Guest Reviews
- SARAH (2/5): - This is not a hotel, it is a hostel. The shared washrooms are not clean, the shower stalls are covered in mould above and below. We actually left the hotel because we felt so uncomfortable. The "front desk" is serving staff (not their fault), and it was on a busy Triva night so we were not able to speak to someone. We just wanted to get out. When I contacted TD about the issues they tried to contact the Hotel and they didn't answer it took multiple days to get an answer and the hotel did nothing, no refund. The room was very loud and we could hear multiple strange noises from our AC unit.
- Susie (8/5): - Room was generally clean, Staff were excellent and friendly. Would have been great to have kettle and cups in the room.
- Margaret (10/5): - Room was clean and comfortable, amenities accessible and clean. My only issue is that I have mobility issues, and climbing several flights of stairs was very daunting. Perhaps some mention of this on the website might be helpful for similarly challenged people.
- Maureen (2/5): - The shared bathroom facilities were totally inadequate. The toilet seat was broken and there was only one toilet.
The doors are very noisy and hard to open and shut.
Luckily the bed was comfortable.
The staff were lovely but I would not recommend the Albion for a stay to anyone.
- David (4/5): - Website misled and did not make it clear about shared bathroom facilities
- james (2/5): - False advertising
- Niraj (6/5): - Ok
- Isabella (8/5): - Stayed here for two nights and had a good experience. It's exactly what you'd expect for the price range. Clean enough. I think the bad reviews come from people not knowing what they're in for when staying above a pub. I recommend reading all the reviews to know exactly what you're in for, then there aren't any surprises (slight tobacco smell, noise from pub, loud old doors, shared bathrooms etc).
- Jayden (10/5): - The accomodation was beautiful, i look forward to staying there again
- MINA (10/5): - Super friendly staff!!!!
- Ingrid (8/5): - I enjoyed the modern room and big comfortable bed also being able to control the temperature in the room. I enjoy being able to come and go as i pleased as well. I didn’t like having to share a bathroom having to go through the pub to get to the accommodation stairs, there was no kitchen upstairs for tea and coffee etc… also there was no insulation from the noise downstairs in the pub. In the end though it suited my needs as i just needed a place to sleep for the night before travelling back home.
- Tony (8/5): - There was no free continental Breakfast as advertised otherwise it was good
- Mark (10/5): - It was good and affordable would stay again
- Tony (8/5): - Rather a pleasant stay, short and Sharpe. Nice, friendly staff and really not bad for the price.
- Catherine (10/5): - Comfortable, clean, spacious and tastefully furnished rooms with clean high standard bathrooms. Overall, very well managed. And a great location only a short walk from the Newcastle Interchange station.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Comfortable rooms
- Wade (6/5): - Great location. Walkable into the city centre and Honeysuckle restaurant area.
Property is tired.
No lock on the window.
Noticeable hole 30cm x 20cm under carpet just inside the entry to the room.
- Wai Ming (8/5): - Overall is good experience. The staff is nice that allow me to go back to the hotel to take a shower after the full marathon run in Newcastle. The bathroom is shared and clean.
It would be improved if the room can have some sort of kettle and small table can be provided inside the room.
- Trevor (10/5): - Excellent value for money. 5 minute walk from Newcastle Interchange. Excellent meals. Easy check in. Well restore pub. Close to shopping centres and restaurants and supermarkets.
- Carmen (10/5): - Room was modest, comfortable, quiet, bathroom was clean, modern and all you needed. Staff were helpful and accomodating. Check in and out was easy and straightforward. Great value for money. Location for me was excellent. Definitely would stay again.
- Danielle (10/5): - Friendly, helpful staff. Lunch was delicious. Good location
- Jessica (8/5): - Good for what we payed, clean bedrooms bathrooms regularly cleaned pub not loud and can’t hear from bedrooms and nice friendly staff.
- Christopher (8/5): - Nick, Drew and the nightshift bar staff and security were incredibly friendly. Nice to have pokies there.
The beds were comfortable and clean. Nice wide screen television in room. You get two towels. No hangars. Big divets in wood floor that was carpeted over. Felt like my foot would go through at times. Could hear bar speakers through floor but was advised beforehand on check in when signing agreement sheet. It was good music. Could hear car noise, but I had earplugs.
Some locks on loos and showers were broken but a wood door stop was provided.
Soap dispensers in showers and sink area. Toilet brushes in loos were broken. Showers could be cleaner.
I''m not used to the pub hotel style accomodations w/ a shared shower and toilet facility, so I don't know what to expect. It was worth the great value.Three other groups of people I met in town were staying there as well as someone from the train I came in on. So convenient to transpo and city. I'd give it another go. Just minor fixes needed and I'm sure they will be working on them. I'm confident in that.
- Joanne (2/5): - Was disgusting. Handed the keys back in 10 minutes after checking into our room and booked somewhere else. One toilet SHARED with the rest of the accommodation. when booked it didn’t state this. Absolutely disgusting would NOT recommend.
- Tomasz (8/5): - Room was nice and comfy and clean. Showers were roomy.
Bit of a shame about the toilet seats that were not bolted in place
- David (8/5): - The men's shared bathroom toilet, of the 2 toilet cubicles both had broken toilet seats.
- Allan (10/5): Great Value - Very impressed. An excellent budget accommodation.
- Lisa (8/5): - NO towel in the room - did not discover until the next morning (early) and no one around to assist.
- Ross (6/5): A friendly host, comfortable beds but loud - Host Nick was very accommodating allowing us to drop our bags early so a big thanks for that. Hotel was fine, clean newly refurbished rooms but slightly dingy and unclean bathrooms. Main issue was the noise which went on late into the night. Felt like we were downstairs in the pub with heavy bass, thankfully as we were backpackers we had earplugs but would have had a hard time sleeping without (hence why I’m writing this review). I suppose it’s well priced so this - and not having an en suite - is what you get.
- Sam (10/5): - Excellent value and facilities, rooms were comfortable and freshly renovated with a good AC and smart tv
- Gregory (8/5): - A comfortable, conveniently located hotel at a good price.
- Gregory (8/5): - Clean, recently renovated property located central to Gosford.
- Adrian (8/5): - Very nice room and facilities
- Chris (4/5): - The staff here were friendly. The rooms are very average particularly when you find a packet of open condoms in your bedside drawer and an open box of tissues on the top
Maybe im a bit stupid but when you view the add for the place it looks like they have a bathroom attached - unfortunately not
Beyond the staff the place is not much chop
- Jennifer (8/5): - Great location and having a restaurant available was a pleasure The only problem is the rooms need glasses in them
- Elayne (10/5): - Absolutely loved it .
The beds and linien was on par with cystallbrook kinsley .
The food was amazing home made quality none of the typical pub frozen food .
Staff were so welcoming and helpful and happy vibe .
Chill quiet decent pub .
Highly recommmened 10/10
- Samer (2/5): - Wasn't a good experience poor and disappointed quality of service
- Caroline (8/5): - The bar staff were some of the friendliest I've encountered, they even brought out some worstershire sauce to put with my tomato juice to make a bloody Mary!
- James (6/5): - .
- Paul (10/5): - Overall good
- Josiah (10/5): - Wonderful servis :)
- Josiah (10/5): - Wonderful services :)
- Wendy (8/5): - Clean room, lovely building. Flashing neon light outside a bit annoying for sleeping but otherwise good value for money.
- Alma (8/5): - I didnt like the light flashing From outside and into The bedroom, it Is annoying and I could not sleep because of the colourful light.
- George (10/5): - Needed better pillows and somewhere to hang towels cloths etc
Very clean, freshly painted and renovated
- Karen (8/5): - It was clean, convenient, friendly staff.
- Ian (10/5): - Great staff, the rooms were very comfortable.
The kitchen was closed for the Easter weekend, but walking distance to every restaurant in town so was not an issue.
Awesome place. Highly recommend staying
- Julia (8/5): - Good, comfortable and clean pub accommodation with shared bathroom facilities. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location within easy and short walking distance from Newcastle transport interchange. Bistro was under renovation at the time, so no dining facilities available.
- Lisa (8/5): - Rooms were clean and well equipped. Shared bathroom was kept clean as well
- Megan (8/5): - Had balcony room. Was great sitting having a few bevs before going out on a lovely Friday afternoon
- Glenda (8/5): - So good to be close to the Interchange. Dinner service veery good. Maybe I should have asked, but there didn't seem to be any breakfast??? Just toast and a cuppa would be good.
- Sally (6/5): - Cool night no blanket- no coat hangers and share bathroom
- Steven (8/5): - Easy and clean for a night’s stay. I would recommend.
- Rosa (10/5): - Easy walk to Newcastle interchange tram line.
Comfortable bed and helpful staff
- Murray (10/5): - Very comfortable king bed was excellent
- Kirrilly (8/5): - Standard pub room with some recent renovations. Comfortable king bed. Quiet and private room.
- Wen-lun (10/5): - Perfect price and room
- Jonathan (6/5): - The stay was alright, but certainly not outstanding. Rooms were clean enough, though the aircon unit in mine was busted for the two nights I was there, which made things pretty uncomfortable in the heat. Fire alarm also went off during the second night at 3am.
Both these things could reasonably be outside the control of the operators, though they did put a dampener on my stay.
- Courtney (2/5): - Outright disgraceful being harassed by workers an a very unpleasant stay you have a homeless couple and expect me to cop it i want refunded today
- Eben (10/5): - Was very noice
- DEAN (4/5): - NO ACCESS BACK TO ROOM IF YOU GO OUT IN THE MORNING FOR BREAKFAST - YOU CAN'T GET BACK IN UNTIL 10 AM
NO HOT WATER TO SHOWERS
- Christy (10/5): - The staff where very friendly and helpful
- Colleen (10/5): - It's very convenient and has everything you need.
- Chris (8/5): - excellent price for a stay in a traditional "hotel".... rooms above a pub with shared bathroom facilities . room renovated , clean, warm, comfortable , black out curtains, quiet
- Samuel (6/5): - No tea and coffee and jug.
- Simone (8/5): - Good for the price - rooms on the road side a bit noisy and bright lights, but the rooms ad shared bathroom nice and clean. Fine for a quick stay.
- Anthony (6/5): - Generally ok however need to be able to enter property after 10:00pm cannot really enjoy local night life if you don’t have a key or pass after 10:00pm to enter hotel
- Parul (2/5): - Shared and dirty washrooms.
- Sharyn (2/5): - Couldn’t stay because friend booked for me
- Phillip (2/5): - It may be acceptable to those who don't mind downstairs noise till 3am in the morning and using shared bathrooms.
- Steve (10/5): - Nice clean
- Matthew (8/5): - Only stayed one night. Room was basic but clean and comfortable. Good access to tram and dining places. Would stay again.
- Peter (10/5): - Great clean accommodation
- Tim (8/5): - Staff most helpful and very friendly.
Pub has a great vibe to it.
Thank you.
- Darren (8/5): - Quaint old country pub style. Room clean & tidy. Just about complete with renovations. Noise from bar downstairs was reasonable. The only thing which could improve but will not happen is having a private bathroom. The shared shower & toilets are very old fashioned these days but ok for a single nights stay at the prices charged.
- Fiona (10/5): - All new bath rooms and bed rooms, very clean and safe. Thanks team @ the Albion. Also the bottled water in the room was a nice touch.
- Todd (8/5): - I was attending a function at Souths Leagues Club in Merewether, the distance is walkable, but don't believe Google, plan your own path. It is around 2.75km. It takes around 45 minutes.
The property is well maintained and good quality.
Parking is fine.
The rooms are modern and quite good, but no facilities like a sink, fridge, kettle, tea bags, coffee etc.
The amenities are shared ie. toilets and showers.
There is a supermarket within 1/2 blocks to buy a sandwich etc. and a few cafes/restaurants close by, including dining options at the Albion.
- Sean (4/5): - There was no ensuite for the price I paid, which was costly.
The loud music was playing till 3:30am.
- Cassandra (4/5): Less than impressed. - There is no bathroom in your room. It is shared amenities only. This is not mentioned in the room details. There is a 10pm curfew, and then the doors to re-enter are locked. There is a phone number on the back of the room door that you are able to ring, however we were advised one guy is away, and the other isn’t far away, but no idea whose number was whose. We had to call both numbers numerous times to even get an answer. It was not advertised there was a curfew before booking. It was grand final night. The knights girls won! Even Nanna doesnt want to be tucked up in bed by 10pm on a long weekend, while on holidays! I travelled all the way from Adelaide. I'm less than impressed.
- Alex (4/5): - First of all, there is no private toilet or bathroom in the room! Second, it's really noisy because of the pub, and the speaker is just underneath the room, so we can hear everything from the TV downstairs. Also, the pillows are not clean, all of them have a sweat smell, that's really disgusting! The staff are not very friendly, the service are only on average. We tried to eat some takeaways at the corner in the dining area when it was pretty quiet, and no customers was there at all. But the staff just walked towards us and said 'this is the middle of a restaurant, you cannot eat here, you can eat in your room'. That's it, and he knows there is no tables or chairs in the room, right?
In general, this experience was poor, it's the worst hotel we have ever stayed in Australia in the past 6 years. Don't recommend this place at all.
- Linnet (6/5): - Great location. No fridge in room; no access to accommodation area after 10pm; no shelves in wardrobe area
- Michael (10/5): - Can’t beat the price and people.
- janice (10/5): - It was a heritage building and we appreciated the refurbishments
- Sue (8/5): - The staff were friendly and helpful. The pillows were very comfortable.
- Ray (6/5): - The king room was small, no coffee/tea making facilities, shared bathrooms. The hotel only makes one room key available which means a couple cannot go to their bathrooms at the same time given bathrooms are key entry.
The room was nicely refurbished as was the accomodation floor,.
Music from the pub downstairs was loud. There is no lift, stairs only.
We wouldn’t stay there again, it wasn’t for us, we made a mistake.
- Prekchhya (2/5): - Had an awful experience during my stay. Its the false advertisement that they have on the website. It says continental breakfast but when I went to the reception to know about it, they told me to help myself with whatever’s in the kitchen. They had a bread in the fridge and few cereals and when I tried to use the microwave, it didn’t work. I informed them about it but no one helped. There was not even a bottle of water to drink. Didn’t expect a $269 room booked for just one night to be like this. Really disappointed. Would not recommend the place to anyone. Couldn’t sleep the whole night due to the loud music downstairs. Very bad experience.
- sharon (8/5): Location . Great value - Great location
Comfy bed
Light continental breakfast provided
Bit noisy as band playing underage room
- Angela (2/5): - We payed for two queen rooms for three days. It cost us $2500
we were given one queen room and on very tiny double room and the bed in the double room was at shin height broken with a big bow in the entire bed.
We spoke to the man who checked us in and he was quite dismissive of us and said its not his problem he dose not own the place. My partner asked if he could please come up stairs and see for himself what we were given. He did so under sufferance. When he got to the room he saw that the bed indeed was broken and not a Queen room at all. So instead of giving us a new room he told us he would move the bed from another room into our room. Honestly this made no sense to us as we were still in a room that was a double and not the queen room we had paid for. Anyway He assured us this would be done by the time we got back. Needless to say this never happened at all. We arrived back to our room ant nothing had changed. We had to sleep on the broken bed which was sunken. In the morning we were chatting to others there who were staying and they stated they always stay there yearly but wont be back either as the place was so dirty and run down. We contacted the hotel Saturday and they assured us they were looking into it and they would get back to us on Monday as we left two days early and found other accomodation. It's Tuesday afternoon and we have not heard a peep from anyone. Absolutely appalling treatment!!!!!!!
- David (10/5): - Overall very good, only one negative, one inconsiderate guest letting their door slam
- Harpreet (2/5): - Dirty rooms
- Peter (10/5): - Cheap and cozy rooms, clean and no fuss accomodation.. nice place.
- Louis (8/5): - Great location. Tram down the road and it's a great pub. No issues.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - So convenient to trains and light rail
- Phuong Thao (8/5): - Friendly staff and quiet place
- Cheryl (8/5): - Great location
- Vince (6/5): - DATED POOR SERVICE
- Ethan (8/5): - Exactly what it says on the tin.
Tidy room. Bit of a spruce up in the bathrooms would be welcomed.
- Ray (10/5): - it was less than a 10 min walk to honeysuckle area with great restaurants and a quick tram ride to Civic theatre.
Rooms were clean, shower and toilets clean, it was a quiet night upstairs. very convenient. great value for money and breakfast too
- Bryony (10/5): - Honestly, a hidden gem - I booked last minute expecting it to be quite cheap and nasty but the room was lovely and clean, cute view, friendly service and great food.
Not far from beach, own parking lot for cars but parking down side road available for trailer set ups.
Definitely would stay here again as a solo traveller.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Friendly staff but very noisy; unable to sleep - Very welcoming and helpful staff so can’t complain there! Unfortunately (my mistake I guess) I didn’t clue on that the Hotel is above a pub - meaning I was unable to sleep for the night I was staying there. I’m also a light sleeper so probably didn’t help. Noisy pub until about 3am, then by the time that noise does the busy road noise started picking up. I paid extra for breakfast and there was just a loaf of white bread with option for spreads on toast, and basic tea and coffee facilities. I was hoping for at least some cereal options for breakfast too. Room was clean, communal bathroom.
