Guest Reviews
- Clare (10/5): Amazing place, we saw a wombat and lots of rabbits, chickens, it was so wonderful! - Everything was lovely, clean, comfortable, and it was a great location My only small feedback would be that the bed and pillows were pretty firm, a good mattress topper would be amazing
- Karen (9/5): We would stay here again. Thank you ☕️ - Very unique. Lovely quiet location close to river walks. Warm solid fuel heater.
- Vanessa (10/5): -
- Shannin (10/5): -
- Kok (8/5): - Location, and cosy Needs a bit of maintenance but otherwise good
- Nicole (9/5): Very relaxing stay, with lovely fireplace. Scenic walk along the river into town. - Beautiful peaceful location right on the Ovens river. Loved the upstairs open plan bedroom with spa bath, feels totally surrounds by gorgeous trees and birds
- David (8/5): On the whole, a nice place to stay. - The location was beautiful. The pillows were uncomfortable and the doona was light and didn't keep me warm enough.
- Howard (10/5): -
- cheryl (10/5): We'll be back! - The hosts were sooooo helpful in every possible way Just the internet but it's like it all over town due to it's location
- Debbie (10/5): -
- David (9/5): - Our unit (Fluerbai) was large enough that we never felt cramped, but small enough to feel cosy. It was literally only a few metres from the Ovens river Canyon walk but still very private and quiet.
- Sandy (8/5): - Close to town, quiet Noisy ceiling fan
- Marianne (8/5): Very pleasant and relaxing - Quiet, location to Bright and Porepunkah was excellent for walking or cycling into these towns, bed and lounge areas very comfortable, good laundry facilities, friendly hosts & extra linen/bathroom facilities were provided for our longer stay. Wifi was extremely poor and needs to be advertised as such so people booking are aware, instead of finding this out during their stay. Dust was an issue that could easily be avoided with a more thorough clean.
- Maddi (9/5): -
- Leonie (9/5): Relaxing, rejuvenating peaceful - The location, nestled in the bush, all the birdlife, feeling of space,
- Tomas (9/5): really nice. - great spot, very clean everything required was there.
- David (8/5): Very enjoyable and relaxing - Location. Outdoor area. Bath/spa No dishwasher. Very small kitchen.
- Eddie (10/5): Very relaxing - Location No blinds on some windows
Too much light comes in - in the morning
- Jane (10/5): - Lovely cottage exactly as pictured. Beautifully quiet location and perfect for our short stay.
- Rebecca (9/5): Beautiful cottage in a great location - be prepared to be off the grid 😊 - Great quiet location, near canyon walk, laundry facilities, kitchen, full size fridge and plenty of room. We had no phone reception at this location and the provided wifi was very unreliable - constantly dropping out. Would be fine for a couple of days but got very frustrating as we were there a week.
- Ashley (10/5): Serenity -
- Josh (10/5): - Great location hidden away but still minutes from town centre, studio cottage was perfect, cosy but still spacious
- Bradley (7/5): -
- Janine (8/5): -
- Jenny (9/5): - Privacy, location
- Marg (9/5): wonderful cottage in beautiful garden setting - beautiful location, at the end of the wonderful Canyon River Walk. Lovely to sit in the sunroom in the afternoon and the lounge with the log fire in the evening kitchen facilities are limited
- Laura (10/5): We had such a brilliant stay! From the moment we arrived, everything felt welcoming and beautifully thought out - even t - We had such a brilliant stay! From the moment we arrived, everything felt welcoming and beautifully thought out - even the perfectly cut kindling. The cottage was spotless, cosy, and full of charm, the perfect balance of comfort and style.
The location is ideal: peaceful and tucked away enough to feel private, yet just a short stroll to Bright’s cafes, shops, and walking trails. We loved relaxing by the fire in the evenings and waking up to the sounds of nature in the mornings.
Every detail made our stay feel special, with the thoughtful touches throughout. It’s clear how much care goes into making guests feel at home here.
We can’t recommend Ashwood Cottages highly enough and will definitely be coming back next time we visit Bright.
- Stewart (8/5): -
- Karyl (10/5): - Absolutely fantastic cottage, we loved it. It had everything we needed and more.
We had to leave earlier due to a sudden death in the family and the host was so kind and understanding.
Loved the fireplace, very efficient, great to have Netflix, etc. Great king size bed.
We didnt use the spa bath but it looked stunning!!!
Would highly recommend this place, so quiet and cosy. Thank you 😊 We were sad to leave earlier 😪 😒
- Paul (10/5): - We really loved our stay at the haven cottage. It was cozy, private and had everything and more you could ask for to have a comfortable and luxurious stay. Highly recommend.
- Halle (10/5): -
- Len (7/5): Our stay was ok but would have nice to be advised of the house rules in advance of stay with cleanup - Overall, the cottage ok. The log fire was nice. Kitchen facilities were ok but could do with smaller frying pan. Lots of rules in the Haven cottage.
Not sure why there is a spa bath when given instructions; "No oils, bath bombs or candles"
Firewood is provided but not enough for a 3 days stay is very poor. Then reading guests will need to purchase from Petrol Station/Woollies.
The master bedroom heater did not work very well and failed to keep warm under the light doom cover.
The microwave position is clearly in the wrong high position. I would suggest relocating to a safer place on the kitchen bench. It is too dangerous with hot liquids, and I bumped my head on the supporting microwave cabinet a few times.
- Beau (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful and peaceful setting. Bushland setting, Birdlike. Calm setting, good access to town and facilities.
- Emily (8/5): Very good -
- Kim (10/5): A beautiful relaxing stay, great to get away from it all - Secluded quiet pretty location with the luxury of a wood fire, king size bed and an awesome spa I loved it all
- Rory (9/5): A cosy spot to stay relax and rest in between days exploring Mt Buffalo with my camera. - If you don't insist on walking everywhere, it's the perfect location. It's spacious, comfortable & cosy enough to feel relaxed without being cramped and all the facilities you could ask for! They are unfortunately in a bit of a slow spot for mobile reception and the internet speeds are not exactly what most city dwellers would be used to. But it was definitely sufficient enough to get online and get things done.
- Ken (8/5): Very good -
- Glen (10/5): Awesome place to stay - Everything!
- Pauline (6/5): Pleasant -
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Ross (8/5): Very good -
- Evan (10/5): Fantastic! - The location, cleanliness and attention to detail. Nothing
- Chris (10/5): Perfect couple getaway anytime of the year. - We stayed in the Fleurboix Cottage, which is at the end of a really pleasant dead end street - the location is very quiet and right on the Canyon Walk path into Bright. It's also a few minutes ride up the dead end street to the Rail Trail that goes for miles in each direction and nice and flat. Recommend hiring bikes from one of the 3 bike shops in town, or of course bring your own. The property is secluded and perfect for a weekend or like us 4 nights. The spa and fire sealed the deal. I can't really fault anything about the property or the cottage....it's just well thought out and comfortable.
- Phu (10/5): We had a great honeymoon - Location was convenient and not too busy. The pillows were too high, fry pan was worn out.
- Simone (10/5): Exceptional - The beautiful, quiet location. Studio ha everything I need and ever so comfortable. Nothing
- Claire (8/5): We loved our stay overall! - The outdoor area It was a little too far to walk into town, but this wasn’t a massive issue!
- Daniel (8/5): Very good -
- G (8/5): Very comfortable and peaceful. Just perfect 👌. - Very quiet location. Wonderful bird life ❤️. Nothing. Everything was provided and plenty of local information provided.
- Christine (8/5): Very good - Beautiful cottage with gorgeous scenery outside the windows of the spa. It made for a well needed relaxing few days. A couple of missing items in the kitchen (no dishcloth to wash the dishes - we purchased some to pop in there for the next guest and no sharp knife to cut with) but it definitely didn't spoil our stay at all.
- Tanya (9/5): Excellent for a shot break - Great secluded spot. Has access to the Canyon Walk. Very private. Nice facilities, clean and tidy.
We loved the location and that it was a bit further away from the town centre. We walked to dinners and back. It was pleasant for us to spend 30 minutes walking each way. But something to keep in mind if you do not wish to drive.
- Ashley (7/5): Good -
- Giuseppe (8/5): Very good - clean and tidy no phone reception
- Nikita (10/5): Exceptional - Good size for a couple, very nice location by the river, good distance from the town
- Maria (10/5): Got away ! - Excellent couples retreat! Great amenities, close to town! Great get away!
- Dean (9/5): Amazing value for money for a comfortable and relaxing get away. - The location was great and we loved how close it was to Canyon Walk. Really lovely to be surrounded my so much nature.
- Leon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicole (10/5): It was just perfect, we wished we could stay another couple of days - It was clean & peaceful
- Tim (8/5): An enjoyable cottage to stay in on the outskirts of Bright . - We stayed in Fleurbaix - it was very cosy but cold on arrival. Soon warmed up with the fire - we used the air-conditioning in the mornings. Good basic kitchen. The spa bath was very nice and king size bed. The canyon walk into Bright and back is a nice walk. The cottage was older and tired in furnishings.
- Sarah (10/5): Peaceful, relaxing and just the quiet weekend away l needed - Everything,
Quiet, felt secluded but was only 2minute drive to bright.
Great place to disconnect from the world Nothing every little bit was great.
- Craig (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (10/5): A charming cottage with all the comforts of home. - The cottage was clean and well presented .
Very comfortable king sized bed, spa bath and fireplace made our stay very enjoyable . Check in was easy with fire wood waiting and plunger coffee provided .
Would definitely return to Ashwood cottages for another holiday
- Blackwood (8/5): Very good -
- Lija (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay was marvellous! The location was fantastic and the hosts were lovely!
- Rachel (8/5): A gorgeous cottage with a wonderful spa and pot belly stove. A wonderful get away. - We loved our stay. It's a lovely little cottage. We especially liked the spa (it's a great spa) and the fire (worked so well, and was so enjoyable to have. Perhaps a couple of extra decorations, like cushions on the couch would add to the place. Also an extra blanket for the bed or for use on the couch would be lovely.
- Kate (10/5): A cosy stay surrounded by nature - Beautiful retreat in nature with a good-sized spa and comfortable bed. Very clean and cosy.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - The house was beautiful. Fireplace, bath, all you need for a romantic getaway. And the location was so peaceful and scenic. All the local stores, restaurants and cafes gave us somewhere new to visit and eat over the whole weekend.
All the locals were accommodating and friendly. It was a much needed reset.
- Michael (10/5): It was a relaxing stay in a wonderful location - Property had all the key amenities. Good kitchen supplies, well stocked fireplace and well maintained and comfortable furniture
- Pat (10/5): I was after a retreat space and this was perfect! - Quiet, very comfortable. Nothing
- Elle (10/5): A beautiful and rustic accommodation that is well appointed with everything you need for your stay and conveniently loca - Well appointed with everything you need for your stay. Private, picturesque location close to the Bright town centre. Nice, clean amenities Wifi was unsecured and a bit slow. There was also no shower curtain or screen which made for a minor privacy issue
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): Nothing else around remotely compares to Ashwood Cottages - Extremely affordable with an incredibly beautiful location within walking distance to town. Couldn’t be happier!
- Antony (9/5): quiet and comfortable retreat, excellent amenities and plenty of room for bikes - breakfast not included, location just out of town, very secluded and quiet
- Anna (8/5): Very good -
- Jade (8/5): Very good -
- Ashlyn (10/5): Absolutely amazing! Will definitely stay here again - The space was huge and didn’t feel crowded at all, so much room to put all my stuff. The bed, doona & pillows were all comfortable. The kitchen also had everything you could possibly need, which would be great for longer stays! Location was great, tucked away into the bush but only a short drive into the Main Street 😁 the outside area was very cute and also so close to the gorgeous walking track by the river
- Moo (10/5): Thank you!! - Lovely cottage. Very private. Good facilities. Nil
- Brian (10/5): Ecellent with a wow factor - Studio cottage is wow 🤩 as you enter through a portico into a “tardis” . This Dr had no idea of, from the photos!
The opulent king size lounge suite to the “how did they fit all that in the kitchen” space! Then stepping outside on the small deck the forest / jungle is emersive in shady but open airiness .
Upstairs you are in the forest canopy, luxuriating in the opulence fit for a king with a king sized bed , king sized spa bath & seperate king sized shower.
The spacious and sensory sensation of wide vista windows covered in a curved masterpiece of ceiling architecture. But there is more: a quaint porthole fresh air window beside the bed and sliding glass beside the spa.
When back to earth, this is a place designed to be enjoyed.
There is a house, and two other cottages somewhere nearby but you would never now . The chooks grazing in the bushes and trees probably do though .
A wonderful unique experience I am glad we had the chance to have.

- Andres (10/5): Perfect stay for a couple. - Everything at Ashwood has been taken care of. All amenities are excellent. Host communication was above our expectations. The cottage was clean, comfortable and perfect for a couple.
The location, close enough to Bright, was great for getting a sense of Bright's outskirts, and was perfect for walking by the Ovens river. Nothing.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marta (10/5): If you are looking for a peaceful, romantic place to stay in nature - this property is the one! - This property is so well designed, peaceful and has style. We were very comfortable and relaxed among the trees and nature - we were even provided with insect spray to keep the mosquitos away!
Other cabins are not visible and overall we walked into Bright along the beautiful tracks that are close by.
The hosts were very friendly and accommodating to our needs - thank you :)
- Kelly (9/5): Gorgeous getaway for couples - Amazing location, beautiful cottage. The birds start singing when the sun rises, so you may not get a sleep-in, even with the comfy bedding, but there is so much to see and enjoy in Bright and its surrounds anyway - why not start early! The spa was lovely, especially with the addition of some of the supplied bubble bath. No complaints
- Vicki (10/5): Excellent location, lovely facilities. Gorgeous treescape incorporated into the studio with windows. - The location was excellent. Short drive or ride to Bright and right on the Ovens river. Nothing really. A supply of lilows for the river?
- Breanna (10/5): Exceptional - The property was beautiful! Very clean and enjoyable stay.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional - Great price. The cottage was sizeable with a big spa bath and a good kitchen. Comfy bed. Great informative booklet and take out menus provided. There were bikes on site to use. Good communication from the hosts. There were bunny rabbits in the morning. The place was quiet and at the end of a street. A lovely oasis. Not a problem for us but FYI the shower and bath were visible from the bed. The sun room is absolutely beautiful but there was no Cooling in that room so it can't really be used in summer but it was great for drying our clothes.
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Judy (10/5): Perfect for peaceful reading break - Perfect location. In beautiful woods, stones throw to river. Gorgeous easy 2km walk to pub along river. Quiet and peaceful
- Wayne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debbie (10/5): The hosts are the best I left my Birkenstocks and they sent them out to me. I will always stay at Ashwood Cottages when - You feel like you’re a million mile s away so very peaceful and tranquil and a beautiful woodland walk into town There is nothing I didn’t like, but we stayed in studio apartment as lovely as it was, my knees disagreed with the stairs, but we’ve been hiking every day
- Tara (10/5): Exceptional - The atmosphere of the property is beautiful. Felt like a literal home away from home, but better with the sound of the river and wildlife! A blanket to add to the bed would be good.
- Bonnie (10/5): An enjoyable stay in a picturesque and private setting. - An easy process to follow in terms of directions to the property with clear communication from the host. We really enjoyed our stay in this cute cottage in the forest for our mini-moon. Would have been great to have the TV near the bed so we could watch it. But this is just personal preference! But overall it was a tremendous stay :)
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - Nice and spacious, with easy access to walk or drive into town.
- Trish (8/5): Very good -
- Hem (10/5): Wow - We got to the villa, and it took our breath away. The place was fantastic so lovely and cosy and the privacy of the place. It was bigger than the photos made out to be. Loved the bed. The daycore was just right. Wood fire was fantastic. The spa bath was super great. Overall, Fantastic will be back again. Nothing
- John (9/5): Very comfortable stay in a lovely setting. - It was very well appointed & very clean. There was plenty of space Nothing really. It was a bit further from town than we expected but was close to the rail trail for cycling, which was the main reason for our visit to Bright.
- Gavin (7/5): Ok, but could be a lot better. - Nice to have the chickens visit, and the rosellas. A good size and location and full kitchen was great. Having a fire place was fantastic along with the spa area. The studio itself was more rustic than expected. It had a homemade feel about it. The grounds were somewhat unkempt and really needed some tidying up. Noise from the road, but it was noisy critters on or in the roof at night that negated any sleep. Some thought is needed to address dead wood in surrounding treed areas and the small triangle of shade cloth really could do with a more adequate sized arrangement to prevent leaf litter and dead wood falling on your parked car. The laundry was in need of attention, old, and very rudimentary but worked.
- Tracy (9/5): Superb -
- Tom (9/5): Superb -
- Lynn (9/5): Very clean and nicely appointed. Warm and quiet. We really enjoyed our stay at Ashwood Cottages :) - I would prefer a separate bathroom.
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (9/5): Superb -
