Guest Reviews
- Nathan (4/5): - Couldn't find the location. It was hidden down an alleyway. 16 year old wasn't allowed to stay because he didn't have identification with him. Was not refunded.
- Jim (8/5): -
- Glen (8/5): -
- lorraine (7/5): -
- Kathleen (4/5): Wouldn't recommend for older couples - The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean but that is all The drains in the bathroom were really smelly the rack to hang clothes was broken, the plaster was coming off the walls the toilet seat was scratched and the noise from the DJ downstairs vibrated the room with the doff doff music from 10pm until 2am
- Toni (4/5): -
- Paul (6/5): - Good location, friendly bar staff and we checked in who gave clear directions. It’s a bit rundown. Rotting window frames and peeling paint. The bar also stays open until 3 am with music continuing until 2 am on a Thursday night. The giveaway was the replacement of the traditional chocolate on the pillow with a pair of earbuds.
- Becky (5/5): - Easy location and comfy beds There was food although out the kitchen, as in half eaten chips packets, a chocolate bar and there was a half eaten pizza still in the fridge. There were random things in the drawers like rubbish, key rings and cockroaches. The beds had hair so I am thinking these aren't changed each stay. We found checkout to be a little troubling as the pub was closed and we didn't know where to put the key.
- Jess (1/5): Will avoid. Staff were very nice though - Lovely staff, location was good Rooms were very dated and smelt funky. Power Outlet near bed was coming out of the wall. Did not end up sleeping at the hotel and driving home dodging Roos when we saw a couple of cockroaches. Couldn’t shut the windows in the bathroom so cold breeze coming through and Goulburn does get very cold at night
- Lucas (5/5): Good cheap accommodation. - Staff were nice. To be expected at a pub which is open until 3am, loud music etc. Wasn't as bad as we thought however.
- Hope (6/5): - Staff was lovely, the bathroom worked well and the bed was comfortable The only bad thing was the pulsing vibrating walls until 2am because of the DJ downstairs which made it harder to sleep which I’m guessing wouldn’t happen every night. And for some reason the tv had a blue filter on it?
- Christopher (10/5): -
- Justine (5/5): - Clean Noisy
- Leo (10/5): One of three places in Goulburn that are the top places to stay no hidden surprises. - The designer of room six was really comfortable that just made sense. The shower runs hot plenty of room in the bathroom good airflow if you want to open the windows plus it’s a really safe place to stay the night. Also you’re close to everything plenty of specialty stores and food nearby if you’re a smoker there’s a chair outside. You can sit down at the table and have a cigarette or a vape if you do that. Quite impressive, actually. There wasn’t a thing I didn’t like about the property.
- Melissa (8/5): Friendly staff clean and comfortable room -
- Kristy (5/5): -
- Bruce (8/5): - Very clean & tidy Background noise with night club downstairs
- Doreen (5/5): They could fix up the windows, put fly screens in, and fix up the cracks in the plaster. - Staff were friendly, had toilet and shower in the room, plus a tv. The air conditioning was a blessing. Both windows were jammed with a soapdish and folded paper. There were no mosquito nets, got bitten badly in room.
- Aaron (1/5): We were not informed about the nightclub underneath the accommodation until we asked what the ear plugs in our room were - The room and linen were clean Nightclub underneath the rooms ran until 2.30am
No mattress protector on the bed so the thin sheet was directly on the mattress
- David (2/5): -
- Amanda (7/5): -
- Lanfear (9/5): -
- Christopher (10/5): - Staff as they always are very friendly n accommodating.
- Christopher (10/5): -
- Jo (1/5): Avoid! - Nothing! The facilities were suspect but acceptable at first glance.....BUT I handed back the key after finding out they were expecting up to 300 for a live music night that went til 3am. There was no warning in the listing and it wasn't mentioned when I arrived. I found out by accident. I requested a refund but no response. Appalling..... - Scotts (8/5): Good value stay in a good pub. - Very clean -
- Peter (3/5): The noise is my extremely bad coming from down stairs in the actual same hotel. - Reasonable value The noise coming from the hotel was so loud I could not get to sleep until it stopped at 3:00am. At 12:00pm I went down stairs to request it to stop. The guy at the bar turned it down but only slightly. The volume from my bed room, even when he turned it down, was still too loud for me to get to sleep.
- Robert (1/5): - Nothing The building should be demolished.
You should not have this dump on your website site
- Aidan (2/5): Old ran down rooms that are not maintained properly - Rooms were big Air conditioning unit was noisey and didn’t work properly. Other guests were loud slamming doors and could get to sleep at all.
- John (4/5): Will never book again - Bed & Shower. No breakfast or Meals available, No kitchen! No WiFi.
Room was above doorway, with load music until 3.00am.
Not told these things before booking!!
- Darren (1/5): - Not All
- Ashlee (1/5): Not too happy - Staff were nice The window wouldn't close and the bathroom stank, we didn't want to stay the night due to the quality of the room
- Ben (1/5): Its not until after you book, and they take your money that they inform you that there will be a dj - Not much DJ playing until early hours of the morning
- Gyorgyi (1/5): - On the night of our stay, a DJ event was held within the hotel from approximately 10:00 pm until 3:00 am. The noise level was extreme and ongoing, to the point that our hotel room was physically shaking, including the windows and the floor. As a result, it was impossible to sleep or rest for the duration of the night.
At no stage were we notified of this event, either at the time of booking or during check-in. Had we been made aware of such significant noise disturbances, we would not have proceeded with the booking. The lack of disclosure is unacceptable and misleading, particularly for guests who reasonably expect hotel accommodation to provide a quiet environment overnight.
- Vicki (3/5): Never again - Price was good, shower good Noise and vibration from entertainment below was servere , ear plugs nowhere near enough
Staff not very welcoming
- gillian (6/5): Overall for the money great hotel to stay in the heart of town - Position in town . No meals available
- Jennie (5/5): - That one night outta 2 we could sleep Saturday night Noise shaking through walls from loud music til 3am
Sunday was a better sleep
- Sharon (2/5): -
- Tamsin (9/5): Warm and suitable for a quick sleep and shower whilst travelling thru town. - It’s central location A little basic and dated
- Robert (2/5): Not much sleep and very tired the next day - Central location. The bathroom was good. The bed room was rudimentary with the smallest TV I have seen, a poorly fitted window, no clothes hanging to speak of. But that’s nothing compared to the thumping bass coming from the lower floor making sleep very difficult even with the supplied ear plugs!!!
- Voyal (6/5): -
- Chris (9/5): -
- Nick (10/5): Fantastic - Very Nice and cosy N/A
- Michelle (3/5): -
- Narayan (1/5): - The noise level from downstairs was a joke. Up until 3 in the morning
- Jesse (5/5): -
- Bob (2/5): Will not stay in this hotel again. Pleasant atmosphere in bar during the day. No bistro. - Sceptic water was odorous throughout the day and night.
Ear plugs were on the pillow. Loud music could be heard and felt through the room
This was not stated at the time of booking.
TV reception was poor.
- van der Laan (1/5): Vreselijk! Oud. Lawaaierig. Zit boven een bar. - Niets Alles
- wright (1/5): Would not stay again - Late night check in but that's about it The DJ I was told was a live singer played music untill 3am so loud our bed shook the staff were very rude and the rooms were filthy
- Benoit (4/5): Good price and location but limited confort - Right in the center next to restaurants and shops Very old room, desperately needs renovation
- Huitson (1/5): Too noisy - Clean The noise!
- Purchase (1/5): Refund please. - Nothing We did not like anything about this accommodation and i am surprised that your company endorsed this business. The rooms are substandard and the location is not conducive to sleep and a good night's rest...which was the sole purpose of booking the accommodation. We spoke to the staff and they were happy to refund. We would respectfully ask for a full refund, including your margins/commissions. We have4 been a long time user of your platform but on this occasion, you have let us down.
- Nerida (6/5): Never again! - Not much, but it was very clean! It was very old, paint peeling from the walls, windows without fly screens so couldn’t be left open. Rooms were tiny. Only 1 chair in each room when there were three people staying. No table to sit at. It was just a bed in a room.
- Peter (1/5): - I could leave any time I liked The noise. It's some sort of night club evidently.
- david (7/5): - Clean. Convenient and good value
- Heidi (2/5): Will never go back. - The staff were friendly
There was a lovely book in the TV stand on fashion/punk rock icon Stephen Sprouse. The room was so noisy that the hotel supplied earplugs. The noise didn’t stop till the hotel closed at 3am. It was so noisy that the room vibrated with the noise.
To get to the room you had to up 2 flights of external stairs in the rain.
There was no bedside light.
The TV was too small to view from the bed, and probably wouldn’t have been audible over the noise.
Aircon very weak and noisy.
Bathroom a bit smelly.
Something in the room gave me hay fever. There were no tissues to help me deal with thee hay fever.
All this would be fine if mentioned in the accommodation description.
- Kasiyono (6/5): Good - Good Good
- peter (7/5): - Location Noise on the weekend
- David (2/5): The notice should vomevv bf with a warning. - It did say in the website that there would be VERY loud music until 2:30 am. The DJ
- SMIDTY (6/5): -
- Marrilyn (10/5): -
- Duncan (10/5): - Very comfortable and close to everything It was fine
- Ric (9/5): -
- Mike (1/5): - Super clean and fresh beddings and sheet. Nice supportive staff. The room and the bed.
- christopher (8/5): -
- Astill (6/5): -
- John (5/5): - Classic accommodation. Nearby music den thumping away to 3:30 am.
- Vicki (5/5): Very basic m nommm - Central location. You can tell the hotel is being upgraded A very basic standard of accomodation. Paint is peeling, beet cans on the stairs, windows propped open with a soap container
- Peter (9/5): - Room facilities pub
- Jenni (6/5): Very convenient location - For a very old building that needs a little tlc, the room was very clean, great shower, biscuits, bottled water, and plenty of milk for a cuppa. The bed was comfortable, too. No fly screens on windows
No mattress protector under bottom sheet.
- Annabelle (9/5): just great. - The location and the convenience of where I would like to go.
- Catherine (5/5): Would have been fine except for the cigarette smoke stench. - The smell of cigarette smoke inside coming from the level below and the noise.
- McFarlane (10/5): - The bar staff was very friendly and helpful. I didn't have more time there
- Victor (1/5): -
- ABDulgofur (1/5): - While I book they says they have Safe parking . After arriving they no have any safe parking . I have traveled with my van with full of power tools worth with 30000$ . And I have drive the van more then 11 hours and after arrived I found no have safe parking . Booking app found me another hotel after 3 hours . But I didn’t receive refound.
- Julie (7/5): Comfortable - Banging of outside door
- Malia (7/5): -
- Wayne (7/5): - N/A This old pub doesn't serve any food items at the time we went,
maybe in the future it will change,
There is such an abundance of food choices within 5 minutes walking it didn't matter.
- Orford (9/5): The cleanliness and friendliness was amazing - The cleanliness was the best hotel I have stayed in.
The staff were great, especially Alana who helped me with the room. Nothing it was good
- Smith (7/5): -
- Powley (6/5): -
- Anthony (7/5): - Room was renovated and was quite roomy - better than expected. Late night music on Friday & Saturday but not as noisy as expected, which was a relief.
- Zraika (8/5): -
- Benjamin (2/5): not great.... - The property is in the heart of Goulburn, so it has position on it's side. Pub staff were nice. We stayed on a Saturday night. Turns out they have a full-on nightclub going from 10pm-3am. To say it's LOUD is an understatement. Probably an awesome thing if you're going to the nightclub, not great when you need to sleep directly above it. It sounds like the speakers are in the room with you. I had to leave to find other accommodation. How they can sell the rooms on a Saturday night knowing there was going to be unbearable noise is beyond me (they even kindly put earplugs on the pillows - they knew, they knew). To be fair, the place would have been fine on any other night, I'm sure. The staff seemed nice. Ask about the nightclub and avoid those nights. Was offered a refund which, at the time of writing 2 weeks later, hasn't come through despite followups.
- Kate (5/5): Goulburn overnight - Clean with good location stuff at venue very nice
- Adam (4/5): Getting and sleep between 10pm and 2:30 am is impossible due to the stupidly loud Duff Duff music . - Location is good and access to dinning in the main street , room was clean and good value for money, but the night life means you will not sleep due to the ridiculously loud techno duff duff Rav music that plays for a four and half hour period. This music is so loud the room violently vibrates and thumbs to the Bass making sleep totally impossible even with ear plugs .
If you like really loud techno Duff Duff music this is the place for you ... Some thing potential travelers need to know is if you stay at the empire hotel on a Friday and Saturday dont expect to get any sleep between the hours 10pm to 2:30 am as the ridiculously loud techno duff duff Rav music that plays for that four and half hour period is so loud the room violently vibrates and thumbs to the Bass making sleep totally impossible even with ear plugs .
If i had off know about the loud night life activities I would not have booked a room at this location .
- Walker (4/5): -
- gavin (3/5): Worst night ever - The room was good and the price was right I didn't like the very loud music that started at 10:30pm and went on until 2:30am.
Made my stop over to refresh so I could keep driving home very difficult.
I won't ever stay there again
- Christopher (5/5): -
- Anna (10/5): -
- Maureen (8/5): - Not too bad
- Otto (3/5): Horrible because of the party which was happen downstairs in the pub - How a hotel host a party till 3am with loud music when the guests are trying to sleep? I need to leave the hotel and drive 2hs to arrive in my destine and sleep. This is ridiculous. The propose of an hotel is to guests to rest and relax. The hotel offer exactly the opposite.
- Marisa (5/5): I won't be back, there is plenty of accommodation in Goulburn for similar price, do some research. - The security getting into the building was great. Close to shops and parking outside. There was a terrible smell in the room, it was coming from the bathroom so I think it might have been the pipes, was very unpleasant, the bed was uncomfortable and TV remote didn't work. Thankfully it was stop over otherwise I would have been really mad.
- richard (3/5): Not suggested - The bass thumping through the walls after 10 o’clock
- Rachael (3/5): If you literally just need someone to sleep whilst passing through then this place will do. - Location, staff were friendly Rooms were old and outdated, entrance to the rooms needed some improvement and tidying
We were warned about the DJ until 2.30am when we arrived, it would have been nice for this to be more obvious when booking on booking.com.au but dealer, what was really annoying however is we had just gotten our 10 month old to sleep and then the fire alarm went off and we were evacuated. Turns out it went off because someone else was smoking in their room and this is in turn completely ruined her sleeping pattern and lead to a very frustrating and tiring night for us. I also understand the prices being higher on the weekends (we stayed on a Friday night) HOWEVER I don’t think you should be charging more with a thumping dj playing and patrons screaming and yelling outside the rooms till all hours of the morning. I feel ripped off that we paid a premium price to get less sleep?
