Guest Reviews
- Melissa (10/5): Beautiful newly renovated rooms - Beautiful newly renovated rooms with everything you need. A large communal area with kitchen and seating. Located on a hill on the edge of town so it was very quiet. Sadly I arrived at night so could not appreciate the property better!
- Fiona (8/5): Great - The location was peaceful
- Danielle (10/5): A walk down memory lane - The old world charm
- Lucille (8/5): -
- Jason (9/5): -
- Christine (9/5): A lovely rural stay at an historical site - great to be able to see the southern cross because of the clear night - The property was very unique - the staff were very accommodating Nothing
- Karli (10/5): Hermitage Hill is 100% worth going out of your way to visit. Do yourself a favour and go! - The whole experience. It was incredibly relaxing and my husband and I will definitely be returning.
- Andrew (10/5): would definitely return and recommend - quite with awesome views very friendly
- Kim (8/5): -
- Robert (8/5): - The feel of the place
Room size and fittout Air conditioner needs some more ummf to handle the daytime heat load.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Always a wonderful stay - I've stayed here a few times. I love that it's on the outskirts of town, it's very peaceful. The rooms are nicely decorated and the aircon works well. I appreciate that I can check in late (I'm talking 2am late) with the no-contact check in, so there's no rush. I like the allocated parking spots. Any time I've had problems the manager's helped me out quickly. The rooms are always clean. The bed is slightly too hard for my liking, and the curtains don't close all the way (I usually lean a chair up against the wall to keep them closed).
- Kate (8/5): - Beautiful setting
- Katherine (9/5): -
- Philip (8/5): A quiet location with comfortable rooms - Lovely quiet location and wonderful historic buildings. Room was comfortable with a beautiful view out from the veranda.
Enjoyed using the swimming pool and it is only a 10 - 15 minute walk into the main part of town. All good.
- Monika (10/5): - Peace and quiet, you gave us the perfect room, our own corner of the deck straight out of our room, love the view, the pool was very refreshing, great kitchen, and I just love the history, so happy you are restoring the old hospital, wishing you all the best in the future What is there not to like 😀
- Martyne (9/5): Very relaxing. - As it is a work in progress, I look forward to the completion of the owner’s vision.
It has an old world charm and is very peaceful. The refurbished rooms are lovely. While I loved the new rooms, and having stayed before in one of the older rooms (not yet refurbished) I feel that maybe going more modern takes away some of the heritage feel to the place.
- fengqin (10/5): 惊艳 - 一切
- Rocky (8/5): -
- Charity (10/5): Peaceful and amazing - Absolutely love the stunning older style vibe and feeling that comes with hermitage hill retreat have stayed a few times and always had the most comfortable get away
- Hamish (10/5): - Stayed in the Duke suite and we loved it. The room is really well decorated and comfortable. We enjoyed the pool as well. If I came back to Wellington I would stay here again.
- Ewan (10/5): -
- Andrew (7/5): -
- Phil (7/5): -
- Cooper (10/5): Would recommend for a neat little stay in Wellington - Met all of our expectations. Was happy with the service received.
- Fiona (10/5): - Location, history, facilities, staff Nothing
- Kumar (8/5): Nice place to stay during a brief stay - Contactless checking wasn't hard but there was some confusion over the allocated suite. The suite was spacious enough.
The restaurant was closed and we had to travel to the town centre to have dinner.
The check-out process was very easy. None
- Andrews (8/5): Excellent, yet again! Nice to see new improvements to the property!! -
- Sandra (10/5): Loved it and will stay there again if have the chance. Really looking forward to seeing what is achi - There was no breakfast but the kitchen facilities and common room are great.
Position in relation to highway is terrific so nice and quiet.
Aircon very welcome.
Hermitage was recommended by a friend and I wasn’t disappointed. Would like to see some information about the history of the property. I’m sure there is plenty to tell.
- Rachel (10/5): Safe, secure and wonderful charactor. - The upgrade to the suite in the bluestone cottage was a wonderful surprise. Stay here every time I come to collect grandchildren for annual holiday. Secure and safe location on top of the hill. Also love the fact that this is an old hospital very similar to one I started my nursing career in. The pool is exceptionally welcome on scorching hot day. All good - will be great when renovations finished and resteraunt reopens even if only for breakfast.
- Chris (10/5): -
- Sharon (10/5): A brief but lovely stay. - Location was just out of town in a beautiful peaceful setting, so ideal for us.
Beautiful gardens and ability to sit/eat on the verandah and watch the sun go down.
The room was lovely and equipped with all the amenities that we needed.
Would definitely stay again.
- Sean (8/5): An excellent place to stay in my old hometown - Not applicable When the renovation is complete
- Brett (9/5): - Staff were very accessable when required However allowed you to remain in privacy for the most part. Great views.
- Jean (5/5): The room only contained a double bed, and so I had to pay for 2 rooms - no breakfast It did not not have the facilities expected of a motel
- John Crawford7 (10/5): -
- John (9/5): - Had character and lots of room Nothing
- Kaye (9/5): - Lee was fantastic showing us around, and it's history!
Views were just gorgeous from verandahs.
Sunset from our rooms verandah was beautiful! Lack of seating in room, had to sit outside with mozzie aeroguard!
- Catherine (9/5): Unique place to stay in a heritage building set on a beautiful hill. - We loved staying here because of the warm welcome and unique setting. Enjoyed the pool and lovely views. There was a great kitchen area and lounge.
- Kay (10/5): Quiet location high on the hill - Very interesting historical site. Lee kindly showed us around the property ... Our own private tour.
- Georgette (4/5): - The pool was great. The scenary beautiful. When we booked the photo of the accomodation was a beautiful old building. That wasnt the case. We stayed in this now pictured building. Glad to see it has changed. It was very missleading.
The matress was old and lumpy and the frosted door to the balcony had no cover on it. So was woken up by a flood of light at 6.30am. After a shocking nights sleep. Paid the extra to get own bathroom. But still had to share the kitchen and loungeroom space. Was not worth the cost.
- Leontien (9/5): Heeelijk!
- Leane (10/5): Newly renovated room - Newly renovated, heated towel rails, good quality toilet paper, ceiling fan and air con, shutters, dressing area, quiet, secure, mini fridge and freezer and prep area with shelves in room as well as excellent shared facilities in Guest House, private entrance alternative to room via verandah, good access and parking, quick replies to correspondence and fast and easy check in and check out. Perhaps a coat hanger, but there are plenty of hooks and a small chair? But really, we lacked for nothing. We have stayed there many times, and it's great to see renovations under way. I look forward to visiting again.
- Sarah (9/5): Gothic adventure - Incredible atmosphere. Lee the owner gave us a tour of the property which we really enjoyed
- Tanya (9/5): Great value choice for family with dog stop over. Old style but very comfortable, clean and spacious. - Friendly, helpful phone call welcome immediately after booking. Huge family, dog friendly room. Old style set up but clean with so much space and high ceilings. Great value for money. Guest house would be fun for multiple families staying together using the huge common room and kitchen. Can’t wait to the restaurant after the renovations. You need to walk through the common room/ kitchen with dog and kids to reach the room. Not a big deal but something to note.
- Chenyu (10/5): - Spacious and quiet place to stay. Beautiful heritage buildings in a county setting
- Seers (8/5): -
- Craig (1/5): Poor - It's an attractive building from the outside. Tiny room. Rock hard bed. Poor level of maintenance in the room. Noise from nearby rooms travels easily. Toilet rolls locked in a canister! It's more like a boarding school corridor. Wifi knocked out a week ago - known about but not fixed and not communicated either. Tiny tv almost on the ceiling. T
- Johnstone (10/5): Beautiful - The friendly staff and the beautiful accommodation Nothing.
- Julie (10/5): -
- Karolynne (10/5): - Beautiful, tranquil location. Very clean. Spectacular sunset. I had a share bathroom which was exceptionally clean.
- Marlene (10/5): magnificent - The room was lovely, the surroundings were beautiful. The scenery was magnificent. The buildings were grand , I love old heritage buildings and this just magnificent. When full renovations are finished it will be so grand. Nothing not to like
- Sebastien (9/5): -
- Sandra (9/5): Superb -
- Katherine (10/5): Historical and beautiful property - Everything! Such a beautiful place and felt very welcomed Nothing
- Catriona (9/5): Many thanks for a great accommodation option on our way home, great value for money - Dog friendly, convenient, easy to check in, electric blanket, gorgeous grounds Share bathroom
- Karen (7/5): Travelling for business, I didn't have time to really enjoy the surroundings, which were beautiful. - The location was nice as it was up on the hill with a view, and out of the main town. This will be exceptional accommodation when the renovations have been completed.
- Steve (9/5): Great historic hotel - Clean comfortable rooms Nothing
- Paulette (8/5): Very good - Lovely old building and very comfortable room for one night.
- Rob (9/5): absolutely wonderful - room was fantastic and management was so helpful ran out of time to enjoy the property and learn about its history
- Joely (8/5): Good, clean, country location, ample parking for small truck - Private, (out of town) served purpose for one night, one person. self check-in. Needed dusting/cobwebs 🕷️
wasn’t very well lit for arriving in the dark.
Boiler or something similar that was quite noisy outside overnight.
- Tremonti (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacqueline (8/5): Beautiful historic masterpiece with wildlife and views - It’s beauty. It’s historical value. The thoughtful staff. The lovely newly renovated shared space complete with kitchenette. The views, the wildlife (kangaroos on the hill, bird life) Nothing
- Jasmine (9/5): Superb -
- Greg (7/5): Nice place …. Hope renovations make it a safer stay - Comfortable bed, hot shower and great sunset. Staff suggested options for dinner and breakfast were excellent.
Front verandah overlooking the town was a wonderful place to watch the sunset with a cup of tea. No lights on side verandah as you enter the building in the dark, no lights shining into the car park, extremely dangerous as uneven and relatively large holes at the end of verandah walk way to the car park ( wife fell into it and twisted her ankle),entry door into the building was not locked over night. In the room there was no power access for the jug, so it had to disconnect items behind the bed to boil the jug
- Leeanne (8/5): Friendly accommodating staff, helpful. Lovely location pleasing views. Great living facilities, -
- Stephan (7/5): Good -
- C (10/5): Exceptional -

- Junyu (8/5): Very good -
- Rupak (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julianne (9/5): Superb -
- Ashleigh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (3/5): Deceptive advertising. - Staff were helpful $200 room not in the beautiful building that's on par with a room at the pub for $140. Discovered next day insect bites all over my body. Ensure you read details of property carefully and book by phone to check location of room.
- David (9/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this historic building. - We did admire the enthusiasm of the owner and his plans for Hermitage Hill. It will be a fabulous venue when fully completed and when breakfast is available. -
- Kyna (10/5): Heritage, Views, Comfort & Spacious- Perfect for all Travelers - The Style, the View, comfortable bed & external door access from our room to outside verandah at Guesthouse was Perfect with new puppy with us. The shared Kitchen, Lounge & Bathroom facilities were large, well equipped with all needs & extremely clean. Be great for large family gatherings. View from Hilltop location over Wellington was beautiful & nighttime kangaroos. Nil Complaints 🥰
- David (9/5): Superb - The charm and the look over Wellington. The owner and staff were so welcoming and informative. Under construction, but looking forward to seeing how it turns out
- Vicky (8/5): Very good -
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (8/5): Very good - Under renovation so no breakfast but host suggestion for dinner and breakfast spot on
Good choice to go to for meals
The host was brilliant with all the help if needed Nothing we didn’t like
Everything was fantastic old place
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful old heritage building that stood out on the hill
- Matt (8/5): Very good - All the best to Lee in the renovation of this marvellous place
- Marilyn (6/5): It suited our purpose. However the website gives false advertising as to the accommodation. - No light at the code panel for auto gates as late arrivals prove difficult.
No Info on the historic property, we had to Google.
- Linda (10/5): Great - I had a very enjoyable stay, I was met by Lee he was very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable, beautiful clean linen comfy bed, amenities very clean. Would stay again.
Thanks
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful restored old property. Spacious common area and kitchen. Great features like fridge and tea and coffee facilities in our room. Our room had a shared bathroom, which was clean and spacious. Host recommended the Lion of Waterloo for dinner. A very good call. Enjoyed our stay. The only issue was that the security gate would not open automatically for our motorcycle. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and expect we will be back.
- Pauline (8/5): Would recommend or return - Clean and comfortable, quiet. Suited our needs Nothing exceptionally negative to report
- Simone (5/5): I needed to stay near Mudgee but there was nothing available. - The bed was uncomfortable.
There was a loud reverberating noise during the night that woke me up.
- Skye (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (8/5): Very good - The spacious room, the very comfortable bed, the separate bathmats for each guest. Sharing a hallway with others...especially young children running up and down it.
