Guest Reviews
- bronwynh281 (2/5): Not great - I would not recommend this place. I booked the courtesy bus for 6.45. I rang at 7pm, then at 7.15 again. The bus driver went to the wrong place to pick us up. Was over 35mins late. Swore, was rough. No manners. I asked the bus driver when the last bus would be. He said 11, to 11.30. He would get us home, no worries. There was no welcome at the bar, until we said we finally made it. We received a first free drink. I booked a table, (same time l booked the bus)for 2. No booking. Told to sit where we want. Very casual. There was a fight in bar area. Pool table over turned while we were trying to eat our dinner. 3 police cars to attend to that. Meal was only just. Later i asked a male staff member about getting the courtesy bus to take us home just before 10pm, he said, "bus has been parked for night so no bus" l said, oh ok. Very disappointing in how you the staff run this business. Very unprofessional. Knowing that we caught the bus there, you could have asked your patrons if they needed a lift home before you put the bus away!!! Will not be recommending this place of business to anyone. Not even a goodbye when we left, no thank you. Nothing. More training of staff needed here. Management, step up!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff were extremely friendly and helpful
- leupould (10/5): Great old school pub - We’ve been going to the Oonoonba pub for years now - I think the secret it out as it’s getting busier and busier each week we go for our treat night out.
We’ve dined everywhere in TSV and always come back to the Oonoonba pub as the staff are friendly and the food is amazing. Every Thu, Fri and Sat they have chef specials - not just your regular mass-produced pub grub, these meals are supercharged with amazing flavours and sauces. You can tell the chef and kitchen crew cook with love.
A big shout out to Jules - she’s a hospitality superstar. The kids love her for the special ice cream treat after tea. In fact all of the staff go above and beyond.
We love our local and will continue to support them.
Do yourself a favour and give them a go - you won’t be disappointed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A reasonably priced room which was clean & comfortable. However you are staying next to a not so desirable hotel, so expect some noise.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - we stayed 3 nights & I must say that the bed & pillows were verrrrrrrrrrrrry comfortable & clean as was the rest of the room & ensuite. The staff were extremely friendly but it was a little noisy occasionly as it is near a train line. This in itself didn't bother us & we would stay there again if needed. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who would like to stay in a clean environment at a budget price. meals were available at the hotel at reasonable prices but we didn't use this service.
- janovicl (8/5): Excellent for the price!!!!! - We stayed 3 nights at this hotel/motel & were pleasantly surprised with the room...
It was very clean & met all of our requirements & I must say the bed was verrrrrrrry comfortable. There were meals available at the hotel also if needed... It was a little noisy as it is right near a train line & the rooms are at the back of the hotel. This didn't bother us any though. I think it is a very reasonably priced hotel/motel & we would definately recommend it to anyone.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Suit our needs accessible to the stadium and convenient store and take away
- DawnMarg (8/5): Nice Quiet Atmosphere On A Monday Night - Nice service and two good meals; pan fried barramundi with lovely vegetables and seafood linguini. We appreciated the 10% discount for seniors. Both meals only cost $40.50 in total and a beer cost $4.20
- Thetouringaussie (2/5): NOISE! - We are staying for business to rest up before we have to drive 7hrs down the road just to start work tonight and from 8am (on a Saturday night I add) maintenance have been drilling and hammering outside our room. We called to mention it to the hotel and ask how long he might be but this seemed to have just upset him and made him louder.
This motel is really far out of the city as well so you may as well save your $80-$120 and stay at a motel with more professional and considerate service that is closer to amenities.
Rooms are clean and beds were pretty comfortable I will say. You get a microwave and fridge and all that jazz which is pretty convenient.
- Brian (6/5): Comfortable room but too noisy - Although quite small, the room was renovated and comfortable. The bathroom however was not finished and the toilet water ran continuously. The appliances were adequate.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Feedback - For winter there was only a sheet and light blanket on bed. No heating in room. Very noisy from bar goers and some trucks pulling up in middle of the night. Lights outside meant little sleep also, curtains did not cover whole window to block out street light.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Friendly motel - Really happy with the staff nice that there’s a pub connected to it open until 12. Best bakery up the street had it for breakfast lunch and dinner. Room was ok massive spiderweb in the room and spiders everywhere you looked lucky we didn’t have a phobia
- NarelleT584 (10/5): Lunch - 12 choices for $12 - 7 days a week. I had Thai Beef Salad- it was delicious. My husband had a steak sandwich with chips which he said was amazing. Lovely dining room, cold beer. It is one of my favourite pubs to eat at.
- N6842PKjanetp (6/5): Good lunch - The meals were nice and the portions were a good size. Typical pub grub. The dining room was lovely, modern and clean and had a kids play area. Service was good, timely and friendly. We would go back for another meal.
- kevinjD1186XH (8/5): Sunday lunch - Had the boat salmon , nicely seared , loved the salad and lemon sauce that came with it not too big of a portion , just the right size . Didn't have to wait too long even though there was a bit of a crowd . Nice friendly staff, hard to fault . Very enjoyable lunch
- donnaflee (6/5): Pretty average - Went for a meal with my husband for something different we went to try again the Oonoonba Pub. Hubby had the chicken party which he said was good and I had the Angus Rump Steak. Now I don’t know what happened to this cow but the steak was so tough that in places I couldn’t even stick my fork in to cut it. I always thought that angus beef was suppose to be good steak, this one wasn’t. Maybe you guys need to change your butcher coz for $28 I would think it should have just melted.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good overnight spot. Nice to have on suite.thank you
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good Value - Nothing flash, but neat littles rooms, plenty of off street parking, good value for a bunk for a night, bed was comfy, all the necessities.
- shrelled (10/5): Lunch - We had a lovely Chicken Snitzel with chips and Salad and Steak Snitzel with chips and Salad both with mushroom sauce. Hot and freshly cooked. The serving was of a generous size. We did not have to wait long before our meal arrived. Delicious.
- Edward (6/5): Convenient via stop. Well priced. - Close to city of Townsville. We were stopping on our way to Atherton Table lands.
- stevegP9730DI (8/5): A diamond in the rough. - From the outside it just looks like an ordinary suburban pub. On the inside not much different, but order a meal and the whole thing changes. We (as a family) have visited several times and the meals are sensational. They have a 12 meals for $12 menu and also a la carte choices. Ice cream and games for the kids, Well worth the stop. Oh yeah, the beer is always cold.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Definitely not what the photos show - This hotel was nothing like the pictures. Upon arrival we had no idea where to check in and were finally served at the bar and told to see the manager who was behind the second door right down the back of the bistro room behind what looked like a dead door. We knocked on the door and the manager asked if we had a booking. I told him my name and he said oh yes you're in room 5 but then asked if I had confirmation of the booking.... i tried getting it up on my phone whilst he stood right next to me looking at my phone the whole time which I think is quite rude. There was no service in the area so I couldn't get the email up. He ended up saying oh well I guess I'll believe you. Upon entering the room it was incredibly small with only the absolute bare minimum i.e. a bed shower toilet very very small tv and bar fridge. There were no extra blankets and only two pillows. The bed was suprisingly very comfortable though. There was also no phone coverage. While the hotel wasn't horrible it definitely wasn't what was described on the website and was a bit overpriced for what it was.
- PeteGYeppoonQld (10/5): Visit during V8 Supercars. - Was looking for reasonably cheap accommodation for the V8 Supercars weekend. This hotel had not jacked up its prices got three weekend. Basic simple rooms, but very clean and the staff were helpful. The meals available were top class and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything provided for overnight stay.Room was a good size and comfortable.
- Tony (6/5): Just an overnighter - Place is a little noises, trains and truck and its part of the pub.
Could do with a refresh, but it's clean, pub meals are good.
- Jason (6/5): - I left a week early & they keep the money. Didn't offer an return of days not used. Unbelievable
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic pub and older rooms but for my purposes OK - Older rooms, basic facilities but for what I wanted was adequate.
Meals at the pub were good.
Represents value for money compared to other motels
My stay was for the V8 racing so not a lot of time spent in the room
Staff were friendly and service was great.
Convenient to have the facilities of the pub right outside the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and tidy a biasic hotel - Staff were very good I only needed a bed and a shower with paying the earth . It was fine for me .
- DrogueChute (8/5): GREAT prices - no nonsense facilities - The Hotel has 8 motel style rooms out the back of the pub. Each room has good basic facilities including en-suite bathroom, microwave, toaster, kettle etc. I chose this Hotel for the fact the price is right AND it is away from the 'trendy' areas. I do not need swimming pools, views, and other 'frills' and I object to paying the extortionalte prices hotelliers seem to think is justified these days. There is excellent parking at the back of the Pub which is well lit at night. The area seemed to be low threat. A small amount of bar noise can be heard sometimes during peak periods, and occasionally the train line and highway may be heard. The Hotel has good meals (lunch dinner only) There is a small shopping centre easy walking distance nearby (100M) A cheap and cheerful place with comfortable beds and good air-conditioned rooms separate from the main hotel building.
- townsviile (2/5): Rude female manager - We would eat there twice a week buy from the bottle shop play pokies and had a good time until the new manager and staff started. Rude bar service food shoking had to wait 90 minutes for our dinner when complained she said dont come back again. Amazing as we would of spent around$400 a week there. MMany locals have also stopped going the the place.
- terryb952 (2/5): BLS - Lowest joint in town! Used to be a punters pub..now caters fir noisy rock bands etc. arrogantly.closes off the tote and sky facilities without notice and fills the bar with amplifiers and gear when there is ample room outback.badly needs sone oppisution. Motel rooms obviuosly noisy and woukdnt stay there for quids. besides pub is in centre if one of worst crime precincts in townsville.
- FIONA (8/5): -
- Zed (10/5): -
They offer to give me room 7, it was empty and further away from road and trains
- Jillian (8/5): - Facilities: Nice ; Value: Economical; Service: Basic; Cleanliness: Pleasant;
- Ralph (6/5): - Facilities: Modest; Value: Over-priced; Service: Amateur; Cleanliness: Lovely;
- Kp00 (10/5): Great Food, great service! - Haven't stayed in the Motel, but can thoroughly recommended the restaurant, being locals, we have dined there on several occasions, it has a terrific Family friendly atmosphere , & with the daily "special" prices, it makes for an extremely affordable evening out
