Guest Reviews
- Heather (8/5): - Cosy cottage good bed and comfortable. No Wifi.
- Darcy (10/5): -
- nicola (2/5): Nothing like how booking.com describe this property. Don’t stay here you will be very disappointed. - Shower This property IS NOT part of the estate. Neither is it on warburton road. Neither is this phone number contactable after hours. What a nightmare!
- Miles (7/5): Comfortable and a great size. We enjoyed our stay. - Spacious and warm. Needs a bit of maintenance. Toilet door was broken, and a few lights need replacement.
- Luis (8/5): - Very nice location. Comfortable beds. Breakfast could be a lot better.
- Simone (5/5): - We have previously stayed in a Vineyard Villa which was lovely. The Merlot Cottage we stayed in on our recent visit was very run down & had a very overpowering unpleasant smell about it.
- Malcolm (9/5): - Wonderful 2 bedroom villa overlooking the vineyard. Super comfy beds both bedrooms with ensuites, perfect for 2 couples travelling together.
- catia (1/5): - Nothing Everything
- Karen (6/5): -
- Julie (5/5): -
- Felicity (9/5): Fantastic romantic getaway - Great views beautiful cabin very clean and comfortable Maybe the couch was a bit uncomfortable
- Yaeko (8/5): Was relaxed, enjoyed with friends. - The most is the jet bath.
All over very nice property, quiet location and great view. If I have to say something,
Furniture in the living room are quite old but actually still fine to use them.
- Kazunori (9/5): - Great value, roomy, very comfortable
- Frank (5/5): Relaxing in a world of charm from years gone by. - Location Heritage and old furniture and fitty
- Peter (4/5): Love the Location but disappointed - Great location for us, as it was close to family for us to visit. We have stayed here before and none of the simple maintenance problems have been fixed in the past year. Curtains that do not close correctly, globes blown, so whole apartment was very dim, making it very hard to read for someone like me who needs glasses. The TV was intermittent, constantly going blank or freezing.
- Elizabeth (7/5): Wear and tear starting to show - This property is in a beautiful location. We looked forward to doing some wine tasting and then checking into our room. Our plan was then to go and have dinner in the restaurant. Disappointed when we turned up to check in, to find the cellar door and reception. Somebody heard us rattling on the door and a man with an apron on came out to tell us he would get our key for us. We asked about the cellar Door. He said they were already finished. The website says they’re open until 5 PM. We went and checked into our accommodation, which are very cute units. On the surface, they look amazing. But the furniture is very tired with the leather on the dining chairs and the couches or peeling off. Every bit of cutlery and glassware was dirty. We needed to wash everything we used first. This was actually hard as they did not supply us a tea towel. Everything else was supplied. There was also a great selection for breakfast. We were able to cook up a storm. Lovely fresh eggs and bacon and tomato, etc. The bed was very comfortable and the towels and linen were very clean. We needed to pull out the bedside tables to plug in our devices. There was so much dust behind them. It was disappointing. Everything you could want is in these rooms, it is just the cleanliness that has let it down. It also needs new furniture as you sink into the middle of the couch and when sitting on a dining chair, there is no padding left. The restaurant was great and the food was amazing. There was one lady that was serving clearing and taking orders. We believe there was only one person in the kitchen. It was not busy at all, which was very surprising as it is a lovely looking restaurant. The menu was different to online, which was disappointing. They have cut it down quite a bit, which is fair enough. It was just disappointing that one of the dishes we wanted was cooked very differently what was on the website so we didn’t order that. The website definitely needs to be updated with current times for cellar Door. We chose this accommodation because it was a winery and felt that we could try some wines in the afternoon so we know what to order at dinner time.
- Jim (9/5): Herb and Chilli Festival Weekend - It was our fourth visit and as usual the rooms were clean and comfortable and breakfast supplies tasty. Disappointed that the restaurant was closed for Saturday night. It's a pity that we were not informed beforehand.
A hasty booking at Rowano's, just a couple of minutes up the road at Seville, ensured we were well looked after
- John (8/5): Worth the money. - Was very clean. Breakfast included. Minor issues, but nothing worth mentioning.
- Diana (9/5): - Location was great and also the breakfast supplied.
- Robert (6/5): - Very good value for money and in a great location.
The Villa was also very spacious. The Villa was a bit dated and in need of updating. Mould on the ceiling of the bathroom and TV only received ABC, SBS and Ch 9.
Also road noise from the Warburton Hwy.
- Avery Meneses (10/5): Great place to stay for a weekend getaway! - We chose this place as it was very close to our wedding reception venue. It was very convenient even though we used the facilities only for a few hours. The check in process was very easy and friendly. Staff are great, made us feel very welcome. It is clean and it was really big room that had breakfast where we cooked our own. The bathroom and tub was great. Very big and comfy and the bed was nice and soft. If I am in the area again, I would not hesitate to come back here again. Nothing really to say!
- Peter (5/5): Disappointing due to lack of simple maintenace. - Location was good for us as close to family. We have stayed there before and I pointed out various items of maintenance that need doing, all of which have not been rectified or have got worse. Such as lighting, blown globes, taps in showers that don't allow water to flow correctly and make it difficult to get the temperature, so you do not burn yourself.
- Jie (10/5): - This hotel is great. There are 2 big rooms with attached restroom. Nice view on the deck, my family had a wonderful dinner there.
- Rob (5/5): needs some tender loving care to bring up to scratch - Good size good location and comfortable
More than happy with the food left in the fridge for our breakfast There was bad mould above the spa in the bathroom, the sliding doors were jamming badly
- Janine (8/5): -
- Tara (7/5): Quiet country style house, nice wines but disappointing dinner - Waitress was lovely, wine tasting was great. Grounds were pretty. Cobwebs in corners. Dinner was disappointing.
- Crystal-Jade (10/5): Nice, quiet & relaxing - Private, close to the event we needed it for. N/A
- Michael (7/5): - Rooms were spacious. Restaurant was great Arrived at property 2.45pm to find room not ready. Was shouted a drink whilst waiting. At 4.15 went to room, still not ready. Finally got in to find minimal breakfast provisions. 1 cracked egg, tinned fruit and cereal was supplied for 3 night stay. No wi-fi password supplied. Asked staff if could have late check out and no one could answer us. TV needs to be updated to receive all channels.
- Camilla (9/5): -
- Matt (8/5): -
- Mahesh (10/5): -
- Deborah (8/5): Beautiful venue wish we’d had more time to enjoy it but a family event took up most of our time . - Beautiful venue with lovely garden One of the eggs for breakfast was frozen so unable to be used. Also breakfast needed to be cooked by guest.
Not really enough glades, crockery and cutlery for the 4 guests staying .
- Jiajie (9/5): - Good view, very clean
- Lauren (7/5): A bit overpriced but a pleasant stay - Lovely picturesque grounds, private and modern. Included breakfast was basic “cook yourself” style with very cheap brands provided of eggs, bacon, fruit cups, milk etc. Kitchen was ok, but lacked a spatula to help make the eggs.
Bedrooms were clean and beds were comfortable but lacked of aircon in the bedrooms and windows all along one side of one of them made them very hot and the fan really didn’t do anything. So I wouldn’t recommend them for summer.
- Matthew (6/5): Need maintance but no show stoppers - Nice little cottage close to local attractions Needs TLC, lots of globes out, toilets don't flush properly, some used candles laying about, clock had stopped, rangehood falling off, reception on TV terrible, wifi not really usable (worse than 4G on our phones)
- Alicia (5/5): Not a nice place for romantic get away. Good for an overnight stay if you were passing through. - The room was a nice size and it was warm The place looks nothing like the pictures.
Yellow stains on bedding
At least a half hour drive for food as restaurant was closed despite making a booking
- Annette (8/5): Excellent location and very good stay - Breakfast was great. Location was perfect Couches were past their use by date. Very saggy and uncomfortable to use
- Jessica (10/5): Relaxing experience that helped me recharge - Breakfast provisions were amazing even though we didn't use them. Accommodation was spacious and private. View looked out over the lake with ducks occupying it.
- Tom (7/5): Great value stay as a base to explore the Yarra valley. - Good location, good pricing, spacious for a 1 bedroom cabin Mattresses felt dated and were over firm. on checkin, facilities were very cold and took a number of hours to warm up.
- Sue (8/5): Beautiful location, comfortable accommodation with great shower, delicious food & cocktails - The position & the size of the accommodation. Absolute peaceful silence in the room. Best steak I’ve had in a long time & make great Cosmopolitan’s too. Highly recommend both staying & eating. The lavender farm down the road is a great visit too. Needs a bit of updating, paint touch up’s to window sills & door jambs, replace or reupholster the leather lounges & chairs. Put some bird spikes on the top of the patio privacy screen where the birds are pooping. Need to cobweb the inside ceilings.
- Marie (9/5): Such a relaxed cosy stay - Old country feel. Surrounded by nature . Staff were always a pleasure to talk to.
- Amanda (8/5): Lovely venue great for value and comfort - Amazing property the lady I checked in with was lovely,
The room was great and the view was beautiful. The only down fall was that fly screen doors didn’t open or close properly you basically had to lift them up to get in and out and this was the same with the bathroom doors I thought I was stuck for a minute but finally managed to open the door
- Regina (8/5): -
- Paul (5/5): Nice Place, needs a little attention. - The room presented very well and was clean, neat, and tidy.
The included breakfast was fantastic and had a great selection of cerals, bacon, eggs, toast, and even spreads.
The beds were comfy, and the spa was a big hit.
All the linen was nice and fresh and soft. The veiw from our balcony was amazing overlooking the orchard, and the sound from the main road was very minimal.
It's a great central location and was only a short trip to Healesville and Puffing Billy. Also, Seville (closest town) has plenty of shops, food and an awesome water park. Unfortunately, upon arrival, our master suite stank of cigarettes, to the credit of the owners, they came later with some room fragrance, and after airing the room all afternoon, it rid most of it.
There were a few small details that needed attention like there was no information book that we could find, our ensuite door didn't close properly because it had come off the rail, when I tried to make breakfast the handle on the fry pan fell off (I had a screwdriver and reattached it) some of the towels were well worn with holes.
The lack of tech with no wifi and the tv not being able to be cast to made it tricky keeping the kids entertained while it was hot outside. Something we missed was that there is not much for the kids to do either.
We went on a week of very high temperatures and due to the main bedroom facing the afternoon sun the room became really hot, there is heating in the rooms but no AC to get rid of the heat, making the overnight sleep a little uncomfortable.
- Jessica (6/5): Nice building, needs better care - The villa itself is nice. The fridge was stocked with bacon, eggs, bread, butter, jams, fruits and juices which we appreciated. Air con coped well even on a 40•C day. No one at Reception (closed & locked) at check in time, had to call the phone number to reach a solution. Distasteful decorations and outdated decor which was a shame given the nice villa. Cobwebs and spiders. Bacon and eggs provided, but amounts seemed to be random (lots of bacon but only 6 eggs, for 3 guests for 3 nights), and only 1 small fry pan! No olive oil. 3 guests but only 2 face washers. Several light bulbs needed replacing including the stove.
- Linda (8/5): - Friendly greeting from staff; lovely, well furnished, roomy character cottage with basic breakfast supplies; comfortable and clean on the inside of house; free parking Many light globes need replacing, net curtains need replacing, lots of spider webs on outside around walls and windows of house, no coffee, no remote for TV in kitchen area
- Jess And Shai (7/5): Lovely little cottage but don’t expect 5 star room service. Would probably stay there again though. - Small comfortable cottage. Very cute and easy to sustain yourself in. Breakfast is provided but you cook it yourself - but no butter or oil to cook with.
Bedroom needs a fan of some sort. Just got too hot. The shower was extremely slippery, and not enough shampoo ect for two people let alone two nights.
- Mel (8/5): -
- Fiorella (9/5): -
- Kerryn (7/5): Nice overall but house needs maintenance - Good location House we rented was very dusty needed to be aired out before we got there but it was a nice old house needs some me tlc
- Quinn Sofea (8/5): We had a lovely stay and really enjoyed this property. From the outside, it already feels like a cha - Yes, breakfast was lovely but we didn’t eat pork. I wish they got options either chicken or bacon (religious) or vegan opt. I think the furniture, like dining chairs and sofas. Outdoor needs more maintenance. There’s such a huge potential for commercialise and so much to offer.
- Kathleen (7/5): All in all, would recommend and stay again. - Overall, the place was spacious and lovely with a really nice ambience. The internet wasn't working the whole time we were there. Also, there were issues with the shower pressure and inconsistent temperatures.
- Yucong (8/5): -
- Kim (6/5): - Bsoacious accommodation, just needs some TLC as very tired.
- Rod (5/5): - Location Curtains hanging off tracks.
Tv reception very poor
- Yan (8/5): Great place to stay, second time customers - It's quite cost efficient for the holiday season. And rooms are nice and big with great views.
The breakfast size is decent 😀 The lounge floor is not as neat as the quiet season.
- Martin (7/5): Adequate accommodation on the outskirts of Yarra valley - It was a large space, self contained everything we needed Breakfast was included which was as advertised but some of the items were already opened and half used (apple juice) so threw them away. Some of the furniture was a little old. We’re only advised on check-in that the internet had been out for the past week and they weren’t expecting it to be fixed until new year.
- Arezoo (7/5): -
- Lindsay (7/5): Ok house for a short stay - We stayed in the big Wallace 3 bedroom house for two nights. It was an older style place and big so we had lots of room. Nice comfortable beds and a very beautiful bathtub. Place was clean and breakfast supplies were provided which was ok for one night but not enough for two nights so you had to ask for more.
Parking available and the restaurant on-site served delicious food for dinner. Friendly staff at the restaurant.
There were other smaller and modern units (1 and 2 bedrooms) on the property that may be better suited for couples or small family/groups.
Manager/owner granted our request for a late check out which was good and appreciated.
We didn’t try the cellar door so can’t comment but it didn’t look like anyone really went there for the Cellar Door anyway. Being older, some of the furnishings in the house weren’t great. It was dark and probably would be worse in Winter, I guess the trees surrounding it covered most of the natural light. Didn’t help that some of the light bulbs were missing and not replaced. The owner/manager said he’ll replace it the next day (after we check out, which doesn’t help us staying there).
A remote control for the bigger TV was missing but owner said they will replace it with a universal remote soon.
Also one the kitchen cupboard door was missing a screw so it couldn’t open or close properly.
Another thing is that it’s hard to get any assistance, you call the mobile number and you get a voicemail always. We were locked out one night around 6pm, as the laundry door couldn’t open properly (you use the laundry door and not main door to get into the house), as my friend locked it from the inside instead of using the key when we left (do not do this as the key can’t open it from outside) and I kept on calling the manager and we even went around to the main area to look for him in the house (think he says onsite?). In the end, luckily found a window that wasn’t locked and I had to climb through the window to get in and open the laundry door from the inside. It was a very stressful situation and not great that there’s no assistance when called nor was there any call back even after you leave a voicemail.
- Mahesh (10/5): - Worth for money
- Richgab (10/5): -
- Mahesh (10/5): - Very nice place. ❤️❤️
- John (8/5): -
- Leanne (10/5): - Such a beautiful place . I didn't want to leave
- Jaime (10/5): - This was our second time here & we found both times excellent value for money. A beautiful peaceful little getaway. The food at the restaurant was delicious. We will definitely be returning
- Jessica (10/5): - Comfy bed, big bathroom
- Pele (10/5): - Brilliantly interesting decor, and very comfortable. The breakfast provided was especially welcome. Beds were very comfortable, the kitchen was well-stocked, and the showers were hot.
- Tom (8/5): -
- Kim (5/5): - Location Unfortunately felt room was run down and musty smelling, no wifi, breakfast was included in price, we stayed 3 nights and only had breakfast provided for one night.
Needs some TLC.
- Holly (8/5): -
- Mills (10/5): - Very good all over . Nothing
- Naida (9/5): It was very unique - Loved the cabin and the breakfast and all the lovely furnishings Restaurant not open
- Jill (9/5): -
- Amanda (5/5): Spacious and adequate, needs updating. - Large rooms, good heating, good bed, very quiet location but shops and facilities not far away (by car). Large bathroom with lots of places to put things, and a large shower. I requested lite milk with the breakfast provisions and it was provided. Photos of this property (Merlot cottage) on the website must be at least 20 years old. Very old and tired and in need of maintenance and refurbishing. Curtains hanging off and hard to move, crockery and cutlery needs replacing, the frypan and utensils were greasy and dirty, one worn sponge/scourer and a dirty dish brush inadequate for cleaning.
It is nice they provide breakfast provisions, some variety in cereal and tea would be an improvement, as would proper coffee.
Trees and shrubs close to the windows means it's quite dark inside, and you can't see sky without going outside.
There are three very nice newer cottages on the property which look much better.
- Isaac (8/5): - Great location Lack of cold water in bathroom sink
- Damian (8/5): Excellent - Location & fabulous condiments- Water pressure a bit low - was difficult to manage hot shower
- Tina (8/5): Lovely and clean, good for a little escape after a winery. - I liked the spa bath and the amenities. Loved the location and the surrounds especially the pond area at the front door was really cute. I didn’t like how it didn’t have a smart tv so we couldn’t stream a movie at night for downtime.
- Melinda (5/5): - Bed and Bathroom was nice Outside of villa looked unkept, spider webs and overgrown bushes Broken lights and lights so dark. Very minimal kitchenware and says breakfast included but it's a cook your own. No oil to cook. Restaurant was closed
- Melanie (1/5): DID NOT STAY. Mouldy, unclean and poorly maintained. - DID NOT STAY
We were at this property for 10 minutes before we decided we could not stay here with our young child. Very poorly maintained. Mould covering the outside, grass growing in gutters and a terrible musty smell as you enter. The property is very rundown, chips, dents and decaying furniture we didn’t want to risk sitting on.
The bedding had dirty marks, the bath was full of someone else’s hair, showers missing grout and mould on the remaining grout.
The property refused us a refund and we were left to find last minute accommodation elsewhere.
The property is nowhere near 4 star quality as advertised and certainly not worth the $400 rate.
After several follow ups, booking.com have offered a pathetic compensation amount that doesn’t come close to what we are left out of pocket.
A truly terrible and disappointing experience.
- Peter (7/5): Quirky, pleasant, some small simple changes/fixes would have given them a 10/10 - Breakfast was nice, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, juice, bread etc., Location good for us, close to family, with plenty to see in surrounding areas. Maintenance, six globes needed replacement, making it difficult to read at night, and a lot of TV stations had audio but no picture, curtain draw strings did not work on the curtains. Heating was touchy in adjustment, making it either too hot or cold overnight. All simple thing to fix but would greatly improve the stay. Lack of information on key on arrival or someone to inform complaints about on departure or any time.
- Miriam (8/5): Quiet relaxing comfy stay - Beautiful quiet setting with a very comfy bed. Some of the furniture was a bit tired.
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional - Spa bath dual bathroom and the space of the rooms nothing

- Andrea (6/5): Not sure if I would return or have my name associated with a recommendation to stay there. - The view of the vineyard. The reception person Will who needed to be phoned to have him meet us despite being 3:30pm was exceptionally rude and affronting.
The payment I had made via Bookings.com had not been properly processed by the hotel and he demanded I pay even though I showed him email confirmation of payment and bank transfer receipts. He refused to be in touch with bookings.com said I needed to sort it out. Then said it would be better if we left and found somewhere else to stay. I rang Bookings.com they spoke to him and then he apologised saying he was sorry and gave us a bottle of wine.
By this point we were so upset with children waiting in the car after a long drive that the stay was tainted.
Only half the lights worked in the main area. The range hood was so low we banged our face on the corner twice. Cabin 6

- Sunand Shankar (1/5): Book only Two bedroom Vineyard villas. Three bedroom wallace house is terrible. Horribly maintained- Lights not working, - Two bedroom Vineyard villas are okay Three bedroom wallace house is terrible. Horribly maintained- Lights not working, spider webs all around, intense vomiting smell in evening, fans making hell lot of sound, leaves all around. Staff don’t answer call after check in hours at all.
- Danny (10/5): - Breakfast was good view was great. easy parking Clean and tidy place to stay.
- Demuni Sanka (10/5): - Honestly this property was one of the best accommodations I've stayed at. For the price, what they offer is great! Very homey vibes and everything was very nice ❤️

- Daniel (9/5): - Warm and comfortable No dish towel to wasjh your dishes
Need to update tv
- Buitenhuis (5/5): Reasonable - Location and the unit wasn’t too bad It’s so run down and could be the best location and attraction. Such a shame !
- Christine (6/5): - Check in & location was good. WiFi was terrible! Property condition could do with some basic maintenance. We had a dirty glass sitting on the side table from the previous guest, the bathroom smelled of cigarettes & some of the amenities need to be refixed to the wall as they were just hanging on. Curtain hooks throughout were missing leaving them look untidy & number of light globes weren't working
- Sarah (8/5): Picturesque and comfortable stay - We had a wonderful stay at Wild Cattle Creek Hotel. The picturesque views of the vineyard made it such a relaxing getaway. Our room was comfortable and well-appointed, with a spacious bathroom and a bathtub that felt like a real luxury.
It was great having the on-site restaurant for dinner – the food was delicious and made the evening so easy and enjoyable. Breakfast was also great and convenient, with cook your own eggs, bacon, cereals, fruit cups, and milk.
We visited in the colder months and were very happy with how well the heating worked, keeping us cosy throughout our stay.
There was also plenty of space in the living area to relax, and everything was elegantly decorated. I'm a bit sad I didn't visit in summer, sitting on the deck in the sunshine would have been glorious!
- Trudie (5/5): Potential to be outstanding - On first impressions, this place looks amazing, super spacious and the outlook from the living area was lovely. Would have been awesome had the weather been kinder to us.
Great heating - definitely appreciated in a week where Victoria put on it's finest icy Winter blast!
Location was great for us - close to family and shops.
Breakfast provisions were more than enough for us and it's a thoughtful inclusion (not an extra cost) and we were grateful for this little addition. There was a full loaf of bread, butter, jams, cereals, fresh milk, eggs, tomatoes, bacon... plenty, and a selection of teas.
Kitchen was well enough appointed to be able to prepare and cook meals.
Didn't get to experience the restaurant as it wasn't open on the days we stayed. Little things that add up.
Communication - No call or message to advise how/where to collect the key, or any advice on where to leave the key on leaving.
The cabin we stayed in is sadly dated and could do with some TLC and some attention to detail - based on reviews, perhaps some of the other cabins have been updated and have better upkeep.
The toaster - need to jiggle the toaster lever to get it to stay down. It's an annoying little thing that can easily be resolved - Kmart sell great toasters really cheap.
The coffee canister was pretty much empty, may be a tablespoon of coffee left - not enough to do anything with (a comment echoed in other reviews!)
The light on the rangehood didn't work, and quite a few of the downlights were also not working.
Cleaning was lack lustre - quite a bit of spilt pepper on the kitchen bench, a dried up puddle of urine in one of the bathrooms, sticky floors. Cob webs in the bedroom (again also commented on in other reviews).
- Ashleigh (9/5): Beautiful location, having a wine in front of the fireplace made for a very relaxing stay. - It was very peaceful and relaxing. The fireplace made it warm and cosy. We had a very nice stay. N/A
- Debbie (10/5): - Beautiful place and scenery, very relaxing, meals were amazing at the restaurant, the wine was delicious. Staff were very friendly.
The bed was extremely comfy, and the breakfast facilities in the room were great. Heating in the villa was nice and toasty.
- Tiffany (10/5): - Kindest people and made the stay a great experience! Will keep coming back and staying there.
- John (3/5): This place needs a lot of maintenance. - The bed was comfortable. That was about it. There was a lot wrong with the place. This establishment has gone downhill since we first stayed there 2 years ago. No staff, no restaurant on the 2 nights we stayed there, badly in need of a lot of maintenance and not allocated the room we had booked without any notice. The establishment is now run remotely from Melb so no staff present when we were there. Limited breakfast items provided, in fact we used some breakfast items the second night as we weren't driving another 30kms for diner on the second night.
