- mariasV92CG (6/5): Average motel unit - We stayed one night, the receptionist was lovely very helpful showed us how to use the pool. The units are clean and tidy and have everything you need. Sorry but the lazy boy chair does need to go. Beds were comfortable, sheets nice and crisp. Nice and warm good heating. The views are lovely of the lake and the outside furniture is good.

- Christopher (6/5): very ordinary - A cold, noisy, pokey room with very basic facilities. Not good value. And finding lipstick on the glassware doesn’t enhance the look.
- Cris101 (6/5): Very basic - It might have been because we were just a couple wanting to stay a single night, but despite having booked in advance we were given what appeared to be the pokiest unit in the whole place. It was in a corner that got no sunlight, right next to a passageway frequented by noisy guests, an outside light on all night and it had a nasty smell. Even worse, the glasses and cups had lipstick smears on them. The facilities were the most basic and no way was it worth $100 a night!

- Ngahinahonana (2/5): Disgusting - I booked than canceled 1 week before checking in but made a deposit asked for the deposit back and they decided not to reply to me for my refund. I gave notice well before 48hrs so why dont you give the refund back. Toke a very good few months for a reply from them too
- anth0ny1946 (8/5): Mid Journey break - Booked a lake view studio in need of decoration otherwise adequate we planned on staying two nights but due to the country going into lockdown we left early in our haste we forgot our clothes in the wardrobe I called the motel and they organised having them couriered back to us hopefully after the covid-19 is over we can return for a few day as we found its in a great location as you have a good walk alongside the lake to all the restuarants and bars.
- RayAPorter (4/5): Oh dear. - The place obviously was built in the 70s, and had not received any upgrades or maintenance since the day it was built. The room we were in certainly required a lot of TLC. The place was full, I think we got the last room, the whole town was full, so we were lucky to get somewhere. Was clean and tidy, just old and worn, a revamp is well overdue.

- Swale64 (4/5): This was not what we expected - We booked here based on very positive reviews in both tripadvisor and booking,com. We chose the 'luxury studio with lake view and private thermal pool.' The room might have qualified for the luxury title 50 years ago but not now. The buildings are cheap and tired as appears to be the management. We were left in no doubt that if we used any crockery or utensils in the room then the maid would not clear them up. This even applied to water glasses in the bathroom!! Talking of which, this room is an amalgam of toilet, washbasin and an open shower with an inadequate curtain. Therefore when the shower is used, the polished tiled floor does not drain properly and remains lethal unless the tiny bathmat is usd to mop up. Furnishings and fittings were drab, not particularly clean and in need of considerable attention. Breakfast of poached eggs on toast was delivered promptly and safisfied our requirements but coffe was self help and do the washing up!! The lake view is certainly there but it is across over 150 metres of grassland, the main road and the beach so the claim is somewhat disingenuous. I fear that this establishment is well past its sell by date and would probably benefit from being dismantled and rebuilt to modern standards or project itself at the backpacker market. Taupo appears to have many other much better hotels/motels.

I will just say it was extremely hot outside and inside. No AC., poor air circulation, windows only open a few inches, overhang and adjacent building block breeze,fans did not help. We stayed only 1 night. out of 4 no refund on prepaid booking.

- chiplintraveler (2/5): New Owners Made our Holiday very sad never going back! - Nothing they did was right, We are a big booking, Taking 5 rooms with friends for the summer concert we been going for the last 5 years. Old owners were lovely and helpful in every way, these new ones could not do anything right or help... Booking was completely messed up even when we booked a year in advance, we were all in different ends of motel not how we booked it, they said we could have a pet and we had confirmed to take our dog on e-mail then when there told no pets! after I said we had confirmed on e-mail she said O.K But then explaining we didn't want cleaning cause dog might get out took them 30 mins to understand even that. We had things in room that were broken , like a toaster and they weren't in a hurry to sort. There was also a price difference between rooms for us all and when asked why we got the run around of so many different reasons I cant even keep up with the lies. We are also still waiting for a picture of all the dog hair my toy poodle!!! left behind everywhere and a wee on the bed.......... waiting two weeks now for it even after 3 phone calls ... and money taken off credit card for this, and I checked the room before we left if my dog had I would have told them ... Never going back this was my worst stay I've ever had in my life in New Zealand.

Badly ripped lazy boy chair in the room made it look shabby. Remote for tv didnt work either . Beds were comfortable and good shower pressure is about all we have to say was good about this place. Rooms and carpet need upgrading . There are far more superior places to stay in Taupo for less money . Were also told we could lock up our bikes but on arrival were told to lock them up to pole outside the unit . Wont be staying here again !

- Verified traveler (4/5): - We booked a studio room which had no air conditioning, it was approximately 32degrees in our room, 100% uncomfortable, considering all other rooms had air conditioning, when asked to be moved to a room with air conditioning this was not an option considering there were rooms available, instead we got a fan, two bottles of water and a bowl of ice. Totally unacceptable temperature to be expected to stay and sleep in.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Unit was clean but very dated. We had unit 26. the exterior block wall gets a lot of sun in the day and then radiates heat into the unit until about 5am. The heat pump is completely inadequate. 2 nights of very poor sleep. Lady at the desk wasn't interested when I told her about the heat problem , she just denied this being an issue.

There was a fan provided which helped with air circulation but will be of limited use as temperatures increase over summer. A box of tissues would have been a useful addition to the supplies in the room, staff need to check that all other supplies are fully topped up, not just the bare minimum provided (eg toilet paper). Some steps have been take to avoid waste and excess plastic, the small glass milk bottles which are then reused was a good way of providing fresh milk rather than UHT.

- Sharon (6/5): Our stay - Comfortable unit. The right size for 2 adults, 4 children. Clean as is possible. The unit itself is tired looking. Chipped furniture, worn , hole in bench top.Large tear in lounge seat. Old style oven. Not clean. Got burnt both arms on oven door. Didnt use private spa. Uninviting area, looks unused and unclean. I wouldnt choose this motel again. The location is opposite Lake Taupo. Majority of the units have no lake views at all, just the backside of the front units. Our unit was at the back so you had no lake views whatsoever. I do prefer the lake view so book a front unit. Was it value for money...probably not. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Took a while to register. Couldnt locate booking initally...on the whole ignoring the blemishes, our stay was confortable.

- mairacristianec (8/5): Great service - We stayed for a night and had a good time there. The bed was very comfortable and the room had an equipped with a kitchenette. Staff were really friendly and we could use the private pool at an arranged time for 1 hour (you pay extra for that).

The rooms are joined by a corridor at the back and at times we could hear talking in the adjacent units. Off the road though, so traffic noise is not an issue. Nice and clean.
- Mum_older-adventurer (4/5): Mid week escape - Allocated Rm12 (alias the dungeon). Room didn’t live up to expectations from website photos. Tiny room round rear of complex facing rear car park. Miss matched old dilapidated outdoor chairs. Paint in need of some TLC on inside.. Ancient microwave timer dodgy.. Only 1 plug for our super small kitchenette so had to juggle toaster, jug and microwave. On 2nd day, staff didn’t replace milk, biscuits or dishwashing liquid ... or dishcloth (that must have been oversight?).. so couldn’t wash up dishes. Room was mostly clean (under beds was another story)😮.. Linen was immaculate. Best part about this motel was close to the cycle trail.. Receptionist was lovely and helpful too. Sorry I don’t have more good things to say..
- Heather (10/5): Restful Lake View - Handy location for our needs. Happy to have a view of the Lake yet with the property being set well back from the road we weren't bothered by traffic noise like a lot of other Lakefront properties are. Older property and a little tired decor wise but perfectly clean and had everything we needed. A bonus was the mineral bath. Friendly lady welcomed us and came down to explain how the bath works. Plenty of outdoor furniture to sit outside the unit and enjoy the Lake View. Outdoor heated pool available and I noticed a function room like a camp kitchen with its own outdoor seating area which would be great for family bookings. Very happy with our stay and would come again.

The hotel is clean and provides u great hospitality.The hotel staff is very helpful and will guide u throughout your stay.The staffs were very professional. The hotel provides u almost every facilities from good rooms with private mineral spa and also helps to book activities nearby. The hotel has a big lawn in front where kids can play. Overall experience was awesome.I'll recommend dis hotel to every couple and families:). You wont regret,just be there:)
- M1647AWelizabethm (6/5): Looks can be deceiving - Sure we took the overnight special and from the road the motel looked great, situated directly over the road from the lake. The room however left a lot to be desired. The bed, although large and clean was very low to the ground and very uncomfortable. The room was cramped with heaters, fans and book racks. No air con. There was only one face washer, and no extra blankets or pillows. The motel advertises free hot spa, but these are individual baths, which can be filled with thermal water but cost an additional $20.

- 707ChrisG (6/5): Late night - Nice place we got there after the reception closed but had organized a late check in which was greatly appreciated. Room was easy to find room was clean. We have stayed here before an would again. Only things that disappointed was no hand wash in the bathroom as the container was empty and only one flannel allocated to the room more available on request but no good if reception is closed.the walls were rather thin and you could here the people in the next room.
- Mctravels4 (4/5): Disappointing - This motel serves a function for an overnight stay, unfortunately, we booked three nights, to use Taupō as a base. Everything about our room was warn and not in good condition. We had seen photos and expected the rooms to be dated, but assumed everything would be in good repair. We were wrong. I think the biggest downfall overall was the cleanliness or lack of it. There were marks all over the walls and even a blood smear outside the mineral pool off the main bedroom. No one wants to see gross marks on the back of a toilet door or light switch or find a mouldy container of apple juice under the bed from a previous occupant. Rooms are serviced daily, this does not include replenishing milk for tea and coffee, nor does it include the plunger coffee which was provided day one. This is a fee of $2 over sachet to replace. Regular coffee also not replaced. To be honest though aside from tea we wouldn’t have touched either of the coffees again as they were terrible. Room servicing does not include washing your breakfast bowls and cups, even though we had no plug to fill the sink. We had to request a tea towel and a plug that fit the sink. We were travelling with two children. They’re not super young but we found we had to remind them constantly not to go up the stairs to their rooms and to speak quietly as the WALLS ARE PAPER THIN. Like you might as well just have a curtain. This just makes a holiday stressful. You shouldn’t be able to hear your next door room when they are talking normally. Every cough, every step. The room layout was fine but all the furniture was either broken, split, or in the cases of the couches, filthy. Ended up removing the fire alarm as you couldn’t make toast without triggering it. The queen bed was ok, one pillow each. The children said their beds were fine. Housekeeping made their beds sometimes. Or they would make one but not the other, really weird. Overall, we found the staff to be pleasant , despite them saying we only provide milk on day one normally. For the cost I find this bizarre especially as they offer tea and coffee. They’re certainly not investing that money on repairs or cleaning. Don’t go expecting to be able to self cater beyond a toaster, jug and microwave. Overnight, this place would be ok, we made a mistake by booking three. Not the type of place you come back to after a day of adventuring to relax at. Our first and last nights were better when we weren’t sharing walls with neighbours. Our room also filled with the neighbours cigarette smoke every two hours when they had a cigarette, not the properties fault, but maybe designated smoking areas would be useful.
- procycles (2/5): LABOUR WEEKEND 2019 BIG MISTAKE - CHELMSWOOD MOTEL TAUPO - DIRTIEST MOTEL WE HAVE STAYED IN - My Sister and I had already stayed a couple of nights in Taupo at The Village Resort - which was spacious, clean, very well priced and an awesome motel. We decided we would stay another night in Taupo and being labour weekend just about everything was booked. Only one available was the Chelmswood Motel $450 per nigh and the Hilton $1395 per night. Unbelievable how they put prices up when accommodation is in demand. But that is beside the point. We choose to pay this price, we didn't expect the Hilton, but we expected something a bit better than what we got. Room looked like it had never been cleaned. - Food all over alarm clock, doors, plates, cups, glasses didn't look clean. Net curtains failing down, Chair in lounge stunk. TV didn't work. Private Thermal Mineral Pool had a lot of rust on rocks, when we filled it colour of water was yellowish with a thick slime on it. Toilet roll had about 20 sheets left on it and was folded to look new. Stairs to beds upstairs where narrow and very rickety. You wouldn't want to be on the larger size, trying to get up stairs. Was meant to be soundproof, but wasn't. Family room for 5 people. We were supplied 1 facecloth. The place is old and tired, but that is no excuse for dirtiness. One thing I will say that the linen on the beds looked clean, which was good. Everything else you didn't want to touch, as it was just filthy.

Reception not attended to check out, just basket on counter for keys. Room very small facing south, no view. Comfy bed, warm room. TV with wide black line through middle of the screen. Tea bags fell apart, wifi so weak we could not open attachments just kept cycling Very disappointed

- Joy (8/5): I would return - Great location. Loved the view. The unit was warm and comfortable. The heated swimming pool was ideal to keep my grandchildren occupied for a while. The cooked breakfast was very nice. I would return and recommend. A few things missing that I'm used to in motels - box of tissues, shower cap and toiletries consisted of soap pumps at handbasin and in the shower.

Our fly spray was empty and that night there were lots of fruit flies and flies.
