Jo (9/5): Interesting history enjoyed by the open fire in beautiful surrounds - Unique world heritage site and working farm. Friendly staff. Fresh baked scones at the cafe straight from the oven with home made jam and butter, cream just whipped. Fascinating history. Very thankful the family who owns it and has done so for 6 generations so far have kept this place for us all to see and appreciate.
Damo2876 (7/5): Quaint, Rustic style cottage in great location to explore the area - Quaint, Rustic style cottage in the picturesque 'village' of Brickedon. Nicely appointed 'Pumpkin' cottage, close to Longford, Evandale and Woolmer estate. Nice historical site that you can explore after hours if you're staying there. Dog friendly, which is the main reason we booked here. Nice views over the fields from the back veranda :-) I understand being a dog friendly accommodation that there might be an extra charge or rules, however after paying a $15 per dog (we had 2 small spaniels) we then found a list of rules and cleaning requirements. I doubt the cleaners do anything more than normal despite the $30 extra and of course we'd already had to make sure it was clean and tidy (more like AirBnb rules). On that front, the rules also said to wash up all crockery etc... and leave on the drainer (presumably for the cleaner to then pop back into the cupboards). This doesn't ensure clean items though as we had to wash several 'clean' items before we could use them.

Waldock (9/5): Calm, peaceful and fabulous! - Beautifully rustic accommodation that overlooked the fields with views towards Ben Lomond. Breakfast provisions were superb, with 2 litres of real milk (no UHT sachets in sight, thank goodness!!) fresh eggs and plenty of cereal, breads, spreads etc. Comfy beds and plenty of space for the two of us. Cooking facilities were fine for a simple eat-in meal. Very small shower!

Gayle (9/5): Soak up the history, the rustic accommodation, the beautiful chapel in our back garden, special. - We stayed at Old Farm Cottage which is in the convict village. The property is rustic and comfortable and is a most wonderful place for anyone, but children especially as the farm animals are about. We had BBQ's both evenings and sat in the back garden with our own chapel which was incredibly special. Brickendon is such a wonderful place with so much history, it's quiet, relaxing and a walk (or short drive) across the road to the main house to admire the beautiful established gardens is a must. Sarah is a delight. We fell in love with Brickendon. Thank you Sarah. Nothing.

The bed in the 2nd bedroom was uncomfortable! I had a horrible encounter with a huge spider that came out of the lounge!!!!! & scratching during the night in the walls! All that said it is on a heritage farm & u get that!😊

Antony (8/5): A delightful stay with the joys of country living, 1950s security and gardens, but substantial physical difficulties for - Brought us back to child hood living in a small town; where homes were never locked, food was ordered by phone and delivers, gardens were simple and colorful, birds and insects lived freely and safely in the shrubbery around the homes. A great provision of the basics for breakfast, especially home free range eggs. Erratic hot water system. Baths that were Luke warm, showers that suddenly went cold, baths difficult for us elderly to get in and out of.

DON (10/5): For anyone looking for an authentic farm stay experience. - We had a wonderful farm stay at Brickendon. The experience was truly memorable, from the friendly hosts to the peaceful morning walks around the farm. The feeding activities were a highlight, especially for the kids. Breakfast was a fun and unique experience—we loved cooking our own fresh farm eggs and toast. Morning views were absolutely spectacular and made each day feel special. The location is convenient as well, with a supermarket and liquor shop nearby for any essentials. Parking was easy, with a spot available right in front of the property. Overall, it was an excellent stay, and we highly recommend Brickendon Estate. Our only dislike was the squeaky beds, which made the nights a little less comfortable.

Bob (8/5): Very good overnight stay - - My friend loved the property and the history associated with it. Me not so much. Lovely area and very quiet and peaceful. I am not a fan of old buildings, I prefer modern. The Wifi had broken down - not the properties fault.
Sandra (10/5): Love Brickendons old farm cottage. Very special and original place to stay - Old Farm Cottage is adorable. Rooms are spacious, very clean, natural, and decorated with thought. The grounds are wonderful for a wander and the old buildings interesting. The decanter of port a treat to enjoy beside the fire on our cold night stay. Especially grateful our dogs were allowed to stay with us. The wood box hadn't been restocked so we relied on a few pinecones.

Jacqui (9/5): Quaint and cosy cottage - We stayed for one night at Brickendon. The cottage was lovely and cosy and had everything we needed. The setting is beautiful and we enjoyed the animals. Our dog loved it as well. Would definitely recommend staying here.

sandra (10/5): - The Gardeners Cottage at Brickendon was everything we could have dreamed of in a restored cottage. Having free access to the estate gardens and grounds whilst there was fantastic and we were lucky enough to meet members of the Archer family as well as their friendly staff. Although it is a working estate we were made very welcome and I cannot rate the whole experience highly enough. So special to see the whole estate being kept as a going concern and in the same family. Wonderful place!

Nigel (10/5): - Open fire in a restored old cottage. Lots of Space and a fantastique view. Slight hiccup with hot water but owners most attentive about fixing or providing alternative. Few places in the world you can expérience authentic accommodation on a working farm in the same family for two centuries! Expédia charged significantly more than website itself.

Maria (10/5): A Perfect Getaway for Two Couples – Full of Charm, History, and Peace - We recently stayed at the Old Farm Cottage at Brickendon Estate as two couples looking for a peaceful and unique weekend away—and it was absolutely perfect. From the moment we arrived, we were transported back in time. The convict-built cottage from the 1820s had so much rustic character, yet it was warm, clean, and thoughtfully restored with modern comforts. The wood fire heater created such a cozy atmosphere for late-night chats, wine, and laughter, while the generously stocked kitchen made breakfasts easy and enjoyable. Our highlights: Waking up to birdsong and the sight of mist rising over the paddocks—just stunning. The friendly farm animals, especially the highland cows and chickens, which gave the stay a real country charm. Exploring the heritage buildings on the estate—old barns, stables, and the convict brickwork—all beautifully preserved. A leisurely walk through the Convict Trail to Woolmers Estate followed by a relaxed picnic among the gardens. Unwinding under the stars at night with no traffic, no noise—just peace. We each had our own space in the cottage, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. There was also plenty of room in the spacious lounge and dining area, making it perfect for small groups. What made it truly special was the authentic heritage atmosphere—we felt like we were part of Tasmania's early colonial story, but with all the comforts we needed. It was such a refreshing change from city life. If you're two couples looking for a quiet, romantic, and meaningful stay, this is a rare gem. We'll definitely be back.

Kevin (10/5): A beautiful historical gem ! - Brickendon is an incredible historical gem . The coachman’s cottage was like stepping back in time . Open fire and historical furnishings with beautiful surrounding gardens made our stay a unique and wonderful experience. Adding to all this as part of our stay was complete access to the convicts village which was a total journey back in time.
Makara (9/5): Historic with plenty of space. - Three bedrooms, great value, upstairs and downstairs historic property of interest, super comfy beds and heating in all bedrooms for a toasty night sleep. A little cold in the sunroom of an evening (where there was enough seating for us all) but not enough seating in the snug room which had the fabulous woodfire.

Glenys (9/5): Peaceful and pretty cottage - I inadvertently booked a one bedroom cottage. The owner was great and fortunately the farmers cottage was still available. It was a lovely two bedroom abode with modern bathroom, kitchen, wi fi etc. We also had ingredients for breakfast including farm fresh eggs. The only negative may be that you needed to drive into town which we did not require anyway
Judith (10/5): Delightful stay in a heritage cottage - A unique experience with the opportunity to stay in a heritage cottage in the countryside of Tasmania. Tastefully decorated in period style, the Coachman’s cottage was cosy and comfortable.
Steve (10/5): Another stay to revisit. - The cottage had an amazing rustic charm. We loved the hessian on the walls and the walls you could see through, the wood fire was wonderful. Other types of heating were also available. The fridge and larder were well stocked, breakfast of eggs, cereal, bread, butter, milk and juice where supplied for us to use. As was tea and coffee. the cupboards were well stocked with crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, there was a microwave and a cooker. The area was quiet and the sunrise was spectacular. We wish we could have stayed longer to explore Brickendon and Longford. Staying at Brickendon was a perfect ending to our Tasmanian adventure. Nothing.

Lovely and comfortable little historic cottage and garden. Enjoyed exploring the historical settings and gardens and appreciated being able to stay on the property. The bed was a little springy.
Jo-anne (10/5): A special stay to feel close to your convict ancestor. - This was the highlight of my Tassie tour as I got to stay on the property that my convict ancestor served out his sentence. The cottage was absolutely delightful and had all mod cons as well. Loved the heated flooring in the bathroom and heated towel racks. We helped with the feeding of the animals with Louise. The poddy calves were very thirsty. The ducks, turkeys and chicken were very friendly. Edward, the pampered Angus bull, is a delight. Despite a warm day for Tassie, we lit the fire at night to enjoy the ambience of the cottage. The eggs supplied for breakfast were freshly laid by the resident chickens. Not a thing. Loved it.
