Guest Reviews
- Jun Kai Nigel (7/5): - Amazing location that allows for stargazing. The breakfast and milk provided was nice. There were quite a lot of worms on the floor when we checked in.
- Julie (10/5): Great stay lovely cosy cottage for one night - For a stay with difference we loved the idea of staying in a historical building. It didn’t disappoint. Sadly could climb the light house due to renovations but still enjoyed the visit. Minor improvement when welcoming guests would be to open the gate on arrival rather than leave it for the visitors to open it after giving confusing instructions.
- TANYA (10/5): Amazing experience ! - Amazing location peaceful and stunning views The. Ace was closed during our stay and lighthouse is closed for renovation
- Eleanor (9/5): The location was amazing and we would love to stay again. - The location was quiet and peaceful and the views were amazing. We had a lovely time wandering around when we arrived through the historic buildings.
- Damian (10/5): Wonderful; a nice mix of heritage and homeliness. - Small touches were great. Free coffee and scones voucher and a wonderful breakfast supplied. There were even postcards (a little old-school - but sweet) included. It was cool - not sure how cold it would be in the dead of winter. I'd suggest to rug up!
- Duncan (10/5): This was our second stay and it just keeps getting better and better. So many good walks nearby and the atmosphere was m - Unique and special Nothing
- Michael (10/5): -
- Petra (10/5): - Absolutely amazing! We stayed just two nights!
- William (9/5): -
- Antonia (9/5): Stunning location - Amazing location. Great access to the lighthouse complex and a free cream tea! Really beautiful with kangaroos on site. Fully expected but still worth a mention - some bugs in the house but it’s rural and to be expected.
- Jørgen (10/5): - Fascinating to stay in a building representing some of the first white people history in southern Australia. Incredible location on the coastline.
- Jane (10/5): - We had trouble with wifi which meant the tv didn’t work.
- Lynne (10/5): The whole experience was incredible and we loved the complimentary scones and tea - The unique and historical aspects of the stay were amazing We couldn’t stay longer
- Kate (9/5): -
- Alison (8/5): Incredible location and wonderful staff - The location was amazing.
The staff were really helpful especial thanks to Luke who helped us with a couple of technical issues.
the beds were extremely comfortable would have been nice to have laundry facilities and a hairdryer
- Rahul (9/5): -
- Warren (9/5): -
- Sharon (10/5): Absolutely fantastic! Well appointed little cottage with goodies in the kitchen we were not expecting. Friendly staff an - Wow!! What a location and what a privilege to stay here in such an historical location. To be able to photograph sunset and sunrise ( which can’t be done unless you stay) was simply incredible!
It was like being locked in a shopping centre after it closed and you have it all to yourself!! Only the millipedes, but hey…..it’s nature.
- Christine (9/5): - Unique and memorable place to stay for a night
- Gail (9/5): - I would have appreciated a reasonable sized vessel suitable to the microwave.
We were unable to cook a simple meal due to no dish suitable for microwave.
With no stove top available all we had access to was the microwave but couldn’t use it.
- Tam (10/5): -
- Carlene (9/5): Wonderful - Location and history, staff, coffee I think it’s a bit overpriced given there aren’t any cooking facilities other than a microwave, toaster, kettle
- Rebecca (10/5): -
- Alissa (8/5): Beautiful views, cozy rooms and friendly people surrounded by nature - We‘ve loved staying at the b&b because of the view and the possibility to enjoy the area without many other tourists. The b&b itself was very cozy and cute. We got a voucher for free scones, they were amazing and the café has a nice view. We loved the history talk we could attend. There was no kitchen sink, also you cannot cook (except toaster and microwave), but we knew that beforehand and for a shorter stay that is o.k.
- Greg (10/5): We wished we could have stayed for a couple more nights so peaceful and relaxing - Incredibly peaceful. The Lighthouse Keepers Cottage was just beautiful and the history of the area of Cape Otway
- Jean Luc (10/5): -
- Philip (6/5): Not worth it - The fact it was by the lighthouse, unusual stay, good breakfast tray! Access, very faffy, tiny room, nowhere to put anything, bathroom outdated, and the fact the lighthouse is closed due to maintenance, which isn’t mentioned upon booking.
- Deborah (10/5): Such an experience to stay in an iconic place - It was small but very comfortable and the addition of a small but perfectly adequate kitchen was great. Nothing
- Duncan (8/5): Great location interesting accommodation - Location Lack of kitchen sink
Lighthouse closed for renovation- we didn’t know this in advance
- Catherine (9/5): An experience totally worth doing - We loved the remoteness and being able to have the grounds to walk around at night. It took us back in time staying in the house and we loved learning about the history.
It is very isolated, so a bit of advice would be to bring along food or microwave food to eat for dinner. Nothing, we loved absolutely everything. The only disappointment was not being able to tour the lighthouse due to safety issues and renovations which were totally out of the staffs hands.
Vielen Dank Nichts
- Paul (10/5): - The cottage is in an incredible location close to the Cape Otway lighthouse. The building captures the history of the light station. Nothing. The welcome pack of local produce was wonderful. The only thing missing was a hair dryer
- Thomas (10/5): -
- Jayne (10/5): - Location
Comfort
Special touches Nothing
- Halson (8/5): Superb location, charming quirky accommodation but check lighthouse is open before booking - Location was superb with excellent provision of coffee tea bread etc in flat My wife noted the absence of a hairdryer which is provided in almost all properties now. The cafe food is very basic. Access to the lighthouse and even its platform was closed for maintenance. No work was done in the 2 days we were there. No indication of this closure was given before or after booking. This is the USP of the place and I think notice should have been given to overnight guests. I noticed that the entrance fee for day visitors had been reduced by 50% because of the closure of the lighthouse.
- Oi Lam (9/5): great memory - great location for visiting. stay over could enjoy the sunset and sunrise with beautiful scene. the house has every thing you need. very cozy.
- John (8/5): - Great spot with magnificent views at night
- Babbar (10/5): -
- Lachlan (10/5): -
- Megan (9/5): Different and worth it! - Bedroom comfortable and clean. Great facilities in the kitchenette - microwave, toaster, kettle and everything youd need to eat like crockery cutlery and washing up liquid.
Local information and history available. Acess to the grounds which was amazing to wonder around when it had closed.
Secluded which makes for amazing stargazing on a clear night. Only reason it wasnt a 10 is that the bathroom is a bit dated. But very clean and works well.
- Campbell (9/5): -
- Paul (9/5): -
- Gopesh (9/5): Worth visiting for the environmental experiences- wallabies & for a break from the phone & telly - Breakfast was gd. Healthy stuff. The room we had booked ( b&b lodge) doesn’t have a view. We wanted to booked the studio but wasn’t available
- Susanne Linda (10/5): I loved every minute ❤️ - Breakie was lovely, I loved the isolation and the beautiful view of the lighthouse. Cottage 5 was so warm and cosy, the bed was so comfy. The little front room was where I sat and did crochet and watched the weather change. Loved it . I can't think of anything.
- Vanessa (10/5): -
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Fiona (9/5): -
- Gwen (6/5): - The location is amazing. Plenty of food provided for a continental breakfast. Staff are friendly and passionate about their location The Lodge B’nb was very small and noisy if people were in next door. The towels were thin and small and not refreshed daily. We had a lovely stay but for $260 a night a higher quality accommodation was expected
- Diana (8/5): If it would have been warm outside, we may not.have spent our time trying to stay warm - Location was excellent. Accommodations were very good. They left us some food for breakfast. The view was excellent. We.did see a few kangaroos, but it was late.when we arrived. Parking was good The heating system was inadequate for a cold evening. I slept in my winter coat. The heater did't project enough heat and both rooms were extremely cold. The shower was only separated by a curtain and the floor was wet after..
- Benjamin (8/5): - Excellent location and cosy room. Great place to escape the crowds for a night and enjoy the serenity.
- Ann-Marie (10/5): Fantastic stay. - Location was idyllic, guest house was so spacious and clean. Lots of room to really relax. Being able to roam the lighthouse and surrounds after hours was also cool. Having the fire with plenty of firewood was a bonus.
- lynn (7/5): - The housekeeping staff was very friendly and gave me alot of tips on where to visit despite being very busy.
The other staff at the cafe were very helpful in trying to call to find out more on our booking too. The accommodation had locked up one bathroom/toilet for the first night, as they made a mistake in the number of people in our booking, thinking it was only 3 pax while there were 7 of us. That left us with one shower/toilet room for the 7 of us for the first afternoon/night and second morning. The toilet was a challenge to share between 7 pax especially when one is showering none could use the toilet. Not a pleasant experience.
- Michael (9/5): -
- Paige (9/5): -
- Nick (7/5): Disappointed - Small but comfortable accommodation Lighthouse was closed which we were not told about
No staff as everyone left early evening
No one around when we left at 8.00 am
- Berk (10/5): -
- Alex (10/5): -
- Hans Detlef (9/5): -
- Greg (9/5): Great location, amazing views, very comfortable family accommodation - Location was unique, enjoyed the history of the location, views were stunning Was disappointing we couldn’t access the lighthouse
- Marina (10/5): So peaceful and breathtaking view. - The location was amazing. What a view. Na
- Gharat (9/5): - This is a beautiful heritage apartment with four spacious bedrooms and a large, comfortable living area that made our stay truly enjoyable. The apartment was exceptionally clean and well-maintained, with bright lighting that created a fresh and welcoming atmosphere throughout. The kitchenette was spotless and well-equipped, making it easy to cook meals during our stay. The experience was very comfortable. The rooms offer a beautiful view of the lighthouse and the ocean, creating a peaceful and scenic atmosphere that makes the stay truly enjoyable and memorable. A wonderful place to stay, especially for families or groups—I would highly recommend it.
- Liz (8/5): -
- Karen (10/5): Relaxing, peaceful and beautiful place to stay - Loved that we had the place at night to ourselves to watch the sunset and sunrise and that it was quiet and peaceful. Loved meeting all the local wildlife.
- Jennifer (10/5): -
- Kathryn (10/5): A step back in time to really unwind. - The cottage was in a unique part of the world but felt like a piece of history. The continental breakfast was a lovely surprise and we enjoyed the scones and coffee at cafe. Every staff member was friendly and helpful. The wildlife was adorable. The stars were magnificent. The views wet breathtaking. Leaving 🤣
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional. Would stay again! - Would absolutely rebook again! We had the studio room next to the cafe and it was a gorgeous location waking up to the view of the lighthouse and having it all to ourselves. The room itself had everything we needed, kettle, sink, electric frypan and the staff even left some coffee grounds, French press, Vegemite, butter, milk and bread for us. There's so many things to do around the region as well, and we saw wallabies, rabbits and many birds around the lighthouse. It was very clean, quiet, cosy and well kept. The lighthouse cottages were absolutely divine and I couldn't say a bad word about them if I wanted to!
- Nina (10/5): - super quiet and relaxed, wonderful views
- Dickie (9/5): -
- Jackie (10/5): A peaceful pre-Christmas getaway in a glorious location. - The studio was so cute - loved the view straight down to the lighthouse. Bed was comfy, breakfast was delicious and unexpected. Everything was sparkling clean. Plenty of wildlife (wallabies with joeys, kangaroos, echidna and on the way out to the main road, a big koala). It is the ideal place for a quiet break. Work is still going on at the lighthouse so you can’t get in but that didn’t detract from our enjoyment. I love how peaceful it is once the park is closed and just the few paying guests are left. Loved it all.
- Andrew (10/5): - A very special place Having to leave
- Ros (10/5): - Beautiful location friendly staff
- Fiona (8/5): Staff all incredibly friendly and helpful. Beautiful scenic location. - Amazing location steeped in history. Lodge B&B, room 4 - no view from the room as faced away from the lighthouse/ sea.
- Jun (10/5): -
- James (10/5): A superb opportunity to spend time staying in a piece of history, in a wild and beautiful location! - The opportunity to stay in this historical building was such a treat! The weather was fairly cool and a little bit wild, which was perfect :) The cafe is also so lovely. We highly recommend a visit during your stay. The power went out for a few hours during our stay. It was no fault of the lightstation, it was a blackout in the area. So I suppose I would suggest that people remember that you are really in a remote location. For us this added to the fun, but if you are someone who needs everything to be perfect all the time then maybe stick to less adventurous places??
- Brad (8/5): Weekend get away at the light house - Great views, could see the lighthouse from our bed. King bed and pillows were very comfortable. Peaceful quiet place to stay. Reasonably priced. Seeing the wallaby with a baby joey in its pouch was great to see as well. I find it a bit much to expect people to wash their dishes when there's no kitchen sink. They supply a plastic tub and you need to boil the kettle and get water from the bathroom.
- Ian (9/5): - Great location, amazing to be able to explore the grounds and coastline after the crowds have departed. Superb history at the site. Accommodation was cosy and comfortable in a cold and blustery night. Bed comfortable and simple breakfast left was a lovely touch. It was all good
- Murielle (8/5): -
- Neil (10/5): Light keepers studio - Amazing location, snug and warm dispite some challenging weather outside...ideal getaway
- Ranee (9/5): A unique lodging and special stop along The Great Ocean Road - A special location! Great to have access to this historic site and the nearby trails. Room was small but very comfortable, with a nice locally sourced continental breakfast in the kitchenette. Loved seeing wallabies, kangaroos, parrots and an echidna in the peaceful after-hours. Lighthouse was closed for renovations while we were there but we did get access to some other historic buildings with exhibits and get to hear about the site’s history on the afternoon we checked in. Limited ocean views but did enjoy watching the mammals and birds on the property and nearby trails, especially towards dusk.
- Ai Phuong annalisa (8/5): - Peaceful, beautiful location, good to see wildlife including a wallaby around the premises. Comfortable beds and couches. Understandably spotty reception as was warned. Very spacious interior with a lot of history on the walls Slightly chilly location even with the radiator. Unfortunately the lighthouse was closed during our stay
- Richard (10/5): - Everything. Great place - very pretty, quiet, and serene. An echidna crossed the road in front of us as we were driving in, which my wife loved to see. The staff were very friendly and helpful as well. At some times of year the wind can get very cold in the evening. Make sure to take a warm jacket!
- Sparky Schipke (10/5): - To stay overnight in the head lightkeepers cottage and feel the atmosphere, the history, isolation and the elements was an exceptional experience. Truly memorable.
- Alison (9/5): -
- emily (10/5): Beautiful spot for stargazing and very historic - The location is amazing and you can wander the grounds when the site is closed to the public. Very historic and atmospheric with good guide books to read. Included breakfast. Our place did not have a sink or a hob/oven so if you want dinner bring microwave food or be prepared to drive back to Apollo bay - a long way!
- JEONG KOOK (10/5): -
- Na (8/5): -
- Philip (5/5): A historic property with comfortable but basic amenities. - Authentic and historic accommodation in the Head Light keeper’s Cottage (BnB). A very peaceful and remote location with basic self catering facilities. You have to be fully prepared with supplies for your stay. The property uses both rooms as bedrooms so there is no space for relaxing in comfortable chairs. Given the remote location there is little else to do except read and play games so the seating options are limited. The self catering facilities are basic and located in the front bedroom.
It was quite cool and this property only has electric heaters. A log burner would be great to add a cosy feel.
Disappointing the lighthouse was shut when we stayed.
- riahannon (9/5): - Loved this stay, the views were spectacular & having the park to yourself was amazing.
