Guest Reviews
- Jessie (10/5): -
- Peta (6/5): -
- Steven (8/5): -
- Michelle (8/5): Clean and excellent facilities. - Rooms were huge and clean The air conditioning didn't work to well because the room was hot when I got there. Maybe staff should turn them on one hour before arrivals.
- Bray (8/5): Friendly staff copy spot - Didn't have breakfast. Aircon in the room
- Jim (1/5): very very bad - you wern`t allowed to have breakfast in rooms being ABUSED by the female owner because staff brought food to our unit my lovely 74 year old wife of 57 years was stood over and bullied in front of others for taking food to our unit every where in the world you book a self contained unit you can prepare and cook food with the utensils supplied we had the usual like microwave toaster fridge and electric jug all you need as to prepare food but this person was not having any you have food in the self contained unit you were threatened with being throwned out i would never recommend this place to anyone and it was a really bad time for us and other people we spoke to
- Lynette (1/5): not alot to say had to book it as only accommodation around - nothing - please to get out off the place Room was very tired, beds had no blankets, bathroom need updating - toilet stained from age where do you stop
no breakfast on site
- Sophie (2/5): - It was green! It was not clean!
- Thet (7/5): enjoyable - quite location pretty isolated
- Paul (8/5): Peaceful - These are nice rooms. The pub food looked good but we didn't eat it. Pool area was lovely. Enjoyed the balcony. All the reviews are correct - being asked for all of your credit card details written on a piece of paper at check in is confronting - there are better ways to do this. A normal 10AM check out - not 9AM would make this a place you might want to stay instead of one you use when you need it. Two tiny changes to bring it in line with practically everywhere else - lots more happy guests. It has a BBQ area but it was taken all afternoon and all night by a group of men who were drinking - we didn't feel comfortable going there - not the properties fault - but maybe there is a way to manage it so that everyone can use the facilities.
- Latoya (3/5): - Room size and outside gardens The room needs a vacuum cleaner and and tea and coffee in the rooms would be nice after a long drive.
- Jacqui (8/5): Lovely atmospheric tavern, great staff, delicious meals and no gaming rooms to distract! - We have stayed here before and absolutely rate this place. If we lived in the area it would be our local of choice :) No pockies but a pool table, fireplace, quirky and eclectic accessories in the bar adding to the atmosphere, a great outdoor area with one of the nicest pool areas we've seen in an accomodation of this size. The food is exceptional and caters to special food requirements ie; Ceoliac, A great place for families, couples or single travellers. Everything that could be better is being seen to by management, some of the fittings are older but the important things like hot water, good pressure and comfy mattresses are already there. As said above some of the fittings especially in the bathroom are older but are a work in progress as is the case with most places.
- Gavan (10/5): The sort of place you wish you could go back to. - Exceptionally clean, modern motel with caring owners. Couldn’t get better. Nothing.
- Nicola (4/5): Disappointing - Beautiful location. Owners were nice once they got to know you Wasn't informed of a scheduled power outage. No blankets on bed. Constant reminders that they won't check you in after 7pm, despite not informing you of how bad the road is and roadworks on that road to get there.
- Aaron (1/5): Bad - The area and bar staff were nice Mould on ceilings ac dirty fans dirty room not cleaned properly was put in the wrong room through booking not owners fault mine when i booked it didn't fill it in properly but then charged extra for the room we should of had for the size of our family but we still had to stay in the small rooms even though we paid the extra lady was quite rude had to check out at 9am on a sunday morning with four kids thats not easy kitchen was only cooking pizzas on a friday night even though on menu on site was a alot to choose from also we got three different types of pizza they all basically tasted the same and not very good at that dominos would of been better and dominos are pretty bloody ordinary i wouldn't recommend staying there we wont be again ive stayed there many times before with no issues but new owners are not very polite or professional tap vanity tap broke in room told reception nothing was done about they simply didn't care were told we couldn't take food back to the room even though it comes with fridge microwave toaster jug ect and thats even though we bought the food off them
- Brenden (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacqui (9/5): Peace and Quiet with Accessible fun - A Great Place to Stay! - The view from our room looked out over the rainforest, so peaceful we were half expecting a Cassowary to pop out of the forest at any moment :) The room was comfortable and had everything we needed, the shower was hot and had great water pressure, The Tavern itself was fabulous! Plenty of character, friendly and helpful staff and exceptional meals!! My husband is Ceoliac and we often find it hard to get a great meal, only salad and steak or similar but he was able to enjoy a beautiful meal of lamb shanks and veges which was cooked to perfection with the meat falling of the bone. We also played a game of pool, and the table was great, had a thoroughly good time! The outdoor facilities are awesome, with one of the prettiest pools I have seen anywhere, with it's beautifully arranged rock and water fall features it is a haven for young and old. In winter there are fires to warm the environment both indoors and outdoors. Would definately think about having a party gathering there in the future!! With Speewah's proximity to Kuranda and all it has to offer it is the perfect place to stay if you prefer not to be in the hustle and bustle and affords easy access to the famous Kuranda Markets, the wildlife Santuary and the Butterfly Centre. Well and truly worth the stay :) The facilities ie bathroom in the room, was a little old but I'm sure given the state of everything else this was simply a matter of time before they would be upgraded. Everything worked fine so a touch of age wasn't a problem. I suspect the owners have spent wisely on the grounds and upgrading the outdoor facilities as they are brilliant.
- Whoop (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful and relaxing.
- Katie (1/5): Rude, unsafe, fraudulent business. - Not much. I felt unsafe. One arrival I was asked to write my credit card details along with my CVC (card verification number) on a piece of paper. When I said I didn't feel comfortable giving my CVC with my credit card number and expiry date, I was told I couldn't stay.
The phone number on Booking.com was incorrect, so I couldn't get in touch with the venue. Their check-in closes at 7pm and they were not polite on my arrival.
- Steve (5/5): Passable - Not a lot. The bar and restaurant is good but there are too many restrictions in place. Had to order dinner by 5:45. Otherwise, no food would be available The owner's who are clearly ready to move on. There are too many restrictions in place for dining. Had to order dinner by 5:45. Otherwise, no food would be available. Wanted a takeaway coffee in the morning. It was clearly a chore for the owners to make, although they reluctantly did make one. No WiFi available which is pretty poor tbh
- Emma (8/5): Very good -
- Barry (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous place to stay & relax, just sorry we didn't stay longer. Great tavern & lovely meal. Nothing to dislike.
- Jim (7/5): Good - Comfortable and convenient for my appointment next morning in Mareeba Machinery noise earhthmoving machinery maintenance being carried out only metres from my unit in afternoon when all I needed was quiet to recover from a medical procedure earlier that day, and diesel fumes drifting into my unit from the same operating machinery.
The S bend under the bathroom hand basin was disconnected in my room when I entered and resulted in a bit of a mess when I first used the hand basin.
I had to do the plumber thing myself and reconnect the S bend.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yumico (7/5): Good - Good overall but I wish I could find a hotel near Mareeba. The swimming pool didn't look clean and it was small.
- Beatrice (8/5): Very good -
- Monica (9/5): Superb -
- Joanne (8/5): Very good - Peaceful and relaxing looking at the rainforest. Close to Kuranda village and Cairns Very close to other cabins
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Nowland (5/5): Bathroom floods - Location was nice, view from the balcony was lovely. The bathroom flooded. Wetting clothes and we didn't have enough towels to stop it running out the door.
- Amanda (5/5): I wouldn’t choose to stay again however, a Reno would make so much difference - Location. Great facilities ie toaster, fridge and microwave. Accessibility for elderly parent. My only criticism would be the beds. Dirty mattresses and covers, these were unacceptable.
- Racheal (8/5): Great overnight stay - Great little stop over. Comfortable rooms, good pub, well priced yummy dinner. The only complaint would be the shower which leaked water all over the bathroom floor in our room.
- Sytsma (6/5): Pleasant -
- Nikolas (5/5): Ok Motel. Issue with 3rd person booking via Booking.com needs to be fixed. - Ok Motel located near to Kuranda. We booked and payed three persons person via Bokking.com. There was an extra charge of $25 per night for the extra adult that was charged on arrival. Be aware of that if you book third person. Discussion of that issue with manager was quite unfriendly.
- Tracy (5/5): Friendly staff scenic drive to location - Room a good size
Clean and tidy Tavern handy Lighting was very dark
Globe had blown but generally a very dark room
Bathroom mirror was very high couldn’t use it had to use the mirror in the main room
- Cooper (10/5): Exceptional -
- Colleen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lester139 (9/5): Pleasant stay - Nice quiet location, the cabin is very spacious with a nice verandah.nice big bed. The coffee sachet in room well past due dates!
- Carmelo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maggie (8/5): Excellent - Lovely country setting friendly staff Bill
- Dianne (5/5): Passable - Bathroom drainage was off.....the bathroom flooded while showering. No soap holder.
Complementary coffee sachets were old and mouldy....tea bags were loose and not individually wrapped hence they could of been handled by numerous people using/cleaning the room. Very poor lighting throughout.
- Christie (9/5): Great - Awesome place.. Nothing
- Godwin (9/5): Superb -
- Julie (9/5): Superb - Parking
- Gregg (8/5): Very good - Quite location good food
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (3/5): I would never stay there again - You can only check in between 4.00pm and 7.00pm. They won’t leave a key
Area is isolated
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Nick (1/5): Left the property the next day feeling very upset with the way we were treated. - The facilities and room were OK. The food was good. Location was good. Everyone apart from the blond haired lady staff member were good and quite hospitable. The fellow that checked us in was great and made us feel welcome. Having worked in Hospitality for a number of years, the blond haired lady staff member was rude from the outset and really ruined what would have otherwise been an OK stay. I usually don't bother with reviews, however this one felt justified to warn others. She really should not be dealing with patrons directly with such a poor attitude. Will NEVER stay here again.
- Hewlett (10/5): Exceptional - The location so beautiful The quiet and the surrounding
- Wayne (5/5): Good except for brown water supply. - Room good NO brown water out of shower and taps.
- Jl (6/5): Country Tavern - Nice staff. Loved the rain forrest outlook from the balcony. I had dinner at the tavern. Simple adequate menu. Pub food. Speewah tavern is in a quiet, small place, which I chose as I knew I'd be too late to make my Ravenshoe destination. Shower floor flooded.
- Kylie (5/5): Average at best - Location, close to Kuranda and the rainforest outlook from the balcony. Can't book in after 7pm with wasn't really clear on the Booking.com site, found out in an email. We we're travelling from interstate and email reception was hit and miss so it was a touch and go whether we would make it time and no refunds, so we had it push it. Bar manager was lovely even though the owner was barking orders at him from the kitchen. Also had to order dinner from the menu by 7pm. I got the Wednesday special Rump Steak, and it was lucky if it was 2mm thick, more a minute steak then a juicy rump. Then we went back to the room for a shower and the water doesn't run into the shower drain, had to put our towels on the floor to soak up the water.
- Bella (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (7/5): Good - Everything was good Everything was good
- Helen (8/5): Enjoyed it to the extent, I stayed further 5 nights - The quote and friendliness.
Great food Had a few issues with water, that can happen when your rural
- Renae (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matcan90 (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (4/5): Lovely nice price reasonable but wifi outside furniture cleanliness not good - Location Wifi
- Laksiri (2/5): Very poor - The lady on check-in was very rude. In all my years staying in many places, I have never been spoken to like this and will not be returning due to how rude she was. had literally only said I have a room booked, and she was rude from the moment her mouth opened.
- Nancy (7/5): Good - good location- quiet, simple accomodation
- Bernadette (7/5): Good -
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Suzanne (4/5): Don’t bother. Simple things could be done well but not here! - Location to family. The owner was quite rude on checkin - they couldn’t find our paperwork and the young man had to locate the owner. She marched in, didn’t know who we were and her comments were made to her staff ‘just take their money and they have to be out by 9am’……um we are staying for more than one night…. Again not to us…. Take their money and they need to be out by 9am on checkout day… and she left!
Room - bed super uncomfortable - to the point we had to go buy a Kmart foam overlay to try to get a good night sleep. Room did look clean, till you were lying in bed and saw the mouldy ceiling.
Bathroom - put my stuff on the window sill as the little mirror cupboard had mouldy shelves. Shower - used to have a shower screen as the track still on the floor but 2 shower curtains now and if you weren’t careful - water all over the bathroom floor.
Service - we were there 6 nights. No bed change and no fresh towels.
Breakfast not available, dinner closed early.
We were glad to leave and very disappointed. Won’t be back under this management!
- Bernard (8/5): Very good -
- Bob (7/5): Good - Location & price. Manager was not pleasant.
- Kim (4/5): Disappointing - Meals were nice at the restaurant. I booked the entire accommodation for my family from overseas and friends for our wedding and we booked the restaurant for 30 people for the night prior to the wedding. The meal was beautiful however the hospitality from the owner/mangers is very questionable they were not friendly or welcoming throughout our guests entire stay. Not one quest said anything nice about them and they all said the bathrooms in the rooms very not very clean and were in a desperate need of an update. Our quests stayed two nights and on the Saturday morning breakfast was all done by 7am and on Sunday morning the kitchen didn't open for breakfast. On the morning of checkout they were knocking on our quests doors making sure people were checking out by 9am.
It would have been nice if our quests were shown a little country hospitality but all they got was a bad experience and a bitter taste vowing never to return. As for us being locals we will never support this business again.
- Kim (4/5): Disappointing - Not much All I can say is rude rude and rude will never stay or eat here again
- Bernard (9/5): Superb -
- Nikita (1/5): Bad - Staff was extremely rude
Nothing nice to say Everything
Staff was horrible
Recommend every one not to go there
- Palmer (9/5): Superb -
- Maima (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (6/5): Pleasant -
- Shannon (8/5): Awesome property with great food. - Everything except the shower The bathrooms shower didn’t drain properly meaning water splashed all over the floor and sat on the floor outside of the shower area
- Bligh (6/5): Pleasant -
- Laurena (8/5): Great stay overall with friendly staff, and a pub with great food - The pub had amazing pizza, with a little fire going which made it cosier Shame that the check out time is 0900AM
- Julie (7/5): Good -
- Annette (8/5): Very good -
- Troy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sandra (3/5): Needs to be upgraded to match the cost - Close to family Check out at 9am
- Wayne (8/5): Very good -
- Barbara (7/5): Good -
- Pauline (8/5): Very good - View was beautiful The shower seemed to be blocked. After showering complete wet floor
- Adelle (9/5): Quiet, comfortable and pleasant rooms with a lovely bush outlook. - We loved the bush outlook on the private back balcony. The rooms were situated enough away from the jovial of the Tavern, yet close enough for a comfortable short stroll to the Tavern for dinner (which was also delicious and very enjoyable!) We were told Booking.com doesn't include the price ($25) for extra adults in their calculations so on check-in we paid extra than the original quote. (We were informed via sms message about this issue about a month before we were booked to stay). As the booking was in school holidays it was too late to enquire elsewhere and compare prices.
- Scott (9/5): Superb - Very good value for money Room was clean and tidy and comfortable
- Catberine (7/5): Good - Being in the country. The shower didn't drain properly
Shrieking Curlews at 3am (you can't help them)
- Jodie (5/5): Great food. Great bar staff. Cleaning lady is a total Karen and ruined our entire experience - Bar staff was great. Food at the Tavern was awesome. Beautiful location We were approached very rudely at 9:03 as we were leaving the room by a staff member who screeched at us “you do know you have to check out by 9:00!!” Absolutely spoiled the entire stay. Will not be staying again. 3 minutes! Seriously! Cranky cow.
- Gloria (5/5): Passable -
- Victoria (9/5): Superb -
