Guest Reviews
- Robert (7/5): Served a purpose. - Location is excellent. Being a pub as well is always a bonus. Rooms a very outdated, needs a few dollars spent on it.
- John (5/5): You get what you pay for! - It is in the centre of town and opposite the Terminus Hotel. It’s your typical country pub with its locals. The room is very dated and needs fixing up and cleaning. The smell of cigarettes which might have been from outside (the smoking area is at the back of the hotel). The shower was mouldy. The water was great on the first morning but on Sunday morning the water was luke warm at best. They need to replace the plug in the bathroom.
- MCINTOSH (7/5): -
- Gillian (7/5): -
- Mullen (8/5): Staff polite and helpful. Motel accomodation satisfactory. Dining room and meals satisfactory. - Didn"t have breakfast The main bar.
Too noisy.
Too much swearing
Disturbing behaviour
Rude, loud group of men
- John (3/5): Avv - None Check in earlier than 2 30 in the afternoon
- Blake (9/5): -
- Lloyd (1/5): -
- Debra (2/5): Good location horrid room and unhelpful staff - The location was good. The room was supposed to be a motel room but was an upstairs hotel room. There were cobwebs above the wardrobe the towels were just shoved on the holder in no neat way. A lot of dust everywhere and the curtains were just a hanging mess. Would not stay there again nor would I recommend it to anyone. Everything
- Barb (1/5): Disgusting 🫣 🤮 - Nothing I thought I had a Motel room, no stairs. But I got told because I booked on line, that I am upstairs in the Hotel. The room was right at the front facing main road with a large security light shining in my window all night. The room was dirty. Dust & Cobwebs dirt right through out. I rang spoke to the manager & asked her to come to my room 15. She said she was busy and I would have to wait. She did not want to see what I was I was going to show her. I had no choice to stay as they had been paid. The freezer door fell off when opened fridge door. I coughed & sneezed every night because of the dust. Was not good for my health. Making up a bed does not make the room clean. Very disgusted and disappointed. My trip was ruined. Also I took the spare blanket out of the cupboard and bugs flew out ,& I was trying to kill them so took it out into the hallway and shook them out and stomping on them. Absolutely disgusting 🫣 😤
I would request a Full Refund ASAP.
- Brian (7/5): Nice enough motel with comfortable beds and in a central location. The town bell is loud so avoid this place if you like - Central location, onsite car parking, comfortable beds. Town hall bell is super loud and starts at 7am. Woke us up every day. This should be advertised on their website. At least get double glazing!
Our window did not lock which was a huge security risk.
No fly screen on window.
- Isobel (8/5): -
- Francisca (7/5): The bed was comfortable enough and if you need a place to just crash one night, it passes. - The location was just perfect So old and needed a touch up badly - put new carpet, carpentry and update bathroom the very least.
- wendy (4/5): Location good ,unable to sleep due to lighting - Locality Shredded carpet ,hanging power board ,outdated furnishings, curtains hanging down one end so couldn’t shut out light at night
- Jennifer (8/5): Good. thank you. - Location was great for what we needed. Some lights in rm 10 were not working.
Rm needs a bit of a paint.
- Adele (6/5): - Location was perfect staff very nice quiet street There wasn’t any body soap in the dispenser, the pillows need to be replaced and it needs a good paint
- Lauren (8/5): - Perfect for our last minute stay, clean, tidy, well located and lovely staff
- Julie (3/5): Pay more - go somewhere else - Good location. Very dated rooms. Threadbare carpets. Gravy box as bin. Air conditioning didn’t work - no knobs. Couldn’t draw the curtain.
- David (7/5): -
- DiAnne (1/5): We didn’t stay. We walked in and walked back out. - It is nothing like to photos. There are electrical cords on the floor, mould on the roof, shower roof was falling in. Water damage on the carpets, there was an extraction pipe outside the window which made a loud noise. It smelt dusty. The light in the bathroom was not working. I walked in and walked back out. Everything
- warr (9/5): -
- Joseph (1/5): Never again - Absolute dump Rooms dirty
Bathroom dirty
AC broken
Window doesn’t open
Loud music played until 12am
Stuffy and hot
Needs to be seen to be believed
- christines (2/5): Not nice the room was not what l expected l Didn’t realise the room was upstairs -
- Rios (3/5): - Rooms are not what you are shown on website. For what you're paying they should be better.
- Vince (3/5): - Fridge/stairs
- margaret (8/5): i will definately stay again - the room was very comfortable, however i think a microwave would be handy a microwave
- Keshia (1/5): Booked online, for motel out the back but was put upstairs. The room was filthy dirty, shower had mould. Will never stay - Location Filthy dirty, cobwebs and spiders, looked absolutely nothing like the photos. I
- Hawkins (4/5): Great location but property extremely run down. - Very central Needs a lot of work. They are making money out of accommodation that is barely habitable.
- Sheree (7/5): - Close to Main Street There was no where to leave the key in the morning when checking out
- Elton (1/5): They need to update their photos of their rooms. It was false advertising. - The photos that were provided weren’t the photos of the room that we had
I asked for an upgrade which the staff were happy to give and help
But the overall cleanliness of the room rooms was very below par
Staff were very accommodating great spot
Very noisy air conditioner
Lots of scuff marks on walls around the fridge
Good place to stay if you just need to put your head down quickly for the night
- hiam (5/5): - aircon very old room too hot
- mark (8/5): -
- Jenna (2/5): -
- Briannon (5/5): - Location Cleanliness
- Trent (3/5): Looked like I was staying in the “Shining. - To be honest there was not to much to like. The room was full of co webs, the stairs you have to climb to get up to the room outside is very step and unsafe, the bed was not very comfortable and the room needs a lot of updating. The fire alarm had been disconnected and was not working.
- Geoff (7/5): -
- Igor (8/5): Good value for money, great location, however this can be improved - Location Parking is random
- Sharonlee (1/5): This is room was an OHS problem. - Nothing The access after hours was a fire exit down steep dangerous stairs. It was dirty, lots of broken things inside including mattress.
- Rosemarie (1/5): - Position where located Beds sheets had blood stains, spider webs and spiders, carpert was torn apart room was very old and out dated
Photoes were not accurate at all and l have many more photos to prove it was false advertising for the rooms
False advertising and wanting to request a full refund
- Deborah (9/5): - Good location. Everything we needed in room A bit noisy from other guests
- Jamie (6/5): Easy location but the pub rooms are very old and basic - Good location 1. Expected to be in a "motel" room but was instead in an upstairs "pub" room.
2. Has a distinctive smell in the bar area like a cleaning chemical or something.
- Vincent (8/5): -
- Shaun (1/5): - Upon arriving we waited for 5 minutes (at the main bar) before being served. We checked in (thinking we had a Motel room) but instead were told we had a room above the hotel. Upon entering the room we were met with a wave of heat (the temp outside was 32 deg). Straight away we turned the aircon on (which was an 'older style' one, fitted in the window) which gave no relief at all. We dropped our bags off and headed out as it was far too hot to stay in the room.
We got back to the room about 10:00pm to find that the aircon had NOT cooled the room at all (which we had the worst night sleep)
The next day we asked the owner (?) If we could move to the motel rooms out the back, she said that they were fully book. Then we asked if they had a pedestal fan just to get some relief to which she said "There is a small heater the can be used as a fan" (which did not work at all) so another uncomfortable night sleep.
So too summaries- If you want to 'slow cook' for the night by all means stay here.
The only positive would be the location....
- Rory (1/5): Absolutely atrocious. - Basically nothing. The cleaniness, the staff were rude, lack of service and the room was generally in bad repair.
- Matt (7/5): - The location is hard to beat. The rooms were tired and old. Bed still comfortable and the room for the most part was clean and tidy.
- William (7/5): -
- John (6/5): - Happy hour from 4-6pm, nice staff and great location, didn't eat there so can't comment on the mea;ls but from what I saw they looked OK. There are two types of accommodation (motel rooms out the back and hotel rooms upstairs) and you’re not told which one you’ll get when booking. The upstairs rooms are quite outdated, with noisy window air conditioners, a very small TV, and worn carpets, cupboards, and furniture. Overall, it’s not the best accommodation in town but it does suffice, though it feels a little overpriced for what you get.
- Michael (10/5): -
- Trevor (5/5): -
- Jeremy (8/5): Good - Comfortable unit Nothing
- Alison (7/5): -
- Peter (1/5): Far from ideal - Honestly nothing Check in. Made to feel like an inconvenience for checking in.
The rooms are frankly grotesque
- Mia (1/5): Disgusting - The rooms were putrid I would never stay here! The rooms in the pictures are definitely not what the rooms look like it’s false advertising! The room was disgusting shower was gross & dirty marks on the sheets carpet ripped up the door was jammed so many times the rooms smelt disgusting! Rooms don’t look like the pictures that are online it’s false advertising!
- Lucus (3/5): -
- Tim (6/5): -
- Gordon (8/5): -
- SCOTT (8/5): -
- justin (9/5): -
- Sue (1/5): Very disappointed will not recommend - Central location Dirty rooms, worn carpets, dirty shower.
- Tracey (8/5): Staff were very helpful and went out of there way to accommodate us when The aircon didn’t work I’m out found us another -
- Jacob (8/5): -
- Alida (5/5): Convenient location. - Did not have breakfast Rooms very dated. Mould in shower
- bruce (1/5): - Nothing The room I had #12 needed to be demolished it had holes in the carpet dirty stained shower recess on top of the shower wall was a toothbrush and toothpaste tube left from the previous tenants the room was disgusting, I have pictures if you need them
- David (8/5): Quite and completely satisfied - Lovely Nothing
- William (7/5): - In the centre of town. I only stayed one night. It was clean and tidy and had everything i required.
- Vicki (6/5): - Convenient Price. Beds. Dust in room.
- Lynette (5/5): Great location but motel not good. - I loved the location. Close to everything we needed in walking distance. Didnt like the fact that we were never given clean towels every day & we had to use 1 towel per person for 6 days. As we had no kitchen we couldnt wash the dishes & they had to sit on the bench for 6 days. Not enough dishes supplied for the amount of people in the room. Room wasnt cleaned or vacumed during our stay. Didnt like the fact that we had to leave our key in the door to let the cleaners know that we had checked out. Anybody walking passed who would have seen the key in the door could have caused damage to the room & i would have been liable for the damages. Strongly suggest management change this idea.
- Sophie (4/5): Good location but dirty room - Good location It was extremely dirty, there were brown stains on the doona and mattress protector, dust and dirt everywhere, bugs webs and spiders in most corners
- Dennis (1/5): The rooms were absolutely filthy. Bugs and dead flies on the window ledge, carpet was dirty, the shower base definitely ne - Not much except for location We are both elderly and walking up 2 flights of stairs was extremely difficult for. We explained this to the staff but they weren’t very helpful.
- Rautangata (9/5): - Cute and cosy room, close to shops and the lake
- Alicia (5/5): It is unfortunate to leave with such a negative review, because of our experience, we will not be returning. - It was decent. Location was good. It was right in the middle of the town centre. Firstly, I booked in booking.com. They had advertised very clean, nice rooms to stay in. However, when we got there we were put in their oldest rooms that was very worn, barely had functioning air conditioning, which was very needed as it was minimum 35 degrees every day. We were very disappointed. Then we called reception and the lady provided zero customer service, took no accountability, blamed the stay on us because of the room we booked. Provided no form of compensation. I didn’t expect a total refund, but couldn’t even provide an apology. She was quite rude and not really willing to provide any form of help.
- Caroline (5/5): - Great location
Bed was comfortable Very basic, could do with a lick of paint and modernising.
No microwave, no iron, no hair-dryer in room
No staff around on departure at 10.00am
- Nicole (8/5): -
- sue (4/5): - Basic room which was fine. Clean linen etc and great location. Staff friendly. Unfortunately the air con did not work and given it was a 40oC day, it was very hot in the room. Fan on air con at least circulated the air a bit.
- jenny (5/5): -
- Glenn (8/5): - simple, no fuss, clean, comfortable accommodation
- SUSAN (4/5): Dissappointed - Location Access to room up 2 flights of stairs. Very old pokey dark pub room. Didn't stay handed the keys back and drove home. Staff polite.
- justin (10/5): -
- Stephen (6/5): -
- Anthony (2/5): Terrible - Nothing at all The rooms were so old and dodgy, terrible, broken air con and nothing at all like the pictures advertised, not even close to what was advertised, very disappointing.
- Craig (5/5): Satisfactory, but likely not use again - Location and the food venue It was very very tired and run down. Bed was comfy, staff were good, food was good, but in reality the accom itself was about 1 1/2 stars
- Dunbar (9/5): - The location and parking facilities
- tim (10/5): - Comfy bed No biscuits
- Beth (8/5): Loved our stay! Great location and very comfortable accommodation - Fantastic location No dishwashing liquid to wash cups
- Angela (5/5): - Free to air TV channels did not work, no hair dryer suppled.
- Baklis (5/5): - Small,old
- Sharyn (8/5): -
- Mia (1/5): not very happy i believe in this day and age that hotels/motels should atleast try to update there rooms especially - the location of the property is great, walkable to shops and facilities. the layout was confusing had trouble finding any lights which half of them didn't work. it's smelt quite dusty and the carpets looked like it was getting eaten away from bugs. The furniture was quite old and i didn't want to sit on anything but i was thank full that atleast the bed and sheets were made and looked quite freshly done.
- Bruce (7/5): Good central and quiet location at a fair price. - Location. Free parking. Quiet. Bit worn.
- Bennett (8/5): -
- Merrie (2/5): - We have previously stayed at Bourke's Hotel in the motel units and did not expect the upstairs hotel rooms to be so run down. We didn't like: The worn filthy carpet. The grumpy reception, the dangerous electric extension cord, the flat single pillows. The list is long
- Rhys (7/5): -
- Foster (2/5): Don't stay in room 12 - The location I didn't like that our room was disgraceful . Obviously a room that was stripped and used for storage with a bed in it.
No TV. No WiFi. No tea/coffee making facilities,no hairdryer which were all supposed to be present. Thread bare carpet with holes,,spider webs and dust.
- Steve (9/5): -
- Silvana (8/5): Good - It was nice It was alright I stayed in an older room
- Troy (7/5): Great value for money perfectly situated.. - Location
- Robert (5/5): -
- Dodgson (8/5): -
- Catherine (8/5): Good, quieter than expected, slept well - Comfy bed, dark room, central location, spacious Staff overworked
