Guest Reviews
- Desmond (7/5): This is the perfect place if you any need a roof over your head. - Great value and location. Pool table was broken. Shower wasn't very good.
- Robin (9/5): great for hikers of the grampian peak trail central to everything - great location
- Robin (8/5): Fabulous place for hikers doing the GPT - Cheap cheerful and centre of town Nothing
- veronika (10/5): Loved it - This is a really great place to visit.
The living room, BBQ area, rooms, washrooms are in great condition. Has a piano, books and kids corner, billiard table and some table games. The location, staff, and overall atmosphere are peaceful, reminiscent of the past, and completely Australian.
I would definitely choose it again alone, with friends friends or a family.
Thanks Bar downstairs is currently operating only for functions but there is nice brewery and wooden fire pizza right across the road.

- Lauren (7/5): Quite surprising stay, exceeded our expectations and great location and price. - Very central. Lots of unexpected facilities like pool table, community kitchen, courtyard to eat food. Animal in the roof woke us up (it was 7am so it was fine lol)
- Amanda (2/5): Dont waste your money..the place sgould be condemned - The location was central. The room was pokey with no window the double bed overhung the wall. The communal facilities third world and filthy and there was nowhere clean enough to sit to eat. It is a ramshackle building in a state of disrepair...the builder Tim met us and was at least friendly. We moved somewhere else for the remainder of our stay. Dont be fooled by the photos. See above everything was unsatisfactory.
- Deborah (3/5): - The accom is inside a disused pub which is in a state of disrepair. The room was not clean - it was dusty, smelt musty, and there was mold inside the kettle.
- Jean (10/5): We were very comfortable in our room and had all the conveniences the bed was lovely and soft. - The location we could walk to most restaurants and shops. We could see the value of this property and it’s in the process of being restored but it was very run down on the outside.
- jim (7/5): would stay there again - location was excellent
cost of accommodation was fair
the lounge area was awesome no fresh towels the next day
couldn't find light switch at night to play billiards ( yes i could've called Nora but it wasn't that important)
- Wilton (3/5): Felt eerie and not clean. Photos and google reviews made it seem way better than what it advertised. - No reviews. Photos were not what it’s actually like. Didn’t feel clean. Was loud consistently throughout the night from people walking around and slamming doors. Felt eerie.
- Kymahn (5/5): Needs a lot of work but room fine for short stays - Proximity A bit run down
- Franco (6/5): - Location and standard basic amenities Bed and pillows not firm
- Garrod (10/5): Amongst the Ozzy wildlife - Very convenient and very relaxing convenient parking
- Linda (8/5): - Area Hotel was pretty run down think they were working on it
- Ramkumar (5/5): -
- Jaswinder (8/5): -
- Nolene (1/5): Words can’t explain - Falling apart. Didn’t know they were renovating.
No staff and no reception. Had no idea where to go or how to get in. Thanks to a handy man that was working there help us out tremendously. Nothing falling down
- Robert (4/5): convenient location - Location to the town The place had water damage in the main lounges floors and walls required work where progress looks to have stopped
- HONGCHUAN (10/5): -
- Charmaine (5/5): Fair but needs improvement - Location was great with lots of wildlife and amazing views. Outdoor seating area of the kitchen was private and peaceful when enjoying a meal.
Working shower, suitable beds, plenty of lighting in the rooms. Accommodation and facilities at the tavern needed improvement. Booking for 2 guests, 2 nights:
Half a toilet roll provided for the whole stay, 1 glass and 3 mugs. Dirty sock found under the bed and bin wasnt empty on our arrival. Guest kitchen had not been sorted with bench of stacked dishes, sink with rusted utensils, and dust on surfaces from maintenance works/repairs. Stairway railing to the accommodation on the second floor was unsteady, and garden areas overgrown in walkways. Other guests at the facility would leave coded doors open so the site was not completely secure at the back entrance where we were staying. No working smoke alarm in the guest kitchen. Would be a great place to stay again but needs a little more love and care.
- rob (1/5): un liveable. could not stay! had to find alternative accomodation. - Total lack of ANY staff on site. Limited staff was expected, not zero staff or management (OR other guests and it was a busy weekend!) Toilet did not flush. The fridge had not been stored properly and smelt. Toiletries were inadequate. The promotional photos showed a pristine, high quality facility. The reality was it had been abandoned for quite some time and it showed. The business should not have taken bookings under the circumstances.
- Felix (1/5): A real scam - Never got access to the room, no one answered my many calls
- Vongkeo (7/5): -
- Karyn (10/5): - Staff were exceptionally polite, friendly & very helpful. Price was perfect for my needs. Easy check in/out process
- Gilley (2/5): I’m not sure how this place is allowed to operate like this. I would not reccomend this place to anyone. - Not much to offer here. Good location. There is no staff, no other guests. The place is genuinely abandoned. Grass and plants are overgrown, tables and chairs tipped over. Silverfish and other bugs in our rooms. Gross food left in the kitchen. Very eerie and creepy vibe.
- Sarah (7/5): -
- Corey (3/5): We survived but it could've been better. - It was quiet. Easy access. The bed was on a slant so didn't sleep much. The wifi wouldn't work on our phones. The reason I booked it in the first place is because it had a restaraunt and bar. But they werent operating. But we do understand skeleton staff. The TV played up. Powdered milk. Not enough pillows. The key didn't fit the back door. The steps were broken and weak making it dangerous.
- German guest (6/5): -
- Christine (7/5): - Ok beliggenhed Intet personale
- Abhishek (5/5): Overall good stay apart from cleanliness. - The location is at the center of town centre. walking distance to shops, garden and Indian restaurant. The lookout points are only 20 mins drive from here. Cleanliness was a drawback. It should have been taken care a little bit as basic cleanliness standards were also not met. I won't suggest it for people with young kids.
- Jason (2/5): Room was not cleaned, beds left used from last guest, wet towels left over seats, bins not emptied, staff did not respon -
- ian (4/5): -
- Chinjung (9/5): -
- Karl (10/5): -
- CHAHAL (5/5): -
- Mary (6/5): Excellent location but could use some renovation to bring back former glory. - Location was absolutely perfect, within walking distance of the town centre but still need to have a car to get around. Beds were comfortable and room clean, water pressure in shower was great. Animal wildlife at night was incredible, saw kangaroos, rabbits, deer and even emus the following morning. Seppelt Great Western Winery not far away, many walking/hiking tracks and variety of Waterfalls - we were prepared with walking shoes, etc. Maybe we interrupted the owner/cleaner (?) during preparation of our room, but... It wasn't until late at night when back in the room and preparing to shower and go to bed we noticed there was no handtowels, no bath mat to stand on when getting out of the shower. Booked for 4 people but only had 2 mugs and 2 glasses? Safety bar on top bed bunk needed if child up top (bed higher up than usual), ladder could be best in middle of bed instead of at the foot end. Access to sink water for kettle not possible, require a cup?
- Manoj Varsani (9/5): -
- Fullerton (8/5): -
- Hesham (8/5): - Instructions were clear for late check-in
Check-in was available till 11:30pm No soap or toilet paper in the toilet
Place looks like does need some love.
- Prabakaran (2/5): -
- Irene (5/5): - Location was great, room was ok. We had a bunk bed that was shaky and squeeky where our kids slept, on the second night the bar that holds the wooden planks came off landing in the middle of the night on my other daughter and mum who were sleeping at the bottom bed.
So maybe need if had a little more maintenance for safety reason as if that had landed on my mother or daughters head we will be having a different conversation right now.
And no present staff not even for short while to welcome you thats a little unpersonal
- Harshal (2/5): -
- Kay (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyed my stay - Plenty of space, well equipped kitchen lovely outside eating area, facility clean well kept, park next door kangaroos and Birdlife, close to shops rtc close to hiking area.Friendly manager. Bathroom needs some work.
- Tobias (8/5): Es hat alles gepasst. Super Kommunikation. - Unkomplizierte Buchung und alles wie versprochen.
- Jeff (8/5): -
- van dyk (8/5): -
- Chris (3/5): It is a bit of a ramshackle establishment in need of TLC and elbow grease. Once the renovations are done this place wil - The location was close to the main Halls Gap centre The was no staff in the building and it was less than clean. Our glasses had obviously not been cleaned since the previous occupants. The wine glasses in the common kitchen were located next to the bug spray
- Karen (9/5): -
- tony (8/5): -
- Ali (1/5): - Location was fabulous. I'm not at all convinced the sheets were clean.
The cups were dirty.
No tavern, no restaurant, no fridge nor tv in the room.
Somebody else was given a key to my room so they came in whilst I was out but they informed me of having the same room allocated.
No staff on site to assist.
- TERRY (3/5): Room booked was already occupied - Location Reception
- Marissa (1/5): -
- Simone (7/5): -
- A (6/5): -
- caroline (7/5): Fantastic location and quirky place. - Great location close to the middle of Halls Gap but nicely out of the way. Lovely spaces and nice to have a communal kitchen and outdoor deck to spend time on. Other communal spaces also very welcoming. Room was a little on the small side and it was not possible to fill the kettle from the tap, it needed either glass by glass filling or, a walk to the communal kitchen.
- Gaurav (10/5): -
- Matthew (8/5): -
- Carol (8/5): - Central to town and accommodation affordable and quaint Could have had more crockery, cutlery available
- Megan (7/5): -
- Rob (1/5): we had to go elsewhere - nothing, it was shut and we couldn't get in, the owners agreed to a refund, but we have to go through booking.com and they aren't helping very hard to contact and deal with, booking.com sends me emails I can't reply to and is only offering a pittance of a refund, score of zero to booking.com there was nothing to like
- Barker (10/5): -
- Hosgood (7/5): Excellent location -
- Simboa (7/5): -
- Haley (6/5): Pleasant - The staff went above and beyond and were incredibly helpful. The shared spaces need some work- there is really bad water damage and I was concerned about mould, and our room list power.
- Ernie (3/5): Poor -
- Shannon (2/5): Window covering in bathroom were poor, had to rig up a towel to make teen girls feel comfortable as too half window unco - Window coverings in bathroom were poor, had to rig up a towel to make teen girls feel comfortable, as top half of window uncovered, rotten floor boards at entry, leaking roof in hall way and power going out in room at 10.30pm and having to wake children to move rooms at 12.30am. Emailed manager and said never had a complaint about window (even though you can read reviews here about it) and blamed power outage on powercor when only a couple rooms in different areas lost power and wouldn’t even consider any type reimbursement. If you want very low quality but not even cheap rooms book here! If not I suggest else where. The only upside was the person on site was amazing, the manager/owner of other hand….
- Ron (1/5): Bad -
- Ivy (6/5): Pleasant -
- Debra (7/5): Good - Excellent location. Easy access and parking. Comfortable bed. Very basic accommodation but that is all we paid for so no complaints.
- Walter (4/5): Disappointing - Close to everything There is a problem with the sewerage the room smells terrible had to keep the windows open
- Rhodora (7/5): Good -
- Perry (3/5): Poor - Location Had not received our booking from booking dot com. Still owe me $214 from the previous owner.
- Donna (8/5): Very good -
- Lou (1/5): Terrible and much, much too expensive for such a dump. - Location was the only thing that was ok. Access to room was poor with other people having similar problems. Wonky stairs. Room was very cramped, no heating, no electric blanket, no tv. We froze overnight and couldn’t face having a shower. No outlook. Way overpriced for the pathetic offering. I would like my money back.
- Alexander (3/5): Bewildering!! - what breakfast? lack of staff - we arrived @ 1600. The ONLY staff present was a cleaner/receptionist/etc ie. a single person. She was super efficient, especially since it was her 2nd day. Nothing was open including the reception.
- Rubyaw (8/5): Very good -
- Martin (1/5): DISGUSTING - Nothing, the room had not been cleaned the bed was unmade the towels were dirty with human hair on them. the bin was full of someone's rubbish. didn't even stay there drove an hour away to somewhere that was actually clean. I wouldn't recommend this place to amyone
- Robyn (7/5): Friendly and comfortable great location - Amazing location walking distance to the shops and restaurants and Grampians hikes There is a lot of renovation going on and the pub part was closed due to this but in time it will be a valuable asset to Halls Gap
- Troy (3/5): Poor -
- Deborah (4/5): Disappointing - Central location Needed maintenance
- Phuoc (1/5): Bad - Nothing Owner didnt tend to help us to get a refund back.
Worker built something in the backyard in the morning and it was so loud.
It takes forever to get warm water for showering
- Hiral (7/5): Over all good. Except no internet. - Location and early check in and late check out. No wifi connection throughout the stay.
- Yun (8/5): Very convenient location. - It is a shared room, with public toilet. Because the hotel is all full, thus I have to choose this one. As for the CP value, it is ok.
- Linda (10/5): Peaceful - I had a lovely peaceful stay. The manager was very kind and friendly
- Bruno (9/5): Superb -
- Susannah (1/5): I did not stay as the place seemed deserted - It looked deserted I had not received an email to give instruction about entry although one had been sent, this was partly because of a change of email. However the place looked deserted and a motel nearby told me that he thought they had closed down so I went and stayed somewhere else.
- Vikramjit (5/5): Passable - Location, owner was responsive Ac was weak, ac remote battery was down, bathroom basin tap was too tight in room 4 and water kept dipping
- Vivien (7/5): Ok - We received code or pin to access our room. Room is cleaned, bed is comfy. Good water flow. We have had a good rest. Although no staff in the building, we can communicate with staff via SMS. Small room. Half finished new bathroom (no hook, no towel racks, no blind, refurbishment still in progress) , no chair in the room. Communal kitchen is not cleaned. Outdoor tables and chairs are not cleaned, thick dust.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bev (8/5): Very good -
- Abdul (1/5): DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY. You will be disappointed later. - Don’t waste your time poking with this property, you will be disappointed. Very poor and irresponsible customer service
- Kaylene (7/5): Good -
- Yules (5/5): Passable - Good location, and kitchen facilities. It does need a bit of renovation and other guests need to be reminded on accommodation rules.
- Garcia (2/5): Very poor -
- Gayle (3/5): Poor -
- Irma (5/5): Passable - Staff very friendly and helpful, great job Carlos, tried his best. Location is the best! Just wishing all the best to the owners we try to support local businesses. The place looks a bit abandoned.
