• Mia (8/5): Excellent clean and tidy affordable accommodation - We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The rooms are above the pub but it wasn't too noisy. The facilities were clean and tidy. Great quiet location close to town centre. The pub was popular with nice patrons, their restaurant serve excellent pizzas. Affordable pricing. Not a big thing but would have loved a second flatter pillow.

I expected noise Sat night but it was also really noisy Sunday night (people laughing really loudly in courtyard after midnight). Monday night was a bit quieter after about 10.30. I didnt imagine weeknights would be so noisy.

• Roger (8/5): Friendly and chilled it’s a clean and straight forward winner - Whilst it’s basic because it’s shared, it is clean, friendly, and very chilled. Beds are comfy. The Ori is legendary in so many ways and to stay upstairs from such a great pub in such a great area is quite a positive experience. I wish they did breakfast as the coffee shop over the road was closed when I stayed.

• Chris (8/5): Great option in Newy - Staff are superb, all of them. Have stayed here a few times now because it's a good spot and can eat/drink downstairs or go nearby to other cafes/restaurants. Showers and toilets are clean and in good condition. Friendly environment and seems to attract friendly guests. Trivia night etc. are fun and it's one of those places where it's easy to strike up a conversation if you want to have a chat with people. It's hot in summer as there is no aircon, just a fan.
• Ciro Robson (10/5): - The location is excellent, with public transport very close by, market and many shops very close by as well. On Saturdays there is a bit of noise in the bar under the hotel, but after 10 p.m. everything is quiet.

• Karleen (10/5): Excellent, would definitely stay again. - Great find in a nice area of Newcastle. I had a double room with shared bathroom above the pub and was very happy with it. The room had a comfy bed with decent pillows, TV, sofa and drawers. Bathrooms were kept in good condition and toiletries were provided. Also there was a small kitchenette with fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster so I could make my own breakfast and reheat meals. The pub itself was nice and had a different drink special every day, live music on weekends and the pizzas on offer were also very good! A couple of minutes walk to Darby Street with restaurants, shops and cafes, few more minutes to Civic Park and the tram stop to every where else. Would definitely stay here again!

• Tash (9/5): Would recommend - Great location, within walking distance to the beach, parks, CBD, and Darby street for cafes. Wonderful staff (big shout out to Kiel) and helped out in anyway they could, they were super accommodating! Rooms were cool, aircon was fitted in our room and is currently being fitted in other rooms. The place was cleaned daily, communal kitchen and bathrooms were clean and always available to use. Kitchen had everything you’d need with crockery, cutlery, microwave, electric cooktop/frying pan and air fryer. Great pizzas downstairs too! Read other reviews about noise over weekend with live music but it didn’t bother us much in the rooms, and can always go and join in the fun! As with most communal fridges, some of our food went missing, this is not on the hotel staff but on other guests.

Clean air condition rooms, bathrooms, & kitchen with complimentary coffee & tea, & their pizzas are yum! The Oriental Hotel is now my place to stay when in Newcastle. A big thank you to Kyle who when out of his way to be accommodating. Absolutely nothing.

• Mark Kolff (8/5): Highly recommended pub stay - A great pub with awesome facilities, would recommend to others. Loved the live music. Rooms would have benefited hugely with air-conditioning as we came from New Zealand and don't do 30 degrees plus very well. Band could have had their overall sound quite a bit lower and we would have stayed longer listening in the bar.

Air conditioning would have been a good addition. the kitchen was missing a strainer/colander But other than that it was great!
• Siu-San (5/5): Enjoyed the night walk to the harbour as the accommodation was so conveniently located - Very friendly and helpful staff. Location was convenient. The pizza shop within the Hotel made great pizzas. No air-conditioning and it was a stifling hot night, so not very comfortable at all. The room was small. Also didn't like the shared bathroom and toilets as well as a shared kitchen although didn't mind it as much because it was clean and roomy.
• David (8/5): Handy Place to Stay - Good place to stay if your not looking for something fancy. Rooms were basic but comfortable, however rather warm and really do require a air-conditioning unit rather than just a ceiling fan which did not provide much comfort. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Meals consisted of pizza only which were nice - if they could incorporate something more it would be great. Having said that, I would recommend staying there. Room was quite hot and really do require air conditioning.

• Mckenna (9/5): The perfect spot for a quick getaway! Vibrant location, clean accommodations, and excellent pizza - Convenient, clean, fun, and friendly! Only drawback was that the room did not cool off very much overnight despite the fan and open window. Totally comfortable, but a few tower fans could go a long way.
• Kevin (6/5): - The property is in a central location. The staff were all very nice, friendly and helpful. There is a kitchen to use with a fridge and microwave. The pizza from the onsite restaurant was really nice. The same complaint as everyone else - there is no air conditioning in the rooms and the fan does nothing to help. It is strange that the pub and pizzeria downstairs has air con, but not upstairs in the accommodation. If it did I would rate the property an 8, but since it was so hot in the room I could not sleep well, which is why I gave a lower rating.

• Lefkaditis (8/5): Lovely place - Room and shared toilets and showers were clean throughout the stay. No aircon in the room. It was very hot and the ceiling fan did not make any difference. An aircon in the room would really make a substantial difference for better reviews and even if they charge a slightly higher price per night it would significantly increase the comfort of sleep during the night.

• Katarina (7/5): good location, nice room and good value for money! just be aware you are above a pub so can be loud at night, and warm i - comfy bed, spacious room, bathrooms were always clean and had free soap/shampoo/conditioner. good location, close to everything you need and want! the whole upstairs was super hot in the hot weather, you felt it hit you the second you came upstairs. we had a ceiling fan in the room but it didn’t do much to help. there was also no cooking facilities apart from a microwave.
• Jay (9/5): Great location, very nice staff and a local bar in a posh part of town - The location was fantastic, walking distance to the theatre which I was most interested in. I could have caught the light rail from there, or bus. Shops were close by and of course bars and food places. Staff were very lovely and attentive and the pizza restaurant smelled so good, but unfortunately I was in a rush and couldn't sample the wares. The front bar was cute, plenty of outdoor seating and a nice little restaurant attached. No air conditioning iin the room, but I put the ceiling fan to good use. Otherwise I couldn't fault it really. The showers were clean and well stocked, the kitchen was tidy and had to essentials. The water pipes were a bit loud when someone came home at 2am and decided to have a shower, but it's an old place, I wasn't upset and went back to sleep once she finished her early morning shower.
