Guest Reviews
- Marcus (3/5): -
- Wing Kin (2/5): - Dirty, saw cockroaches in the room, nil blanket provided for the first night even we requested upon our arrival.
The hot water system was unstable, and might lack hot water after 9pm. Uncomfortable and frustrated stays. Location is Okay as the city area is small.
- Cv (5/5): -
- Talliee (9/5): - 10/10
- Nadia (5/5): - It was not clean.
- Marie (5/5): -
- Enosa (8/5): Comfortable, and everybody keeps to themselves. No disrespect or disturbances - Staff are very understanding and helpful and took in the fact that me and my three kids were desperate for a place to stay. Everything is good with me and I don’t dislike anything.
- Dareen (10/5): -
- Ross (6/5): -
- Eunice (9/5): - To have clean linen everyday. To stay on the bottom
- Kath (1/5): I have never stayed in a place as filthy as this. Dont stay there.. bad area - no breakfast available everything ... the place is disgusting
- chickabar (4/5): Disgusting Filth - Filthy Outdated Rundown Noisy. Mattresses uncomfortable. Three flights of stairs.stuff missing or broken. Being used to house people who don’t have homes. Avoid like the plague.
- Jean (3/5): Not happy Jan - We had hired a car so location was ok We arrived right on check-in, no sign of the owners, had to ring them, we booked 8 nights only stayed 4 went elsewhere more comfortable and quiet, never saw the owners only a cleaner. The room had 2 beds, 1 chair 1 cup to share ,5 plates, cutlery and cooking facilities , the vanity tap leaks as did the shower, the walls seemed mouldy and the stairwells to all 3 floors were filthy to top it all off swearing and yelling in the complex at night, not good enough , what was to be 8 nights we could handle only 4. It’s not what we expected from the pictures of the place,The garden near the pool area was overgrown with weeds ,such a shame we wasted our money on this complex.overall our stay in Cairns turned out to be enjoyable after we found perfect accommodation near the esplanade.
- Jake (10/5): -
- Kowshik (7/5): -
- Helen-Alana (1/5): - Nothing Didn’t smell nice, had to clean the room myself when checking in.
- Bill (9/5): Superb - Worth the money and nice location near to the bus station. nil
- Mariko (7/5): I would stay there by myself again for a day or two but not on a family basis - Location suited me, being close to a public swimming pool and not far from down town. The facility is correctly described as a lodge so I did not expect typical motel or hotel level facilities - for this trip ( and the reasonable cost ) that suited me and I would probably do a short stay there again. However, I would be cautious is promoting it as a family holiday facility unless travelling on a very low budget. The ‘locals’ were a bit noisy at night but again I took that in as the local scene and it did not fuss me. Location was also good for access to a variety of local eating places. Reception always being available at least within normal working hours. The manager clearly had some time issues but was also pleasant and helpful when there.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tess (1/5): Worst accommodation to date. - Nothing at all. Customer service - rubbish! They didn't meet me at the premises or organise an outside hours collection point. When someone eventually arrived, there was no welcoming or apologies. Just given the keys and told which room.
Room appearance - absolutely disgusting!!! Room smelled of strong chemicals, humidifier on the bench, ceiling fan exposing leads and rusted, both beds were broken and the bottom sheets were filthy. Wardrobe door hanging off, the walls looked like they had mould on them and the TV was not working.
Do not book here unless your absolutely desperate and then think about it.
- Lewis (1/5): Worst place I've stayed. - Not much. The place was terrible, the room was gross. The shower hose didn't even dock it was just dangling in the bathtub. There were cigarette butts all along the shower window sill. Black mould near the basin, the balcony door didn't latch and the balcony was covered in pigeon crap. Noisy neighbours having fights all night, I checked myself out after two nights of a 7 night booking.
- Keenan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jamaine (8/5): Very good - Car space Stairs
- Deano (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mikayla (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mye (9/5): Superb - Spacious rooms
- Amanda (6/5): - Microwave was not working, remote to the TV was also not working. Bathroom had hair on the floors still and general room was not clean.
Staff was attentive but did not resolve most issues.
- Loren (4/5): Disappointing - Not much to say otherwise was looking for budget accommodation Far from esplanade and had permanent residents. Very budget like
- Colleen (5/5): Passable - We liked the location, room was large and had cooking facilities which was handy. Was quiet despite being close to highway. Access to super markets and eating places was pretty easy. Esplanade was close. The whole place was pretty tired. Even a coat of paint would have brightened it up. Cleaning was very mediocre. Shower was over a deep bath which was difficult for us as older people and would be impossible for some. Lots of areas in the room looked like they needed a good scrub. The tile floor could have been cleaner. Bare feet got dirty! Lots of wear and broken corners. I'm not a perfect housewife but don't charge people money to stay in my house either!
- Phillip (10/5): Exceptional -
- Phillip (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff. Nice people. I Enjoyed my stay so much that I stayed a extra week.. thank you for the grate time
- Kyle (10/5): Great all round and lovely staff - Privacy Stairs
- Derek (4/5): - Cheap, not cheerful. Mouldy aircons, musty smelling rooms, plenty of rust, cigarette stink all over the hotel and general disrepair. Saw punches thrown in a nearby fish and chip shop and could hear arguments and shouting at night, both in the hotel and street. Kids didn’t feel safe. Dishes weren’t clean on arrival but you’re expected to clean them yourself. 2 glasses for a family of four, and two beds when 3 were booked. Pool area needs a clean up. Car park holds about 10 cars for 20 or so units, so parking is often on street.
But, good price.
- Samuel (5/5): It was ok but should have book a backpackers - It is an old building an everything is old but still running. The lock box is right at the entrance and easy to access it. It is an old one so I had to give it several trials for the combination to work. It is kinda close to the CBD only by car and not really frequent public transport in the area. The lock box isn't in a secure area and anyone with a previous code can access it. The gates and entrance are open and it is not secure. There is no person onsite and if anything goes wrong there isn't a number you could call for help. A lot of permanent unfriendly 'tenants' living in the hotel.
- Lidia (6/5): - There was only 1 staff at reception on 1 day. There wasn't staff any other time. Being in the hospitality industry, there should be staff to welcome the guests, and be there to provide information and assistance.
- Philip (7/5): Good -
- Rhiannon (4/5): - The room was set out well for one’s needs. However it is in need of repair. Chips and marks and rust on the furniture. I understand it was cheap because of the condition there were cockroaches that came out during the night under the beds. I was planning on cooking the next day but I ended up canceling as I would not cook in a place like that.
The balcony door didn’t close properly.
There was a person outside whailing late at night which was a bit scary but the area is known for that.
I was grateful that I was given a refund went somewhere else the next day.
- Louis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leith (10/5): - It was lovely to meet you Amandeep, and thank you for making us feel welcome.
- Diane (1/5): Never again - Location to hospital Everything the place is filthy. Full of cockroaches. No blankets on beds or any spare. Advertised as self contained but not enough for 2 people & so filthy would not use.
- Gregory (4/5): Ok but would not be my first choice. Good value but a long walk into centre. - Very large room Room is very dated and in need of renovation. Noise from enclosed courtyard at times was unacceptable.
- Dean (8/5): Very good -
- Xiao (3/5): Not good. Never come back - The owner come quickly to fix the thing. Good attitude. It's every dirty and mouldy. The old place hasn't been maintenance really good. Too far to the city. 30 minutes walk.
- Carli (3/5): Poor -
- Aruba (10/5): I like the stay - Stay Relax
- Mrs.Jean (6/5): Family - very comfortable and clean. Pool and BBQ Area was great. Kitchen facilities minimal but enough. Staff friendly and very helpful. Towels for pool use provided.
- MermaidOZ (10/5): Lovely stay in a studio apartment with a double and queen size bed in walking distance to the centre of town - We have stayed at the Cairns Holiday lodge a few times and always enjoy our stay. It is a solid double brick building with a lovely tropical garden in the centre, fantastic pool and water feature and undercover BBQ area. The pool was crystal clear and refreshing in the hot climate. The room had a kitchen with oven and full fridge, table and chairs and a desk for computer. There was a comfortabl queen and double bed as well as a lounge. Bathroom included a bathtub with shower and hairdryer. Lovely quiet clean rooms with all you need. The kitchen had everything you need to cook and was clean and tidy. Mike and Suzie (the managers) are very helpful. Suzie cleans the rooms and they even clean room after 3 days stay and supply towels etc for stay. This is a comforyabl, safw and quiet place to stay in North Cairns. 5 minute walk to a choice of excellent restaurants including Thia, Pizza, Seafood fish and chips, chinese, healthfood cafe, coffee shops, laundrette, Annabels Bakery, supermarket, tavern, pub, bottle shops, newsagency, petrol stations and more. 20 minutes walk to the centre of town. 10 minutes walk to the Esplanade south or the Botanical gardens north. So much to see and do. Mike and Suzie will help book any sightseeing tours, hire cars etc to make a memorable holiday. Complex is safe with Security gates and plenty of parking. Lovely stay. Will come back again.
- TravelExpert (2/5): - A few run down units in an apartment block owned by various people managed by a grumpy couple who seem to be perennially unhappy to have you staying there. They will nickel and dime on practically all your needs and generally the less you interact with them despite their insistent, pushy sales tactics to buy tours from them at inflated prices, the more enjoyable your stay.Based on detailed ratings below, I give it 2/10 in overall ratings
Beds : Had a queen and a double in the room. The Queen mattress felt uncomfortable and when i mentioned it to the male manager, he practically shooed me away saying "I do not swap out beds, i cant keep everyone happy" just minutes after paying in advance $600 for a 5 night stay. After a call from expedia, the lady manager came over with one of those egg carton foam toppers and gave us a long speech on how much it cost them buying what is normally in every good hotel cupboard
Amenities/ room supplies: We were a family of 2 adults and a child paying 'extra person fee' of $50 for the child and all we got was 5 sticks of sugar,2 soap slivers,1shampoo,1 conditioner and 4 instant cofees.,we thought it will be refilled as part of room service but all the room got as part of 'service' is a swap of 3 towels with none of the other consumables refilled. On asking for sugar, i was offered a container of sugar the manager 'scavenged' from previous checkouts.Beyond abysmal service.
- leehC2285LP (6/5): Basic needs met at this accommodation - Stayed 4 nights in a large room on the 3rd floor with 2 double beds as requested. Room was clean but tired and worn. Curtains must have bee 20 years old and were almost thread bare. Shower was adequate but most of the water pressure was lost via the bath spout. The saving grace was it was tiled not carpeted and the beds were comfortable and clean. This place is screaming out for a make over. Friendly and helpful host(s) Good location close to some restaurants. Pool was clean but surrounding area unkempt. You get what you pay for.
- huinanw2018 (2/5): Very BAD Experience - I wanna complain about the costomer service.
The female manager named Suzie is exceedingly rude. She never care about the costomer’s feeling, only interested in arrange activities for the guests and get commissions. Every time we talk to her, she always show us an impatient attitude. Her tone and manner made us very uncomfortable. She is a nightmare. Don’t expect her give you a hand when you need any kind of help unless you book activies via her. Whenever we come to the reception, her face looks like someone owns her money.
Besides Suzie, the room is also terrible (but not as sucks as Suzie). No toothbrushes, no slippers, and no housekeeping. The shower temperature controller is useless and annoying, just like Suzie. Besides, you need wash and dry all the dishes before you checkout, or you will be charged.
The worst hotel I have ever experienced. And the worst people I have ever met. I won’t spent one more cent on this “hotel”.
- jackied379 (8/5): Friendly, good value hotel - We stayed a couple of nights here, then re-booked for a further three nights after a bit of travelling round. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and comfortable and met our needs. We had a private balcony, a double bed each and a bathtub. We enquired about booking an excursion to barrier reef and Mike and Suzie helped us decide and arranged it all for us while we were away, supplying us with towels without us asking. They also took delivery of some lost property for us. The hotel us in a great location, close to many restaurants, take-aways and also a bakery and supermarket, and it's within walking distance of the esplanade (quite a long walk). There's also a very pretty little courtyard garden in the stairwell and a swimming pool. There are a few minor issues - the WiFi is a bit erratic (no worse than some other places we stayed), there's a few stuffs in the paintwork, the grouting was a bit grubby and the taps in the bathroom and kitchenette were a bit old which is why I can't give a 5 rating. I'm ever in Cairns again, this is the first place I'd book
- sarah (8/5): Very good hotel - Has everything you need. Very good location. Staff were so lovely.
- Sheilabobs (10/5): Cuppa and Scones Tuesday 3rd October 2017 - I was at the Cairn Lodge in Ballyholme Bangor this morning with my Friend Helen for tea and scones I had a lovely lime and coconut scone and my Friend had white chocolate and Raspberry the Scones were just freshly made they were delicious the staff were very nice and helpful I would recommend Cairn Lodge for anyone walking along the beach to go and have a cuppa and scone I believe they do a very good breakfast I would have no hesitation visiting Cairn Lodge again soon
- Mark (10/5): The Best - The motel is in a great position, Mike and Suzie are the best managers you will find anywhere. They were so helpful in telling me where to go for meals, tours etc. I took sick when there and Mike took me to the Medical centre and then in hospital brought things to me. When I friend came up to Cairns to help me they took care of him until I was able to return to Brisbane. A big thank you to Mike and Suzie as I am sure I would not have received this help from any other motel manager
- nazrizzel (2/5): Terrible management - I stayed for 3 weeks and in that time on a number of occasions I heard the female hotel manager gossiping about the state of guests rooms to other guests staying here. She has a particular disdain for Indian guests. Terrible showers, once you set the temperature the water keeps changing from scolding hot to freezing cold. Loud airconditioners and no ventilation in kitchenette.
- Bob (6/5): Simple but comfortable - Clean room
Close to airport and walking distance to city
Old but suited our requirements
Friendly staff
Able to purchase tour tickets at front desk
- RJ (6/5): close to almost anything - The hotel is located within walking distance of nice places to eat, the boardwalk, and shops. The managers were very helpful with tours, places to eat, and what is available nearby. They were very nice as they answered our questions and acted like they really enjoyed helping us make selections.
- LBD82AUS (6/5): 3 night stay - The owners were very friendly and very helpful but the place is abit out dated but it's a room and we only stayed for 3 nights but unfortunately it was busy season so I couldn't find any other place but it still was a nice place to stay even tho it was a short stay
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Noisy air con and fans. Host more interested in getting commission for arranging activities. Shower temperature control useless with cold to burning at no warning.do not consider good value for money.
- Robert (10/5): Nice Hotel. - Nice, clean, comfortable, friendly, and very well managed home away from home. I will come here again.
- 627anuradhac (4/5): Horrible room service - The couple Mike and Suzie who look after this lodge are not adept with their job. Mike was a good old person, at least nice to talk to but the old lady Suzie was a nightmare. We are Indians staying in Sydney for years and we are naturalised Australian citizens but she didn't leave a moment to remind us that we are Indians and we carry bugs with us and spread diseases across. Such horrible nature of this lady that I and my partner didn't talk to her after our check-in. She never cleaned our room. Towels were not changed even after 3 days of stay. When asked about beach towel, she flatly refused first saying that we are late in asking for it.We went to get some tour information but she didn't bother to give any information saying that if we don't book any tour with her, she won't get 10% commission and she won't help us. Mike was at least bit helpful, gave us a local Cairns map and explained about the shops and places to visit nearby. I won't be staying in this lodge again.I will also adivse my friends visiting Cairns not to stay in this lodge. It's a waste of money!!
- Greg (8/5): Home away from home - The rooms was clean, spacious and well appointed and there were premium cable channels available on the TV.
Good value for money!
- Nicole (4/5): In need of renos - Tired motel needing a Reno. Room was clean, but still felt like it needed a good scrub. Shower was awful & barely had any water pressure.
- Harlow1958 (10/5): Cairns Accommodation - Had a wonderful stay in this accommodation. Susie the manageress was wonderful, helpful & a wealth of information. Even though it is a few years older than other places to stay, the rooms were clean, great beds, excellent water pressure, wifi great. All electrical gadgets worked & we had plenty of fresh clean towels & pool towels. Would definately stay here again, great for a budget holiday. Local bus stop at front door, taxis only take a few minutes to come, great local shops 2 mins away.
- Erran0726 (2/5): Horrible stay in my life - I understood why reviews on the female manager are so contrasting. She is nice and helpful unless you don't complain anything and book a tour with her. 1) I had booked a room with kitchenette first, but the room description was changed later. I sent inquiry because I wanted to cook during my stay. They kindly offered me an upgrade to a room with kitchenette. But the room was not the same as other rooms. 2) When I found some problems about facility, she told me the room hadn't have a kitchenette before and the problems were because of it. It meant it was not really an upgrade. 3) Potable electric stove was old and didn't work well. It took 40 minutes to cook pasta. 4) The room was not suitable for studying although I had informed them that I would go to school. My room didn't have fluorescent lights whereas other rooms had. I asked her if I could borrow a table light. And she told me to move a table in front of the toilet where was the brightest area in my room. 5) She did not try to book a tour which I was interested in, but tried to sell me another tour. When she knew that I had booked the tour with an agent outside, she got angry and complained about it. 6) I wanted to take off shoes in the room, so I wiped the floor everyday by myself. I asked her to take off her shoes when coming in. But she said NO. 7) She told me not to use water and electricity as possible since she could only receive 10% commissions from the owner of the lodge and less expense made her receive much more money. 8) WiFi was sometimes cut off from 9 PM to 7 AM. Password was changed without before/after letting know. 9) I was told to get out of the room for 2 hours while she clean the room. She used too much chemicals for cleaning. 10) On 17th day I decided to leave the lodge because I knew I could cancel my reservation and ask them refund. (I paid all when checking in.) My school advised me to tell them that I just had to go back to my county. But she told me to tell them the reason and to show my return ticket if I wanted to receive refund. She said she didn't believe me and she had known I was not happy with her and would try to move to another hotel. She added she would never let me go, watch me all the time and stalk me. But finally male manager persuaded her to give me refund because he didn't want to be heard our conversation by other guests. I had never had such a horrible experience. I will never ever come back to this accommodation.
- Ray and Milan (8/5): Nice hotel close to shops and restaurants
- Susie and Mike are great the nicest and most helpful people you could ever wish to meet.
- nurabhatnagar (8/5): A nice place to stay - A neat and nice place to stay. Very decently priced. Super market, bakery and eateries at 5 mins walk. The Cairns Esplande is about 2km away. The hotel help you take sightseeing & adventure tours around with decent discounts.
- noora23 (10/5): Great AirBnB experience! - We stayd with a friend in a studio that was spacious, bright and very clean. We both had queen sized beds and the kitchenette had all we needed for simple cooking. There is an amazing view to the rainforest that left us speechless! Also good laundry possibility and a pool are available for all guests. We felt like home in our studio and would definately recommend it & booking through Aussiewolf company! Tip: take a bus in front of the building to Palm Cove - a paradise just 30mins drive away!
- JSB_9519 (8/5): Basic, clean and helpful management - We stayed here for a week not knowing what to expect and although slightly dated our hotel room was spotless and had everything we needed, especially air conditioning! Mike and Susanne were both very helpful when booking activities, as well helping us with the local area with shops and restaurants etc. Thank you for our stay!
- Michelle (8/5): Good sized room with everything we needed - Susie and Mike were very helpful and gave us lots of useful info about local attractions. This was great for getting as much as possible from our limited time in Cairns.
- TripNess (4/5): Very dated & dodgy neighbourhood - Located a fair way away from town in what felt like a rather shady neighbourhood. Luckily we had a rental car, would definitely NOT feel safe walking here from town in the dark.
The whole place is very dated and could do with refurbishment. Old style bath, old tapware. Did not feel clean.
On the plus side - Beds were firm and the shower pressure good.
No lifts, though did offer help with the bags.
The couple at reception were okay if rather terse. Not too happy with us having pre-booked our day trips.
Wouldn't stay there again.
- Martin (8/5): - Facilities: Modest, Typical; Value: Fair price, Reasonable; Service: Courteous; Cleanliness: Pleasant;
- Lakmal (10/5): - Facilities: Top of the line;
- RLD_133 (6/5): Average but not the best - Stayed here for a few nights when visiting Cairns. The rooms were nice and reasonably priced with free wifi in the rooms. We had a double bed each too which was also a nice touch. The downside for me mainly was the area - felt really unsafe especially at night and it is a good 20/25 minute walk into town and some of the roads are quite dark etc. Not nice for 2 girls walking alone. Pool area is nice with BBQ facilities. I would stay again but would probably look somewhere a bit closer to town first.
- Maureni (10/5): Excellent - One of the best place I've ever stayed. It's not a posh place, but you are very welcomed with the managers, they are always be there for everything you need. Very kind staff, if I have another opportunity, I'll be there again.
I recommend.
- MikeHuntSwindon (6/5): Good location and reasonable prices - The Cairns Holiday Lodge is in a great location on the edge of Cairns. The motel is only a 10 minute drive from the airport and around 20 minutes walk into town. The owners are very friendly and helpful, the place looks a little tired in places but represents good value. Free Wi-Fi and great parking.
- gdaymate108 (4/5): Dodgy deal with a short temper - Booked under the impression that security was up to snuff for this day and age. All photos on the web show private balconies. Our unit has a dodgy door lock that a 2 year old could pick, and no private balcony. Instead we have this all accessible sliding door that is open to anyone to walk by and snoop in. When we complained the owner gave us a stick to secure the door. How safe and sound we felt with a trusty stick. We expressed calmly our concerns and the owner responded with anger, and said we where attacking her, and that all the Chinese love it here so we should too...I what a random and rude statement to make. We asked for our money back, and the owner gave all sorts of excuses. Meanwhile her friend was waiting for her to go our to the yacht club, which was explained to us to try and distract us. Also, the free wireless is not working at all, which we needed in order to conduct business. This place blows, and the service was brutal. 3 words DON'T BOOK HERE.
- _iJane_ (6/5): Very good and very bad -depends on what you consider important - Now I understand why the reviews for this place are so contrasting. The owners are lovely and can't do enough for you. The location is close to town but also a short distance from the airport.
However, our particular room is in need of maintenance. The door lock is only home style and you need to remember to push the lock in. The kitchen equipment was not clean. There is a sign saying you will be charged $10 if you don't was dishes. Our room had an overwhelming odor of cleaning chemicals. The room is only cleaned every 6 days and towels replaced every 3 days..
There are no lifts so you need to lug the bags upstairs. Ask for ground floor if stairs are an issue.
Wifi was patchy even if you stood under the router. But patchy wifi is common in cairns. I stay in cairns often and still can't find accommodation with wifi that is good enough for work purposes.
Overall this place is ok if you decide to overlook some discomfort but I do not think they can justify the room rate. There are better facilities for the same price nearby. Having said that, some travelers need to stay where they feel love and companionship and support - if that is the case, stay here. I can imagine that if you came to Cairns for health treatment, this place would be ok.
- andychem18 (8/5): A great Motel - The Cairns Holiday Lodge is a great motel on the edge of Cairns. The motel is only a 15 minute drive from the airport and a 15-20 minute walk from the middle of Cairns. The area is quite apart from the main road but the traffic noise is hardly noticeable. There are fast food restaurants and mini-supermarkets just down the road from the motel so food getting is no problem.
The motels rooms are tidy and have a small kitchen area with cooker and a fridge. The motel also has 2 laundry rooms which were a godsend after arriving with a suitcase of dirty washing (after a tour of Java and Bali). There is even a small pool if you want to relax after a hard days sightseeing.
- Sbug79 (8/5): Great stay for a family - We stayed here for a week and thought it was great. Clean rooms, very quiet. About a 25 min walk to Cairns city centre. Suzie was very helpful with all aspects of our stay, including booking tours for us. Would recommend.
