- Adrian (10/5): - Very clean room, it had plenty of beds, which made our stay incredibly convenient and comfortable without feeling cramped. The highlight, however, was the washroom. It was genuinely huge!
- Anne-Rose (10/5): - At first blush, looked like a scene from a horror movie but learned never to judge a book by its cover!! Surpassed our expectations! More amenities than most motels, huge space, lots of blankets, pillows and kitchen/ cooking utensils. The staff were lovely and helpful. Laundry was easy and fast to do. The restaurants in town were a total vibe for a Friday night. Close to walks, glaciers, waterfalls. Would absolutely stay here again!

- Shaghayegh (6/5): - My review applies mainly to the backpacker room, which I accidentally booked. While it did have a private bathroom and shower, it lacked basic amenities—there wasn’t even a kettle to boil water. Unfortunately, we arrived just as the staff member on duty (who had been unwell) was leaving, despite confirming over the phone she'd be there until 6PM (reception is meant to be open until 7PM). She saw us drive in but continued on, which left us without assistance on arrival. As a family of four, we would have happily upgraded to two double rooms—there were many available—but without staff on-site, this wasn’t possible. Another disappointment was that the games room (one of the key reasons we chose this place) was also closed. The shared kitchen, as part of the campground facilities, had no forks or spoons available. When I spoke to the owner the next morning, she explained that utensils often go missing. I’d suggest placing a basic set in backpackers room with no alternative and charging guests if they're not returned. This was the only night of our 12-day South Island trip we had planned to eat in, so the experience was quite frustrating. I understand that staff getting sick is out of anyone’s control, but it was unfortunate not to be welcomed or offered options. I can only speak honestly about our experience. That said, I do want to mention that the other rooms looked clean, modern, and very inviting—as I could see through the windows!

- 326fionae (8/5): Lovely! - We arrived in pouring rain which continued all night which always makes it difficult to see a place in a positive way. Reception super lovely over the phone and on arrival, great site near hanger/amenities, bathroom facilities spotless and beautiful hot shower! Only issue was not enough showers for such a big place, only two in each gender and 3 toilets and kitchen doesn’t have enough cooking appliances for the amount of people it accommodates, otherwise we had a great stay!

- MichaelP601 (2/5): Angry aggressive woman at reception - Ive just had the most angry aggressive woman at registration. I can only assume she is the owner as no staff member would treat a customer in this way. I booked and paid online. When we turned up it was absolutely pouring down and the office was closed. We drove around to a site where we were going to wait until they were open to find what site they had put us on. A woman came to the door and asked what the hell we were doing. Made me drive back around to reception where her aggression continued until i walked out of the office. Never been treated like this in my whole 72 years.

- Michael (8/5): Motel OK, Haast not so much - We had the upper corner room with the king bed. Very comfortable and great pillows. Quite roomy. But the description describes a balcony and the photos show "a balcony" off the living room. Its not a balcony, its a common terrace for everyone on the upper floor with no partitions. In all honesty, the room was fine but Haast has nothing to offer. We had probably our worst meal in NZ at the bar because there are very few options. The tiny grocery store us overpriced and has minimal selections. We made canned soup in our room for dinner. If possible, drive further up the coast to Fox Glacier to stay as it is a pretty town with better infrastructure.

- Russell (6/5): - It was at the end on the road, we were glad to have safe harbor. The layout of the apartment rooms was large and a bit strange, like perhaps converted from an owners residence.

Felt like a goldfish in this place, absolutely no privacy at all, no net curtains or blinds so the person from the next unit parked outside our window and could look straight in as could the people from the block opposite. Very little in the way of consumables and quite honestly pretty poor for one of the most expensive places we stayed at. Certainly not much river to be seen. Not sure what other accommodation is like in Haast but wouldn't recommend this place.

Comfortable bed and great hot water in shower. We had kettle and toaster and fridge, reasonable price. Good service

All the camp sites filled up and lots of people were enjoying the shared inside spaces. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Very well run establishment.

This was witnessed by several people in the kitchen area and was certainly a conversation that could have been delivered in a more compassionate way. Facilities were basic but that is okay - it did the job. It is more so the staff that resulted in a poor review on this. Campground appears to flood a lot and can be muddy so be prepared if you are in a tent. Overall, I'd be unlikely to visit again despite the central location.
