk around and the variety of plants.
- Randal (8/5): - Small room but comfortable, friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Golf course, general ambiance and staff excellent. Villa walls very thin.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Room was freezing. Air conditioner did not produce any heat. Temperature inside room was 4.2 deg.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The place was beautiful, the room we had was lovely with a balcony overlooking the golf course and everything was clean and neat. My only complaint, but unfortunately an important one, was the bed.
The bed was incredibly soft, which might be good for some people but it gave my husband and I terrible back pain, to the point we had to go somewhere to get a massage after the first night and take pain killers for the whole stay (4 days). The double bed was made of 2 single beds stuck together, which had an unpleasant bump right in the middle of the bed and made it quite uncomfortable for both of us. This is the only reason I would think of going back to this place...
I must say the staff at the resort was lovely and tried to help by putting some other layers in the bed to make it a tiny bit less soft, that did help a little bit compare to the first night we had...
- F (8/5): - Aircon was old and had trouble reducing temperature.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The only thing I would say is the accomodation is a bit tired but the resort itself is impeccable
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Tranquility!! A very peaceful place to spend a night. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was delicious.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful location- very tranquil
Wish we could have stayed longer to relax!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Peace tranquility and beautiful surroundings and a magnificent golf course as well
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the peace and tranquility. Meal in restaurant was delicious.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very quiet location. Slept well. Great food and service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean, well presented accommodation, location is nice and quite.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Motel type units were at side of hole no.1 and very quiet. Golf course was beautifully maintained and restaurant first class
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Peaceful and relaxing. Beautiful view of golf course.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Welcoming check in
Relaxing dining
Peaceful and tranquil golf course views
Thoroughly recommend staying here
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Dining experience was very good, lovely surroundings.
- Clare (10/5): So much more than just golf - Friendly, fabulous, tranquil location, within easy reach of the buzz of Coffs Harbour. Needed longer to enjoy both location and facilities, a return visit definitely required. Accommodation was well presented and clean, initially seemed a little expensive for a cabin on a golf course, but we did visit in the peak of peak season! Breakfast overlooking the golf course was fabulous, I'm sure Dinner would be even better - next time!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great room! I'm not a golfer but still stayed here on a recent trip to see friends and family in the Coffs Area. The location of the resort isn't too far out of Sawtell but it was lovely and quiet, nice to get away from all the summer holiday crowds
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly staff great view from restaurant table. Food was excellent. Quiet location away from road noise
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Hotel - Nice hotel. Didn't have time to enjoy the facilities.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We’re not golfers however, Enjoyed the overall ambiance and pool area was delightful
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A pleasant stay. A hearty breakfast. Nice gardens.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The guests staying next room talked so loud and I was worried if I could sleep but they sleep early enough luckily. I was so looking forward to staying at the Bonville and it is pitty that I had a noisy neighbour. The main building offers nice ambiance but the accommodation we stayed was very plain but clean.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Peace and quiet - Fantastic surroundings beautiful views just what we were looking fir
- Angie (8/5): Functional quiet room - It was quiet, well situated half way between Sydney and Brisbane and is part of a beautiful golf resort with rainforest making it very relaxing
- dennis (8/5): - Excellent golf course and surroundings
lacking a day spa for the ladies the only thing missing but if your partner plays golf happy days
- Brian (10/5): - Great golf, accommodation, service, food. I'll be back.
- Sydney (8/5): Relax on a challenging Golf Course. - Excellent venue for our planned golf stay. A good sized pool provided after game downtime in the warmth of a late March stay. Excellent restaurant with great views and good coffee. Rooms are basic with small flat screen TV, but are fit for the occasion of "play and stay".
- Verified traveler (8/5): Memorable stay - Amazing location. Beautiful restaurant and views. Very pleasant lagoon pool.
- Albert (4/5): lots of drunk golfers partying all night - The hotel is quite simple for the price and there is no sound proofing which means you can hear every body else in the next door bedrooms.
We had the unfortunate experience of having a group of rude golfers staying next door, partying at night and being drunk. So we did not sleep until they decided to go to bed at midnight.
It seems this country golf is used by a lot of men from capital cities in Australia who come to party with their friends. Unfortunately we found very little etiquette or respect for other fellow golfers which was very disappointing for a golf which is to be the most beautiful in Australia.
- ELIZABETH (6/5): Good experience not great - Lovely golf course and friendly reception staff. Restaurant expensive. Rooms basic but clean and adequate
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very friendly staff - EVERYONE - Great . xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

- Verified traveler (2/5): - The bed was sandy. Not a good look.
Hotel was also way overpriced.
- Pat (6/5): Overpriced - The rooms were very basic. The metal architraves were rusty. The shelving in the bedroom had not been dusted. Good quality Molton Brown toiletries. The golf course is magnificent, a pity the accommodation is not of the same standard.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice golf course and staff - Lovely resort and golf course, room was basic but clean and comfortable. The pool area was a bit run down, there looked to be storm debris also. Staff were friendly and helpful.
- Glenn (4/5): No other option at the time - We were given the wrong room to start with which was a downgade for what we paid for.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Cabin in the woods - The golf course is absolutely amazing and incredibly beautiful, however the accommodation is out dated and more “cabin in the woods” than “five star golf course”. It seemed strange walking from the outdated, simple cabin out onto the course.
- Lisa (8/5): Great golf accommodation misleading - Golf is amazing restaurant is awesome accommodation a bit dated and overpriced for what you get ! Pool is No where near accommodation and that was disappointing. The staff is were lovely.
- chard (4/5): disappointing - The room reminded me of the original old Travel loge hotel room with the old décor. This room was not worth the price they charged.. The room should of been a lot less .per night .The room did not live up to a resort type room at all. The wire fi worked some times and the TV reception was poor. Dropping in and out.
- Ernie (10/5): Spectacularly beautiful setting - Beautiful setting, very tranquil and fantastic care and attention to golf course. Very friendly and attentive staff. Food was incredibly good. A must do for any avid golfer and very family friendly too
- David (4/5): the golf course supports the accommodation. - take away the golf course and the accommodation at Bonville would struggle to compete with the most basic motel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quiet location, serene surrounds. - High quality furnishings etc. very comfortable accommodation.
- janet (6/5): Nice quiet surrounds - Hotel is tired and needs a good refurbish. For the cost of a room I would have expected a lot more in the room inclusions. Even the toiletries provide were a combination of products and some packets were empty or missing.
- Tyla (4/5): Nice venue, sadly overpriced. - Stayed two nights with my wife in the king room. Really enjoyed the venue and view but we were very disappointed about the unclean bathroom and very sagged bed. Definitely not worth the price we paid to stay. Personally, will not recommend, unless you're offered a drastically reduced price.
- Susan (10/5): - Service in the restaurant was superb and the meal was delicious.
- Roy (6/5): - Not bad ...no phone network coverage
At this hotel
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very relaxing atmosphere in beautiful surroundings.
- Jack (8/5): Outstanding facility in magic setting. - We stayed in cabins and the smell from the sewage plant took edge off the experience. Especially bad in evenings and mornings when you want to enjoy ambience.
- jane (10/5): Room overlooking golf grounds - Quiet and peaceful overlooking beautiful garden and golf course. All staff were very friendly
- John (8/5): Great place to play golf - Attention to detail on the golf course was brilliant and the course certainly rates as one of the best courses we have played.
- Mike (6/5): Great golf course poor facilities - If it were not for the golf course which is sensational we would not visit .
We have visited from UK for 25 years and the rooms which are chalets have not been updated during that time.
The dining room is overrated and very expensive - Sawtell 6 mile away has a number of very good restaurants
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing breakfast. Stunning peaceful location. - This place is amazing, beautiful, peaceful and an amazing breakfast :) Very helpful with little children awake so early for breakfast! Thank you
- jamo (8/5): Beautiful surroundings - A really good place to be. Accommodation was clean and spacious . Staff friendly and helpful. Golf course beyond expectations but not easy for us older folk. Food excellent quality not cheap but good
- David (10/5): A beautiful setting - An amazing setting on a beautiful golf course. Although the room was a little dated , it was large, comfortable and clean. The Flooded Gums restaurant was great with fabulous food and and stunning vista.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Non-golfers will almost want to play golf - We stayed 2 nights to be close to Sawtell for business reasons, and this location suited our purpose extremely well. Parking (not covered) is outside your unit entry door, and there are lovely views across the course, complete with bird life and some wildlife in the mornings and late evenings. Gardens are sub-tropical and landscaping is beautifully maintained.
- Donna (6/5): Peaceful surrounds - Lovely setting, tranquil evenings broken only by noisy revellers, noisy blowers and mowers on the course early. Really only a golfer would appreciate!!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Dissapointing, dated rooms and attitudes. - We were very excited to stay here, but check in should have warned us. The receptionist was very dismissive of our having booked through Expedia. Specifically referred to 'wholesale bookings', in a derogatory manner. We have used Expedia world wide in high end properties with nothing like this ever before. Property itself is very beautiful, but the rooms are well out of date for an executive resort room, especially at the price point and compared with the previous 2 nights accommodation in a simarly priced high end golf resort in the Hunter Valley. The resort seems to be living off past glory days and has clearly been a top destination in the past. However it's rooms are well below current industry standards and expectations. The staff attitude is definitely mixed, with some excellent service but several instances where the attitude is very impersonal and unprofessional. The setting for dinner was beautiful and in general the food excellent, but just too many slip ups, with the incorrect main, long delays and at the end it seemed more important for to the staff to set up for the following days breakfasts than finish our service - we are still waiting to be offered coffee and tea !
- Susan (10/5): Quiet and gorgeous outlook - Unexpected overnight stay on our way down the coast. Stunning grounds, very quiet & excellent food. The rooms were a mix of dated & new but were very clean & comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Friendly Staff - Very kind and friendly staffs made my stay comfortable from time of making reservation
- Ian (8/5): Thx good save !! - After a unfortunarely wobbly start the GM Brad and his staff puuled out all the stops and exceeded expectations. Beautifull seeting and Golf Course.
Thx
