Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (4/5): No pool but price are room with pool facilities. - pool are not open, so paying for room with room+pool charge are expensive. Trying to call before booking but not pick up. very dissappointed because the main objective are to bring the kids to the "hotel" and playing pools.
- Hilmi (2/5): Dissappointing Holiday-Actual vs Ads,Not worth it… - When we arrived, a woman believed to be the person who do the arrangement, gave us a key and showed us an old apartment nearby where the surrounding was unbelievable and scary, not like the one shown in the advertisement. The area mostly occupied by foreigners (ie: Nepal, Myanmar, Indon, etc) and the building was badly smelled. A number of people looks like drug addicts. Difficult for us to find the unit because It was dark. When we were in the apartment, we felt that we were cheated because what we saw in the ads was totally different. The smelly apartment facing a field with long grass and debris here n there. Bedsheets in the rooms were dirty, believed to be recycled. We thought to go out of that area and lodge a police report and find accommodation at other places. After an hour, suddenly a woman came and told us that there was one unit vacant fronting the pool. She then asked us whether we want to be upgraded by moving to that unit. Since we have made a payment, no choice except to move to other unit mentioned by that woman. Though the unit that we moved in was a bit better than the previous one, the building was the same, both were old building. The overall facilities were disappointing. The price closed to RM1,400 for 2 nights was really not worth it. I won’t recommend to others. Won’t come for the 2nd time. Dissappointed….don’t advertise it lor….u r cheating people…
- zhr (6/5): Checkout hassle - Everything was ok except for the bad checkout experience. It is not a hotel, more like a resident apartment.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cheap but not really cheerful - I chose this because of budget but I would spend a little more next time. The apartment was ok in size and beds and pillows ok.The major downfall is the area and lack of kitchen stuff. We had 4 small boys and it would have been nice to have some bowls and cups at the apartment as it does have a kitchen. Also would have been helpful if the fridge was turned on before we turned up.
- salmahh2017 (4/5): Not Hotel. No free cancelation. - It is not a hotel. Just room for rent. Once you confirmed booking, you will not able to cancel. Cancel with full payment even it is weeks before booked date. Have to call the owner to come for the key. Cash. Not all room has balcony. Family single room expensive and small. Have water boiler, hair dryer and iron. No supply of coffee, tea. Bring your own.
- Anbalagan (10/5): - Good stay . Clean and comfortable rooms . Wonderful water facility . No distribution from others. My kids happy over their and enjoyed Swiming pool ..........
- MAHATHIR (6/5): great for family - it okay for family stay
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hotel location - Hotel location is nearby to malacca amenities ie Jonker Street, Dataran Pahlawan, Mahkota Parade, Hatten etc
- KK (2/5): Over price and not safe to stay - I booked this room with Expedia on 29th Sept 2016 at 19.23 after seeing the attracted front views of the building and booked it for MYR 245.00 as I believed this price must be good in Melacca. The staff called and asked me to contact her when arrived at the location car park. After waited for 10 or more minutes at the car park, she leaded me to the building (from the car park)and when up to the room. I observed that there isn't and reception counters and no security guards. She opened the house main door and realized that this is just a condominium being converted with few individual rooms, likely a 6 rooms marked from A to F individually. I felt like staying in a confined area and feel so uncomfortable and completely feel like being boxed in a cubicle. I called expedia for cancellation immediately, the Expedia's staff was unable to reached the owner's phone In order to confirm my booking cancellation; all the calls were went to voicemails. This is about 9.30 pm. So, I feel the owner of the place planned not to accept the cancellation. I have also asked the Expedia's staff to follow up the refund but no news from Expedia.
- farhananana (6/5): Its okay. - Like previous review said. Its not a hotel. Its an apartment. I booked a 3 bedroom apartment. Its stated that we have to pay with visa card. But when we get there, they asked us to pay cash. So bring some cash people. The apartment and the room are comfy and clean, we kinda love it. Theres iron, complimentary drinks, water heater & microwave. The wifi is not very strong. But overall we kinda satisfied with this apartment.
- Elizabeth (6/5): Decent Hotel but need refurbishing badly. - Considering that it was an apartment it would have been good if there was cooking facilities. No coffee/tea facilities. You can't leave anythin around. Lots of ants around, even on the bar fidge provided in the kitchen. Probably should have some pest control people do something about it.
- yippopotamus (4/5): Clean and comfortable, but NOT A HOTEL! - Let’s be clear here. I’m not sure how TripAdvisor defines hotels, but to me, this is NOT a hotel. This is an apartment for rent. And a poorly equipped on at that. We rated this "poor" because although there were things we liked about this place, it simply did not live up to its own description.
There is no reception, no restaurant, no signage, no one site staff. So there was no service.
If you're catching a taxi, you'll need the address. They won't have a clue based on the name.
When we got to the address, it was so unclear that we had to ring the number on the booking confirmation and then someone turned up and showed us the room and gave us the key.
The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The kitchen had lots of appliances, but not enough cups or glasses to match the rooms.
We booked a 3 bedroom place for 5 guests. The room sleeps up to 6, but there were only 4 glasses and cups. We had to take turns with our drinks!!!!
Also there was zero cleaning equipment. No washing up liquid, clothes or tea towels. Wouldn’t you expect this from a serviced apartment?
Also, a very odd feature was that the ensuite was entirely see-through. In no universe is it OK for you to be visible when you're doing your business!
The towels were thin and worn. The curtains could barely keep the light out.
The beds were very comfy as was the lounge area. They aircom was very efficient. The bathroom and kitchen were really clean.
This spot is not close to town. It is a 10 ringgit taxi ride, which is OK, I guess.
There are shops and ATMs close by.
The pool looked pretty cool, but we did not have the chance to give it a try.
What we liked best about this place was that the room was pretty modern and comfortable.
What we did not like was this this is NOT a hotel, and that as an apartment, it was pretty poorly equipped.
- Miminazila (4/5): A place not well maintained - A few years back when I stayed here the place was clean and nice, unfortunately the place was not well maintained...we requested for 3 bedroom apartment and the first apartment they gave us which is so called at the new building across the old place...the grass were half my height...the corridor were so dirty, the elevator do not have any sensor at all and almost crush us...the apartment was clean but too small for a 3 bedroom apartment...3 small rooms and only 1 bathroom...the apartment is fully aircond but we just can't stay in there as it looks like a pigeon hole for the 5 of us. We requested for them to change us to one of the older apartment which is near the swimming pool...they obliged. Unfortunately, while the place is better and bigger with 2 bathrooms, there is no aircond in the living room, there's a small old TV that didn't work, only the aricond in the master bed room is working while the airconds in the other 2 rooms didn't work. SInce it was just a one nite stay and most of the time we will be out shopping and eating...we didn't request for a change... the swimming pool is well maintain..it's big and that's the only thing that save the day... but to come here again given all the choices of places to stay in Melaka with the same rate is a Big NO...
- mohd (8/5): - Facilities: Nice ; Value: Economical; Service: Good; Cleanliness: Pleasant;
- secondgen561 (8/5): Fantastic & marvelous! - Rooms are neat and tidy. Whole apartment is very clean. Furnitures are nice too. Kids love the wide and nice swimming pool. Nearby to all amenities. Mahkota parade is just minutes away. Sungai Duyong Seafood,was awesome and just around 10 minutes driving. Expenditure worth every cents!
- josepho53 (6/5): Exterior bad but interior is good - There are pluses & negative points about this hotel apartment. Let's take a look at the negatives first:
1. The exterior does not look good, it really needs a coat of paint & upgrading. We expected the worst when we saw the outside.
2. The lift. It is slow & does not work well. Sometimes it stops & the door does not open. We tok the stairs most of the time.
3. Collection of keys. We had to collect & return the keys at the guard house in another building apartment - probably managed by the same people.
On the positive:
1. The interior was definitely tastefully done. The furniture was simple but we had a pleasant feel of the apartment.
2. There was a kitchenette was useful.
3. There was a separation for the toilet & wash area for cleaning up. Both can be used for bath. Good design but by the toilet & wash area is very small. I believe it was probably one bathroom but they walled it up to separate it into 2 which makes it more convenient if there are many people staying there.
4. There were 3 bedrooms and the to our surprise the quality of the mattresses supplied were really good.
5. There were 12 of us & since we took 2 rooms, the apartments they provided us had interconnecting doors, which is especially good for families. However the back room (with window) which I took is a bit noisy from traffic & noise from the coffee shops near by. There is another back room without window which was pretty sound proof.
5. Location is good, just within a few minutes drive to the tourist attractions in Melaka
Overall we had a great stay there & for those on a budget this place is really value for money.
- fariza (10/5): - Value: Economical;
- azim (8/5): - Value: Affordable; Service: Basic; Cleanliness: Pleasant;
- LeeSummer (8/5): More than what is expected - 1st time staying in apartment of 3 bedrooms as 5 of us staying. The apartment is clean and the design of the apartment is simple but each wall come with cheer colour that make the apartment welcome. The apartment come with towels, shampoo and body wash which is more than than we expect as we bought our own. High floor with the view of city and sea. Excellent!!!
- glen (6/5): - Facilities: Basic; Value: Exorbitant; Service: Sufficient; Cleanliness: Pleasant;
not worth the money
- Chelsia (8/5): - Value: Great deal;
- peng (8/5): -
easy to move around in a car.
- Travelicious_K (8/5): Good place for group stays - This was our first time staying in an apartment so we were rather nervous about our decision, but once we walked into the place, our worries were put to rest. Big, clean apartment with new furniture, good air conditioning/ventilation, well maintained place. It was nice to be together in a group in one place as opposed to individual hotel rooms. No complaints - will definitely come back. The 3 bedroom deluxe apartment which we took was comfortable for the 7 of us as there was a pull out bed in the hall. Shame we didn't get the opportunity to use the pool which was very clean and well maintained. The people who managed the place were also very nice and accommodating. Plus, this apartment is within a 5 minute drive from the city center.
- DeenHanafi (6/5): Fit for Five - A complex of three blocks of medium range condominium. 2 elevators service per block. Ours is Emerald Tower, Level 12 Unit #6 (ET-12-6). A medium size two bedroom apartment. One fixed with Queen bed and another two single beds. Clean and nice view as well. For that size, it is just nice for five adults. If you have additional person, be it a kid or adult, suggest to get the three-bedroom apartment.
Only provided four piece of very thin towel. So, kind of good if you can bring your own towel. Don't forget your tooth brush too since the only amenities provided are shower gel and shampoo.
There is a kitchen in the apartment, but you need to bring your own cutlery. A top-load washing machine is also available for use.
Astro (satellite TV) is available with very limited channels. If I can recall, only terresterial channels are available. No cable channels. Reception of signal is good contrary to few reviews I have read.
Check in is easy. Just informed them the time you will be arriving and pick up the key from the Security Post. If you are driving, car parking is a plenty around the blocks within the area. Just bear in mind that the security is not that tight hence, do put in additional security measure to your vehicle such as steering lock.
If you have any other request during your stay, too bad since there is no reception area. Best thing you can do is called the contact person (you will find their business card on the TV rack) or informed the guards.
Overall, we are satisfied with the apartment. Would recommend for family who prefer to stick together. For the price we paid, it is only slightly cheaper from booking two rooms at the 3-star hotel.
Additionally, public transport may no be easy to get i.e., taxi. You may have to ask security gurads to call one for you or walk a bit to the main road at teh Melaka Raya area.
- Yap (10/5): - Facilities: Nice ; Value: Fantastic, Value for money!; Service: Professional; Cleanliness: Spotless;
- Dennis (6/5): - Facilities: Bare minimum; Value: Over-priced; Service: just ok; Cleanliness: Pleasant;
- Margaret2866 (8/5): Good place to stay - We stayed in a 3-bedroom apartment, with very nice view. The rooms were spacious and clean and the beds were fine. For our family (5 persons) it was a bit too far to walk to the centre of Melaka, so we drove up there and parked our car at the shopping mall.
Overall quiet place to stay, although we were suddenly disturbed by the sound of a heavy drill close to our apartment.
We found that there were only few cups, plates and cutlery. We had to drink our coca cola from teacups! Some glasses and bowls would be handy. Wifi would also be a good idea to install.
The swimming pool was great. Our kids really enjoyed this.
Overall good value for money.
- Skinslim (6/5): Rented condo for stay - General condo condition and security - average with a nice pool
Rooms - spacious and clean
Air-con - still new for all rooms as well as hall with aircon and fan
Note : Owner/helper will go into your locked apartment without informing you to change towels and clean-up rooms - so bring your own padlock for security and request safebox if available
No newspaper/No Wifi and No Sports channel.
Nearby KTV pub with occasional blasted music till almost midnight - quite annoying
- SylviaL84 (10/5): A nice & cozy place to stay for all types of travelers - The renovation & furniture all so nice. Cleanliness is very good also. Swimming pool is normal & don't forget to bring along your swimming suit. The beds are so comfortable. It's really a very nice & cozy place to stay with reasonable price.
- christina_fong (8/5): Good place for family - We stay in a 2 bedroom apartment. The 2 rooms are very clean and neat especially for family who have children, it will be a good place to choose.The apartment rental rate is affordable. The car park is very spacious. 1 disadvantage is no wifi, it's very inconvenience. The management should consider fixing it, even if needed to pay. At least guest have a choice to choose.
- babak625 (10/5): a very nice place for a group to feel yourself at home - very clean nicely furnished apartment. you should not expect the amenities of a five star hotel like reception and welcoming drink but you can expect the cleanliness and nice design of a very nice hotel. the swimming pool is great and the view was fantastic ( the pool view unit). the distance to the nice places of Melaka is so little and convenient. for a group of friends or family staying. we where a group of 3 couples and enjoyed the time there
- Kein (10/5): - Facilities: Home away from home, Outstanding; Value: Affordable; Service: Outstanding; Cleanliness: Beautiful;
- Rahiman (10/5): - Facilities: Nice ; Value: Affordable; Service: Professional; Cleanliness: Immaculate;
- YusoffSG (6/5): suitable for big family and reasonably priced - Just came back from holiday at Melaka.......staying in 3-room apartment....clean, big dining room , all rooms aircond except hall with ceiling fan....swimming pool at ground floor...big carpark...open and void deck
some setbacks....void deck has steep ramp...not suitable for low profile cars..
no WiFi.....nowadays it is a must..even if it is charged
- uki_05 (4/5): Simple Accomodation - Stayed for a night over the new year weekend as no other hotels are available for our party of 6 adults and 3 kids.
Firstly, received an sms at about 2pm informing us to do the check in and collection of keys at the guardhouse. Upon reaching, do we find that it was Garden City Apartments. Check in was fuss free; sign a booking/invoice/receipt, paid up in full cash, a bunch of keys been passed over, been pointed out which block and level and off you go. Checking out was done by returning the keys to the guardhouse and its done!
To access the lifts, one needs to tap the pass. As there is only one pass, it is a bit inconvenient to pass it around. Good news is there is a friendly guard who is stationed just beside the lifts who will use his pass to operate the lifts for us whenever there is a need.
In the apartment, there is basic amenities. Hot shower, fridge, 4 plates, 4 sets of teacups, metal forks and spoons,simple dining table, single electric stove, kettle, tea towel, bath towels, tv with limited channels and a sofa set. The beds are clean but the floor is a bit dusty. Try to finish whatever food you bought back to the apartment. We found out the hard way when we left some 'kueh' on the dining table and upon returning in the evening, it was infested with ants.
The common toilet was ok though there will be a loud rumbling noise whenever you flush. Light sleepers staying at the bedroom next to it might be woken up should anyone use the toilet in the middle of the night. The master bedroom toilet don't have this problem though. Do bring your toiletries as there isin't any been provided. There is a ceiling fan in the living room and it was pretty airy in the evening with the balcony doors slide open. Air con in the rooms are pretty cold and working fine.
It tends to be noisy in the morning as the pool is situated opposite the block. The pool is clean and crowded with kids. The miniture waterslide at the pool is a hit with kids and one could easilly spend an hour at the pool.
There is a number of eateries around Garden City apartments but did not get to try them out as we drove around malacca city. It is about 10mins drive from mahkota shopping complex but would take longer due to the notorious traffic jam at the area of mahkota. Complimentary parking is available at the apartment. One needs to scan the pass but the guard would gladly help to operate the barrier with his pass. Do take note when parking as there are lots of high kerbs around. I personally witnessed a toyota previa's rear bumper been pulled out due to the proximity of his parking onto the kerb.
Overall would say it is value for money. At Rm460 for an apartment with 3 rooms, what you pay is what you get. It will be inconvenient if you do not drive though.
- bligg (2/5): Well, it's CLEAN! - Yes, the "Malacca Hotel Apartment" is clean. Spotless. And the pool is wonderful.
But those are the ONLY two good points.
For a start, it's not even called "Malacca Hotel Apartment", we only found out it was Garden City apartments after we arrived at the bus terminal and no taxi drivers had ever heard of the place so we called the contact number. Garden City has a reception area but we met the Malacca Hotel Apartment representative at the guard house, which is where we also returned our key. Odd. Very odd.
The apartment (on level 2) looked NOTHING like it did in any of the photos. It is beyond basic: 4 plates, 3 spoons, 4 forks, 4 tea cups. There were no instructions on how to use the weird hot water system, or any tourist information on Malacca.
It's also located a long way from the centre of Malacca and several cab drivers refused to take us into the old part as it was too far.
Avoid.
