- Lyn (10/5): - Romantic, clean and quiet
- Lee (10/5): - This property blew me away and I absolutely cannot fault it at all. Everything was just perfect the cottage was so clean so warm so cozy my partner and I have never felt so relaxed. The spa and the open fireplace was pure bliss. The grounds of the property are so well kept and maintained so much work has gone into this whole property absolutely perfect if you're looking for a relaxing weekend away this is the place to be fern Cottage was perfect. There is absolutely not one thing that I could say that I didn't like about this place.
- Miriam (10/5): - Beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean in lovely garden setting. Highly recommended.
- Bhupinder (10/5): Romantic location that you could ever imagine - Everything, cant fault anything. Privacy, access, facilities and location Nothing to fault
- Maryann (10/5): The cottage was perfect for our short stay. We will certainly recommend to others for future stays - The property was private, peaceful, clean and beautifully presented.
- Timothy (10/5): - Lovely cottage, very clean with terrific facilities. The breakfast pack was excellent and very thoughtful.

- Racquel (10/5): Was the most beautiful and relaxing space ever. - The whole atmosphere and the layout of the house and the grounds/gardens were amazing and resort like feeling. The space was magical, romantic and beautiful N/A
- Kerry (8/5): Cosy cottage in a gorgeous part of outer Melbourne. - Gorgeous location, lovely gardens, nice breakfast basket, cosy cottage with spa and kitchen facilities. Very comfortable bed. Because of the open wood fire there is a strong smell of smoke in the cottage that hangs in the curtains. We didn’t have a fire, but the woodsmoke smell was still very present. There were workers doing construction in the gardens when we were there, working very early which was disturbing.
- Ashleigh (9/5): Perfect location, cozy and small but exactly what you need for a short getaway. - The location was wonderful and we slept like a dream, the bed was super comfy. Loved the spa bath and the bathroom was a great size too. Perfet location, we seemed to be within 10 mins from everything! all the tissue boxes were empty and there were no bin bags left when we took out the rubbish. Also the lights outside didnt work so we had to use our phone torches to guide the way in the dark which was a bit scary. There also wasnt a lot of kindling for the fire left in any of the wood boxes which was a disappointing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing location, great cabin nice layout with beautiful landscape gardens
- Karen (10/5): A haven for couples in love - Our stay was for our anniversary, my birthday and Valentines day combined. What an amazing experience we had. First of all Emelia and Karen were amazing with our booking and directions as well as tips on where to dine.
The atmosphere when we entered the cottage was awesome. Greeted by nature sounds and scents. Gorgeous hardwood floors and spotlessly clean rooms we could not have been happier.
A huge four poster bed and double spa room was to die for.
They truly have thought of everything and we have vowed to go back yearly. Highly recommended for couples.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great relaxing atmosphere
Quiet location
However cottage has very strong smell of smoke throughout
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing such a relaxing place to getaway ! Close to everything beautiful fire place great spa , just perfect definitely be back !!
- Malcolm (10/5): - The property was charming, well appointed with a lovely garden and a pleasant ambience.
- Jess (10/5): - Cute, quiet cottage close to everything Mt Dandenong has to offer, great for a bit of R&R. 10/10 would stay again
- Maria (10/5): Honeymoon Suites - OMG as soon as we walk in we fall in love with everything, we even said will buy it, anything you ask for is in the room plus extras like heated towel rail, robe and two shower heads, my partner and I showered peacefully lol, we set the water how hot we like it and the spa oh my, candles around the tub, these people think of everything. And the fireplace wow to die for, we love sitting infront of it cuddling up, drinking champagne, so romantic, and the poster bed wow reminds us of our old bed suite bring back memories.
- Pamela (10/5): Absolutely stunning - Totally enjoyed our stay st Forest Edge. Anything you could think of was thought of. Totally relaxing space. Beautiful setting, luxurious accommodation and great breakfast.
Would definitely stay there again though for much longer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice cottage convenient to Maria Island ferry - This was a good value for a nice clean room. The staff person w waa s also very helpful.
- Jenny (6/5): Disappoinment - We have stayed in many hotels around the world and I have never been negative about any of them. You get what you pay for and we always take that into account.
This place however was a huge disappointment considering the price paid.
We only booked it because of its proximity to a wedding we attended. When we arrived there were no staff, we had no idea how to access our room and there were keys that you had to know the code to before you could use them.
We rang a number but was told she no longer managed the place, rang another number, which was not answered. There had been no communication to us via txt, email etc. When finally we were rung back we were told to go back to Sassafras to checkin. The checkin place was in a shipping container with no signage and we were asked to pay a bond. At this point we had half an hour to get to the wedding.
Finally when in the tiny room in the house we noticed the glass shower in a corner of the room. Luckily the toilet had a tiny tiny room of its own. Even what should have been a lovely view was marred by what looked like a heap of rubbish!
Even the so called breakfast was not on the premises but back in the town. Luckily that was good. We were told that the place had been sold and was in transition between owners . My advice to the new owners would be to sack the current management company and do it themselves or get someone better.
We made the wedding just! Very disappointing!
- Phil (10/5): Very Cosy Cottage in the Dandenongs - We had a very enjoyable over nite stay in Forest Edge Cottage, which was a Free Upgrade from the Deluxe Spa Suite that we had booked. Everything had been thought of to make our stay as comfy as possible, even the fire was set ready to light when we arrived there. I thought it was a shame the fireplace was a bit smoky-it made the room smell of smoke (but maybe the wood was a bit damp) although it burnt quite well anyway. The bed was comfortable, plenty of hot water for the Spa and very Private bush type setting.
We would recommend Merrow Cottages to anyone who needs a quiet getaway - it was Excellent !!
- Mark (4/5): So disappointed - My wife and I stayed in the deluxe spa suite for the last part of our honeymoon... to say we were disappointed is an understatement. The room smelled of smoke and as soon as we tried to light the open fire we realised why.. the wood was wet so wouldn't light properly and smoke started billowing into the room as the fire damper wouldn't stay open. The bath robes & towels didn't smell too clean, there were no organic products in the bathroom as stated, plenty of candle holders but no candles which didn't really matter anyway as there were only 2 dead matches !! .. and the list goes on . Things like kettle didn't work, fridge wasn't cold for champagne not even a bin to put rubbish in...... I must say the bed was comfortable. We paid a premium price after reading all the positive reviews and expected far more for the price. We feel we received just common motel facilities at the premium price. It seems that since the owners went overseas and put the property on the market and in the hands of agents, everything has gone downhill. The special things that make it an experience have all gone. It's a real shame as it's a beautiful property in lovely surroundings but we won't be going back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - FIVE STARS! Just loved the place!
Enjoyed walking in the bushes as well!
- Tanvi (8/5): Nice place for a weekend getaway - We ended up booking this last minute for the weekend and enjoyed our stay. It was comfortable and close to Sky High Mount Dandenong.
- Michelle A (2/5): Not happy Jan! - The room was not what you see on the photos on their website. Toiletries are to be reused by all people staying there (Not small bottles for single use). No heat control in room so we had to put up with the temperature they set it for. Had to park quite a distance from the room. Photos showed a open fire in the lounge but this was not in all cottages. The shower was in the same room as the bed. No privacy at all. Would not go back there to stay again. Would not recommend to our family or friends either.
- Jennifer (10/5): Beautiful cottage, everything you could want. - Quiet, romantic place. Stunning decor and beautiful surroundings. We loved it.
- David (10/5): Nice romantic getaway in the mountains - For value for price, this little retreat tucked away in the mountains is so worth your while. I scoured the area for the best places near Mount Dandenong and the Yarra Valley, and this place offers value far and above everywhere else, and the cottages are so nice. We stayed in the Gateway Cottage, and it was amazingly charming and intimate. We loved the character of the cottage, and the fact that it had a double shower and a huge bathtub for two looking out into lush gardens was of course a perk. With the capacity to make a cooked breakfast along with freshly made bread in the morning made it even better. It was super cozy both for a summer or winter getaway, and it's a great launchpad near Olinda. The only downside with the cottages is that neither my wife or I had cell reception, and the cottages don't have Wifi (though the apartments in the main building do), but this might be right up your alley. Would definitely stay again.
- njuu (10/5): A Dandenong ranges sensation - Gotta say, first time we had booked into a B&B & being our 30th wedding anniversary, was not really sure what to expect, however having read other comments, sounded like the choice to opt for in going for a relaxing weekend away. Just need to totally commend May & Daniel for the absolutely homey feel - nothing left to chance - awesome enthusiastic characters, great conversations & listening to what they have set themselves out to achieve and are fullfilling their dream, we wish them many more visitors to experience their warmth, gracious hospitality & genuine country life style.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cosy intimate cottage - Beautiful cottage in a forest setting, would have been better and more ambient if fireplace was lit (not able to do so due to total fire ban). We were only informed of total fire ban when we got there (temp was in 20's). Spa was great!
- Veeresh (10/5): Hi FIVE! - Great location, staff very friendly.
- Sallie (10/5): Tranquillity - Our stay at Merrows Cottages was for an anniversary, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate. Set beautifully in Mt Dandenong, our little cottage (Forest Edge) was very tranquil and romantic. Perfect for a weekend away.
- James (10/5): Beautiful scenery and amazing hosts - We stayed in the forest view room to celebrate our anniversary, the room, the beautiful gardens and the service were all incredible.
The fresh baked bread really is amazing, and Maj and Daniel are just lovely people to be around and always helpful. We will definitely be coming back.
- steven (10/5): Nice and peaceful - Great hospitality very welcoming, bed very comphy. Room was great spa was Good and Good size to relax in.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Maj and Daniel were wonderful hosts. Can highly recommend staying here. We actually stayed in one of the rooms, not the cottages.
- Richard (10/5): Beautiful and cosy, a definite must stay! - We stayed at Merrow Cottages the night of our engagement, Maj (the host) upgraded our room as they were fairly empty and made a special effort to make us comfortable and make the stay memorable, she even cooked us a delicious breakfast the morning after and all of this was before she knew we had just gotten engaged! One of the most friendly and welcoming places I have ever stayed at with beautiful surroundings which Maj and her husband have renovated themselves after taking over ownership 5 years ago. The surroundings were so beautiful and relaxing, the views were amazing from the second story balcony and the room was immaculate! There was complimentary tea, coffee and port and fantastic French toiletries available in the huge bathroom. The setting was amazing and made a special night even more amazing! I would definitely recommend Merrow Cottages to anyone wanting a peaceful, beautiful and relaxing place to stay and it is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. Out of 10 I would give Maj and Merrow Cottages a 15 :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great getaway - Beautiful spot. Comfortable and romantic with plenty of nice touches. Highly recommend
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great stay, we had a lovely experience amongst the mountain air and tall trees ☺☺
- Michelle (10/5): Absolutely wonderful! - We really enjoyed our romantic little get away! We enjoyed it so much that we quickly jumped back online and booked an extra night. The hosts were lovely and everything was not a problem at all. The spa, king size bed and fireplace just screamed luxury and relaxation. Definitely would come back!
- ilker and nalan (10/5): - Wonderful experience, will go back..it was so relaxing. Home made bread is provided and the cottages are clean and tidy
Don't know what else to write and this thing is forcing me to..enough i say! Enough
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect romantic weekend getaway - Perfect romantic weekend getaway.
Fantastic hospitality, amazing breakfast. Highly recommended
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Booked this place as it was close to the venue of a wedding I was attending at Tatra Receptions. It's only about 350 metres away, so about 7 mins walk. It's in a lovely bush setting. We stayed in the Lyrebird Room which comes with an attached bathroom. Toiletries are provided, as well as cutlery (plates, forks, wine glasses, etc). There is an upstairs terrace where you can have breakfast/lunch with a pleasant view, especially when the weather is nice. Maj cooks bacon and eggs on toast in the morning in the family room (so be prepared to look presentable for breakfast, as it's not delivered to your room), and Daniel chimes in to provide conversation.
- Erin (8/5): Home away from home - Maj and her family are wonderful hosts. We got upgraded as the night we stayed at the cottages were not full. The property has lots of homeliness and personal charm.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful cottage, tucked away in the Dandenongs. - From the moment we were welcomed to the kind farewell on departure, everything was perfect. The smell of freshly baked bread as we opened the door to the gatehouse was like coming home. Every detail is taken care of. The fire is ready to light. The ingredients for breakfast is ready for making. Even a lovely port on the mantle is considered and done. I will be back as soon as I can.
- Paul (10/5): Great B&B for a romantic getaway. - Great B&B. Definitely going back at some stage. The bigger rooms are far better so spend the extra to really enjoy this one.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely setting excellent and knowegable hosts rooms clean and tidy
- tim and vivian (10/5): Secluded cottage environment - Great experience in the spacious Spa room. The bedroom was huge and tastefully decorated with the French flair of the owner.
Whilst the weather outside was raining we enjoyed an evening drinking wine in front of our own wood fire in the bedroom.
Loved it.
Breakfast was also included in the price, a detail in the price I wasn't even aware of. Great experience chatting to the owners over breakfast Fantastic people who make a great deal of effort to welcome you into their home.
- Leonie (10/5): Beautiful B&B - We felt very welcome from the beginning and adored our overnight stay.
Our room was very private and comfortable, the bed was comfy and luxurious. Our hosts were attentive and made us feel very special.
A special place to visit and enjoy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stunning bed and breakfast in a great location. - True hospitality in every sense of the word. We checked in 1 hour before a wedding event. The hostess was kind enough to iron my shirt for me!
Waking up to a fantastic cooked breakfast and fresh coffee.
Shame we only had one day!

- Tarina & Peter (10/5): Beautiful location. - Our stay was peaceful and relaxing. Daniel & Maj made us so welcome and were very friendly and helpful. Our room in the B&B was clean and fresh and beautifully decorated, and we felt spoilt with our home cooked breakfast. A lovely get away which we will hopefully get to do again. Highly recommended.

- Amy (10/5): Romantic getaway - My husband and I enjoyed the weekend getaway and will defiantly be back! The service and privacy was excellent and would recommend it to anyone who will listen.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cosy Cottage in The Dandenongs - Lovely relaxing cottage in The Dandenongs. Her friendly nature and delightful French accent made the picturesque location seem even more enchanting. The room (Forest Edge) was impeccably appointed and very clean. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay, falling asleep in the soft bed to the gentle hiss of the crackling fire. Thanks for a lovely weekend!
