Guest Reviews
- Helena and Bryan (8/5): - Nice to have an excellent continental breakfast with fruit, cereal, toast and a choice of spreads. I would like to have seen the spreads in a small container with a spoon rather than being offered in a jar.

A real gem and one I wouldn't think twice about rebooking.
- Judith (10/5): Boutique accommodation with great home made food. 2ndvisit - Great place to stay. This is our 2nd visit and as good if nit better than the first time. Jo the owner and chef is excellent. Delicious food. BYO so nice to drink a bottle of wine bought earlier from one of the hunter valley wineries by the log fire before and after dinner. We'll be back. Thank you Jo for your hospitality you are a great host.
- margaret (10/5): - Fabulous place to stay... Excellent gourmet meals provided
- Georgia (10/5): - We had a beautiful stay here! Jo is so lovely and accomodating. She treated us to a delicious dinner upon our late arrival, as well as three course breakfasts both mornings! The entire guesthouse is impeccably styled, from the common areas downstairs to the rooms. This is a perfect option if youâre visiting the Hunter but prefer your own space, away from the hustle and bustle. Weâll definitely be back! Thank you Jo xx
- Andrew (10/5): The best hospitality Iâve experienced ! - What a wonderful stay. Jo was wonderful and her cooking skills amazing. It was such a pleasant surprise with quality finishes and beautiful accommodation. Will be visiting again.
- Sanna (10/5): - Lovely little rustic bed and breakfast. The hostess was amazing and super friendly. Sheâs a chef and made delicious breakfast too. We stayed there a whole weekend for a wedding and the hostess kindly borrowed an iron for my dress.
- Malkiat (10/5): - Jo was very welcoming, good place if got dog. Food she cooked was delicious.
- Peter (10/5): Fantastic stay - It was an absolute pleasure staying at the Table Guesthouse. Jo was a tremendous host and cook, providing a wonderful breakfast and the option for dinner which was sensational. Room was great as was the king size bed which was very comfortable. Great shower with plenty of pressure. Whilst there was an indoor area to wine and dine, the weather encouraged us to enjoy the outdoor Italian setting, just lovely. We also had our small dog join us and Jo was more than accommodating to make us and our dog feel comfortable. Will definitely stay again when in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great value for money just off the New England Highway. Plumbing is a little noisy. Very clean and outstanding hospitality
- Abraham (10/5): A Gem in the Hunter - This is one of the most beautiful little country houses in the hunter. Our host was wonderful and the little breakfast was super in the morning!
A true little gem!
- Michael (10/5): Excellent small guesthouse - We had an overnight stay on the way back to Sydney. Greta is a small quiet town now bypassed by the main road. An old cottage with modern facilities interesting furniture, very helpful host, good breakfast, excellent value for money. Easy walk to the Working Mens Club for dinner which was enjoyable or a few minutes drive to Branxton for more choice. Definitely worth the stop
- Peter (10/5): - Close to town centre and quiet location. The staff are friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable too.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Oooh la la what a lovely surprise staying at the French Provincial The Table Guesthouse recently. The facilities were great, room was clean (& cool since it was a hot 44 degree day!) & the host was lovely including the cute dogs & friendly cat. It suited our needs for a short night away & we also loved the recommended Royal Federal Hotel for dinner nearby. Thank you for having us, Gai-lee.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved my stay - Thank you. Clean rooms and friendly service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Booked this property for a last minute stay in the Hunter and it did not disappoint. Gai-Lee was absolutely wonderful, she left us to ourselves and made sure we were comfortable and looked after. The place itself very cute, clean and super comfy bed. Would definitely stay again.
- Guest (2/5): - The staff were lovely but the facilities were so unclean. The floor of our room as caked in dust and the whole place had an unclean feel. We woke up to music blaring, dogs barking and a vacuum running. Not ideal.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I had a lovely stay. Definitey relaxing and stress relief environment. Cosy and friendly ambiance. Will definitely come backđ
- Verified traveler (10/5): Just 1 night - Friendly host and lovely character guest house
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nicely furnished with a great comfy feel. Was really good to sit in the dining room with a cosy warm fire burning and get a bit of my work done. Nice and quiet.
- Denis (10/5): Stay in French farmhouse rustic but comfortable - Lovely farmhouse atmosphere with a French touch. Simple but good breakfast. Light airy rooms with good bathrooms. Great locations a little away from the commercialised hunter centres yet a good base for vineyard visits. Lovely hostess
- Verified traveler (6/5): Super Uncomfortable Bed - Bed was super uncomfortable. Wouldnât stay again even though it was cheap.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Cozy and inviting to say the least! - What a lovely stay! I was greeted by the friendly host and made to feel very welcome and comfortable. It was like a home away from home. The bedrooms were spacious and extremely inviting and comfortable. The ambience of the establishment is cozy and welcoming. The host gave me directions to get the loveliest of meals. I canât wIt to go back here for a longer stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The owner, is lovely, the house old but quaint. We had plumbing problems on the first night but moved rooms to a lovely room for the second night. Yummie breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderfuly relaxing, charming guesthouse. A real home away from home.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great - Great staff very friendly. Nice 10 mins drive to the heart of the wine valley
Nice and warm place to stay and relax by the fire
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely BnB easy arrival and leaving times flexible.GaiLee as host is a gem
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very cute guesthouse, beautiful lady who owns it, who canât do enough for you, loved staying there
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly B & B - This is a lovely friendly B&B not too far from the vineyards. The owner is really friendly and makes one feel very much at home.
- Biggles (10/5): - I'm regularly looking for nice clean simple accommodation when travelling for work. This guesthouse had everything - well appointed room, very comfortable bed, great shower, plenty of parking and all at a very reasonable price. If I'm ever in the area again I will have no hesitation staying here, my wife would love it.
- Karen (10/5): Hunter Valley stop off - We enjoyed our 1 night here on a long road trip. This is a beautiful property with lots of wooden floors and beams. Youâll be joined by the family dog and cat (in case you have allergies). We didnât mind. Close to vineyards but quiet and restful.
- JOHN (10/5): Brilliant ant and cheap place to stay - Great quirky place which was like home from home. The owner does not live on site but the house is immaculate and spotlessly clean
Rooms were brilliant
Bed comfortable
Large bathroom with great shower
Colour tv, fridge, hair dryer
WiFi free if charge
Breakfast included
Thank you Gai-Lee
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely Lady - The lady who ran this place was the reason it was good. She was good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely place to stay. Really friendly owners with knowledge of the area and the cutest little puppy
- Toby (10/5): Puppy - The guesthouse is lovely, but it's worth visiting just for the puppy
- Ken (4/5): Needs A Spruce Up ! - Warm friendly greeting. Disappointed that the facility was so run down and dusty.
The Courtyard was dirty and needs a good wash down ,the gardens need a tidy up as well. The room was at first glance O.K but also very dusty. Dusty to the point that you could write your name in the dust on the furniture. The T.V didn't work and there was mould on the shower floor. We got the impression that this had once been a lovely B&B that now needs some time and money spent on it.
On a positive note the bed and linen were good.
Whilst this might sound harsh it isn't meant to be. It is meant to bring to the owners attention that the facility needs some time spent giving it a good clean.
Would I stay there again ? YES if it was cleaned up, the location and layout are good .
As a caveat, we were there on a Tuesday night and the only guests, it may be different on a weekend. One thing for sure though is that dirt and dust like we experienced doesn't happen in a couple of days. It has built up over a period of time. Please give this facility the attention it deserves.
- jeff (10/5): close to town - great place to stay .close to hunter valley.great staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cute, Cosy & Comfortable B&B - Gai-Lee, the owner, is exceptionally welcoming and accommodating. Very easy-going attitude and easy location to get to. Very nice Australian B&B experience. We had room 1 which was spacious, including the ensuite. Was a little warm & sticky the first night without the aircon on (only one main controller for the 3 bedrooms) but this was rectified the second night.
Overall a wonderful introduction to the Hunter Valley and the hospitality of non-city folk.
- J (10/5): Beautifully decorated home | Perfect Getaway - - Immaculate accommodation
- Perfectly located 15-20 min away from the wineries
- Conveniently located in front of convenience stores/petrol station
- Happy couple (10/5): - Absolutely gorgeous and ambiant. Looked like a bnb you would find in Strasbourg, France at Christmas time.
We loved the exposed wooden beams, the decor and decorations, friendly owner and the adorable pets.
A great service we discovered is the option to have a catered dinner party there and then stay the night.
Perfect for a romantic stay. Not recommended for those with mobility issues due to the staircase.
- chloe (10/5): Adorable bed and breakfast - Stayed for 2 nights with my partner and absolutely loved every minute. The owner was so lovely and made us feel right at home. The room was lovely and clean! Basically had the whole place to ourselves cause the only other guests was the beautiful rag doll cat and tiny fluff ball puppy that gave us lots of kisses each morning.
- Verified traveler (10/5): fantastic stay - We had such a lovely time! The hostess is so welcoming, nothing's a problem, and she cooked a really scrumptious breakfast on Sunday morning. a great base for exploring the Hunter Valley. Comfy (firm) beds, beautifully built and appointed property. Will definitely stay again given the opportunity.
- Glenn (10/5): Such a pleasant surprise, terrific B&B - Wonderful to meet Gai-Lee and Marie, will definitely be going back!
- Sue (10/5): Lovely Guesthouse in the Wine Coyntry - From the moment we arrived we were treated like we were important. The whole atmosphere and the breakfast the company of the other guests was totally relaxed and friendly. Would definitely go back and would highly recommend.
- Ruthie (10/5): Lovely - relaxing after a day on the road - I enjoyed the relaxed feel, and hostess welcome. I could come and go as I pleased without pressure.
- claire (10/5): Lovely B and B - A great stay with awesome breakfast and great service. Not too far out of the hunter valley.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stunning guesthouse - We loved the table guesthouse. The garden and guesthouse was absolutely stunning, i felt like i was transported to an italian villa.
Gai-lee the guesthouse keeper was extremely friendly and hospitable, we felt at home.
We also loved the wonderful breakfast
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great vibe. - Easy to find and set in a convenient location for accessing the Hunter Valley wine trail and the fantastic Hunter Gardens Estate.
- Michael (10/5): Lovely, comfortable accommodation! - We had a great experience at The Table Guesthouse over the weekend. The location is great, just a short drive from the wineries. The rooms were very comfortable and the owner is lovely. Ollie, the resident Ragdoll Cat was a great source of entertainment!
- Mar (6/5): It's winter in the country. - It was a very cold night, the bed had a cotton blanket. TV remote needed batteries -- hidden in the closet. I was very happy to find a doona also in the closet to re-make the bed in the cold room. There was no WiFi, or informative paperwork in the room to give that kind of essential, basic information. The proprietor must have had other things going on when I arrived as the "get-acquainted" phase of my stay was about 5 minutes- keys given, room shown. Boom, she was gone. The town has a McDonalds and a bakery, a pizza /fish n chips shop and liquor store. Good thing there was a nice fire with table in front of it for me to eat my fish and chips in a warm spot. But overall, It was cold and dreary, both the stay and the town. PS, the owner had a very nice Cat -- he would have been welcomed in my cold bed!
- Diana (10/5): Visiting Hunter Valley? Perfect place to stay - My husband and I stayed 1 night at the hotel. We had a lovely time there. The room is clean, comfortable and rustic, bathroom clean with all the facilities we needed. Gai-lee, the owner, prepared a lovely and complete breakfast for us and gave us all great tips to visit the best wineries and excellent restaurants at the region. Highly recommended!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Our Hunter Valley Trip - The accomodation was in inpeccable condition and the staff were friendly, welcoming and made us feel right at home. For what was available, the pricing was fair. Only approximately 15 minutes from Pokolbin.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very short stay, friendly owner and helpful. - Great feel about a finch like guest house. Simple but it's all I needed.
- Vanita Vidal (10/5): brilliant! - fabulous service great quality accommodation
- Mike (10/5): Near to the "Wine Trail" - Lovely guest house, provencal style setting, plenty of parking, convenient for the wine trail, close to petrol stations, shops and cafes.
- yeung ying (10/5): Good location and clean - Owner was great and provide help quickly.
- Diane (10/5): Old-fashioned but modern - The guesthouse had a old-fashioned feel with all the modern amenities you would expect. It was close to the vineyards, as well as Morpeth, Maitland and Cessnock and the surrounding areas.
- James (8/5): Good value close to wineries. - Nice owner, lovely building, clean comfortable room with nice bathroom. Good value too.
- Alex (10/5): Friendly staff - Service was great, helpful and rooms were tidy and clean. Location is a little far out but only a short drive to the wine country. Would reccomend.
- cf (8/5): Lovely - It was just a quick stay as we were in the Hunter for hot air ballooning but we were very warmly welcomed. The bed was very comfortable & it was a lovely place. It would've been nice to stay longer - maybe next time!
- Gabby (10/5): An Amazing and Memorable Experience - I cannot say enough great things about this place. The Table Guesthouse had a beautiful, homely atmosphere while still providing the peace and privacy you want when having a romantic weekend away.
We were greeted warmly by the host who showed us around the house and took the time to recommend places for dinner and even offering to organise a taxi.
Sitting in front of the fire enjoying the wine and cheese we bought earlier in the day was just heaven. The bedroom itself was very comfortable and cosy and the home-made breakfast served the next day was amazing. Not too far at all from the vineyards.
I will definitely be back soon with family and friends!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Gai-Lee was wonderful, she was very helpful and lovely to talk to. We will definitely be staying again next time we're in the area.
- Anita (10/5): Charming Retreat From it All - We had a very comfortable stay and sleep in the lovely French style home. The hostess is warm and genuine, happy to help out in any way and made us feel right at home. She has the best tips for what to do and where to go for what in the region.
- Francine (8/5): Authentic French Country House In The Hunter - Charming stay at warm and rustic B&B. Lovely Breakfast set at famous long table in front of cosy fire.
- Verified traveler (10/5): totally worth it! - Gailee, the owner of the hotel, is such a lovely person. She was really helpful with everything! If you are looking for a place to scape for a couple of days or more this is it! This place is perfect if you want to spend a cozy night: the garden is beautiful and the french styled living room is adorable! My friend and I, two girls from South America, were trying to scape from the chaoticcity and found the right peaceful place. We are definitely coming back! Thanks for all the attention, Gailee :) Fillo and Laura
- HappyTraveller (10/5): A very notable B & B--excellent - We found The Table Guesthouse in Greta simply wonderful. It offered a true getaway with all of life's needs. It was simply but so accommodating
- Verified traveler (8/5): Relaxing - A really relax feel, we had a lovely time relaxing with some wine in the courtyard with our friends.
Great rooms very comfy beds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Extremely clean wonderful place with super friendly people
- Kim (10/5): A Weekend at the vineyards. - The B&B was a surprise, Greta with the change of traffic now that the Freeway is open is again reclaiming its quiet village statis. The Table is decorated as a French farm house and this is done very tastefully. There are 3 good sized bedrooms with ensuits, we were a party of 3 couples so this worked for us very well and we had the run of the house. Out front is a vine covered court yard where we had breakfast. Breakfast was a feast with everything you could possibly want. We toured the vine yards Saturday, went to a concert at Hope Estate and found a wonderful Italian restaurant everything is close by. For the concert we caught a mini bus suggested by the owners it picked up from the front door, this was the best way to travel as we usually drive and it can take hours to leave the car park.
- Greg (10/5): Great B&B! - Little bit of a drive to the wineries but well worth it as place to stay.
- Tourist Tanya (8/5): Country hotel in the Vineyard Region - Country home with a beaut front courtyard and cozy comfortable rooms. The dining area looked pretty with all the wonderful decorations for Xmas. Very homey warm feeling provided by Owner and staff :) Would recommend anytime.
- Bev (8/5): Good position. - A great stay... closer to the wineries than I thought. Very good value for a mid-week stay.
- Caitlin (10/5): Very friendly staff. - Had a great time at The Table Guesthouse. Gai-Lee was very kind and welcoming. The facilities were immaculate.
- Kathy (10/5): Short n Sweet - Gai-Lee is the perfect host. Her little guest house was very clean n comfortable. Breakfast was delish, an array of juice, fruit, yogurt n bacon/eggs - generous of heart.
I would highly recommend and would return to stay without hesitation.
- Robert (10/5): Wonderful personal experience with a French vibe. - Terrific place to stay in Greta. Warm and friendly host. Great breakfast to start the day. Very clean and cozy. Would definitely recommend if travelling to the Hunter Valley with easy access to wineries. Many thanks
- arjun (10/5): Cute welcoming place and we took our 13 month old - My wife and I spent two nights over the weekend along with our 13 month old daughter. The hostess made us feel welcome and provided toys and high chair for our daughter. The room was beautiful and the courtyard was great to let the little one run around. The hot breakfasts in the morning were as good as in a cafe. Will stay again :)
- James (10/5): Very highly recommended - We had a great time at The Table. The owner made us feel very welcome even before we had arrived. Perfect spot for a weekend away in the Hunter.
- Peter (10/5): Rest and Relaxation, a wonderful place to stay - We had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Table Guesthouse for 2 nights in October 2015. The house is furnished with a lot of amazing French furniture mostly antiques and it all goes together to make the house look and feel very homely.
The bathroom on-suite was large and had everything we needed. The bedroom was large and the bed was very comfortable. There was tea and coffee making facilities downstairs with an amazing selection of teas.
The owner Gai-lee was great, very helpful, friendly and happy.
The guesthouse is in Greta which is a fair distance away from the wineries in the Hunter Valley (about a 20 minute drive) so if you are going to visit the wineries then you will need to have a designated driver or find another alternative.
There are no restaurants in Greta so you will have to travel to one of the many restaurants in the surrounding areas in the Hunter Valley, however there is a Chinese restaurant in the local Greta Workers Club that is cheap and has very generous serves but is not a classy restaurant by any means and I would only consider it as a reserve.
There is a brand new MacDonalds (as at October 2015), a Subway and a local bakery so you can get a quick feed if you wish. We ate at the bakery and the pies were very good as were the cakes.
- Samantha (10/5): Great stay! - Great little house with beautiful rooms. Very friendly people. Will stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a lovely two nights in Greta with easy access to the Pokolbin.
- Janniek (6/5): Nice find - The bed and breakfast seemed like an great idea and after reading the reviews we were looking forward to it. Unfortunately it wasn't for us. We were put in the middle room, in between the two other rooms which where occupied by the same family. As it is a small place, this was very awkward. Other than that the sheets were pristinely cleaned but had a lot of black hairs under the pillow, the fridge was empty and the tv extremely small. The staff was extremely friendly.
- Geordie (8/5): An affordable alternative. - We have stayed at an array of hotels and B&B's in the Hunter over the past 15 years, but never in Greta. Perceivably, Greta seems a little removed at 15 minutes drive from Pokolbin, yet we found this no deterrent, especially when we located this little gem of a B&B that was value for money. I recommend 'The Table Guesthouse' for those looking to avoid unnecessary spending on other accommodation options that offer nothing more than being 10 minutes closer, yet at double the price and a whole lot busier.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect in every way - Beautiful room, warm and friendly service, extremely clean/hygienic, great location, affordable price.
- Shu (10/5): Nice family run hotel - It's a nice little place to stay. The hosts/staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. The Guesthouse provides good lounge and kitchen for guests. Their French style environment made us feel differently than in other hotels. Good coffee too! I certainly recommend this Guesthouse.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value - Everything was good, nice rooms, excellent breakfast, great value for money. I would have expected tea and coffee making facilities in the room (e.g., electric kettle, cups, tea bags etc.)
- Robert (10/5): My new secret getaway - Warm friendly environment, felt right at home as we walked through the front door.
- terry (10/5): cosy country cottage - this is a lovely place to stay if you want to be near the wineries in the Hunter. the staff were lovely (thanks Nicky and Marie), the beds amazingly comfy and the atmosphere of the cottage is farmhouse comfort, especially with the roaring log fire in the dining room!. we enjoyed our 2 night stay and the great full breakfast each morning, I would definitely recommend The Table to other travellers.
- amanda (10/5): Wonderful weekend get away - A beautiful place to stay for a weekend away, Gailee and her daughter made us feel very welcomed in their home, we would highly recommend this place and look forward to visiting again soon.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Was suitable for my nature of stay. Very clean and tidy, friend staff
- Mitch (10/5): Warm & Welcoming - We had a great weekend staying at The Table. The place itself is a nice old house and the host couldn't be more welcoming. The only real issue was eating too much for breakfast!
