Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Furniture faulty looks like it came from the flood zone ,could not get the TV to work no remote,Window blinds fully, bathroom fan very noisy and not able to turn off the bin rusted and no working lift and being over 80 with problems hard work.on the bright side the young lady from the bar who has a gran in Port Macquarie don't know her name was wonderful thanks paid $139 worth much less was clean other wise we would have left.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room condition was dated, the cupboard was hanging off and the television didn’t have a remote and wasn’t working, the bathroom was clean and tidy, the position of the hotel was great
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice pub, centrally located with great staff. Room was spacious with clean modern bathroom providing a good hot shower. Room furnishings were damaged and TV remote was missing (so unable to operate) staff apologised and indicated it would
Be attended to. Otherwise a good stay. Will return again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The Corona bottle top on the bathroom floor was equal with a previous guests bar of soap on the bath edge. Yuk. A pity that there was no wardrobe just a freestanding rack.. Also a pity that the TV didn't work because the remote control batteries were flat. Also a pity that the stair and corridor carpets had seen a vacuum cleaner in weeks! Even the handrail was dusty. Never again...and at the price, I am a fool to have gone!
- Teresa J (8/5): Some TLC needed for a comfortable stay - Stayed Sat O/N, friendly staff, good rooms except they are far too close to the deafeningly loud music venue which boomed on until midnight across the corridor. Bathrooms have loud fans which stay on all night with or without light, bathroom’s main light was not working and cupboard door had fallen off in one room, no chair in the other. Rec some TLC.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - If I was the manager and try to develop more with accommodation then I would hire proper cleaner or at least who can clean more properly.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Would definetly not recommend staying over. restaurant and bar quite good but the room, particularly the shower, was very dirty and quite smelly. The ac was not working and was offered a fan. This was enough for the nights but the heat was unbearable in the day. Right next to our room there was an event room with a dj playing one night, was very very loud. Quite dissapointed with the room, staff did apologize.
- Geoff (4/5): Dirty - The bathroom was dirty and had not been cleaned. The sheets were cha need on the bed however there was long hairs on the benches. No TV remote and the cupboard doors were broken
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff are lovely and helpful. Beds are rock hard. Rooms a bit run down, paint peeling, carpet stains, broken fixtures and blinds that don’t cover the windows properly. Won’t be staying again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room had a really bad smoke smell, and the bathroom was not clean at all. It smelt like urine and we had to clean the shower before using it because there was urine all over the shower floor. The air conditioner didn’t work and there was only a small window so it was really hot and stuffy. There was rubbish under the bed and behind the bedside tables.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Spacious room with comfortable queen bed and pillows. Friendly, helpful staff. However was very noisy and the bathroom was not very clean
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I liked the fact the it was central to everything. Staff were fantastic.
- Kira (4/5): - Bring your cleaning wipes. Everything was sticky and you could feel the slime on the bathroom tiles. There were spill marks on the walls and brown fluid leaking from the fridge.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It was not good experience, not good room comfort and not so cleaned , the water flask was very bad .
- Henry (6/5): Could have been better. - Not the best stay, room not ready, had chase up twice for towels, no cups for tea etc, shower area needs a good clean. No remote for tv, had to chase up. Bed ok, air con.
good. Lady from the bar area was very helpful and cheerful. Location ok, meal at the pub was excellent.
Did not see manager after check in! Would i stay again. No, they need to be more professional.
- mwae (6/5): - Staff were really friendly, gave good instructions and directions. Ok for one night. There is massive construction going on at the moment. Didn't realise there was a bar downstairs so you could hear the thumping music till pretty late. The milk and biscuits were expired and the windows couldn't close properly so the rain beat in. There's also no free parking till after 5pm. However, the location was excellent. Close to food & walkable to most of the major attractions.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very noisey with patrons leaving the pub at close time, middle of the night woken up by someone collecting recycling (Beer bottles I suspect) from bins in the carpark, gardener arrived and started using a blower in the carpark at 6:45am. Bathroom was dirty and common areas were smelly. I’ve stayed here before years ago and was impressed with it then but it needs a renovation, even the pub area looks run down. Food was good in the restaurant though.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was great. Friendly staff, huge clean room and bathroom, excellent location near to so many eateries, but the room was really quiet. Great value. We would definitely stay again.
- Ben (6/5): - The spa bath was definitely the best thing about this place. However it didn’t seem like it had been cleaned properly as there was some funky juice in the fridge and I found an old cookie wrapper behind the bed side table. No bin In the toilet and no hand towels... Other than that the staff were very helpful and friendly and even offered us one of their staff parking spots as there was no all day parking near by. Good vibes downstairs too if that’s your thing.
- Rhinda (8/5): - Great location , spacious and clean room, white linen... couldnt ask for more !!.
- Sid (10/5): - The Manager made an effort to find us a room, after I booked the wrong weekend!
Even got us into the pub/restaurant for dinner. Thanks Josh, I think.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - When we checked in, the room wasn't clean from the night before. Bed unmade, beer bottles and coffee cups around the room, bin hadn't been changed and towels on the bathroom floor.
- Nico (6/5): Below average - The spa bath plug doesn't fit the plug hole correctly so all the water drains away. This is the main feature and tbh the bathroom is the only appeal to this room. Asking staff if they had a plug that would fit which they didn't have any alternative options to fix the issue.
Cleaners had run out of bath towels so we we're given the last bath towel they could find and spare bath mats to dry ourselves on 2nd day.
Air con isn't great takes a very very long time to kick in and a fan is provided but it is extremely noisy.
Bugs in the drawers kinda of of like a beatle/Coch roach. As far as it states in the advert, it offers a mini bar but actually all you get is Tea, coffee, milk and some mini cereal bags not much of a selection.
No cutlery provided, but okay with regards to glasses and cups.
The bedhead is broken, pillows very uncomfortable so I didn't get a good sleep, and the TV is extremely old and not and due for an upgrade.
Bar staff were very polite and friendly on the bar on arrival and helped us to our room with some cocktails we ordered.
- Stephen (6/5): Venue Ok, amenities not so good. - Venu was good, as it is a pub with food and drink options. Room was ok when I first arrived, a little basic and tired though.
Room was clean although the amenities were a little less to be desired.
You can’t fill the kettle properly as it was too large to fit under the tap! There were no plug sockets to plug the kettle in, near the fridge/drink station. So had to plug the kettle in on the other side of the room. In the small fridge, there were no milk cartons, just a schooner glass from the bar, half filled with milk, left there for guests use!
- Abmusten (6/5): - Good size room with a/c. But ensuite was not clean. Long hair near wc and mould and soap scum on tiles and grout in shower. Tired furniture with chair armrests looking like they had been chewed at.
- AM (4/5): - Room was not clean.
Toilet was leaking.
Air con worked well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It’s was on Darby street where we are having dinner
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great location. Friendly staff.
Cleaning substandard. No spare toilet paper and air conditioner worked poorly. Stated had free parking. Not available
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Can't expect too much from pub accomodation but;
tea and coffee but no milk, not even the long life stuff and when I asked the staff, told to go to the corner store to purchase some; in fairness, they did provide tea spoons when asked; no spare toilet roll - we didn't ask for a back up; no tissues; to plug the bedside lamp in you have to move the bed; the clock radio is only an ornament because there is no power plug; one light in bathroom out; toilet seat broken; bed throw had some frightening stains; room is not serviced over multiple night stays; but otherwise, overpriced but good location. Come on Newcastle you can do better.
- Kristelle (6/5): Hotel Delaney Review - Hotel was clean but the bed was lumpy & the pillows were too soft.
Also there was only 1 roll of toilet paper available. Friendly service though.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hot water took a while to come through. Pub downstairs so a bit loud on Saturday nights. Great location. Comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice property, very clean and modern. Would recommend it.
After taking some time to check in, I was given the wrong room key. Was corrected after I went back to the check in area, not a major problem but a bit of a nuisance at the time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Came down for a work trip and enjoyed being able to have a wine after a long day at the bar downstairs. Staff were really lovely happy and helpful .😄👍
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Bed was made but coffee cups, full bins , food in fridge and used towel in room when I checked in.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good pub, good location near cafes and restaurants etc.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Central location, nice deep large spa.
Bit bright in morning, blinds lets light around sides.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - all good a little noisy but we expected that. staff friendly, food great try there pepperoni pizza!
- Clinton (8/5): Perfect for what I needed - I was here for an all weekend event. Hardly needed the room apart from sleeping. Great location for eateries nearby. It’s definitely no frills but I’d stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location is awesome..beer options excellent...no compaints
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room is standard, the bathroom stinks of mould, the ceiling vents are putrid and there are broken towel rails. We were kept awake by external air conditioning systems and then finally shaken awake at 6:45 by the pubs rubbish removal truck slamming a dumpster of glass into their truck. Never stay here again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location is great. Its on Darby St. 50 characters is annoying lastminute
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I was quite disappointed in how clean our room was. Overall it was OK but the bathroom looked like it hadn't had a proper clean in ages, there was dried blood on the bathroom door, half toilet roll for a 2 night stay and the bath and shower had soap scum all over it. I knew being a being a hotel it wasn't going to be as good as a motel but I still it expected not to have to feel like I needed to wear my shoes in the bathroom.
- Lois (8/5): - The property was in a perfect location for us. Parking was a slight issue in both the afternoon and later in the evening but we were lucky both times. Around midnight there was some very noisy glass bottle removal in the carpark area at the back of the hotel outside our room (we were up on the first floor) but that is to be expected with a pub.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - On site parking. Good on site Resturant.
The spa bath had no support handles and as such I was unable to use it.
- Penny (8/5): Clean and comfy but advertising a little misleadin - Room was clean and comfy. Advertising was a little misleading as booking a Queen room with Spa Bath but it is only a Double bed with Shower only and no bath. A little noise of a night time as it was Saturday night and above a pub.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A bit noisy but to be expected on a Saturday, especially with a function.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location in Darby st within walking distance to variety of eateries
- TMAX (8/5): - Great stay other than 2x light bulbs on side tables were blown & for some reason the heater wouldn't increase above 18... so a cool night was had.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was everything it promissed to be - clean, friendly staff, excellent service, good location, etc.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff were lovely , but I was extremely disappointed when i booked for a spa but did not get it , I was disappointed that the bathroom was not clean there was a toe nail on the floor the moment we walked in . Nothing like the photos that are online.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was close to everything. I found the staff members to be extremely helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location - very close to great restaurants, bars, cafes and beach! And the excellent service they consistently provide.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved how clean it was and the staff were friendly
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It’s location to where we had to go the hotel and staff were excellent reastrant meal was great, however the bed could do with a new mattress the carpet in the room was badly stained and the shower could have been a little cleaner.but for a hotel room it was quite .
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No Wi-Fi in rooms and air conditioning not working
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location is great, the pub food is great. Staff pleasant. Room was small and the blind was broken, air conditioning was fair, could hear the music and noise from downstairs but we expected that. Room overlooked carpark at rear, we were woken at 5am each morning by a man going through big bins for bottles.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Meh. It’s a few rooms sitting on top of a pub. It’s ok. Nothing special. Decent cleanliness but really nothing special. A room on a pub.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly hospitable staff that went out of their way. Great location near cafes and town. The King room was great. Lovely big spa and ensuite
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Site good, easy access to CBD. Room clean and well serviced but although double blinds on windows only one blind on each window moveable.
At book in only one staff member on duty so introduction to room rather sparse. I was uncertain about use of key on access outside door but staff member very happy to explain further which was just as well as key only worked in certain position.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Location was great, however the aircon in the room did not work and also the airconditioning in the common area/hallway of the hotel was not on when I arrived and it was extremely hot. The hotel should have the rooms cooled in advance of guests arrival - it's a simple and easy thing to do! Because this establishment is a "pub" with a few rooms, it seems that the priority is given to the bar and restaurant, and patrons staying in the guest rooms are not even considered. There was also no effort made by the hotel staff to assist in finding alternative accommodation, as the rest of the rooms were full as a result of the long weekend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice, hotel close to the beach, cafes ,bars and restaurants .they really need to have basic things like hooks in the bathroom for towels and a door sign for housekeeping. However it was clean and comfortable.cravings restaurant, and live music great 😊
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great large room, super clean. Nearby eating places
& not far to Bar Beach.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Insufficient toiletries...no phone in the room so no room service i guess...noisy hotel as we could hear the loud music in our rooms and couldn’t sleep. Not so clean as the whole place was smelling weird.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice, large room, comfortable, nice location, lots of eateries around
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice hotel close to food places and Newcastle foreshore. Lovely stay
- Treena (10/5): - Fabulous spa room. Spacious and really comfortable. And restaurant food yummy. Thanks.
- Ken (10/5): Nice stay - Easy checking in and a comfortable room
- Snash (8/5): - A very comfortable bed spacious room and surprisingly quiet for a busy hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great location, basic room - Perfect location right on Darby Street. The staff were very friendly and able to accomodate changes to our booking. However, the room was fairly old and basic. Definitely paying for the location.
- Laurie (10/5): - We felt very looked after, it was great. We had a nice sleep in.
- Janine (6/5): - The sheets and towels were clean, but there was no seat in the room, it was very dark because the roller blind was broken, so I couldn't open the blind to let light in.
The amenities were very basic and there were not even any tissues in the room.
Annabelle was lovely, but both the Wi Fi codes she gave me didn't work, so I ended up having no Wi Fi which was the purpose of my overnight stay, so in the end it was a fruitless overnight stay, that was very disappointing.
This was not Annabelle's fault, but the Owners I would suggest? Over all a disappointing stay.
I would've taken my daughter there, but probably won't now.
- Morris (8/5): Nice spot - Great comfortable place to stay
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Lovely staff, clean and tidy room and comfortable bed. No wifi and a bathroom fan that is on permanently, even with the door closed it is still loud enough to disrupt sleep. In addition, the bathroom - although clean, had an odd musty odour that was very unpleasant. Suitable for a one night stay only as good location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff were excellent and very friendly, the room was excellent with the only downside being the bed wasn't overly comfortable but definitely not a deal breaker. We would definitely stay again
- Verified traveler (2/5): - very disappointing
house keeping was bad
no hot water
bed side lights not working
- Verified traveler (10/5): Suprising little gem - We were stuck without accomodation and found this little star
Surprisingly very quiet for being above a hotel and without doubt the best pillows ever
Very clean and tidy and private
We’ll be there again for sure
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great value and location - Had a great 1 night stay. The hotel is close to restaurants and essentials stores. Even though it's above a hotel music and noise does not go into the morning. Hotel guests can enter from the rear doors straight to the rooms, so you don't need to go through the bar to get to your room. Unrestricted council parking next door after midday saturday and all day Sunday. Great value hotel
- D (4/5): DISABILITY ROOM COULD BE BETTER - I OBVIOUSLY HAD A ROOM SET UP FOR SOMEONE WITH DISABILITIES WHICH WASN'T AN ISSUE EXCEPT FOR:
NO REMOTE TO WATCH TV AND THEREFORE I WAS STUCK LISTENING TO THE LOUD MUSIC FROM THE BAR AND BAND ROOM UNTIL IT CLOSED AT 12.00AM.
BOTH LAMPS DIDN'T WORK SO WHEN I WAS READY TO SLEEP I HAD TO GET UP AND TURN OFF THE MAIN LIGHT.
NO SHELVING IN THE SHOWER TO PUT MY SOAP / SHAMPOO ETC SO IT HAD TO SIT ON THE FLOOR.
IF I WAS A DISABLED PERSON BOTH THE LAMP AND SHELVING WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE BUT AS I AM ABLE BODIED IT WAS A ONLY A NUISANCE.
MY SON AND HIS FAMILY HAD ANOTHER ROOM AND AS IT HAD REMOTE THEY COULD WATCH TV TO SHUT OUT THE MUSIC. THEY WERE HAPPY WITH THEIR ROOM AS IT WAS FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The locality was fantastic and the room was really all we needed. The bed needed some repairs and it would also be nice to have an easy way to fill the jug and to be able to plug it in. Staff were great as were the meals at the restaurant. enjoyed the stay. There are new owners so they are going to get on top of that.
- Wk (8/5): Hotel in the Main Street and close walking to city - Walking distance to wharf and many eaters. Hotel quite, even with a band playing and patron noise nice room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Convenient, comfortable and quiet.
Great for a night out, central to everything, welcoming staff, good atmosphere!.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Outdated, parking is a problem and it is quite noisy. We had to ask for milk, towels were yellowing and looked dirty. Could do with a total revamp. Not a pleasant experience.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room needs some improvements. It needs a comfy chair to sit on (there is ample room for one), some furniture is a bit worn around the edges ( especially the wardrobe), the kettle could only be boiled in the bathroom as there was no easily accessable power point in the main room, and even though parking was available on site, it was a council controlled carpark with daytime restrictions and no dedicated hotel guest parking spots. However, the room was modern, in good clean condition, air conditioned, very quite and the bed was very comfy.
- gail (8/5): Great place close to everything - The Delay was a great place to stay good price the only thing was the bathroom had no extra toilet rolls
And there was toothpaste on the wall. But not enough to put us off would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place to stay with lots of cafes, restaurants around....
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location. Close to restaurants and cafes. - Good budget accommodation. Great location and friendly staff.
- Terry (6/5): Not self contained and restricted parking - Parking was a 2 hr limit council car park. Had to move car between 9-5. No microwave, sink, or chair even a small table. Fridge was mouldy and bathroom had a strong smell of bleach with no ventilation.
- katt (8/5): - Hotel is a great spot to sit and relax with a beverage and watch Darby street go by
Close to everything
Quiet rooms , well insulated from night life down stairs
Wonderful staff
- Verified traveler (6/5): well priced and central location. - We often travel to Newcastle and this accomodation is comfortable, affordable and centrally located.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location, and well equipped room with new modern bathroom and comfortable bed.
- KT (10/5): Very good value for money - Check in was simple, staff very helpful, restaurant excellent. Room comfortable, free onsite parking, tea and coffee facilities in room (including biscuits), big TV, quiet even though its a pub (may be different on Friday/Saturday nights), good little desk to use laptop for work. I have stayed at another more expensive place in Newcastle with none of the above apart from the bed being comparable in comfort. I would choose the Delany every time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Pleasing stay with comfortable and quiet room. Staff were friendly during the day and helpful. Great location on busy Darby Street and parking on site a positive.
- steven (8/5): Great location - Nice hotel, great location, rooms good size, but very warm as air conditioner not on during the day, takes long time to cool down the room at night. overall quiet and friendly staff
- Mark (8/5): Excellent hotel in beautiful area - Pleasantly surprised to arrive at the Hotel Delany, beautiful setting in heritage area of Newcastle with restaurants, cafes and eateries lining the quaint street. Room was very nice for the price, excellent polite staff, great Restaurant and upmarket décor turned a brief stay into a great experience and wanting come back again
- dominic (8/5): Can't beat the location - Good place to stay, close to the main eating places. I stayed on a Wednesday so no band and was quiet and comfortable. Not the ritz but clean and inexpensive
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel is in a great location. Clean and comfortable rooms. Check-in was quick and easy. Music can be heard downstairs till midnight, but afterwards its very quiet.
- ian (8/5): Nice motel - Was a great place to stay and the spa was awesome great price only letdown was the air con couldn't adjust the temp but I'm sure an easy fix but all in all would happily stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice Hotel close proximity to resturants and beach - Stayed on the kind spa suite was a great experience for a reasonable price
- Daryl Peter (8/5): - The room was as described on hotels.com's booking site
- Verified traveler (2/5): Faulty Fire Alarm From 4.00a.m - The rooms are small and yet it took 105 minutes for the air conditioner to cool the room down to a tolerable temperature.
The rooms have no desk and some of the furniture seems to have been mixed and matched to make it spread across various rooms.
Soon after checking in, a fire alarm with an evacuation notice went off.
It ended a few minutes later.
At 4.00a.m, the fire alarms went off again and this time stayed on until I left at 7.30a.m.
No staff.
No notice.
No care.
No consideration.
