• susan (6/5): We had a great time on the island but I would not stay there again - close to town. Lovely leafy garden we booked a two bedroom apartment but they had reserved a one bedroom. This room was very musty. They did swap it for a two bedroom after suggesting to us that we ask another client to swap! The other apartment needed to be cleaned. It was still very dirty behind furniture. The host was not contactable on several occasions.

• Jennifer (4/5): - The place is a building site. There was no hot water the first night. The water out of the taps had sediment in it. I had to buy drinking water. Builders started power tools at 7.15am on two mornings. Tour buses did not pick up from this place.
• Deborah (6/5): - Hideaway is quiet, except for the rooster, clean and comfortable. The pool looks bigger in the photos, but is only a plunge pool. Stove and microwave dated, but owners in process of updating. Driveway was narrow and needed a lot of attention. • Jo (10/5): - Our second stay here in 8 months. On this occasion we booked the chalet which is completely separate to the other guest accommodation. Is is one bedroom with a king size bed that converts to twin beds if required. The Retreat is quiet and peaceful, even with a full compliment of guests staying. Karen is a superb host and is a great credit to the property. We thought this might be our last visit to Norfolk Island given the world has re-opened but it is just such a relaxing place, so beautiful and the history is extraordinary. We’ll be back and I don’t think we would consider staying anywhere else.
• Verified traveler (10/5): - We really enjoyed our time here. The apartments are clean, comfortable and have mesmerising views of the hillside. There are some basics - tea/coffee etc - to get you started but as we don’t often stay in self contained apartments, remember to bring your own shampoo. We loved the location, far enough away from the town centre but close enough to walk to although we were dreadfully lazy in that regard. We were met at the airport by the lovely Wendy and followed her back to the retreat in our hire car. The manager, Karen, was in constant contact with us prior to arrival due to the lockdown restrictions but we were fortunate not to have our travel plans disrupted. Many reviews mention Karen’s hospitality and she is certainly a great asset to the retreat. As for the island itself, it is truly magical and had it not been for COVID we probably would have never travelled here. We are already planning to return.
• Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to town but secluded in natural country surroundings. You do need a car there as it is too far to walk more than once a day. The hotel manager will organise a car for you. Fully self contained apartments so you can do your own cooking and catering.

• Antbird1 (10/5): Self-Contained Apartments in Secluded Location - Spacious apartments located in spacious grounds but close to Burnt Pine and the National Park. Grounds include an orchard with rain forest margins and Norfolk Is pines. Apartments are well equipped and include loan of a Norfolk Island mobile phone and a wi-fi hotspot.
• George (8/5): Beautiful Norfolk Island - This is a great place to 'chill out'. Everything moves at a leisurely pace - even max speed limit on the island is 50kph, less in town. Wonderful views everywhere you turn, coupled with safe swimming beaches. Every whim of the tourist is catered for. Fruit trees everywhere to help yourself. This was our second visit to Norfolk Island, and in 10 days we still didn't see or do everything we would have liked. The residents are friendly and helpful.
• Verified traveler (8/5): A wonderful retreat - Fully self contained apartment tucked away surrounded by beautiful trees and gardens and birdlife. Although it feels you are hidden away you are actually only a two minute drive from the main street of town. The staff are friendly and the rooms comfortable. You can even pick fruit straight off the trees for your snacks!
